Edified Edition (EDE)Now after five days Ananias the high priest came down with the elders and a certain orator named Tertullus. These gave evidence to the governor against Paul.

Μετὰ δὲ πέντε ἡμέρας κατέβη ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς Ἁνανίας μετὰ ⸂πρεσβυτέρων τινῶν⸃ καὶ ῥήτορος Τερτύλλου τινός, οἵτινες ἐνεφάνισαν τῷ ἡγεμόνι κατὰ τοῦ Παύλου.

Phonetic (Greek): klethentos de aytoy erxato kategorein ho Tertyllos legon· Polles eirenes tynchanontes dia soy kai ⸀diorthomaton ginomenon tῷ ethnei toytῳ dia tes ses pronoias
Edified Edition (EDE)And when he was called upon, Tertullus began his accusation, saying: "Seeing that through you we enjoy great peace, and prosperity is being brought to this nation by your foresight,

κληθέντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ἤρξατο κατηγορεῖν ὁ Τέρτυλλος λέγων· Πολλῆς εἰρήνης τυγχάνοντες διὰ σοῦ καὶ ⸀διορθωμάτων γινομένων τῷ ἔθνει τούτῳ διὰ τῆς σῆς προνοίας

Phonetic (Greek): pantῃ te kai pantachoy apodechometha, kratiste Phelix, meta pases eycharistias.
Edified Edition (EDE)we accept it always and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.

πάντῃ τε καὶ πανταχοῦ ἀποδεχόμεθα, κράτιστε Φῆλιξ, μετὰ πάσης εὐχαριστίας.

Phonetic (Greek): hina de me epi pleion se enkopto, parakalo akoysai se hemon syntomos tῇ sῇ epieikeiᾳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Nevertheless, not to be further tedious to you, I beg you to hear, by your courtesy, a few words from us.

ἵνα δὲ μὴ ἐπὶ πλεῖόν σε ἐγκόπτω, παρακαλῶ ἀκοῦσαί σε ἡμῶν συντόμως τῇ σῇ ἐπιεικείᾳ.

Phonetic (Greek): ehyrontes gar ton andra toyton loimon kai kinoynta ⸀staseis pasi tois Ἰoudaiois tois kata ten oikoumenen protostaten te tes ton Nazoraion ahireseos,
Edified Edition (EDE)For we have found this man a plague, a creator of dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

εὑρόντες γὰρ τὸν ἄνδρα τοῦτον λοιμὸν καὶ κινοῦντα ⸀στάσεις πᾶσι τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις τοῖς κατὰ τὴν οἰκουμένην πρωτοστάτην τε τῆς τῶν Ναζωραίων αἱρέσεως,

Phonetic (Greek): hos kai to hieron epeirasen bebelosai, hon kai ⸀ekratesamen,
Edified Edition (EDE)He even tried to profane the temple, and we seized him, and wanted to judge him according to our law.

ὃς καὶ τὸ ἱερὸν ἐπείρασεν βεβηλῶσαι, ὃν καὶ ⸀ἐκρατήσαμεν,

Phonetic (Greek): parʼ ohy dynesῃ aytos anakrinas peri panton toyton epignonai hon hemeis kategoroymen aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)commanding his accusers to come to you. By examining him yourself you may ascertain all these things of which we accuse him."

παρʼ οὗ δυνήσῃ αὐτὸς ἀνακρίνας περὶ πάντων τούτων ἐπιγνῶναι ὧν ἡμεῖς κατηγοροῦμεν αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): synepethento de kai ohi Ἰoudaioi phaskontes tayta ohytos echein.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the Jews also assented, maintaining that these things were so.

συνεπέθεντο δὲ καὶ οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι φάσκοντες ταῦτα οὕτως ἔχειν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀpekrithe ⸀te ho Paylos neysantos aytῷ toy hegemonos legein· Ἐk pollon eton onta se kriten tῷ ethnei toytῳ epistamenos ⸀eythymos ta peri emautoy apologoymai,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Paul, after the governor had motioned to him to speak, answered: "Inasfar as I know that you have been for many years a judge of this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself,

Ἀπεκρίθη ⸀τε ὁ Παῦλος νεύσαντος αὐτῷ τοῦ ἡγεμόνος λέγειν· Ἐκ πολλῶν ἐτῶν ὄντα σε κριτὴν τῷ ἔθνει τούτῳ ἐπιστάμενος ⸀εὐθύμως τὰ περὶ ἐμαυτοῦ ἀπολογοῦμαι,

Phonetic (Greek): dynamenou sou ⸀epignonai, hoti oy pleious eisin moi hemerai ⸀dodeka aphʼ hes aneben proskyneson ⸀eis Ἰerousalem,
Edified Edition (EDE)because you may ascertain that it is no more than twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem to worship.

δυναμένου σου ⸀ἐπιγνῶναι, ὅτι οὐ πλείους εἰσίν μοι ἡμέραι ⸀δώδεκα ἀφʼ ἧς ἀνέβην προσκυνήσων ⸀εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ,

Phonetic (Greek): kai oyte en tῷ hierῷ ehyron me pros tina dialegomenon e ⸀epistasin poioynta ochlou oyte en tais synagogais oyte kata ten polin,
Edified Edition (EDE)And they neither found me in the temple disputing with anyone nor inciting the crowd, either in the synagogues or in the city.

καὶ οὔτε ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ εὗρόν με πρός τινα διαλεγόμενον ἢ ⸀ἐπίστασιν ποιοῦντα ὄχλου οὔτε ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς οὔτε κατὰ τὴν πόλιν,

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀oyde ⸀parastesai dynantai ⸀soi peri hon ⸀nyni kategoroysin mou.
Edified Edition (EDE)Nor can they prove the things of which they now accuse me.

⸀οὐδὲ ⸀παραστῆσαι δύνανταί ⸀σοι περὶ ὧν ⸀νυνὶ κατηγοροῦσίν μου.

Phonetic (Greek): homologo de toyto soi hoti kata ten hodon hen legousin ahiresin ohytos latreyo tῷ patrῴῳ theῷ, pisteyon pasi tois kata ton nomon kai ⸂tois en⸃ tois prophetais gegrammenois,
Edified Edition (EDE)But this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets.

ὁμολογῶ δὲ τοῦτό σοι ὅτι κατὰ τὴν ὁδὸν ἣν λέγουσιν αἵρεσιν οὕτως λατρεύω τῷ πατρῴῳ θεῷ, πιστεύων πᾶσι τοῖς κατὰ τὸν νόμον καὶ ⸂τοῖς ἐν⸃ τοῖς προφήταις γεγραμμένοις,

Phonetic (Greek): elpida echon eis ton theon, hen kai aytoi ohytoi prosdechontai, anastasin mellein ⸀esesthai dikaion te kai adikon·
Edified Edition (EDE)I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.

ἐλπίδα ἔχων εἰς τὸν θεόν, ἣν καὶ αὐτοὶ οὗτοι προσδέχονται, ἀνάστασιν μέλλειν ⸀ἔσεσθαι δικαίων τε καὶ ἀδίκων·

Phonetic (Greek): en toytῳ ⸀kai aytos asko aproskopon syneidesin ⸀echein pros ton theon kai toys anthropous dia pantos.
Edified Edition (EDE)This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience void of offence toward God and men.

ἐν τούτῳ ⸀καὶ αὐτὸς ἀσκῶ ἀπρόσκοπον συνείδησιν ⸀ἔχειν πρὸς τὸν θεὸν καὶ τοὺς ἀνθρώπους διὰ παντός.

Phonetic (Greek): diʼ eton de pleionon ⸂eleemosynas poieson eis to ethnos mou paregenomen⸃ kai prosphoras,
Edified Edition (EDE)Now after many years I came to bring alms and offerings to my nation,

διʼ ἐτῶν δὲ πλειόνων ⸂ἐλεημοσύνας ποιήσων εἰς τὸ ἔθνος μου παρεγενόμην⸃ καὶ προσφοράς,

Phonetic (Greek): en ⸀ahis ehyron me hegnismenon en tῷ hierῷ, oy meta ochlou oyde meta thorybou,
Edified Edition (EDE)in the midst of which some Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with a mob nor with tumult.

ἐν ⸀αἷς εὗρόν με ἡγνισμένον ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ, οὐ μετὰ ὄχλου οὐδὲ μετὰ θορύβου,

Phonetic (Greek): tines de apo tes Ἀsias Ἰoudaioi, ohys ⸀edei epi soy pareinai kai kategorein ei ti echoien pros ⸀eme,
Edified Edition (EDE)They ought to have been here before you to object if they had anything against me.

τινὲς δὲ ἀπὸ τῆς Ἀσίας Ἰουδαῖοι, οὓς ⸀ἔδει ἐπὶ σοῦ παρεῖναι καὶ κατηγορεῖν εἴ τι ἔχοιεν πρὸς ⸀ἐμέ,

Phonetic (Greek): e aytoi ohytoi eipatosan ti ⸀ehyron adikema stantos mou epi toy synedriou
Edified Edition (EDE)Or else let those who are here themselves say if they found any wrongdoing in me while I stood before the council,

ἢ αὐτοὶ οὗτοι εἰπάτωσαν τί ⸀εὗρον ἀδίκημα στάντος μου ἐπὶ τοῦ συνεδρίου

Phonetic (Greek): e peri mias taytes phones hes ekekraxa ⸂en aytois hestos⸃ hoti Peri anastaseos nekron ego krinomai semeron ⸀ephʼ hymon.
Edified Edition (EDE)unless it is for this one statement which I cried out, standing among them, ‘Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged by you this day.’"

ἢ περὶ μιᾶς ταύτης φωνῆς ἧς ἐκέκραξα ⸂ἐν αὐτοῖς ἑστὼς⸃ ὅτι Περὶ ἀναστάσεως νεκρῶν ἐγὼ κρίνομαι σήμερον ⸀ἐφʼ ὑμῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂Ἀnebaleto de aytoys ho Phelix⸃, akribesteron eidos ta peri tes hodoy, ⸀eipas· Ὅtan Lysias ho chiliarchos katabῇ diagnosomai ta kathʼ hymas·
Edified Edition (EDE)But when Felix heard these things, having more accurate knowledge of the Way, he adjourned the proceedings and said, "When Lysias the commander comes down, I will make a decision on your case."

⸂Ἀνεβάλετο δὲ αὐτοὺς ὁ Φῆλιξ⸃, ἀκριβέστερον εἰδὼς τὰ περὶ τῆς ὁδοῦ, ⸀εἴπας· Ὅταν Λυσίας ὁ χιλίαρχος καταβῇ διαγνώσομαι τὰ καθʼ ὑμᾶς·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀diataxamenos tῷ hekatontarchῃ tereisthai ⸀ayton echein te anesin kai medena kolyein ton idion aytoy ⸀hyperetein aytῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)So he commanded the centurion to keep Paul and to let him have liberty, and told him not to forbid any of his friends to provide for or visit him.

⸀διαταξάμενος τῷ ἑκατοντάρχῃ τηρεῖσθαι ⸀αὐτὸν ἔχειν τε ἄνεσιν καὶ μηδένα κωλύειν τῶν ἰδίων αὐτοῦ ⸀ὑπηρετεῖν αὐτῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): Meta de hemeras tinas paragenomenos ho Phelix syn Drousillῃ tῇ ⸀idiᾳ gynaiki oysῃ Ἰoudaiᾳ metepempsato ton Paylon kai ekousen aytoy peri tes eis Christon ⸀Ἰesoyn pisteos.
Edified Edition (EDE)And after some days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

Μετὰ δὲ ἡμέρας τινὰς παραγενόμενος ὁ Φῆλιξ σὺν Δρουσίλλῃ τῇ ⸀ἰδίᾳ γυναικὶ οὔσῃ Ἰουδαίᾳ μετεπέμψατο τὸν Παῦλον καὶ ἤκουσεν αὐτοῦ περὶ τῆς εἰς Χριστὸν ⸀Ἰησοῦν πίστεως.

Edified Edition (EDE)Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgement to come, Felix was afraid and answered, "Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you."

διαλεγομένου δὲ αὐτοῦ περὶ δικαιοσύνης καὶ ἐγκρατείας καὶ τοῦ κρίματος τοῦ ⸀μέλλοντος ἔμφοβος γενόμενος ὁ Φῆλιξ ἀπεκρίθη· Τὸ νῦν ἔχον πορεύου, καιρὸν δὲ μεταλαβὼν μετακαλέσομαί σε·

Phonetic (Greek): hama kai elpizon hoti chremata dothesetai aytῷ hypo toy ⸀Paylou· dio kai pyknoteron ayton metapempomenos homilei aytῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Meanwhile he also hoped that money would be given him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore he sent for him more often and conversed with him.

ἅμα καὶ ἐλπίζων ὅτι χρήματα δοθήσεται αὐτῷ ὑπὸ τοῦ ⸀Παύλου· διὸ καὶ πυκνότερον αὐτὸν μεταπεμπόμενος ὡμίλει αὐτῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): Dietias de plerotheises elaben diadochon ho Phelix Porkion Pheston· thelon te ⸀charita katathesthai tois Ἰoudaiois ho Phelix katelipe ton Paylon dedemenon.
Edified Edition (EDE)But after two years Porcius Festus succeeded Felix; and Felix, wanting to do the Jews a favour, left Paul bound.

Διετίας δὲ πληρωθείσης ἔλαβεν διάδοχον ὁ Φῆλιξ Πόρκιον Φῆστον· θέλων τε ⸀χάριτα καταθέσθαι τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις ὁ Φῆλιξ κατέλιπε τὸν Παῦλον δεδεμένον.
