Chapter 4

Summary

The SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS and the return of ELIJAH. it begins with the terrifying 'day that burns as an oven' for the proud and the wicked. it features the magnificent promise to those who fear the LORD: 'the SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS shall ARISE WITH HEALING IN HIS WINGS'. it records the command to remember the law of Moses given at Horeb. it reaches its prophetic climax with the promise of ELIJAH'S return to 'turn the hearts of the fathers to the children' before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. it conclude the Old Testament with the warning of the curse and the hope of restoration.

1

"For, behold, the day comes, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yes, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that comes shall burn them up," says the LORD of hosts, "that it shall leave them neither root nor branch."

2

"But to you that fear My name shall the [1] Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings; and you shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall."

3

"And you shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this," says the LORD of hosts.

4

"Remember you the law of Moses My servant, which I commanded to him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgements."

5

"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:"

6

"And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse."

Notes

[1]HEB: 'Shemesh tzedakah' (Sun of Righteousness). A magnificent image of the Messiah as the source of light, life, and restorative healing for the righteous.
