1 Corinthians

Chapter 4
1
Phonetic (Greek): Ohytos hemas logizestho anthropos hos hyperetas Christoy kai oikonomous mysterion theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Let a man so consider us as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.

2
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀hode loipon zeteitai en tois oikonomois hina pistos tis ehyrethῇ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.

3
Phonetic (Greek): emoi de eis elachiston estin, hina hyphʼ hymon anakritho e hypo anthropines hemeras· allʼ oyde emauton anakrino·
Edified Edition (EDE)But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by a human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself.

4
Phonetic (Greek): oyden gar emautῷ synoida, allʼ oyk en toytῳ dedikaiomai, ho de anakrinon me kyrios estin.
Edified Edition (EDE)For I know of nothing against myself, yet I am not justified by this; but He who judges me is the Lord.

5
Phonetic (Greek): hoste me pro kairoy ti krinete, heos an elthῃ ho kyrios, hos kai photisei ta krypta toy skotous kai phanerosei tas boulas ton kardion, kai tote ho epainos genesetai hekastῳ apo toy theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God.

6
Phonetic (Greek): Tayta de, adelphoi, meteschematisa eis emauton kai ⸀Ἀpollon diʼ hymas, hina en hemin mathete to· Me hyper ⸀ha ⸀gegraptai, hina me ehis hyper toy henos physioysthe kata toy heterou.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now these things, brothers, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other.

7
Phonetic (Greek): tis gar se diakrinei; ti de echeis ho oyk elabes; ei de kai elabes, ti kauchasai hos me labon;
Edified Edition (EDE)For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?

τίς γάρ σε διακρίνει; τί δὲ ἔχεις ὃ οὐκ ἔλαβες; εἰ δὲ καὶ ἔλαβες, τί καυχᾶσαι ὡς μὴ λαβών;

8
Phonetic (Greek): Ἤde kekoresmenoi este, ede eploutesate, choris hemon ebasileysate· kai ophelon ge ebasileysate, hina kai hemeis hymin symbasileysomen.
Edified Edition (EDE)You are already full! You are already rich! You have reigned as kings without us, and indeed I could wish you did reign, that we also might reign with you!

9
Phonetic (Greek): doko ⸀gar, ho theos hemas toys apostolous eschatous apedeixen hos epithanatious, hoti theatron egenethemen tῷ kosmῳ kai angelois kai anthropois.
Edified Edition (EDE)For I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last, as men condemned to death; for we have been made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.

Edified Edition (EDE)We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonoured!

11
Phonetic (Greek): achri tes arti horas kai peinomen kai dipsomen kai gymniteyomen kai kolaphizometha kai astatoymen
Edified Edition (EDE)To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless.

12
Phonetic (Greek): kai kopiomen ergazomenoi tais idiais chersin· loidoroymenoi eylogoymen, diokomenoi anechometha,
Edified Edition (EDE)And we labour, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure;

13
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀dysphemoymenoi parakaloymen· hos perikatharmata toy kosmou egenethemen, panton peripsema heos arti.
Edified Edition (EDE)being slandered, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now.

14
Phonetic (Greek): Oyk entrepon hymas grapho tayta, allʼ hos tekna mou agapeta ⸀noutheton·
Edified Edition (EDE)I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children I warn you.

15
Phonetic (Greek): ean gar myrious paidagogoys echete en Christῷ, allʼ oy polloys pateras, en gar Christῷ Ἰesoy dia toy eyangeliou ego hymas egennesa.
Edified Edition (EDE)For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

16
Phonetic (Greek): parakalo oyn hymas, mimetai mou ginesthe.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore I urge you, imitate me.

17
Phonetic (Greek): dia toyto epempsa hymin Timotheon, hos estin ⸂mou teknon⸃ agapeton kai piston en kyriῳ, hos hymas anamnesei tas hodoys mou tas en Christῷ ⸀Ἰesoy, kathos pantachoy en pasῃ ekklesiᾳ didasko.
Edified Edition (EDE)For this reason I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every church.

18
Phonetic (Greek): hos me erchomenou de mou pros hymas ephysiothesan tines·
Edified Edition (EDE)Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you.

19
Phonetic (Greek): eleysomai de tacheos pros hymas, ean ho kyrios thelesῃ, kai gnosomai oy ton logon ton pephysiomenon alla ten dynamin,
Edified Edition (EDE)But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord wills, and I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power.

20
Phonetic (Greek): oy gar en logῳ he basileia toy theoy allʼ en dynamei.
Edified Edition (EDE)For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.

21
Phonetic (Greek): ti thelete; en ῥabdῳ eltho pros hymas, e en agapῃ pneymati te praytetos;
Edified Edition (EDE)What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?

τί θέλετε; ἐν ῥάβδῳ ἔλθω πρὸς ὑμᾶς, ἢ ἐν ἀγάπῃ πνεύματί τε πραΰτητος;
