2 Corinthians

Chapter 2
1
Phonetic (Greek): ekrina ⸀gar emautῷ toyto, to me palin en lypῃ pros hymas elthein·
Edified Edition (EDE)But I determined this within myself, that I would not come again to you in sorrow.

2
Phonetic (Greek): ei gar ego lypo hymas, kai ⸀tis ho eyphrainon me ei me ho lypoymenos ex emoy;
Edified Edition (EDE)For if I make you sorrowful, then who is he who makes me glad but the one who is made sorrowful by me?

εἰ γὰρ ἐγὼ λυπῶ ὑμᾶς, καὶ ⸀τίς ὁ εὐφραίνων με εἰ μὴ ὁ λυπούμενος ἐξ ἐμοῦ;

3
Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀egrapsa toyto ayto hina me elthon lypen ⸀scho aphʼ hon edei me chairein, pepoithos epi pantas hymas hoti he eme chara panton hymon estin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And I wrote this very thing to you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from those of whom I ought to have joy, having confidence in you all that my joy is the joy of you all.

4
Phonetic (Greek): ek gar polles thlipseos kai synoches kardias egrapsa hymin dia pollon dakryon, oych hina lypethete, alla ten agapen hina gnote hen echo perissoteros eis hymas.
Edified Edition (EDE)For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you, with many tears, not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have so abundantly for you.

5
Phonetic (Greek): Ei de tis lelypeken, oyk eme lelypeken, alla apo merous hina me epibaro pantas hymas.
Edified Edition (EDE)But if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me, but all of you to some extent, not to be too severe.

6
Phonetic (Greek): hikanon tῷ toioytῳ he epitimia ahyte he hypo ton pleionon,
Edified Edition (EDE)This punishment which was inflicted by the majority is sufficient for such a man,

7
Phonetic (Greek): hoste toynantion ⸀mallon hymas charisasthai kai parakalesai, me pos tῇ perissoterᾳ lypῃ katapothῇ ho toioytos.
Edified Edition (EDE)so that, on the contrary, you ought rather to forgive and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one be swallowed up with too much sorrow.

8
Phonetic (Greek): dio parakalo hymas kyrosai eis ayton agapen·
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love to him.

9
Phonetic (Greek): eis toyto gar kai egrapsa hina gno ten dokimen hymon, ei eis panta hypekooi este.
Edified Edition (EDE)For to this end I also wrote, that I might put you to the test, whether you are obedient in all things.

10
Phonetic (Greek): ho de ti charizesthe, kago· kai gar ego ⸂ho kecharismai, ei ti⸃ kecharismai, diʼ hymas en prosopῳ Christoy,
Edified Edition (EDE)Now whom you forgive anything, I also forgive; for if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ,

11
Phonetic (Greek): hina me pleonektethomen hypo toy Satana, oy gar aytoy ta noemata agnooymen.
Edified Edition (EDE)lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.

12
Phonetic (Greek): Ἐlthon de eis ten Trῳada eis to eyangelion toy Christoy kai thyras moi aneῳgmenes en kyriῳ,
Edified Edition (EDE)Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened to me by the Lord,

13
Phonetic (Greek): oyk escheka anesin tῷ pneymati mou tῷ me ehyrein me Titon ton adelphon mou, alla apotaxamenos aytois exelthon eis Makedonian.
Edified Edition (EDE)I had no rest in my spirit, because I did not find Titus my brother; but taking my leave of them, I departed for Macedonia.

14
Phonetic (Greek): Tῷ de theῷ charis tῷ pantote thriambeyonti hemas en tῷ Christῷ kai ten osmen tes gnoseos aytoy phaneroynti diʼ hemon en panti topῳ·
Edified Edition (EDE)Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.

15
Phonetic (Greek): hoti Christoy eyodia esmen tῷ theῷ en tois sῳzomenois kai en tois apollymenois,
Edified Edition (EDE)For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

16
Phonetic (Greek): ohis men osme ⸀ek thanatou eis thanaton, ohis de osme ⸁ek zoes eis zoen. kai pros tayta tis hikanos;
Edified Edition (EDE)To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?

οἷς μὲν ὀσμὴ ⸀ἐκ θανάτου εἰς θάνατον, οἷς δὲ ὀσμὴ ⸁ἐκ ζωῆς εἰς ζωήν. καὶ πρὸς ταῦτα τίς ἱκανός;

17
Phonetic (Greek): oy gar esmen hos ohi ⸀polloi kapeleyontes ton logon toy theoy, allʼ hos ex eilikrineias, allʼ hos ek theoy ⸀katenanti theoy en Christῷ laloymen.
Edified Edition (EDE)For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.
