Chapter 12
1
Phonetic (Greek): Katʼ ekeinon de ton kairon epebalen Ἡrῴdes ho basileys tas cheiras kakosai tinas ton apo tes ekklesias.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now about that time Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some from the church.

2
Phonetic (Greek): aneilen de Ἰakobon ton adelphon Ἰoannou machairῃ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

3
Phonetic (Greek): ⸂idon de⸃ hoti areston estin tois Ἰoudaiois prosetheto syllabein kai Petron (esan ⸀de hemerai ton azymon),
Edified Edition (EDE)And because he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to seize Peter also. Now it was during the Days of Unleavened Bread.

4
Phonetic (Greek): hon kai piasas etheto eis phylaken, paradoys tessarsin tetradiois stratioton phylassein ayton, boulomenos meta to pascha anagagein ayton tῷ laῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)So when he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before the people after Passover.

5
Phonetic (Greek): ho men oyn Petros etereito en tῇ phylakῇ· proseuche de en ⸀ektenos ginomene hypo tes ekklesias pros ton theon ⸀peri aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church.

6
Phonetic (Greek): Ὅte de emellen ⸂proagagein ayton⸃ ho Ἡrῴdes, tῇ nykti ekeinῃ en ho Petros koimomenos metaxy dyo stratioton dedemenos halysesin dysin, phylakes te pro tes thyras eteroun ten phylaken.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison.

7
Phonetic (Greek): kai idoy angelos kyriou epeste, kai phos elampsen en tῷ oikemati· pataxas de ten pleuran toy Petrou egeiren ayton legon· Ἀnasta en tachei· kai exepesan aytoy ahi halyseis ek ton cheiron.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, "Arise quickly!" And his chains fell off his hands.

8
Phonetic (Greek): eipen ⸀de ho angelos pros ayton· ⸀Zosai kai hypodesai ta sandalia sou· epoiesen de ohytos. kai legei aytῷ· Peribaloy to himation sou kai akoloythei moi.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the angel said to him, "Gird yourself and tie on your sandals"; and so he did. And he said to him, "Put on your garment and follow me."

9
Phonetic (Greek): kai exelthon ⸀ekoloythei, kai oyk edei hoti alethes estin to ginomenon dia toy angelou, edokei de horama blepein.
Edified Edition (EDE)So he went out and followed him, and did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.

10
Phonetic (Greek): dielthontes de proten phylaken kai deuteran elthan epi ten pylen ten sideran ten pherousan eis ten polin, hetis aytomate enoige aytois, kai exelthontes proelthon ῥymen mian, kai eytheos apeste ho angelos apʼ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)When they were past the first and the second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened to them of its own accord; and they went out and continued down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.

11
Phonetic (Greek): kai ho Petros ⸂en heautῷ genomenos⸃ eipen· Nyn oida alethos hoti exapesteilen ⸀ho kyrios ton angelon aytoy kai exeilato me ek cheiros Ἡrῴdou kai pases tes prosdokias toy laoy ton Ἰoudaion.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when Peter had come to himself, he said, "Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent His angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jewish people."

12
Phonetic (Greek): Synidon te elthen epi ten oikian ⸀tes Marias tes metros Ἰoannou toy epikaloumenou Markou, ohy esan hikanoi synethroismenoi kai proseuchomenoi.
Edified Edition (EDE)So, when he had considered this, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying.

13
Phonetic (Greek): kroysantos de ⸀aytoy ten thyran toy pylonos proselthe paidiske hypakoysai onomati Ῥode,
Edified Edition (EDE)And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a girl named Rhoda came to answer.

14
Phonetic (Greek): kai epignoysa ten phonen toy Petrou apo tes charas oyk enoixen ton pylona, eisdramoysa de apengeilen hestanai ton Petron pro toy pylonos.
Edified Edition (EDE)When she recognised Peter’s voice, because of her gladness she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter stood before the gate.

15
Phonetic (Greek): ohi de pros ayten eipan· Mainῃ. he de diischyrizeto ohytos echein. ohi de elegon· Ὁ angelos ⸂estin aytoy⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)But they said to her, "You are beside yourself!" Yet she kept insisting that it was so. So they said, "It is his angel."

16
Phonetic (Greek): ho de Petros epemenen kroyon· anoixantes de eidan ayton kai exestesan.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now Peter continued knocking; and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished.

17
Phonetic (Greek): kataseisas de aytois tῇ cheiri sigan diegesato aytois pos ho kyrios ayton exegagen ek tes phylakes, eipen ⸀te· Ἀpangeilate Ἰakobῳ kai tois adelphois tayta. kai exelthon eporeythe eis heteron topon.
Edified Edition (EDE)But motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he declared to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, "Go, tell these things to James and to the brothers." And he departed and went to another place.

Edified Edition (EDE)Then, as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter.

19
Phonetic (Greek): Ἡrῴdes de epizetesas ayton kai me ehyron anakrinas toys phylakas ekeleusen apachthenai, kai katelthon apo tes Ἰoudaias ⸀eis Kaisareian dietriben.
Edified Edition (EDE)But when Herod had searched for him and not found him, he examined the guards and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judea to Caesarea, and stayed there.

20
Phonetic (Greek): Ἦn ⸀de thymomachon Tyriois kai Sidoniois· homothymadon de paresan pros ayton, kai peisantes Blaston ton epi toy koitonos toy basileos etoynto eirenen dia to trephesthai ayton ten choran apo tes basilikes.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now Herod had been very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; but they came to him with one accord, and having made Blastus the king’s personal aide their friend, they asked for peace, because their country was supplied with food by the king’s country.

21
Phonetic (Greek): taktῇ de hemerᾳ ho Ἡrῴdes endysamenos estheta basiliken ⸀kai kathisas epi toy bematos edemegorei pros aytoys·
Edified Edition (EDE)So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them.

22
Phonetic (Greek): ho de demos epephonei· ⸂Theoy phone⸃ kai oyk anthropou.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the people kept shouting, "The voice of a god and not of a man!"

23
Phonetic (Greek): parachrema de epataxen ayton angelos kyriou anthʼ hon oyk edoken ⸀ten doxan tῷ theῷ, kai genomenos skolekobrotos exepsyxen.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.

24
Phonetic (Greek): Ὁ de logos toy ⸀theoy eyxanen kai eplethyneto.
Edified Edition (EDE)But the word of God grew and multiplied.

25
Phonetic (Greek): Barnabas de kai Saylos hypestrepsan, ⸀eis Ἰerousalem plerosantes ten diakonian, ⸀symparalabontes Ἰoannen ton epiklethenta Markon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had fulfilled their ministry, and they also took with them John whose surname was Mark.
