Chapter 10
1
Phonetic (Greek): Oy thelo ⸀gar hymas agnoein, adelphoi, hoti ohi pateres hemon pantes hypo ten nephelen esan kai pantes dia tes thalasses dielthon,
Edified Edition (EDE)Moreover, brothers, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea,

2
Phonetic (Greek): kai pantes eis ton Moysen ⸀ebaptisanto en tῇ nephelῃ kai en tῇ thalassῃ,
Edified Edition (EDE)all were baptised into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,

3
Phonetic (Greek): kai pantes to ayto ⸂pneumatikon broma⸃ ephagon
Edified Edition (EDE)all ate the same spiritual food,

4
Phonetic (Greek): kai pantes to ayto ⸂pneumatikon epion poma⸃, epinon gar ek pneumatikes akolouthoyses petras, he ⸂petra de⸃ en ho Christos·
Edified Edition (EDE)and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.

5
Phonetic (Greek): allʼ oyk en tois pleiosin ayton eydokesen ho theos, katestrothesan gar en tῇ eremῳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

6
Phonetic (Greek): Tayta de typoi hemon egenethesan, eis to me einai hemas epithymetas kakon, kathos kakeinoi epethymesan.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.

7
Phonetic (Greek): mede eidololatrai ginesthe, kathos tines ayton· hosper gegraptai· Ἐkathisen ho laos phagein kai pein, kai anestesan paizein.
Edified Edition (EDE)And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play."

8
Phonetic (Greek): mede porneyomen, kathos tines ayton eporneusan, kai epesan miᾷ hemerᾳ eikosi treis chiliades.
Edified Edition (EDE)Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell;

9
Phonetic (Greek): mede ekpeirazomen ton ⸀Christon, ⸀kathos tines ayton epeirasan, kai hypo ton opheon ⸀apollynto.
Edified Edition (EDE)nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents;

10
Phonetic (Greek): mede gongyzete, ⸀kathaper tines ayton egongysan, kai apolonto hypo toy olothreutoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

11
Phonetic (Greek): tayta ⸀de ⸂typikos synebainen⸃ ekeinois, egraphe de pros nouthesian hemon, eis ohys ta tele ton aionon ⸀katenteken.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

12
Phonetic (Greek): hoste ho dokon hestanai blepeto me pesῃ,
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

13
Phonetic (Greek): peirasmos hymas oyk eilephen ei me anthropinos· pistos de ho theos, hos oyk easei hymas peirasthenai hyper ho dynasthe, alla poiesei syn tῷ peirasmῷ kai ten ekbasin toy ⸀dynasthai hypenenkein.
Edified Edition (EDE)No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

14
Phonetic (Greek): Dioper, agapetoi mou, pheygete apo tes eidololatrias.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

15
Phonetic (Greek): hos phronimois lego· krinate hymeis ho phemi.
Edified Edition (EDE)I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say.

16
Phonetic (Greek): to poterion tes eylogias ho eylogoymen, oychi koinonia ⸂estin toy ahimatos toy Christoy⸃; ton arton hon klomen, oychi koinonia toy somatos toy Christoy estin;
Edified Edition (EDE)The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the participation in the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the participation in the body of Christ?

τὸ ποτήριον τῆς εὐλογίας ὃ εὐλογοῦμεν, οὐχὶ κοινωνία ⸂ἐστὶν τοῦ αἵματος τοῦ Χριστοῦ⸃; τὸν ἄρτον ὃν κλῶμεν, οὐχὶ κοινωνία τοῦ σώματος τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐστιν;

17
Phonetic (Greek): hoti ehis artos, hen soma ohi polloi esmen, ohi gar pantes ek toy henos artou metechomen.
Edified Edition (EDE)For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread.

18
Phonetic (Greek): blepete ton Ἰsrael kata sarka· ⸀oych ohi esthiontes tas thysias koinonoi toy thysiasteriou eisin;
Edified Edition (EDE)Observe Israel after the flesh: Are not those who eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?

βλέπετε τὸν Ἰσραὴλ κατὰ σάρκα· ⸀οὐχ οἱ ἐσθίοντες τὰς θυσίας κοινωνοὶ τοῦ θυσιαστηρίου εἰσίν;

19
Phonetic (Greek): ti oyn phemi; hoti ⸂eidolothyton ti estin, e hoti eidolon⸃ ti estin;
Edified Edition (EDE)What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything?

τί οὖν φημι; ὅτι ⸂εἰδωλόθυτόν τί ἐστιν, ἢ ὅτι εἴδωλόν⸃ τί ἐστιν;

20
Phonetic (Greek): allʼ hoti ha ⸀thyousin, daimoniois ⸂kai oy theῷ thyousin⸃, oy thelo de hymas koinonoys ton daimonion ginesthai.
Edified Edition (EDE)Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons.

21
Phonetic (Greek): oy dynasthe poterion kyriou pinein kai poterion daimonion· oy dynasthe trapezes kyriou metechein kai trapezes daimonion.
Edified Edition (EDE)You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.

22
Phonetic (Greek): e parazeloymen ton kyrion; me ischyroteroi aytoy esmen;
Edified Edition (EDE)Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?

ἢ παραζηλοῦμεν τὸν κύριον; μὴ ἰσχυρότεροι αὐτοῦ ἐσμεν;

23
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀Panta exestin· allʼ oy panta sympherei. ⸁panta exestin· allʼ oy panta oikodomei.
Edified Edition (EDE)All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.

24
Phonetic (Greek): medeis to heautoy zeteito alla to toy ⸀heterou.
Edified Edition (EDE)Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.

25
Phonetic (Greek): pan to en makellῳ poloymenon esthiete meden anakrinontes dia ten syneidesin,
Edified Edition (EDE)Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no questions for conscience’ sake;

26
Phonetic (Greek): toy ⸂kyriou gar⸃ he ge kai to pleroma aytes.
Edified Edition (EDE)for "the earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness."

27
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀ei tis kalei hymas ton apiston kai thelete poreyesthai, pan to paratithemenon hymin esthiete meden anakrinontes dia ten syneidesin·
Edified Edition (EDE)If any of those who do not believe invites you to dinner, and you desire to go, eat whatever is set before you, asking no question for conscience’ sake.

28
Phonetic (Greek): ean de tis hymin eipῃ· Toyto ⸀hierothyton estin, me esthiete diʼ ekeinon ton menysanta kai ten ⸀syneidesin·
Edified Edition (EDE)But if anyone says to you, "This was offered to idols," do not eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for conscience’ sake; for "the earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness."

29
Phonetic (Greek): syneidesin de lego oychi ten heautoy alla ten toy heterou· hinati gar he eleutheria mou krinetai hypo alles syneideseos;
Edified Edition (EDE)"Conscience," I say, not your own, but that of the other. For why is my liberty judged by another man’s conscience?

συνείδησιν δὲ λέγω οὐχὶ τὴν ἑαυτοῦ ἀλλὰ τὴν τοῦ ἑτέρου· ἱνατί γὰρ ἡ ἐλευθερία μου κρίνεται ὑπὸ ἄλλης συνειδήσεως;

30
Phonetic (Greek): ei ego chariti metecho, ti blasphemoymai hyper ohy ego eycharisto;
Edified Edition (EDE)But if I partake with thanks, why am I evil spoken of for the food for which I give thanks?

εἰ ἐγὼ χάριτι μετέχω, τί βλασφημοῦμαι ὑπὲρ οὗ ἐγὼ εὐχαριστῶ;

31
Phonetic (Greek): Eite oyn esthiete eite pinete eite ti poieite, panta eis doxan theoy poieite.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

32
Phonetic (Greek): aproskopoi ⸂kai Ἰoudaiois ginesthe⸃ kai Ἕllesin kai tῇ ekklesiᾳ toy theoy,
Edified Edition (EDE)Give no offence, either to the Jews or to the Greeks or to the church of God,

33
Phonetic (Greek): kathos kago panta pasin aresko, me zeton to emautoy ⸀symphoron alla to ton pollon, hina sothosin.
Edified Edition (EDE)just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.
