1 Corinthians

Chapter 11
1
Phonetic (Greek): mimetai mou ginesthe, kathos kago Christoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

2
Phonetic (Greek): Ἐpaino de ⸀hymas hoti panta mou memnesthe kai kathos paredoka hymin tas paradoseis katechete.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now I praise you, brothers, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you.

3
Phonetic (Greek): thelo de hymas eidenai hoti pantos andros he kephale ho Christos estin, kephale de gynaikos ho aner, kephale de ⸀toy Christoy ho theos.
Edified Edition (EDE)But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

4
Phonetic (Greek): pas aner proseuchomenos e propheteyon kata kephales echon kataischynei ten kephalen aytoy·
Edified Edition (EDE)Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonours his head.

5
Phonetic (Greek): pasa de gyne proseuchomene e propheteyousa akatakalyptῳ tῇ kephalῇ kataischynei ten kephalen ⸀aytes, hen gar estin kai to ayto tῇ exyremenῃ.
Edified Edition (EDE)But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonours her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved.

6
Phonetic (Greek): ei gar oy katakalyptetai gyne, kai keirastho· ei de aischron gynaiki to keirasthai e xyrasthai, katakalyptestho.
Edified Edition (EDE)For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered.

7
Phonetic (Greek): aner men gar oyk opheilei katakalyptesthai ten kephalen, eikon kai doxa theoy hyparchon· ⸀he gyne de doxa andros estin.
Edified Edition (EDE)For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man.

8
Phonetic (Greek): oy gar estin aner ek gynaikos, alla gyne ex andros·
Edified Edition (EDE)For man is not from woman, but woman from man.

9
Phonetic (Greek): kai gar oyk ektisthe aner dia ten gynaika, alla gyne dia ton andra.
Edified Edition (EDE)Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man.

10
Phonetic (Greek): dia toyto opheilei he gyne exousian echein epi tes kephales dia toys angelous.
Edified Edition (EDE)For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.

11
Phonetic (Greek): plen oyte ⸂gyne choris andros oyte aner choris gynaikos⸃ en kyriῳ·
Edified Edition (EDE)Nevertheless, neither is man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Lord.

12
Phonetic (Greek): hosper gar he gyne ek toy andros, ohytos kai ho aner dia tes gynaikos· ta de panta ek toy theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God.

13
Phonetic (Greek): en hymin aytois krinate· prepon estin gynaika akatakalypton tῷ theῷ proseychesthai;
Edified Edition (EDE)Judge among yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

ἐν ὑμῖν αὐτοῖς κρίνατε· πρέπον ἐστὶν γυναῖκα ἀκατακάλυπτον τῷ θεῷ προσεύχεσθαι;

14
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀oyde ⸂he physis ayte⸃ didaskei hymas hoti aner men ean komᾷ, atimia aytῷ estin,
Edified Edition (EDE)Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonour to him?

15
Phonetic (Greek): gyne de ean komᾷ, doxa aytῇ estin; hoti he kome anti peribolaiou ⸀dedotai.
Edified Edition (EDE)But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering.

16
Phonetic (Greek): ei de tis dokei philoneikos einai, hemeis toiayten synetheian oyk echomen, oyde ahi ekklesiai toy theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)But if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.

17
Phonetic (Greek): Toyto de ⸂parangellon oyk epaino⸃ hoti oyk eis to kreisson alla eis to hesson synerchesthe.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now in giving these instructions I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse.

18
Phonetic (Greek): proton men gar synerchomenon hymon en ekklesiᾳ akoyo schismata en hymin hyparchein, kai meros ti pisteyo.
Edified Edition (EDE)For first of all, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.

19
Phonetic (Greek): dei gar kai ahireseis en hymin einai, hina ⸀kai ohi dokimoi phaneroi genontai en hymin.
Edified Edition (EDE)For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognised among you.

20
Phonetic (Greek): synerchomenon oyn hymon epi to ayto oyk estin kyriakon deipnon phagein,
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore when you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper.

21
Phonetic (Greek): hekastos gar to idion deipnon prolambanei en tῷ phagein, kai hos men peinᾷ, hos de methyei.
Edified Edition (EDE)For in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of others; and one is hungry and another is drunk.

22
Phonetic (Greek): me gar oikias oyk echete eis to esthiein kai pinein; e tes ekklesias toy theoy kataphroneite, kai kataischynete toys me echontas; ti ⸂eipo hymin⸃; epaineso hymas; en toytῳ oyk epaino.
Edified Edition (EDE)What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise you.

23
Phonetic (Greek): Ἐgo gar parelabon apo toy kyriou, ho kai paredoka hymin, hoti ho kyrios Ἰesoys en tῇ nykti he ⸀paredideto elaben arton
Edified Edition (EDE)For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;

24
Phonetic (Greek): kai eycharistesas eklasen kai ⸀eipen· Toyto moy estin to soma to hyper ⸀hymon· toyto poieite eis ten emen anamnesin.
Edified Edition (EDE)and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, [JESUS]"Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me."[/JESUS]

25
Phonetic (Greek): hosaytos kai to poterion meta to deipnesai, legon· Toyto to poterion he kaine diatheke estin en tῷ emῷ ahimati· toyto poieite, hosakis ⸀ean pinete, eis ten emen anamnesin.
Edified Edition (EDE)In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, [JESUS]"This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."[/JESUS]

26
Phonetic (Greek): hosakis gar ⸀ean esthiete ton arton toyton kai to ⸀poterion pinete, ton thanaton toy kyriou katangellete, achri ⸀ohy elthῃ.
Edified Edition (EDE)For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.

27
Phonetic (Greek): Ὥste hos an esthiῃ ton ⸀arton e pinῃ to poterion toy kyriou ⸀anaxios, enochos estai toy somatos kai toy ahimatos toy kyriou.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

28
Phonetic (Greek): dokimazeto de anthropos heauton, kai ohytos ek toy artou esthieto kai ek toy poteriou pineto·
Edified Edition (EDE)But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

29
Phonetic (Greek): ho gar esthion kai ⸀pinon krima heautῷ esthiei kai pinei me diakrinon to ⸀soma.
Edified Edition (EDE)For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgement to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

30
Phonetic (Greek): dia toyto en hymin polloi astheneis kai arrostoi kai koimontai hikanoi.
Edified Edition (EDE)For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.

31
Phonetic (Greek): ei ⸀de heautoys diekrinomen, oyk an ekrinometha·
Edified Edition (EDE)For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.

32
Phonetic (Greek): krinomenoi de ⸀hypo kyriou paideuometha, hina me syn tῷ kosmῳ katakrithomen.
Edified Edition (EDE)But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

33
Phonetic (Greek): Ὥste, adelphoi mou, synerchomenoi eis to phagein allelous ekdechesthe.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.

34
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀ei tis peinᾷ, en oikῳ esthieto, hina me eis krima synerchesthe. Ta de loipa hos an eltho diataxomai.
Edified Edition (EDE)But if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together for judgement. And the rest I will set in order when I come.
