Edified Edition (EDE)And certain men came down from Judea and taught the brothers, "Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved."

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore, when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and dispute with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas and certain others of them should go up to Jerusalem, to the apostles and elders, about this question.

3
Phonetic (Greek): ohi men oyn propemphthentes hypo tes ekklesias dierchonto ten ⸀te Phoiniken kai Samareian ekdiegoymenoi ten epistrophen ton ethnon, kai epoioun charan megalen pasi tois adelphois.
Edified Edition (EDE)So, being sent on their way by the church, they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, describing the conversion of the Gentiles; and they caused great joy to all the brothers.

4
Phonetic (Greek): paragenomenoi de eis ⸀Ἱerosolyma ⸀paredechthesan ⸀apo tes ekklesias kai ton apostolon kai ton presbyteron, anengeilan te hosa ho theos epoiesen metʼ ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they had come to Jerusalem, they were received by the church and the apostles and the elders; and they reported all things that God had done with them.

5
Phonetic (Greek): exanestesan de tines ton apo tes ahireseos ton Pharisaion pepisteukotes, legontes hoti dei peritemnein aytoys parangellein te terein ton nomon Moyseos.
Edified Edition (EDE)But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, "It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses."

6
Phonetic (Greek): Synechthesan ⸀te ohi apostoloi kai ohi presbyteroi idein peri toy logou toytou.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now the apostles and elders came together to consider this matter.

7
Phonetic (Greek): polles de ⸀zeteseos genomenes anastas Petros eipen pros aytoys· Ἄndres adelphoi, hymeis epistasthe hoti aphʼ hemeron archaion ⸂en hymin exelexato ho theos⸃ dia toy stomatos mou akoysai ta ethne ton logon toy eyangeliou kai pisteysai,
Edified Edition (EDE)And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them: "Men and brothers, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.

8
Phonetic (Greek): kai ho kardiognostes theos emartyresen aytois ⸀doys to pneyma to hagion kathos kai hemin,
Edified Edition (EDE)So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us,

9
Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀oythen diekrinen metaxy hemon te kai ayton, tῇ pistei katharisas tas kardias ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

10
Phonetic (Greek): nyn oyn ti peirazete ton theon, epitheinai zygon epi ton trachelon ton matheton hon oyte ohi pateres hemon oyte hemeis ischysamen bastasai;
Edified Edition (EDE)Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

νῦν οὖν τί πειράζετε τὸν θεόν, ἐπιθεῖναι ζυγὸν ἐπὶ τὸν τράχηλον τῶν μαθητῶν ὃν οὔτε οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν οὔτε ἡμεῖς ἰσχύσαμεν βαστάσαι;

11
Phonetic (Greek): alla dia tes charitos toy kyriou Ἰesoy pisteyomen sothenai kathʼ hon tropon kakeinoi.
Edified Edition (EDE)But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they."

12
Phonetic (Greek): Ἐsigesen de pan to plethos, kai ekouon Barnaba kai Paylou exegoumenon hosa epoiesen ho theos semeia kai terata en tois ethnesin diʼ ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then all the multitude kept silent and listened to Barnabas and Paul declaring how many miracles and wonders God had worked through them among the Gentiles.

13
Phonetic (Greek): meta de to sigesai aytoys apekrithe Ἰakobos legon· Ἄndres adelphoi, akoysate mou.
Edified Edition (EDE)And after they had become silent, James answered, saying, "Men and brothers, listen to me:

14
Phonetic (Greek): Symeon exegesato kathos proton ho theos epeskepsato labein ex ethnon ⸀laon tῷ onomati aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Simon has declared how God at the first visited the Gentiles to take out of them a people for His name.

15
Phonetic (Greek): kai toytῳ symphonoysin ohi logoi ton propheton, kathos gegraptai·
Edified Edition (EDE)And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written:

16
Phonetic (Greek): Meta tayta anastrepso kai anoikodomeso ten skenen Dauid ten peptokyian kai ta ⸀kateskammena aytes anoikodomeso kai anorthoso ayten,
Edified Edition (EDE)‘After this I will return And will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down; I will rebuild its ruins, And I will set it up;

Edified Edition (EDE)So that the rest of mankind may seek the LORD, Even all the Gentiles who are called by My name, Says the LORD who does all these things.’

18

19
Phonetic (Greek): dio ego krino me parenochlein tois apo ton ethnon epistrephousin epi ton theon,
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God,

20
Phonetic (Greek): alla episteilai aytois toy ⸀apechesthai ton alisgematon ton eidolon kai tes porneias kai ⸀toy pniktoy kai toy ahimatos·
Edified Edition (EDE)but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood.

21
Phonetic (Greek): Moyses gar ek geneon archaion kata polin toys keryssontas ayton echei en tais synagogais kata pan sabbaton anaginoskomenos.
Edified Edition (EDE)For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath."

Edified Edition (EDE)Then it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas who was surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers.

Edified Edition (EDE)Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, "You must be circumcised and keep the law", to whom we gave no such commandment,

27
Phonetic (Greek): apestalkamen oyn Ἰoydan kai Silan, kai aytoys dia logou apangellontas ta ayta.
Edified Edition (EDE)We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth.

28
Phonetic (Greek): edoxen gar tῷ ⸂pneymati tῷ hagiῳ⸃ kai hemin meden pleon epitithesthai hymin baros plen ⸂toyton ton epanankes⸃,
Edified Edition (EDE)For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:

30
Phonetic (Greek): Ohi men oyn apolythentes ⸀katelthon eis Ἀntiocheian, kai synagagontes to plethos epedokan ten epistolen·
Edified Edition (EDE)So when they were sent off, they came to Antioch; and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the letter.

31

32
Phonetic (Greek): Ἰoydas te kai Silas, kai aytoi prophetai ontes, dia logou polloy parekalesan toys adelphoys kai epesterixan·
Edified Edition (EDE)Now Judas and Silas, themselves being prophets also, exhorted and strengthened the brothers with many words.

Edified Edition (EDE)Then after some days Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us now go back and visit our brothers in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they are doing."

39
