Psalms

Chapter 85

Summary

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm for the sons of Korah. A prayer for revival and the restoration of God's favour. It celebrates the divine harmony where mercy and truth meet, and righteousness and peace kiss each other, anticipating a time when glory shall dwell in the land.

1

LORD, you have been favourable to your land; you have brought back the captivity of Jacob.

2

You have forgiven the iniquity of your people, you have covered all their sin. Selah.

3

You have taken away all your wrath; you have turned yourself from the fierceness of your anger.

4

Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause your anger toward us to cease.

5

Will you be angry with us for ever? will you draw out your anger to all generations?

6

Will you not revive us again; that your people may rejoice in you?

7

Show us your mercy, O LORD, and grant us your salvation.

8

I will hear what God the LORD will speak; for he will speak peace to his people, and to his saints; but let them not turn again to folly.

9

Surely his salvation is near them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.

10

Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

11

Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

12

yes, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.

13

Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.
