1 John

Chapter 4
1
Phonetic (Greek): Ἀgapetoi, me panti pneymati pisteyete, alla dokimazete ta pneymata ei ek toy theoy estin, hoti polloi pseudoprophetai exelelythasin eis ton kosmon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Beloved, believe not every spirit, but test the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2
Phonetic (Greek): en toytῳ ⸀ginoskete to pneyma toy theoy· pan pneyma ho homologei Ἰesoyn Christon en sarki elelythota ek toy theoy estin,
Edified Edition (EDE)Hereby know you the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

3
Phonetic (Greek): kai pan pneyma ho me homologei ⸀ton ⸀Ἰesoyn ek toy theoy oyk estin· kai toyto estin to toy antichristou, ho akekoate hoti erchetai, kai nyn en tῷ kosmῳ estin ede.
Edified Edition (EDE)And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, of which you have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Edified Edition (EDE)You are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world.

5
Phonetic (Greek): aytoi ek toy kosmou eisin· dia toyto ek toy kosmou laloysin kai ho kosmos ayton akoyei.
Edified Edition (EDE)They are of the world: therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them.

6
Phonetic (Greek): hemeis ek toy theoy esmen· ho ginoskon ton theon akoyei hemon, hos oyk estin ek toy theoy oyk akoyei hemon. ek toytou ginoskomen to pneyma tes aletheias kai to pneyma tes planes.
Edified Edition (EDE)We are of God: he who knows God hears us; he who is not of God hears not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

7
Phonetic (Greek): Ἀgapetoi, agapomen allelous, hoti he agape ek toy theoy estin, kai pas ho agapon ek toy theoy gegennetai kai ginoskei ton theon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every person who loves is born of God, and knows God.

8
Phonetic (Greek): ho me agapon oyk egno ton theon, hoti ho theos agape estin.
Edified Edition (EDE)He who loves not knows not God; for God is love.

9
Phonetic (Greek): en toytῳ ephanerothe he agape toy theoy en hemin, hoti ton yhion aytoy ton monogene apestalken ho theos eis ton kosmon hina zesomen diʼ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.

10
Phonetic (Greek): en toytῳ estin he agape, oych hoti hemeis ⸀egapekamen ton theon, allʼ hoti aytos egapesen hemas kai apesteilen ton yhion aytoy hilasmon peri ton hamartion hemon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

11
Phonetic (Greek): agapetoi, ei ohytos ho theos egapesen hemas, kai hemeis opheilomen allelous agapan.
Edified Edition (EDE)Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

12
Phonetic (Greek): theon oydeis popote tetheatai· ean agapomen allelous, ho theos en hemin menei kai he agape aytoy ⸂en hemin teteleiomene estin⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God remains in us, and His love is perfected in us.

13
Phonetic (Greek): Ἐn toytῳ ginoskomen hoti en aytῷ menomen kai aytos en hemin, hoti ek toy pneymatos aytoy dedoken hemin.
Edified Edition (EDE)Hereby know we that we remain in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.

14
Phonetic (Greek): kai hemeis tetheametha kai martyroymen hoti ho pater apestalken ton yhion sotera toy kosmou.
Edified Edition (EDE)And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

15
Phonetic (Greek): hos ⸀ean homologesῃ hoti ⸀Ἰesoys estin ho yhios toy theoy, ho theos en aytῷ menei kai aytos en tῷ theῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Whoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him, and he in God.

16
Phonetic (Greek): kai hemeis egnokamen kai pepisteykamen ten agapen hen echei ho theos en hemin. Ὁ theos agape estin, kai ho menon en tῇ agapῃ en tῷ theῷ menei kai ho theos en aytῷ ⸀menei.
Edified Edition (EDE)And we have known and believed the love that God has to us. God is love; and he who remains in love remains in God, and God in him.

17
Phonetic (Greek): en toytῳ teteleiotai he agape methʼ hemon, hina parresian echomen en tῇ hemerᾳ tes kriseos, hoti kathos ekeinos estin kai hemeis esmen en tῷ kosmῳ toytῳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgement: because as He is, so are we in this world.

18
Phonetic (Greek): phobos oyk estin en tῇ agapῃ, allʼ he teleia agape exo ballei ton phobon, hoti ho phobos kolasin echei, ho de phoboymenos oy teteleiotai en tῇ agapῃ.
Edified Edition (EDE)There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear has torment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.

19
Phonetic (Greek): hemeis ⸀agapomen, hoti aytos protos egapesen hemas.
Edified Edition (EDE)We love Him, because He first loved us.

20
Phonetic (Greek): ean tis eipῃ hoti Ἀgapo ton theon, kai ton adelphon aytoy misῇ, pseystes estin· ho gar me agapon ton adelphon aytoy hon heoraken, ton theon hon oych heoraken ⸀oy dynatai agapan.
Edified Edition (EDE)If a person says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar: for he who loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

21
Phonetic (Greek): kai tayten ten entolen echomen apʼ aytoy, hina ho agapon ton theon agapᾷ kai ton adelphon aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And this commandment have we from Him, That he who loves God love his brother also.
