Chapter 16
1
Phonetic (Greek): Katentesen de ⸀kai eis Derben kai ⸀eis Lystran. kai idoy mathetes tis en ekei onomati Timotheos, yhios ⸀gynaikos Ἰoudaias pistes, patros de Ἕllenos,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then he came to Derbe and Lystra. And behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a certain Jewish woman who believed, but his father was Greek.

2
Phonetic (Greek): hos emartyreito hypo ton en Lystrois kai Ἰkoniῳ adelphon·
Edified Edition (EDE)He was well spoken of by the brothers who were at Lystra and Iconium.

3
Phonetic (Greek): toyton ethelesen ho Paylos syn aytῷ exelthein, kai labon perietemen ayton dia toys Ἰoudaious toys ontas en tois topois ekeinois, edeisan gar hapantes ⸂hoti Ἕllen ho pater aytoy⸃ hyperchen.
Edified Edition (EDE)Paul wanted to have him go on with him. And he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in that region, for they all knew that his father was Greek.

4
Phonetic (Greek): hos de dieporeyonto tas poleis, ⸀paredidosan aytois phylassein ta dogmata ta kekrimena hypo ton apostolon ⸀kai presbyteron ton en ⸀Ἱerosolymois.
Edified Edition (EDE)And as they went through the cities, they delivered to them the decrees to keep, which were determined by the apostles and elders at Jerusalem.

5
Phonetic (Greek): ahi men oyn ekklesiai estereoynto tῇ pistei kai eperisseuon tῷ arithmῷ kathʼ hemeran.
Edified Edition (EDE)So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.

6
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀Dielthon de ten Phrygian ⸀kai Galatiken choran, kolythentes hypo toy hagiou pneymatos lalesai ton logon en tῇ Ἀsiᾳ,
Edified Edition (EDE)Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia.

7
Phonetic (Greek): elthontes ⸀de kata ten Mysian epeirazon ⸀eis ten Bithynian ⸀poreuthenai kai oyk eiasen aytoys to pneyma ⸀Ἰesoy·
Edified Edition (EDE)After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them.

8
Phonetic (Greek): parelthontes de ten Mysian katebesan eis Trῳada.
Edified Edition (EDE)So, passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas.

9
Phonetic (Greek): kai horama ⸀dia nyktos ⸂tῷ Paylῳ ophthe⸃, aner ⸂Makedon tis en⸃ hestos ⸀kai parakalon ayton kai legon· Diabas eis Makedonian boetheson hemin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, "Come over to Macedonia and help us."

10
Phonetic (Greek): hos de to horama eiden, eytheos ezetesamen exelthein ⸀eis Makedonian, symbibazontes hoti proskekletai hemas ho ⸀theos eyangelisasthai aytoys.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.

11
Phonetic (Greek): Ἀnachthentes ⸀oyn ⸀apo Trῳados eythydromesamen eis Samothrᾴken, tῇ ⸀de epioysῃ eis ⸂Nean Polin⸃,
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore, sailing from Troas, we ran a straight course to Samothrace, and the next day came to Neapolis,

12
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀kakeithen eis Philippous, hetis estin ⸂prote tes meridos⸃ Makedonias polis, kolonia. emen de en ⸀taytῃ tῇ polei diatribontes hemeras tinas.
Edified Edition (EDE)and from there to Philippi, which is the foremost city of that part of Macedonia, a colony. And we were staying in that city for some days.

13
Phonetic (Greek): tῇ te hemerᾳ ton sabbaton exelthomen exo tes ⸀pyles para potamon ohy ⸂enomizomen proseuchen⸃ einai, kai kathisantes elaloymen tais synelthoysais gynaixin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And on the Sabbath day we went out of the city to the riverside, where prayer was customarily made; and we sat down and spoke to the women who met there.

14
Phonetic (Greek): kai tis gyne onomati Lydia, porphyropolis poleos Thyateiron sebomene ton theon, ekouen, hes ho kyrios dienoixen ten kardian prosechein tois laloumenois hypo ⸀toy Paylou.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshipped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.

15
Phonetic (Greek): hos de ebaptisthe kai ho oikos aytes, parekalesen legousa· Ei kekrikate me pisten tῷ kyriῳ einai, eiselthontes eis ton oikon mou ⸀menete· kai parebiasato hemas.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when she and her household were baptised, she begged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay." So she persuaded us.

16
Phonetic (Greek): Ἐgeneto de poreuomenon hemon eis ⸀ten proseuchen paidisken tina echousan pneyma ⸀pythona ⸀hypantesai hemin, hetis ergasian pollen pareichen tois kyriois aytes manteuomene·
Edified Edition (EDE)Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling.

17

Edified Edition (EDE)This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, "These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation."

18
Phonetic (Greek): toyto de epoiei epi pollas hemeras. diaponetheis ⸀de Paylos kai epistrepsas tῷ pneymati eipen· Parangello soi ⸀en onomati Ἰesoy Christoy exelthein apʼ aytes· kai exelthen aytῇ tῇ horᾳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And he came out that very hour.

19

Edified Edition (EDE)But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities.

22
Phonetic (Greek): kai synepeste ho ochlos katʼ ayton, kai ohi strategoi perirexantes ayton ta himatia ekeleuon ῥabdizein,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods.

Edified Edition (EDE)And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely.

Edified Edition (EDE)Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

25

26
Phonetic (Greek): aphno de seismos egeneto megas hoste saleuthenai ta themelia toy desmoteriou, eneῴchthesan ⸀de parachrema ahi thyrai pasai, kai panton ta desma anethe.
Edified Edition (EDE)Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.

Edified Edition (EDE)And the jailer, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself.

33
Phonetic (Greek): kai paralabon aytoys en ekeinῃ tῇ horᾳ tes nyktos elousen apo ton plegon, kai ebaptisthe aytos kai ohi aytoy ⸀pantes parachrema,

34
Phonetic (Greek): anagagon te aytoys eis ton ⸀oikon paretheken trapezan kai ⸀egalliasato panoikei pepisteukos tῷ theῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.
