1 Thessalonians

Chapter 2
1
Phonetic (Greek): Aytoi gar oidate, adelphoi, ten eisodon hemon ten pros hymas hoti oy kene gegonen,
Edified Edition (EDE)For you yourselves know, brothers, our entry to you, that it was not in vain.

2
Phonetic (Greek): alla propathontes kai hybristhentes kathos oidate en Philippois eparresiasametha en tῷ theῷ hemon lalesai pros hymas to eyangelion toy theoy en pollῷ agoni.
Edified Edition (EDE)But even after we had suffered before and were spitefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God in much conflict.

3
Phonetic (Greek): he gar paraklesis hemon oyk ek planes oyde ex akatharsias ⸀oyde en dolῳ,
Edified Edition (EDE)For our exhortation did not come from error or uncleanness, nor was it in deceit.

4
Phonetic (Greek): alla kathos dedokimasmetha hypo toy theoy pisteuthenai to eyangelion ohytos laloymen, oych hos anthropois areskontes alla ⸀theῷ tῷ dokimazonti tas kardias hemon.
Edified Edition (EDE)But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.

5
Phonetic (Greek): oyte gar pote en logῳ kolakeias egenethemen, kathos oidate, oyte ⸀en prophasei pleonexias, theos martys,
Edified Edition (EDE)For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for covetousness, God is witness.

6
Phonetic (Greek): oyte zetoyntes ex anthropon doxan, oyte aphʼ hymon oyte apʼ allon,
Edified Edition (EDE)Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.

7
Phonetic (Greek): dynamenoi en barei einai hos Christoy apostoloi· alla egenethemen ⸀epioi en mesῳ hymon, hos ⸀ean trophos thalpῃ ta heautes tekna·
Edified Edition (EDE)But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.

8
Phonetic (Greek): ohytos homeiromenoi hymon eydokoymen metadoynai hymin oy monon to eyangelion toy theoy alla kai tas heauton psychas, dioti agapetoi hemin ⸀egenethete.
Edified Edition (EDE)So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

9
Phonetic (Greek): Mnemoneyete gar, adelphoi, ton kopon hemon kai ton mochthon· ⸀nyktos kai hemeras ergazomenoi pros to me epibaresai tina hymon ekeryxamen eis hymas to eyangelion toy theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)For you remember, brothers, our labour and toil; for labouring night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.

10
Phonetic (Greek): hymeis martyres kai ho theos, hos hosios kai dikaios kai amemptos hymin tois pisteyousin egenethemen,
Edified Edition (EDE)You are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and blameless we behaved ourselves among you who believe;

11
Phonetic (Greek): kathaper oidate hos hena hekaston hymon hos pater tekna heautoy
Edified Edition (EDE)as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children,

12
Phonetic (Greek): parakaloyntes hymas kai paramythoymenoi kai martyromenoi, eis to ⸀peripatein hymas axios toy theoy toy kaloyntos hymas eis ten heautoy basileian kai doxan.
Edified Edition (EDE)that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

13
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀Kai dia toyto kai hemeis eycharistoymen tῷ theῷ adialeiptos, hoti paralabontes logon akoes parʼ hemon toy theoy edexasthe oy logon anthropon alla kathos ⸂alethos estin⸃ logon theoy, hos kai energeitai en hymin tois pisteyousin.
Edified Edition (EDE)For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

14
Phonetic (Greek): hymeis gar mimetai egenethete, adelphoi, ton ekklesion toy theoy ton oyson en tῇ Ἰoudaiᾳ en Christῷ Ἰesoy, hoti ta ayta epathete kai hymeis hypo ton idion symphyleton kathos kai aytoi hypo ton Ἰoudaion
Edified Edition (EDE)For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, just as they did from the Judeans,

15
Phonetic (Greek): ton kai ton kyrion apokteinanton Ἰesoyn kai ⸀toys prophetas kai hemas ekdioxanton, kai theῷ me areskonton, kai pasin anthropois enantion,
Edified Edition (EDE)who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they do not please God and are contrary to all men,

16
Phonetic (Greek): kolyonton hemas tois ethnesin lalesai hina sothosin, eis to anaplerosai ayton tas hamartias pantote. ephthasen de epʼ aytoys he ⸀orge eis telos.
Edified Edition (EDE)forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, so as always to fill up the measure of their sins; but wrath has come upon them to the uttermost.

17
Phonetic (Greek): Ἡmeis de, adelphoi, aporphanisthentes aphʼ hymon pros kairon horas, prosopῳ oy kardiᾳ, perissoteros espoudasamen to prosopon hymon idein en pollῇ epithymiᾳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)But we, brothers, having been taken away from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured more eagerly to see your face with great desire.

18
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀dioti ethelesamen elthein pros hymas, ego men Paylos kai hapax kai dis, kai enekopsen hemas ho Satanas.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore we wanted to come to you, even I, Paul, time and again, but Satan hindered us.

19
Phonetic (Greek): tis gar hemon elpis e chara e stephanos kaucheseos— e oychi kai hymeis— emprosthen toy kyriou hemon Ἰesoy en tῇ aytoy parousiᾳ;
Edified Edition (EDE)For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?

τίς γὰρ ἡμῶν ἐλπὶς ἢ χαρὰ ἢ στέφανος καυχήσεως— ἢ οὐχὶ καὶ ὑμεῖς— ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ ἐν τῇ αὐτοῦ παρουσίᾳ;

20
Phonetic (Greek): hymeis gar este he doxa hemon kai he chara.
Edified Edition (EDE)For you are our glory and joy.
