Psalms

Chapter 150

Summary

Psalm 150 is the glorious and final doxology of the Book of Psalms, providing a grand conclusion to the entire Psalter. It is an unbridled call to praise God in His sanctuary and in His mighty heavens, based on His surpassing greatness and mighty acts. The psalm invites the use of every available instrument: trumpet, harp, lyre, timbrel, strings, pipe, and cymbals: to celebrate the LORD's glory. The journey through the various seasons of prayer, lament, and thanksgiving throughout the Book of Psalms culminates in this one ultimate command: "Let everything that has breath praise the LORD." It is the final Word on the purpose of all creation.

1

Praise the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.

2

Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.

3

Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre,

4

praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe,

5

praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.

6

Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.
