Edified Edition (EDE)Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

2
Phonetic (Greek): hos artigenneta brephe to logikon adolon gala epipothesate, hina en aytῷ ayxethete ⸂eis soterian⸃,
Edified Edition (EDE)As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby:

3
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀ei egeysasthe hoti chrestos ho kyrios.
Edified Edition (EDE)If so be you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

4
Phonetic (Greek): Pros hon proserchomenoi, lithon zonta, hypo anthropon men apodedokimasmenon para de theῷ eklekton entimon
Edified Edition (EDE)To whom coming, as to a living stone, rejected truly by people, but chosen of God, and precious,

5
Phonetic (Greek): kai aytoi hos lithoi zontes oikodomeisthe oikos pneumatikos ⸀eis hierateuma hagion, anenenkai pneumatikas thysias ⸀eyprosdektous theῷ dia Ἰesoy Christoy·
Edified Edition (EDE)You also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

6
Phonetic (Greek): dioti periechei ⸀en graphῇ· Ἰdoy tithemi en Sion lithon ⸂akrogoniaion eklekton⸃ entimon, kai ho pisteyon epʼ aytῷ oy me kataischynthῇ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, "Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious: and he who believes on Him shall not be confounded."

7
Phonetic (Greek): hymin oyn he time tois pisteyousin· ⸀apistoysin de ⸀lithos hon apedokimasan ohi oikodomoyntes ohytos egenethe eis kephalen gonias
Edified Edition (EDE)To you therefore who believe He is precious: but to those who are disobedient, the stone which the builders rejected, the same is made the head of the corner,

8
Phonetic (Greek): kai lithos proskommatos kai petra skandalou· ohi proskoptousin tῷ logῳ apeithoyntes· eis ho kai etethesan.
Edified Edition (EDE)And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to those who stumble at the word, being disobedient: to which also they were appointed.

9
Phonetic (Greek): Ὑmeis de genos eklekton, basileion hierateuma, ethnos hagion, laos eis peripoiesin, hopos tas aretas exangeilete toy ek skotous hymas kalesantos eis to thaumaston aytoy phos·
Edified Edition (EDE)But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvellous light:

10
Phonetic (Greek): ohi pote oy laos nyn de laos theoy, ohi oyk eleemenoi nyn de eleethentes.
Edified Edition (EDE)Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

11
Phonetic (Greek): Ἀgapetoi, parakalo hos paroikous kai parepidemous apechesthai ton sarkikon epithymion, ahitines strateyontai kata tes psyches·
Edified Edition (EDE)Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

12
Phonetic (Greek): ten anastrophen hymon ⸂en tois ethnesin echontes kalen⸃, hina, en ho katalaloysin hymon hos kakopoion, ek ton kalon ergon ⸀epopteyontes doxasosi ton theon en hemerᾳ episkopes.
Edified Edition (EDE)Having your conduct honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

13
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀Ὑpotagete pasῃ anthropinῃ ktisei dia ton kyrion· eite basilei hos hyperechonti,
Edified Edition (EDE)Submit yourselves to every ordinance of people for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;

14
Phonetic (Greek): eite hegemosin hos diʼ aytoy pempomenois eis ekdikesin kakopoion epainon de agathopoion
Edified Edition (EDE)Or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of those who do well.

15
Phonetic (Greek): (hoti ohytos estin to thelema toy theoy, agathopoioyntas phimoyn ten ton aphronon anthropon agnosian)·
Edified Edition (EDE)For so is the will of God, that with well doing you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish people:

16
Phonetic (Greek): hos eleytheroi, kai me hos epikalymma echontes tes kakias ten eleutherian, allʼ hos ⸂theoy doyloi⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

17
Phonetic (Greek): pantas timesate, ten adelphoteta ⸀agapate, ton theon phobeisthe, ton basilea timate.
Edified Edition (EDE)Honour all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

19
Phonetic (Greek): toyto gar charis ei dia syneidesin theoy hypopherei tis lypas paschon adikos·
Edified Edition (EDE)For this is thankworthy, if a person for conscience toward God endures grief, suffering wrongfully.

20
Phonetic (Greek): poion gar kleos ei hamartanontes kai kolaphizomenoi hypomeneite; allʼ ei agathopoioyntes kai paschontes hypomeneite, toyto charis para theῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)For what glory is it, if, when you are buffeted for your faults, you shall take it patiently? but if, when you do well, and suffer for it, you take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

21

Edified Edition (EDE)For even hereunto were you called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:

22
Phonetic (Greek): hos hamartian oyk epoiesen oyde ehyrethe dolos en tῷ stomati aytoy·

23
Phonetic (Greek): hos loidoroymenos oyk anteloidorei, paschon oyk epeilei, paredidou de tῷ krinonti dikaios·
Edified Edition (EDE)Who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously:

24
Phonetic (Greek): hos tas hamartias hemon aytos anenenken en tῷ somati aytoy epi to xylon, hina tais hamartiais apogenomenoi tῇ dikaiosynῃ zesomen· ohy tῷ ⸀molopi iathete.

25
Phonetic (Greek): ete gar hos probata ⸀planomenoi, alla epestraphete nyn epi ton poimena kai episkopon ton psychon hymon.
Edified Edition (EDE)For you were as sheep going astray; but are now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
