1
Phonetic (Greek): Ὡs de ekrithe toy apoplein hemas eis ten Ἰtalian, paredidoun ton te Paylon kai tinas heterous desmotas hekatontarchῃ onomati Ἰouliῳ speires Sebastes.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when it was decided that we should sail to Italy, they delivered Paul and some other prisoners to one named Julius, a centurion of the Augustan Regiment.

2
Phonetic (Greek): epibantes de ploiῳ Ἀdramyttenῷ ⸀mellonti plein ⸀eis toys kata ten Ἀsian topous anechthemen ontos syn hemin Ἀristarchou Makedonos Thessalonikeos·
Edified Edition (EDE)So, entering a ship of Adramyttium, we put to sea, meaning to sail along the coasts of Asia. Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, was with us.

3
Phonetic (Greek): tῇ te heterᾳ katechthemen eis Sidona, philanthropos te ho Ἰoylios tῷ Paylῳ chresamenos epetrepsen pros toys philous ⸀poreuthenti epimeleias tychein.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the next day we landed at Sidon. And Julius treated Paul kindly and gave him liberty to go to his friends and receive care.

4
Phonetic (Greek): kakeithen anachthentes hypepleysamen ten Kypron dia to toys anemous einai enantious,
Edified Edition (EDE)When we had put to sea from there, we sailed under the shelter of Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.

5
Phonetic (Greek): to te pelagos to kata ten Kilikian kai Pamphylian diapleysantes katelthomen eis Myra tes Lykias.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when we had sailed over the sea which is off Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.

6
Phonetic (Greek): kakei ehyron ho ⸀hekatontarches ploion Ἀlexandrinon pleon eis ten Ἰtalian enebibasen hemas eis ayto.
Edified Edition (EDE)There the centurion found an Alexandrian ship sailing to Italy, and he put us on board.

7
Phonetic (Greek): en hikanais de hemerais bradyplooyntes kai molis genomenoi kata ten Knidon, me proseontos hemas toy anemou, hypepleysamen ten Kreten kata Salmonen,
Edified Edition (EDE)When we had sailed slowly many days, and arrived with difficulty off Cnidus, the wind not permitting us to proceed, we sailed under the shelter of Crete off Salmone.

8
Phonetic (Greek): molis te paralegomenoi ayten elthomen eis topon tina kaloymenon Kaloys Limenas ho engys ⸂en polis⸃ ⸀Lasaia.
Edified Edition (EDE)Passing it with difficulty, we came to a place called Fair Havens, near the city of Lasea.

9
Phonetic (Greek): Ἱkanoy de chronou diagenomenou kai ontos ede episphaloys toy ploos dia to kai ten nesteian ede parelelythenai, parῄnei ho Paylos
Edified Edition (EDE)Now when much time had been spent, and sailing was now dangerous because the Fast was already over, Paul advised them,

10
Phonetic (Greek): legon aytois· Ἄndres, theoro hoti meta hybreos kai polles zemias oy monon toy phortiou kai toy ploiou alla kai ton psychon hemon mellein esesthai ton ployn.
Edified Edition (EDE)saying, "Men, I perceive that this voyage will end with disaster and much loss, not only of the cargo and ship, but also of our lives."

11
Phonetic (Greek): ho de hekatontarches tῷ kybernetῃ kai tῷ nauklerῳ ⸂mallon epeitheto⸃ e tois ⸀hypo Paylou legomenois.
Edified Edition (EDE)Nevertheless the centurion was more persuaded by the helmsman and the owner of the ship than by the things spoken by Paul.

12
Phonetic (Greek): aneuthetou de toy limenos hyparchontos pros paracheimasian ohi pleiones ethento boulen anachthenai ⸀ekeithen, ei pos dynainto katantesantes eis Phoinika paracheimasai, limena tes Kretes bleponta kata liba kai kata choron.
Edified Edition (EDE)And because the harbour was not suitable to winter in, the majority advised to set sail from there also, if by any means they could reach Phoenix, a harbour of Crete opening toward the southwest and northwest, and winter there.

13
Phonetic (Greek): Ὑpopneysantos de notou doxantes tes protheseos kekratekenai arantes asson parelegonto ten Kreten.
Edified Edition (EDE)When the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their desire, putting out to sea, they sailed close by Crete.

14
Phonetic (Greek): metʼ oy poly de ebalen katʼ aytes anemos typhonikos ho kaloymenos ⸀Eyrakylon·
Edified Edition (EDE)But not long after, a tempestuous head wind arose, called Euroclydon.

15
Phonetic (Greek): synarpasthentos de toy ploiou kai me dynamenou antophthalmein tῷ anemῳ epidontes epherometha.
Edified Edition (EDE)So when the ship was caught, and could not head into the wind, we let her drive.

16
Phonetic (Greek): nesion de ti hypodramontes kaloymenon ⸀Kayda ⸂ischysamen molis⸃ perikrateis genesthai tes skaphes,
Edified Edition (EDE)And running under the shelter of a small island called Clauda, we secured the skiff with difficulty.

17
Phonetic (Greek): hen arantes boetheiais echronto hypozonnyntes to ploion· phoboymenoi te me eis ten Syrtin ekpesosin, chalasantes to skeyos, ohytos epheronto.
Edified Edition (EDE)When they had lifted it up, they used cables to undergird the ship; and fearing lest they should run aground on the Syrtis Sands, they struck sail and so were driven.

18
Phonetic (Greek): sphodros de cheimazomenon hemon tῇ hexes ekbolen epoioynto,
Edified Edition (EDE)And because we were exceedingly tempest-tossed, the next day they lightened the ship.

19
Phonetic (Greek): kai tῇ tritῃ aytocheires ten skeuen toy ploiou ⸀erripsan.
Edified Edition (EDE)On the third day we threw the ship’s tackle overboard with our own hands.

20
Phonetic (Greek): mete de heliou mete astron epiphainonton epi pleionas hemeras, cheimonos te oyk oligou epikeimenou, loipon periῃreito ⸂elpis pasa⸃ toy sῴzesthai hemas.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest beat on us, all hope that we would be saved was then given up.

21
Phonetic (Greek): Polles ⸀te asitias hyparchoyses tote statheis ho Paylos en mesῳ ayton eipen· Ἔdei men, o andres, peitharchesantas moi me anagesthai apo tes Kretes kerdesai te ten hybrin tayten kai ten zemian.
Edified Edition (EDE)But after long abstinence from food, Paul stood in the midst of them and said, "Men, you should have listened to me, and not have sailed from Crete and incurred this disaster and loss.

22
Phonetic (Greek): kai ta nyn paraino hymas eythymein, apobole gar psyches oydemia estai ex hymon plen toy ploiou·
Edified Edition (EDE)And now I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.

23
Phonetic (Greek): pareste gar moi taytῃ tῇ ⸀nykti toy theoy, ohy ⸀eimi, ho kai latreyo, ⸀angelos
Edified Edition (EDE)For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve,

24
Phonetic (Greek): legon· Me phoboy, Payle· Kaisari se dei parastenai, kai idoy kecharistai soi ho theos pantas toys pleontas meta soy.
Edified Edition (EDE)saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.’

25
Phonetic (Greek): dio eythymeite, andres· pisteyo gar tῷ theῷ hoti ohytos estai kathʼ hon tropon lelaletai moi.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me.

26
Phonetic (Greek): eis neson de tina dei hemas ekpesein.
Edified Edition (EDE)However, we must run aground on a certain island."

27
Phonetic (Greek): Ὡs de tessareskaidekate nyx egeneto diapheromenon hemon en tῷ Ἀdriᾳ, kata meson tes nyktos hypenooun ohi naytai prosagein tina aytois choran.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now when the fourteenth night had come, as we were driven up and down in the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors sensed that they were drawing near some land.

28
Phonetic (Greek): kai bolisantes ehyron orgyias eikosi, brachy de diastesantes kai palin bolisantes ehyron orgyias dekapente·
Edified Edition (EDE)And they took soundings and found it twenty fathoms; and when they had gone a little farther, they took soundings again and found it fifteen fathoms.

29
Phonetic (Greek): phoboymenoi te ⸂me pou kata⸃ tracheis topous ekpesomen ek prymnes ῥipsantes ankyras tessaras eychonto hemeran genesthai.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then, fearing lest we should run aground on the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern, and prayed for day to come.

30
Phonetic (Greek): ton de nauton zetoynton phygein ek toy ploiou kai chalasanton ten skaphen eis ten thalassan prophasei hos ek prῴres ⸂ankyras mellonton⸃ ekteinein,
Edified Edition (EDE)And as the sailors were seeking to escape from the ship, when they had let down the skiff into the sea, under pretence of putting out anchors from the prow,

31
Phonetic (Greek): eipen ho Paylos tῷ hekatontarchῃ kai tois stratiotais· Ἐan me ohytoi meinosin en tῷ ploiῳ, hymeis sothenai oy dynasthe.
Edified Edition (EDE)Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, "Unless these men stay in the ship, you cannot be saved."

32
Phonetic (Greek): tote ⸂apekopsan ohi stratiotai⸃ ta schoinia tes skaphes kai eiasan ayten ekpesein.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the soldiers cut the ropes of the skiff and let it fall off.

33
Phonetic (Greek): Ἄchri de ohy ⸂hemera emellen⸃ ginesthai parekalei ho Paylos hapantas metalabein trophes legon· Tessareskaidekaten semeron hemeran prosdokontes asitoi diateleite, methen proslabomenoi·
Edified Edition (EDE)And as day was about to dawn, Paul implored them all to take food, saying, "Today is the fourteenth day you have waited and continued without food, and eaten nothing.

34

Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore I urge you to take some food, for this is for your survival, since not a hair will fall from the head of any of you."

35
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀eipas de tayta kai labon arton eycharistesen tῷ theῷ enopion panton kai klasas erxato esthiein.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when he had said these things, he took bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of them all; and when he had broken it he began to eat.

37
Edified Edition (EDE)And in all we were two hundred and seventy-six persons on the ship.

38
Phonetic (Greek): koresthentes ⸀de trophes ekoyphizon to ploion ekballomenoi ton siton eis ten thalassan.
Edified Edition (EDE)So when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship and threw out the wheat into the sea.

39
Phonetic (Greek): Ὅte de hemera egeneto, ten gen oyk epeginoskon, kolpon de tina katenooun echonta aigialon eis hon ⸀ebouleyonto ei ⸀dynainto ⸀exosai to ploion.
Edified Edition (EDE)When it was day, they did not recognise the land; but they observed a bay with a beach, on which they planned to run the ship aground if possible.

40
Phonetic (Greek): kai tas ankyras perielontes eion eis ten thalassan, hama anentes tas zeukterias ton pedalion, kai eparantes ton artemona tῇ pneoysῃ kateichon eis ton aigialon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they let go the anchors and left them in the sea, meanwhile loosening the rudder ropes; and they hoisted the mainsail to the wind and made for shore.

41

Edified Edition (EDE)But striking a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the prow stuck fast and remained unmoveable, but the stern was being broken up by the violence of the waves.

42
Phonetic (Greek): ton de stratioton boule egeneto hina toys desmotas apokteinosin, me tis ekkolymbesas diaphygῃ·
Edified Edition (EDE)And the soldiers’ plan was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim away and escape.

Edified Edition (EDE)But the centurion, wanting to save Paul, kept them from their purpose, and commanded that those who could swim should jump overboard first and get to land,
