1 Corinthians

Chapter 8
1
Phonetic (Greek): Peri de ton eidolothyton, oidamen hoti pantes gnosin echomen. he gnosis physioi, he de agape oikodomei.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.

2
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀ei tis dokei ⸀egnokenai ti, ⸀oypo ⸀egno kathos dei gnonai·
Edified Edition (EDE)And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.

3
Phonetic (Greek): ei de tis agapᾷ ton theon, ohytos egnostai hypʼ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him.

4
Phonetic (Greek): Peri tes broseos oyn ton eidolothyton oidamen hoti oyden eidolon en kosmῳ, kai hoti oydeis ⸀theos ei me ehis.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore concerning the eating of things offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

5
Phonetic (Greek): kai gar eiper eisin legomenoi theoi eite en oyranῷ eite epi ges, hosper eisin theoi polloi kai kyrioi polloi,
Edified Edition (EDE)For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords),

6
Phonetic (Greek): allʼ hemin ehis theos ho pater, ex ohy ta panta kai hemeis eis ayton, kai ehis kyrios Ἰesoys Christos, diʼ ohy ta panta kai hemeis diʼ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.

7
Phonetic (Greek): Ἀllʼ oyk en pasin he gnosis· tines de tῇ ⸀synetheiᾳ ⸂heos arti toy eidolou⸃ hos eidolothyton esthiousin, kai he syneidesis ayton asthenes oysa molynetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)However, there is not in everyone that knowledge; for some, with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

8
Phonetic (Greek): broma de hemas oy ⸀parastesei tῷ theῷ· oyte ⸂gar ean phagomen, perisseyomen, oyte ean me phagomen, hysteroymetha⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)But food does not commend us to God; for neither if we eat are we the better, nor if we do not eat are we the worse.

9
Phonetic (Greek): blepete de me pos he exousia hymon ahyte proskomma genetai tois ⸀asthenesin.
Edified Edition (EDE)But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak.

10
Phonetic (Greek): ean gar tis idῃ se ton echonta gnosin en eidoleiῳ katakeimenon, oychi he syneidesis aytoy asthenoys ontos oikodomethesetai eis to ta eidolothyta esthiein;
Edified Edition (EDE)For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols?

ἐὰν γάρ τις ἴδῃ σὲ τὸν ἔχοντα γνῶσιν ἐν εἰδωλείῳ κατακείμενον, οὐχὶ ἡ συνείδησις αὐτοῦ ἀσθενοῦς ὄντος οἰκοδομηθήσεται εἰς τὸ τὰ εἰδωλόθυτα ἐσθίειν;

11
Phonetic (Greek): ⸂apollytai gar⸃ ho asthenon ⸀en tῇ sῇ gnosei, ⸂ho adelphos⸃ diʼ hon Christos apethanen.
Edified Edition (EDE)And because of your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?

12
Phonetic (Greek): ohytos de hamartanontes eis toys adelphoys kai typtontes ayton ten syneidesin asthenoysan eis Christon hamartanete.
Edified Edition (EDE)But when you thus sin against the brothers, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

13
Phonetic (Greek): dioper ei broma skandalizei ton adelphon mou, oy me phago krea eis ton aiona, hina me ton adelphon mou skandaliso.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.
