1 Corinthians

Chapter 12
1
Phonetic (Greek): Peri de ton pneumatikon, adelphoi, oy thelo hymas agnoein.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant:

2
Phonetic (Greek): oidate hoti hote ethne ete pros ta eidola ta aphona hos an egesthe apagomenoi.
Edified Edition (EDE)You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led.

3
Phonetic (Greek): dio gnorizo hymin hoti oydeis en pneymati theoy lalon legei· Ἀnathema ⸀Ἰesoys, kai oydeis dynatai eipein· ⸂Kyrios Ἰesoys⸃ ei me en pneymati hagiῳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

4
Phonetic (Greek): Diaireseis de charismaton eisin, to de ayto pneyma·
Edified Edition (EDE)There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5
Phonetic (Greek): kai diaireseis diakonion eisin, kai ho aytos kyrios·
Edified Edition (EDE)There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord.

6
Phonetic (Greek): kai diaireseis energematon eisin, ⸂ho de⸃ ⸀aytos theos, ho energon ta panta en pasin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.

7
Phonetic (Greek): hekastῳ de didotai he phanerosis toy pneymatos pros to sympheron.
Edified Edition (EDE)But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:

8
Phonetic (Greek): ho men gar dia toy pneymatos didotai logos sophias, allῳ de logos gnoseos kata to ayto pneyma,
Edified Edition (EDE)for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,

9
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀heterῳ pistis en tῷ aytῷ pneymati, ⸀allῳ charismata iamaton en tῷ ⸀heni pneymati,
Edified Edition (EDE)to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,

10
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀allῳ energemata dynameon, ⸁allῳ propheteia, ⸀1allῳ diakriseis pneumaton, ⸀heterῳ gene glosson, ⸀2allῳ hermeneia glosson·
Edified Edition (EDE)to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

11
Phonetic (Greek): panta de tayta energei to hen kai to ayto pneyma, diairoyn idiᾳ hekastῳ kathos boyletai.
Edified Edition (EDE)But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

12
Phonetic (Greek): Kathaper gar to soma hen estin kai mele ⸂polla echei⸃, panta de ta mele toy ⸀somatos polla onta hen estin soma, ohytos kai ho Christos·
Edified Edition (EDE)For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.

13
Phonetic (Greek): kai gar en heni pneymati hemeis pantes eis hen soma ebaptisthemen, eite Ἰoudaioi eite Ἕllenes, eite doyloi eite eleytheroi, kai ⸀pantes hen pneyma epotisthemen.
Edified Edition (EDE)For by one Spirit we were all baptised into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

14
Phonetic (Greek): Kai gar to soma oyk estin hen melos alla polla.
Edified Edition (EDE)For in fact the body is not one member but many.

15
Phonetic (Greek): ean eipῃ ho poys· Ὅti oyk eimi cheir, oyk eimi ek toy somatos, oy para toyto oyk estin ek toy somatos;
Edified Edition (EDE)If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body?

ἐὰν εἴπῃ ὁ πούς· Ὅτι οὐκ εἰμὶ χείρ, οὐκ εἰμὶ ἐκ τοῦ σώματος, οὐ παρὰ τοῦτο οὐκ ἔστιν ἐκ τοῦ σώματος;

16
Phonetic (Greek): kai ean eipῃ to oys· Ὅti oyk eimi ophthalmos, oyk eimi ek toy somatos, oy para toyto oyk estin ek toy somatos·
Edified Edition (EDE)And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body?

17
Phonetic (Greek): ei holon to soma ophthalmos, poy he akoe; ei holon akoe, poy he osphresis;
Edified Edition (EDE)If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling?

εἰ ὅλον τὸ σῶμα ὀφθαλμός, ποῦ ἡ ἀκοή; εἰ ὅλον ἀκοή, ποῦ ἡ ὄσφρησις;

18
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀nyni de ho theos etheto ta mele, hen hekaston ayton, en tῷ somati kathos ethelesen.
Edified Edition (EDE)But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.

19
Phonetic (Greek): ei de en ta panta hen melos, poy to soma;
Edified Edition (EDE)And if they were all one member, where would the body be?

εἰ δὲ ἦν τὰ πάντα ἓν μέλος, ποῦ τὸ σῶμα;

20
Phonetic (Greek): nyn de polla ⸀men mele, hen de soma.
Edified Edition (EDE)But now indeed there are many members, yet one body.

21
Phonetic (Greek): oy dynatai de ho ophthalmos eipein tῇ cheiri· Chreian sou oyk echo, e palin he kephale tois posin· Chreian hymon oyk echo·
Edified Edition (EDE)And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you."

22
Phonetic (Greek): alla pollῷ mallon ta dokoynta mele toy somatos asthenestera hyparchein anankaia estin,
Edified Edition (EDE)No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary.

23
Phonetic (Greek): kai ha dokoymen atimotera einai toy somatos, toytois timen perissoteran peritithemen, kai ta aschemona hemon eyschemosynen perissoteran echei,
Edified Edition (EDE)And those members of the body which we think to be less honourable, on these we bestow greater honour; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty,

24
Phonetic (Greek): ta de eyschemona hemon oy chreian ⸀echei. alla ho theos synekerasen to soma, tῷ ⸀hysteroynti perissoteran doys timen,
Edified Edition (EDE)but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honour to that part which lacks it,

25
Phonetic (Greek): hina me e ⸀schisma en tῷ somati, alla to ayto hyper allelon merimnosi ta mele.
Edified Edition (EDE)that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another.

26
Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀eite paschei hen melos, sympaschei panta ta mele· eite doxazetai ⸀melos, synchairei panta ta mele.
Edified Edition (EDE)And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

Edified Edition (EDE)Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

28
Phonetic (Greek): kai ohys men etheto ho theos en tῇ ekklesiᾳ proton apostolous, deyteron prophetas, triton didaskalous, epeita dynameis, ⸀epeita charismata iamaton, antilempseis, kyberneseis, gene glosson.
Edified Edition (EDE)And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.

29
Phonetic (Greek): me pantes apostoloi; me pantes prophetai; me pantes didaskaloi; me pantes dynameis;
Edified Edition (EDE)Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles?

μὴ πάντες ἀπόστολοι; μὴ πάντες προφῆται; μὴ πάντες διδάσκαλοι; μὴ πάντες δυνάμεις;

30
Phonetic (Greek): me pantes charismata echousin iamaton; me pantes glossais laloysin; me pantes diermeneyousin;
Edified Edition (EDE)Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?

μὴ πάντες χαρίσματα ἔχουσιν ἰαμάτων; μὴ πάντες γλώσσαις λαλοῦσιν; μὴ πάντες διερμηνεύουσιν;

31
Phonetic (Greek): zeloyte de ta charismata ta ⸀meizona. kai eti kathʼ hyperbolen hodon hymin deiknymi.
Edified Edition (EDE)But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.
