Genesis

Chapter 5

Summary

Genesis 5 records the generations from Adam to Noah, listing names, lifespans, and the recurring refrain that people died. The genealogy emphasizes the remarkable longevity of the early patriarchs alongside the steady succession of generations. Noteworthy moments include Enoch, who "walked with God" and was taken by God rather than dying, and Methuselah, remembered for his longevity. The chapter culminates with the birth of Noah and functions as a bridge from the primeval stories into the flood narrative, highlighting continuity, mortality, and God's ongoing purposes.
