1 Corinthians

Chapter 15
1
Phonetic (Greek): Gnorizo de hymin, adelphoi, to eyangelion ho eyengelisamen hymin, ho kai parelabete, en ho kai hestekate,
Edified Edition (EDE)Moreover, brothers, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand,

2
Phonetic (Greek): diʼ ohy kai sῴzesthe, tini logῳ eyengelisamen hymin, ei katechete, ektos ei me eikῇ episteysate.
Edified Edition (EDE)by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.

3
Phonetic (Greek): Paredoka gar hymin en protois, ho kai parelabon, hoti Christos apethanen hyper ton hamartion hemon kata tas graphas,
Edified Edition (EDE)For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

4
Phonetic (Greek): kai hoti etaphe, kai hoti egegertai tῇ ⸂hemerᾳ tῇ tritῃ⸃ kata tas graphas,
Edified Edition (EDE)and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,

5
Phonetic (Greek): kai hoti ophthe Kephᾷ, eita tois dodeka·
Edified Edition (EDE)and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve.

6
Phonetic (Greek): epeita ophthe epano pentakosiois adelphois ephapax, ex hon ohi ⸀pleiones menousin heos arti, tines ⸀de ekoimethesan·
Edified Edition (EDE)After that He was seen by over five hundred brothers at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep.

7
Phonetic (Greek): epeita ophthe Ἰakobῳ, eita tois apostolois pasin·
Edified Edition (EDE)After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles.

8
Phonetic (Greek): eschaton de panton hosperei tῷ ektromati ophthe kamoi.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

9
Phonetic (Greek): ego gar eimi ho elachistos ton apostolon, hos oyk eimi hikanos kaleisthai apostolos, dioti edioxa ten ekklesian toy theoy·
Edified Edition (EDE)For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

10
Phonetic (Greek): chariti de theoy eimi ho eimi, kai he charis aytoy he eis eme oy kene egenethe, alla perissoteron ayton panton ekopiasa, oyk ego de alla he charis toy theoy ⸀he syn emoi.
Edified Edition (EDE)But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

11
Phonetic (Greek): eite oyn ego eite ekeinoi, ohytos keryssomen kai ohytos episteysate.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore, whether it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

12
Phonetic (Greek): Ei de Christos keryssetai hoti ek nekron egegertai, pos legousin ⸂en hymin tines⸃ hoti anastasis nekron oyk estin;
Edified Edition (EDE)Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

Εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς κηρύσσεται ὅτι ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐγήγερται, πῶς λέγουσιν ⸂ἐν ὑμῖν τινες⸃ ὅτι ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν οὐκ ἔστιν;

13
Phonetic (Greek): ei de anastasis nekron oyk estin, oyde Christos egegertai·
Edified Edition (EDE)But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen.

14
Phonetic (Greek): ei de Christos oyk egegertai, kenon ⸀ara to kerygma hemon, ⸀kene kai he pistis ⸀hymon,
Edified Edition (EDE)And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.

15
Phonetic (Greek): ehyriskometha de kai pseudomartyres toy theoy, hoti emartyresamen kata toy theoy hoti egeiren ton Christon, hon oyk egeiren eiper ara nekroi oyk egeirontai.
Edified Edition (EDE)Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up, if in fact the dead do not rise.

16
Phonetic (Greek): ei gar nekroi oyk egeirontai, oyde Christos egegertai·
Edified Edition (EDE)For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen.

Edified Edition (EDE)And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!

18
Phonetic (Greek): ara kai ohi koimethentes en Christῷ apolonto.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

19
Phonetic (Greek): ei en tῇ zoῇ taytῃ ⸂en Christῷ elpikotes esmen⸃ monon, eleeinoteroi panton anthropon esmen.
Edified Edition (EDE)If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.

20
Phonetic (Greek): Nyni de Christos egegertai ek nekron, aparche ton ⸀kekoimemenon.
Edified Edition (EDE)But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

21
Phonetic (Greek): epeide gar diʼ anthropou ⸀thanatos, kai diʼ anthropou anastasis nekron·
Edified Edition (EDE)For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.

22
Phonetic (Greek): hosper gar en tῷ Ἀdam pantes apothnῄskousin, ohytos kai en tῷ Christῷ pantes zῳopoiethesontai.
Edified Edition (EDE)For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.

Edified Edition (EDE)But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming.

24
Phonetic (Greek): eita to telos, hotan ⸀paradidῷ ten basileian tῷ theῷ kai patri, hotan katargesῃ pasan archen kai pasan exousian kai dynamin,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.

25
Phonetic (Greek): dei gar ayton basileyein achri ⸀ohy thῇ pantas toys echthroys hypo toys podas aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet.

26
Phonetic (Greek): eschatos echthros katargeitai ho thanatos,
Edified Edition (EDE)The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.

27
Phonetic (Greek): panta gar hypetaxen hypo toys podas aytoy. hotan de eipῃ hoti panta hypotetaktai, delon hoti ektos toy hypotaxantos aytῷ ta panta.
Edified Edition (EDE)For "He has put all things under His feet." But when He says "all things are put under Him," it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted.

28
Phonetic (Greek): hotan de hypotagῇ aytῷ ta panta, ⸀tote aytos ho yhios hypotagesetai tῷ hypotaxanti aytῷ ta panta, hina e ho theos ⸀panta en pasin.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.

29
Phonetic (Greek): Ἐpei ti poiesousin ohi baptizomenoi hyper ton nekron; ei holos nekroi oyk egeirontai, ti kai baptizontai hyper ⸀ayton;
Edified Edition (EDE)Otherwise, what will they do who are baptised for the dead, if the dead do not rise at all? Why then are they baptised for the dead?

Ἐπεὶ τί ποιήσουσιν οἱ βαπτιζόμενοι ὑπὲρ τῶν νεκρῶν; εἰ ὅλως νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται, τί καὶ βαπτίζονται ὑπὲρ ⸀αὐτῶν;

30
Phonetic (Greek): ti kai hemeis kindyneyomen pasan horan;
Edified Edition (EDE)And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour?

τί καὶ ἡμεῖς κινδυνεύομεν πᾶσαν ὥραν;

31
Phonetic (Greek): kathʼ hemeran apothnῄsko, ne ten hymeteran ⸀kaychesin, hen echo en Christῷ Ἰesoy tῷ kyriῳ hemon.
Edified Edition (EDE)I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

32
Phonetic (Greek): ei kata anthropon etheriomachesa en Ἐphesῳ, ti moi to ophelos; ei nekroi oyk egeirontai, Phagomen kai piomen, ayrion gar apothnῄskomen.
Edified Edition (EDE)If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me? If the dead do not rise, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!"

33
Phonetic (Greek): me planasthe· phtheirousin ethe chresta homiliai kakai.
Edified Edition (EDE)Do not be deceived: "Evil company corrupts good habits."

34
Phonetic (Greek): eknepsate dikaios kai me hamartanete, agnosian gar theoy tines echousin· pros entropen hymin ⸀lalo.
Edified Edition (EDE)Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.

35
Phonetic (Greek): Ἀlla erei tis· Pos egeirontai ohi nekroi, poiῳ de somati erchontai;
Edified Edition (EDE)But someone will say, "How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?"

Ἀλλὰ ἐρεῖ τις· Πῶς ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροί, ποίῳ δὲ σώματι ἔρχονται;

36
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀aphron, sy ho speireis, oy zῳopoieitai ean me apothanῃ·
Edified Edition (EDE)Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies.

37
Phonetic (Greek): kai ho speireis, oy to soma to genesomenon speireis alla gymnon kokkon ei tychoi sitou e tinos ton loipon·
Edified Edition (EDE)And what you sow, you do not sow that body that shall be, but mere grain, perhaps wheat or some other grain.

38
Phonetic (Greek): ho de theos ⸂didosin aytῷ⸃ soma kathos ethelesen, kai hekastῳ ton spermaton ⸀idion soma.
Edified Edition (EDE)But God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed its own body.

39
Phonetic (Greek): oy pasa sarx he ayte sarx, alla alle men anthropon, alle de sarx ktenon, alle de ⸂sarx ptenon⸃, alle de ⸀ichthyon.
Edified Edition (EDE)All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of animals, another of fish, and another of birds.

40
Phonetic (Greek): kai somata epourania, kai somata epigeia· alla hetera men he ton epouranion doxa, hetera de he ton epigeion.
Edified Edition (EDE)There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

41
Phonetic (Greek): alle doxa heliou, kai alle doxa selenes, kai alle doxa asteron, aster gar asteros diapherei en doxῃ.
Edified Edition (EDE)There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory.

42
Phonetic (Greek): Ohytos kai he anastasis ton nekron. speiretai en phthorᾷ, egeiretai en aphtharsiᾳ·
Edified Edition (EDE)So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.

43
Phonetic (Greek): speiretai en atimiᾳ, egeiretai en doxῃ· speiretai en astheneiᾳ, egeiretai en dynamei·
Edified Edition (EDE)It is sown in dishonour, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.

44
Phonetic (Greek): speiretai soma psychikon, egeiretai soma pneumatikon. ⸀Ei estin soma psychikon, ⸂estin kai⸃ pneumatikon.
Edified Edition (EDE)It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

45
Phonetic (Greek): ohytos kai gegraptai· Ἐgeneto ho protos anthropos Ἀdam eis psychen zosan· ho eschatos Ἀdam eis pneyma zῳopoioyn.
Edified Edition (EDE)And so it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

46
Phonetic (Greek): allʼ oy proton to pneumatikon alla to psychikon, epeita to pneumatikon.
Edified Edition (EDE)However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual.

47
Phonetic (Greek): ho protos anthropos ek ges choikos, ho deyteros ⸀anthropos ex oyranoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven.

48
Phonetic (Greek): ohios ho choikos, toioytoi kai ohi choikoi, kai ohios ho epouranios, toioytoi kai ohi epouranioi·
Edified Edition (EDE)As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly.

49
Phonetic (Greek): kai kathos ephoresamen ten eikona toy choikoy, ⸀phoresomen kai ten eikona toy epouraniou.
Edified Edition (EDE)And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.

50
Phonetic (Greek): Toyto de phemi, adelphoi, hoti sarx kai ahima basileian theoy kleronomesai oy ⸀dynatai, oyde he phthora ten aphtharsian kleronomei.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now this I say, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.

51
Phonetic (Greek): idoy mysterion hymin lego· ⸀pantes oy koimethesometha pantes de allagesometha,
Edified Edition (EDE)Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52
Phonetic (Greek): en atomῳ, en ῥipῇ ophthalmoy, en tῇ eschatῃ salpingi· salpisei gar, kai ohi nekroi egerthesontai aphthartoi, kai hemeis allagesometha.
Edified Edition (EDE)in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

53
Phonetic (Greek): dei gar to phtharton toyto endysasthai aphtharsian kai to thneton toyto endysasthai athanasian.
Edified Edition (EDE)For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

54
Phonetic (Greek): hotan de to ⸂phtharton toyto endysetai aphtharsian kai to⸃ thneton toyto endysetai ⸀athanasian, tote genesetai ho logos ho gegrammenos· Katepothe ho thanatos eis nikos.
Edified Edition (EDE)So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."

55
Phonetic (Greek): poy sou, thanate, to ⸂nikos; poy sou, thanate, to kentron⸃;
Edified Edition (EDE)O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?

ποῦ σου, θάνατε, τὸ ⸂νῖκος; ποῦ σου, θάνατε, τὸ κέντρον⸃;

56
Phonetic (Greek): to de kentron toy thanatou he hamartia, he de dynamis tes hamartias ho nomos·
Edified Edition (EDE)The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.

57
Phonetic (Greek): tῷ de theῷ charis tῷ didonti hemin to nikos dia toy kyriou hemon Ἰesoy Christoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58
Phonetic (Greek): Ὥste, adelphoi mou agapetoi, hedraioi ginesthe, ametakinetoi, perisseyontes en tῷ ergῳ toy kyriou pantote, eidotes hoti ho kopos hymon oyk estin kenos en kyriῳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
