Chapter 3
1
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀Ὁmoios gynaikes hypotassomenai tois idiois andrasin, hina ⸀kai ei tines apeithoysin tῷ logῳ dia tes ton gynaikon anastrophes aneu logou kerdethesontai
Edified Edition (EDE)Likewise, you wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conduct of the wives;

2
Phonetic (Greek): epopteysantes ten en phobῳ hagnen anastrophen hymon.
Edified Edition (EDE)While they behold your chaste conduct coupled with fear.

3
Phonetic (Greek): hon esto oych ho exothen emplokes trichon kai peritheseos chrysion e endyseos himation kosmos,
Edified Edition (EDE)Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

4
Phonetic (Greek): allʼ ho kryptos tes kardias anthropos en tῷ aphthartῳ toy ⸂praeos kai hesychiou⸃ pneymatos, ho estin enopion toy theoy polyteles.
Edified Edition (EDE)But let it be the hidden person of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

5
Phonetic (Greek): ohytos gar pote kai ahi hagiai gynaikes ahi elpizousai ⸀eis theon ekosmoun heautas, hypotassomenai tois idiois andrasin,
Edified Edition (EDE)For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:

6
Phonetic (Greek): hos Sarra ⸀hypekousen tῷ Ἀbraam, kyrion ayton kaloysa· hes egenethete tekna agathopoioysai kai me phoboymenai medemian ptoesin.
Edified Edition (EDE)Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters you are, as long as you do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

7
Phonetic (Greek): Ohi andres homoios synoikoyntes kata gnosin, hos asthenesterῳ skeyei tῷ gynaikeiῳ aponemontes timen, hos kai ⸀synkleronomois charitos zoes, eis to me enkoptesthai tas proseuchas hymon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Likewise, you husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

8
Phonetic (Greek): To de telos pantes homophrones, sympatheis, philadelphoi, eysplanchnoi, ⸀tapeinophrones,
Edified Edition (EDE)Finally, be you all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brothers, be pitiful, be courteous:

9
Phonetic (Greek): me apodidontes kakon anti kakoy e loidorian anti loidorias toynantion de ⸀eylogoyntes, hoti eis toyto eklethete hina eylogian kleronomesete.
Edified Edition (EDE)Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that you are hereunto called, that you should inherit a blessing.

10
Phonetic (Greek): ho gar thelon zoen agapan kai idein hemeras agathas pausato ten ⸀glossan apo kakoy kai ⸀cheile toy me lalesai dolon,
Edified Edition (EDE)For he who will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

11
Phonetic (Greek): ekklinato ⸀de apo kakoy kai poiesato agathon, zetesato eirenen kai dioxato ayten·
Edified Edition (EDE)Let him shun evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it.

12
Phonetic (Greek): hoti ophthalmoi kyriou epi dikaious kai ota aytoy eis deesin ayton, prosopon de kyriou epi poioyntas kaka.
Edified Edition (EDE)For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.

13
Phonetic (Greek): Kai tis ho kakoson hymas ean toy agathoy ⸀zelotai genesthe;
Edified Edition (EDE)And who is he who will harm you, if you be followers of that which is good?

Καὶ τίς ὁ κακώσων ὑμᾶς ἐὰν τοῦ ἀγαθοῦ ⸀ζηλωταὶ γένησθε;

14
Phonetic (Greek): allʼ ei kai paschoite dia dikaiosynen, makarioi. ton de phobon ayton me phobethete mede tarachthete,
Edified Edition (EDE)But and if you suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are you: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

15
Phonetic (Greek): kyrion de ton ⸀Christon hagiasate en tais kardiais hymon, ⸀hetoimoi aei pros apologian panti tῷ aitoynti hymas logon peri tes en hymin elpidos,
Edified Edition (EDE)But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every person who asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with gentleness and fear:

16
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀alla meta praytetos kai phobou, syneidesin echontes agathen, hina en ho ⸀katalaleisthe kataischynthosin ohi epereazontes hymon ten agathen en Christῷ anastrophen.
Edified Edition (EDE)Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed who falsely accuse your good conduct in Christ.

17
Phonetic (Greek): kreitton gar agathopoioyntas, ei theloi to thelema toy theoy, paschein e kakopoioyntas.
Edified Edition (EDE)For it is better, if the will of God be so, that you suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

18
Phonetic (Greek): hoti kai Christos hapax peri hamartion ⸀epathen, dikaios hyper adikon, hina ⸀hymas prosagagῃ tῷ theῷ, thanatotheis men sarki zῳopoietheis de pneymati·
Edified Edition (EDE)For Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

19
Phonetic (Greek): en ho kai tois en phylakῇ pneymasin poreutheis ekeryxen,
Edified Edition (EDE)By which also He went and preached to the spirits in prison;

20
Phonetic (Greek): apeithesasin pote hote apexedecheto he toy theoy makrothymia en hemerais Noe kataskeuazomenes kibotoy eis hen ⸀oligoi, toytʼ estin okto psychai, diesothesan diʼ hydatos.
Edified Edition (EDE)Who sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

21
Phonetic (Greek): ho ⸂kai hymas antitypon nyn⸃ sῴzei baptisma, oy sarkos apothesis ῥypou alla syneideseos agathes eperotema eis theon, diʼ anastaseos Ἰesoy Christoy,
Edified Edition (EDE)The like figure to which even baptism does also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

22
Phonetic (Greek): hos estin en ⸀dexiᾷ theoy poreutheis eis oyranon hypotagenton aytῷ angelon kai exousion kai dynameon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject to Him.
