1 Thessalonians

Chapter 4
1
Phonetic (Greek): Loipon ⸀oyn, adelphoi, erotomen hymas kai parakaloymen en kyriῳ Ἰesoy, ⸀hina kathos parelabete parʼ hemon to pos dei hymas peripatein kai areskein theῷ, ⸂kathos kai peripateite⸃, hina perisseyete mallon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Finally then, brothers, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God;

2
Phonetic (Greek): oidate gar tinas parangelias edokamen hymin dia toy kyriou Ἰesoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus.

3
Phonetic (Greek): toyto gar estin thelema toy theoy, ho hagiasmos hymon, apechesthai hymas apo tes porneias,
Edified Edition (EDE)For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality;

4
Phonetic (Greek): eidenai hekaston hymon to heautoy skeyos ktasthai en hagiasmῷ kai timῇ,
Edified Edition (EDE)that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honour,

5
Phonetic (Greek): me en pathei epithymias kathaper kai ta ethne ta me eidota ton theon,
Edified Edition (EDE)not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God;

6
Phonetic (Greek): to me hyperbainein kai pleonektein en tῷ pragmati ton adelphon aytoy, dioti ekdikos ⸀kyrios peri panton toyton, kathos kai proeipamen hymin kai diemartyrametha.
Edified Edition (EDE)that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified.

7
Phonetic (Greek): oy gar ekalesen hemas ho theos epi akatharsiᾳ allʼ en hagiasmῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.

8
Phonetic (Greek): toigaroyn ho atheton oyk anthropon athetei alla ton theon ton ⸀kai ⸀didonta to pneyma aytoy to hagion eis hymas.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.

9
Phonetic (Greek): Peri de tes philadelphias oy chreian echete graphein hymin, aytoi gar hymeis theodidaktoi este eis to agapan allelous·
Edified Edition (EDE)But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another;

10
Phonetic (Greek): kai gar poieite ayto eis pantas toys adelphoys toys en holῃ tῇ Makedoniᾳ. parakaloymen de hymas, adelphoi, perisseyein mallon,
Edified Edition (EDE)and indeed you do so toward all the brothers who are in all Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, that you increase more and more;

11
Phonetic (Greek): kai philotimeisthai hesychazein kai prassein ta idia kai ergazesthai ⸀tais chersin hymon, kathos hymin parengeilamen,
Edified Edition (EDE)that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you,

12
Phonetic (Greek): hina peripatete eyschemonos pros toys exo kai medenos chreian echete.
Edified Edition (EDE)that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing.

13
Phonetic (Greek): Oy thelomen de hymas agnoein, adelphoi, peri ton ⸀koimomenon, hina me lypesthe kathos kai ohi loipoi ohi me echontes elpida.
Edified Edition (EDE)But I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.

14
Phonetic (Greek): ei gar pisteyomen hoti Ἰesoys apethanen kai aneste, ohytos kai ho theos toys koimethentas dia toy Ἰesoy axei syn aytῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

15
Phonetic (Greek): toyto gar hymin legomen en logῳ kyriou, hoti hemeis ohi zontes ohi perileipomenoi eis ten parousian toy kyriou oy me phthasomen toys koimethentas·
Edified Edition (EDE)For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.

16
Phonetic (Greek): hoti aytos ho kyrios en keleysmati, en phonῇ archangelou kai en salpingi theoy, katabesetai apʼ oyranoy, kai ohi nekroi en Christῷ anastesontai proton,
Edified Edition (EDE)For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

17
Phonetic (Greek): epeita hemeis ohi zontes ohi perileipomenoi hama syn aytois harpagesometha en nephelais eis apantesin toy kyriou eis aera· kai ohytos pantote syn kyriῳ esometha.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we shall always be with the Lord.

18
Phonetic (Greek): hoste parakaleite allelous en tois logois toytois.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore comfort one another with these words.
