2 Corinthians

Chapter 8
1
Phonetic (Greek): Gnorizomen de hymin, adelphoi, ten charin toy theoy ten dedomenen en tais ekklesiais tes Makedonias,
Edified Edition (EDE)Moreover, brothers, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia:

2
Phonetic (Greek): hoti en pollῇ dokimῇ thlipseos he perisseia tes charas ayton kai he kata bathous ptocheia ayton eperisseusen eis ⸂to ploytos⸃ tes haplotetos ayton·
Edified Edition (EDE)that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality.

3
Phonetic (Greek): hoti kata dynamin, martyro, kai ⸀para dynamin, aythairetoi
Edified Edition (EDE)For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing,

4
Phonetic (Greek): meta polles parakleseos deomenoi hemon, ten charin kai ten koinonian tes diakonias tes eis toys hagious—
Edified Edition (EDE)imploring us with much urgency that we would receive the gift and the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.

5
Phonetic (Greek): kai oy kathos elpisamen allʼ heautoys edokan proton tῷ kyriῳ kai hemin dia thelematos theoy,
Edified Edition (EDE)And not only as we had hoped, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God.

6
Phonetic (Greek): eis to parakalesai hemas Titon hina kathos proenerxato ohytos kai epitelesῃ eis hymas kai ten charin tayten·
Edified Edition (EDE)So we urged Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also complete this grace in you as well.

7
Phonetic (Greek): allʼ hosper en panti perisseyete, pistei kai logῳ kai gnosei kai pasῃ spoudῇ kai tῇ ex ⸂hemon en hymin⸃ agapῃ, hina kai en taytῃ tῇ chariti perisseyete.
Edified Edition (EDE)But as you abound in everything, in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all diligence, and in your love for us, see that you abound in this grace also.

8
Phonetic (Greek): Oy katʼ epitagen lego alla dia tes heteron spoudes kai to tes hymeteras agapes gnesion dokimazon·
Edified Edition (EDE)I speak not by commandment, but I am testing the sincerity of your love by the diligence of others.

9
Phonetic (Greek): ginoskete gar ten charin toy kyriou hemon Ἰesoy Christoy, hoti diʼ hymas eptocheusen ploysios on, hina hymeis tῇ ekeinou ptocheiᾳ ploutesete.
Edified Edition (EDE)For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

10
Phonetic (Greek): kai gnomen en toytῳ didomi· toyto gar hymin sympherei, ohitines oy monon to poiesai alla kai to thelein proenerxasthe apo perysi·
Edified Edition (EDE)And in this I give advice: It is to your advantage not only to be doing what you began and were desiring to do a year ago;

11
Phonetic (Greek): nyni de kai to poiesai epitelesate, hopos kathaper he prothymia toy thelein ohytos kai to epitelesai ek toy echein.
Edified Edition (EDE)but now you must also complete the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to desire it, so there also may be a completion out of what you have.

12
Phonetic (Greek): ei gar he prothymia prokeitai, katho ean ⸀echῃ eyprosdektos, oy katho oyk echei.
Edified Edition (EDE)For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have.

13
Phonetic (Greek): oy gar hina allois anesis, ⸀hymin thlipsis· allʼ ex isotetos
Edified Edition (EDE)For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened;

14
Phonetic (Greek): en tῷ nyn kairῷ to hymon perisseuma eis to ekeinon hysterema, hina kai to ekeinon perisseuma genetai eis to hymon hysterema, hopos genetai isotes·
Edified Edition (EDE)but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may supply their lack, that their abundance also may supply your lack, that there may be equality.

15
Phonetic (Greek): kathos gegraptai· Ὁ to poly oyk epleonasen, kai ho to oligon oyk elattonesen.
Edified Edition (EDE)As it is written, "He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack."

16
Phonetic (Greek): Charis de tῷ theῷ tῷ ⸀didonti ten ayten spouden hyper hymon en tῇ kardiᾳ Titou,
Edified Edition (EDE)But thanks be to God who puts the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus.

17
Phonetic (Greek): hoti ten men paraklesin edexato, spoudaioteros de hyparchon aythairetos exelthen pros hymas.
Edified Edition (EDE)For he not only accepted the exhortation, but being more diligent, he went to you of his own accord.

Edified Edition (EDE)And we have sent with him the brother whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches,

19
Phonetic (Greek): oy monon de alla kai cheirotonetheis hypo ton ekklesion synekdemos hemon ⸀syn tῇ chariti taytῃ tῇ diakonoumenῃ hyphʼ hemon pros ten ⸀aytoy toy kyriou doxan kai prothymian hemon—
Edified Edition (EDE)and not only that, but who was also chosen by the churches to travel with us with this gift, which is administered by us to the glory of the Lord Himself and to show your ready mind,

20
Phonetic (Greek): stellomenoi toyto me tis hemas momesetai en tῇ hadroteti taytῃ tῇ diakonoumenῃ hyphʼ hemon,
Edified Edition (EDE)avoiding this: that anyone should blame us in this generous gift which is administered by us,

21
Phonetic (Greek): ⸂pronooymen gar⸃ kala oy monon enopion kyriou alla kai enopion anthropon.
Edified Edition (EDE)providing honourable things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

22
Phonetic (Greek): synepempsamen de aytois ton adelphon hemon hon edokimasamen en pollois pollakis spoudaion onta, nyni de poly spoudaioteron pepoithesei pollῇ tῇ eis hymas.
Edified Edition (EDE)And we have sent with them our brother whom we have often proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, because of the great confidence which we have in you.

23
Phonetic (Greek): eite hyper Titou, koinonos emos kai eis hymas synergos· eite adelphoi hemon, apostoloi ekklesion, doxa Christoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)If anyone inquires about Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker concerning you. Or if our brothers are inquired about, they are messengers of the churches, the glory of Christ.

24
Phonetic (Greek): ten oyn endeixin tes agapes hymon kai hemon kaucheseos hyper hymon eis aytoys ⸀endeiknymenoi eis prosopon ton ekklesion.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore show to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love and of our boasting on your behalf.
