Chapter 5
1
Phonetic (Greek): Pas ho pisteyon hoti Ἰesoys estin ho christos ek toy theoy gegennetai, kai pas ho agapon ton gennesanta agapᾷ ⸀kai ton gegennemenon ex aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every person who loves Him who brought forth loves him also who is born of Him.

2
Phonetic (Greek): en toytῳ ginoskomen hoti agapomen ta tekna toy theoy, hotan ton theon agapomen kai tas entolas aytoy ⸀poiomen·
Edified Edition (EDE)By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep His commandments.

3
Phonetic (Greek): ahyte gar estin he agape toy theoy hina tas entolas aytoy teromen, kai ahi entolai aytoy bareiai oyk eisin,
Edified Edition (EDE)For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not burdensome.

4
Phonetic (Greek): hoti pan to gegennemenon ek toy theoy nikᾷ ton kosmon. kai ahyte estin he nike he nikesasa ton kosmon, he pistis hemon·
Edified Edition (EDE)For whatever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.

5
Phonetic (Greek): tis ⸂de estin⸃ ho nikon ton kosmon ei me ho pisteyon hoti Ἰesoys estin ho yhios toy theoy;
Edified Edition (EDE)Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

τίς ⸂δέ ἐστιν⸃ ὁ νικῶν τὸν κόσμον εἰ μὴ ὁ πιστεύων ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ;

6
Phonetic (Greek): Ohytos estin ho elthon diʼ hydatos kai ahimatos, Ἰesoys Christos· oyk en tῷ hydati monon allʼ en tῷ hydati kai ⸀en tῷ ahimati· kai to pneyma estin to martyroyn, hoti to pneyma estin he aletheia.
Edified Edition (EDE)This is He who came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.

7
Phonetic (Greek): hoti treis eisin ohi martyroyntes,
Edified Edition (EDE)For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit: and these three are one.

8
Phonetic (Greek): to pneyma kai to hydor kai to ahima, kai ohi treis eis to hen eisin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

9
Phonetic (Greek): ei ten martyrian ton anthropon lambanomen, he martyria toy theoy meizon estin, hoti ahyte estin he martyria toy theoy ⸀hoti memartyreken peri toy yhioy aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)If we receive the witness of people, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son.

10
Phonetic (Greek): ho pisteyon eis ton yhion toy theoy echei ten martyrian en ⸀ahytῷ· ho me pisteyon tῷ theῷ pseysten pepoieken ayton, hoti oy pepisteuken eis ten martyrian hen memartyreken ho theos peri toy yhioy aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)He who believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself: he who believes not God has made Him a liar; because he believes not the record that God gave of His Son.

11
Phonetic (Greek): kai ahyte estin he martyria, hoti zoen aionion edoken ⸂ho theos hemin⸃, kai ahyte he zoe en tῷ yhiῷ aytoy estin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And this is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

12
Phonetic (Greek): ho echon ton yhion echei ten zoen· ho me echon ton yhion toy theoy ten zoen oyk echei.
Edified Edition (EDE)He who has the Son has life; and he who has not the Son of God has not life.

13
Phonetic (Greek): Tayta egrapsa ⸀hymin hina eidete hoti zoen ⸂echete aionion⸃, ⸂tois pisteyousin⸃ eis to onoma toy yhioy toy theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)These things have I written to you who believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.

14
Phonetic (Greek): kai ahyte estin he parresia hen echomen pros ayton, hoti ean ti aitometha kata to thelema aytoy akoyei hemon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He hears us:

15
Phonetic (Greek): kai ean oidamen hoti akoyei hemon ho ⸀ean aitometha, oidamen hoti echomen ta aitemata ha etekamen ⸀apʼ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And if we know that He hear us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.

16
Phonetic (Greek): ean tis idῃ ton adelphon aytoy hamartanonta hamartian me pros thanaton, aitesei, kai dosei aytῷ zoen, tois hamartanousin me pros thanaton. estin hamartia pros thanaton· oy peri ekeines lego hina erotesῃ.
Edified Edition (EDE)If any person see his brother sin a sin which is not to death, he shall ask, and He shall give him life for those who sin not to death. There is a sin to death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

17
Phonetic (Greek): pasa adikia hamartia estin, kai estin hamartia oy pros thanaton.
Edified Edition (EDE)All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not to death.

18
Phonetic (Greek): Oidamen hoti pas ho gegennemenos ek toy theoy oych hamartanei, allʼ ho gennetheis ek toy theoy terei ⸀ayton, kai ho poneros oych haptetai aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)We know that whoever is born of God sins not; but he who is born of God keeps himself, and that wicked one touches him not.

19
Phonetic (Greek): oidamen hoti ek toy theoy esmen, kai ho kosmos holos en tῷ ponerῷ keitai.
Edified Edition (EDE)And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.

20
Phonetic (Greek): oidamen de hoti ho yhios toy theoy hekei, kai dedoken hemin dianoian hina ⸀ginoskomen ton alethinon· kai esmen en tῷ alethinῷ, en tῷ yhiῷ aytoy Ἰesoy Christῷ. ohytos estin ho alethinos theos kai zoe aionios.
Edified Edition (EDE)And we know that the Son of God is come, and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

21
Phonetic (Greek): Teknia, phylaxate heauta apo ton ⸀eidolon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
