1 Corinthians

Chapter 9
1
Phonetic (Greek): Oyk eimi ⸂eleytheros; oyk eimi apostolos⸃; oychi ⸀Ἰesoyn ton kyrion hemon heoraka; oy to ergon mou hymeis este en kyriῳ;
Edified Edition (EDE)Am I not an apostle? Am I not free? Have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? Are you not my work in the Lord?

Οὐκ εἰμὶ ⸂ἐλεύθερος; οὐκ εἰμὶ ἀπόστολος⸃; οὐχὶ ⸀Ἰησοῦν τὸν κύριον ἡμῶν ἑόρακα; οὐ τὸ ἔργον μου ὑμεῖς ἐστε ἐν κυρίῳ;

2
Phonetic (Greek): ei allois oyk eimi apostolos, alla ge hymin eimi, he gar sphragis ⸂mou tes⸃ apostoles hymeis este en kyriῳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)If I am not an apostle to others, yet doubtless I am to you. For you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

3
Phonetic (Greek): Ἡ eme apologia tois eme anakrinousin ⸂estin ahyte⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)My defence to those who examine me is this:

4
Phonetic (Greek): me oyk echomen exousian phagein kai ⸀pein;
Edified Edition (EDE)Do we have no right to eat and drink?

μὴ οὐκ ἔχομεν ἐξουσίαν φαγεῖν καὶ ⸀πεῖν;

5
Phonetic (Greek): me oyk echomen exousian adelphen gynaika periagein, hos kai ohi loipoi apostoloi kai ohi adelphoi toy kyriou kai Kephas;
Edified Edition (EDE)Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas?

μὴ οὐκ ἔχομεν ἐξουσίαν ἀδελφὴν γυναῖκα περιάγειν, ὡς καὶ οἱ λοιποὶ ἀπόστολοι καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ τοῦ κυρίου καὶ Κηφᾶς;

6
Phonetic (Greek): e monos ego kai Barnabas oyk echomen exousian ⸀me ergazesthai;
Edified Edition (EDE)Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working?

ἢ μόνος ἐγὼ καὶ Βαρναβᾶς οὐκ ἔχομεν ἐξουσίαν ⸀μὴ ἐργάζεσθαι;

7
Phonetic (Greek): tis strateyetai idiois opsoniois pote; tis phyteyei ampelona kai ⸂ton karpon⸃ aytoy oyk esthiei; ⸀tis poimainei poimnen kai ek toy galaktos tes poimnes oyk esthiei;
Edified Edition (EDE)Who ever goes to war at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Or who tends a flock and does not drink of the milk of the flock?

τίς στρατεύεται ἰδίοις ὀψωνίοις ποτέ; τίς φυτεύει ἀμπελῶνα καὶ ⸂τὸν καρπὸν⸃ αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐσθίει; ⸀τίς ποιμαίνει ποίμνην καὶ ἐκ τοῦ γάλακτος τῆς ποίμνης οὐκ ἐσθίει;

8
Phonetic (Greek): Me kata anthropon tayta lalo e ⸂kai ho nomos tayta oy⸃ legei;
Edified Edition (EDE)Do I say these things as a mere man? Or does not the law say the same also?

Μὴ κατὰ ἄνθρωπον ταῦτα λαλῶ ἢ ⸂καὶ ὁ νόμος ταῦτα οὐ⸃ λέγει;

9
Phonetic (Greek): en gar tῷ Moyseos nomῳ gegraptai· Oy ⸀kemoseis boyn aloonta. me ton boon melei tῷ theῷ,
Edified Edition (EDE)For it is written in the Law of Moses, "You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain." Is it oxen God is concerned about?

10
Phonetic (Greek): e diʼ hemas pantos legei; diʼ hemas gar egraphe, hoti ⸂opheilei epʼ elpidi⸃ ho arotrion arotrian, kai ho aloon ⸂epʼ elpidi toy metechein⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)Or does He say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written, that he who ploughs should plough in hope, and he who threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope.

11
Phonetic (Greek): ei hemeis hymin ta pneumatika espeiramen, mega ei hemeis hymon ta sarkika therisomen;
Edified Edition (EDE)If we have sown spiritual things for you, is it a great thing if we reap your material things?

εἰ ἡμεῖς ὑμῖν τὰ πνευματικὰ ἐσπείραμεν, μέγα εἰ ἡμεῖς ὑμῶν τὰ σαρκικὰ θερίσομεν;

12
Phonetic (Greek): ei alloi tes ⸂hymon exousias⸃ metechousin, oy mallon hemeis; Ἀllʼ oyk echresametha tῇ exousiᾳ taytῃ, alla panta stegomen hina me ⸂tina enkopen⸃ domen tῷ eyangeliῳ toy Christoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)If others are partakers of this right over you, are we not even more? Nevertheless we have not used this right, but endure all things lest we hinder the gospel of Christ.

13
Phonetic (Greek): oyk oidate hoti ohi ta hiera ergazomenoi ⸀ta ek toy hieroy esthiousin, ohi tῷ thysiasteriῳ ⸀paredreyontes tῷ thysiasteriῳ symmerizontai;
Edified Edition (EDE)Do you not know that those who minister the holy things eat of the things of the temple, and those who serve at the altar partake of the offerings of the altar?

οὐκ οἴδατε ὅτι οἱ τὰ ἱερὰ ἐργαζόμενοι ⸀τὰ ἐκ τοῦ ἱεροῦ ἐσθίουσιν, οἱ τῷ θυσιαστηρίῳ ⸀παρεδρεύοντες τῷ θυσιαστηρίῳ συμμερίζονται;

14
Phonetic (Greek): ohytos kai ho kyrios dietaxen tois to eyangelion katangellousin ek toy eyangeliou zen.
Edified Edition (EDE)Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.

15
Phonetic (Greek): Ἐgo de ⸂oy kechremai oydeni⸃ toyton. oyk egrapsa de tayta hina ohytos genetai en emoi, kalon gar moi mallon apothanein e— to kaychema mou ⸂oydeis kenosei⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)But I have used none of these things, nor have I written these things that it should be done so to me; for it would be better for me to die than that anyone should make my boasting void.

16
Phonetic (Greek): ean gar eyangelizomai, oyk estin moi kaychema, ananke gar moi epikeitai· oyai ⸀gar moi estin ean me ⸀eyangelisomai.
Edified Edition (EDE)For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!

17
Phonetic (Greek): ei gar hekon toyto prasso, misthon echo· ei de akon, oikonomian pepisteumai.
Edified Edition (EDE)For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship.

18
Phonetic (Greek): tis oyn ⸀moy estin ho misthos; hina eyangelizomenos adapanon theso to ⸀eyangelion, eis to me katachresasthai tῇ exousiᾳ mou en tῷ eyangeliῳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel of Christ without charge, that I may not abuse my authority in the gospel.

19
Phonetic (Greek): Ἐleytheros gar on ek panton pasin emauton edoylosa, hina toys pleionas kerdeso·
Edified Edition (EDE)For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might gain the more;

20
Phonetic (Greek): kai egenomen tois Ἰoudaiois hos Ἰoudaios, hina Ἰoudaious kerdeso· tois hypo nomon hos hypo nomon, ⸂me on aytos hypo nomon⸃, hina toys hypo nomon kerdeso·
Edified Edition (EDE)and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain those who are under the law;

21
Phonetic (Greek): tois anomois hos anomos, me on anomos ⸀theoy allʼ ennomos ⸀Christoy, hina ⸀kerdano ⸀toys anomous·
Edified Edition (EDE)to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might gain those who are without law;

22
Phonetic (Greek): egenomen tois ⸀asthenesin asthenes, hina toys astheneis kerdeso· tois pasin ⸀gegona panta, hina pantos tinas soso.
Edified Edition (EDE)to the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

23
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀panta de poio dia to eyangelion, hina synkoinonos aytoy genomai.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.

24
Phonetic (Greek): Oyk oidate hoti ohi en stadiῳ trechontes pantes men trechousin, ehis de lambanei to brabeion; ohytos trechete hina katalabete.
Edified Edition (EDE)Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

Edified Edition (EDE)And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.

26
Phonetic (Greek): ego toinyn ohytos trecho hos oyk adelos, ohytos pykteyo hos oyk aera deron·
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.

27
Phonetic (Greek): alla hypopiazo mou to soma kai doulagogo, me pos allois keryxas aytos adokimos genomai.
Edified Edition (EDE)But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
