Edified Edition (EDE)But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession.

Ἀνὴρ δέ τις Ἁνανίας ὀνόματι σὺν Σαπφίρῃ τῇ γυναικὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπώλησεν κτῆμα

Phonetic (Greek): kai enosphisato apo tes times, syneidyies kai tes ⸀gynaikos, kai enenkas meros ti para toys podas ton apostolon etheken.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

καὶ ἐνοσφίσατο ἀπὸ τῆς τιμῆς, συνειδυίης καὶ τῆς ⸀γυναικός, καὶ ἐνέγκας μέρος τι παρὰ τοὺς πόδας τῶν ἀποστόλων ἔθηκεν.

Phonetic (Greek): eipen de ⸀ho Petros· Ἁnania, dia ti eplerosen ho Satanas ten kardian sou, pseysasthai se to pneyma to hagion kai ⸀nosphisasthai apo tes times toy choriou;
Edified Edition (EDE)But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?

εἶπεν δὲ ⸀ὁ Πέτρος· Ἁνανία, διὰ τί ἐπλήρωσεν ὁ Σατανᾶς τὴν καρδίαν σου, ψεύσασθαί σε τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον καὶ ⸀νοσφίσασθαι ἀπὸ τῆς τιμῆς τοῦ χωρίου;

Phonetic (Greek): oychi menon soi emenen kai prathen en tῇ sῇ exousiᾳ hyperchen; ti hoti ethou en tῇ kardiᾳ sou to pragma toyto; oyk epseyso anthropois alla tῷ theῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God."

οὐχὶ μένον σοὶ ἔμενεν καὶ πραθὲν ἐν τῇ σῇ ἐξουσίᾳ ὑπῆρχεν; τί ὅτι ἔθου ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου τὸ πρᾶγμα τοῦτο; οὐκ ἐψεύσω ἀνθρώποις ἀλλὰ τῷ θεῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): akoyon de ho Ἁnanias toys logous toytous peson exepsyxen· kai egeneto phobos megas epi pantas toys ⸀akoyontas.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things.

ἀκούων δὲ ὁ Ἁνανίας τοὺς λόγους τούτους πεσὼν ἐξέψυξεν· καὶ ἐγένετο φόβος μέγας ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς ⸀ἀκούοντας.

Phonetic (Greek): anastantes de ohi neoteroi synesteilan ayton kai exenenkantes ethapsan.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the young men arose and wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him.

ἀναστάντες δὲ οἱ νεώτεροι συνέστειλαν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐξενέγκαντες ἔθαψαν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἐgeneto de hos horon trion diastema kai he gyne aytoy me eidyia to gegonos eiselthen.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now it was about three hours later when his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.

Ἐγένετο δὲ ὡς ὡρῶν τριῶν διάστημα καὶ ἡ γυνὴ αὐτοῦ μὴ εἰδυῖα τὸ γεγονὸς εἰσῆλθεν.

Phonetic (Greek): apekrithe de ⸂pros ayten⸃ ⸀Petros· Eipe moi, ei tosoytou to chorion apedosthe; he de eipen· Nai, tosoytou.
Edified Edition (EDE)And Peter answered her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?" She said, "Yes, for so much."

ἀπεκρίθη δὲ ⸂πρὸς αὐτὴν⸃ ⸀Πέτρος· Εἰπέ μοι, εἰ τοσούτου τὸ χωρίον ἀπέδοσθε; ἡ δὲ εἶπεν· Ναί, τοσούτου.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de ⸀Petros pros ayten· Ti hoti synephonethe hymin peirasai to pneyma kyriou; idoy ohi podes ton thapsanton ton andra sou epi tῇ thyrᾳ kai exoisousin se.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out."

ὁ δὲ ⸀Πέτρος πρὸς αὐτήν· Τί ὅτι συνεφωνήθη ὑμῖν πειράσαι τὸ πνεῦμα κυρίου; ἰδοὺ οἱ πόδες τῶν θαψάντων τὸν ἄνδρα σου ἐπὶ τῇ θύρᾳ καὶ ἐξοίσουσίν σε.

Phonetic (Greek): epesen de parachrema ⸀pros toys podas aytoy kai exepsyxen· eiselthontes de ohi neaniskoi ehyron ayten nekran, kai exenenkantes ethapsan pros ton andra aytes.
Edified Edition (EDE)Immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her by her husband.

ἔπεσεν δὲ παραχρῆμα ⸀πρὸς τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξέψυξεν· εἰσελθόντες δὲ οἱ νεανίσκοι εὗρον αὐτὴν νεκράν, καὶ ἐξενέγκαντες ἔθαψαν πρὸς τὸν ἄνδρα αὐτῆς.

Phonetic (Greek): kai egeneto phobos megas ephʼ holen ten ekklesian kai epi pantas toys akoyontas tayta.
Edified Edition (EDE)So great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things.

καὶ ἐγένετο φόβος μέγας ἐφʼ ὅλην τὴν ἐκκλησίαν καὶ ἐπὶ πάντας τοὺς ἀκούοντας ταῦτα.

Phonetic (Greek): Dia de ton cheiron ton apostolon egineto semeia kai terata ⸂polla en tῷ laῷ⸃· kai esan homothymadon ⸀hapantes en tῇ Stoᾷ Solomontos·
Edified Edition (EDE)And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch.

Διὰ δὲ τῶν χειρῶν τῶν ἀποστόλων ἐγίνετο σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα ⸂πολλὰ ἐν τῷ λαῷ⸃· καὶ ἦσαν ὁμοθυμαδὸν ⸀ἅπαντες ἐν τῇ Στοᾷ Σολομῶντος·

Phonetic (Greek): ton de loipon oydeis etolma kollasthai aytois, allʼ emegalynen aytoys ho laos,
Edified Edition (EDE)Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly.

τῶν δὲ λοιπῶν οὐδεὶς ἐτόλμα κολλᾶσθαι αὐτοῖς, ἀλλʼ ἐμεγάλυνεν αὐτοὺς ὁ λαός,

Phonetic (Greek): mallon de prosetithento pisteyontes tῷ kyriῳ plethe andron te kai gynaikon·
Edified Edition (EDE)And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,

μᾶλλον δὲ προσετίθεντο πιστεύοντες τῷ κυρίῳ πλήθη ἀνδρῶν τε καὶ γυναικῶν·

Phonetic (Greek): hoste ⸂kai eis⸃ tas plateias ekpherein toys astheneis kai tithenai epi ⸀klinarion kai krabatton, hina erchomenou Petrou kan he skia ⸀episkiasῃ tini ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and mats, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them.

ὥστε ⸂καὶ εἰς⸃ τὰς πλατείας ἐκφέρειν τοὺς ἀσθενεῖς καὶ τιθέναι ἐπὶ ⸀κλιναρίων καὶ κραβάττων, ἵνα ἐρχομένου Πέτρου κἂν ἡ σκιὰ ⸀ἐπισκιάσῃ τινὶ αὐτῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): synercheto de kai to plethos ton perix ⸀poleon Ἰerousalem, pherontes astheneis kai ochloumenous hypo pneumaton akatharton, ohitines etherapeyonto hapantes.
Edified Edition (EDE)Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.

συνήρχετο δὲ καὶ τὸ πλῆθος τῶν πέριξ ⸀πόλεων Ἰερουσαλήμ, φέροντες ἀσθενεῖς καὶ ὀχλουμένους ὑπὸ πνευμάτων ἀκαθάρτων, οἵτινες ἐθεραπεύοντο ἅπαντες.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀnastas de ho archiereys kai pantes ohi syn aytῷ, he oysa ahiresis ton Saddoukaion, eplesthesan zelou
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with indignation,

Ἀναστὰς δὲ ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς καὶ πάντες οἱ σὺν αὐτῷ, ἡ οὖσα αἵρεσις τῶν Σαδδουκαίων, ἐπλήσθησαν ζήλου

Phonetic (Greek): kai epebalon tas ⸀cheiras epi toys apostolous kai ethento aytoys en teresei demosiᾳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)and laid their hands on the apostles and put them in the common prison.

καὶ ἐπέβαλον τὰς ⸀χεῖρας ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀποστόλους καὶ ἔθεντο αὐτοὺς ἐν τηρήσει δημοσίᾳ.

Phonetic (Greek): angelos de kyriou ⸀dia nyktos ⸀enoixe tas thyras tes phylakes exagagon te aytoys eipen·
Edified Edition (EDE)But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out, and said,

ἄγγελος δὲ κυρίου ⸀διὰ νυκτὸς ⸀ἤνοιξε τὰς θύρας τῆς φυλακῆς ἐξαγαγών τε αὐτοὺς εἶπεν·

Phonetic (Greek): Poreyesthe kai stathentes laleite en tῷ hierῷ tῷ laῷ panta ta ῥemata tes zoes taytes.
Edified Edition (EDE)"Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this life."

Πορεύεσθε καὶ σταθέντες λαλεῖτε ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ τῷ λαῷ πάντα τὰ ῥήματα τῆς ζωῆς ταύτης.

Phonetic (Greek): akoysantes de eiselthon hypo ton orthron eis to hieron kai edidaskon. Paragenomenos de ho archiereys kai ohi syn aytῷ synekalesan to synedrion kai pasan ten gerousian ton yhion Ἰsrael, kai apesteilan eis to desmoterion achthenai aytoys.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they heard that, they entered the temple early in the morning and taught. But the high priest and those with him came and called the council together, with all the elders of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

ἀκούσαντες δὲ εἰσῆλθον ὑπὸ τὸν ὄρθρον εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν καὶ ἐδίδασκον. Παραγενόμενος δὲ ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς καὶ οἱ σὺν αὐτῷ συνεκάλεσαν τὸ συνέδριον καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γερουσίαν τῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀπέστειλαν εἰς τὸ δεσμωτήριον ἀχθῆναι αὐτούς.

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de ⸂paragenomenoi hyperetai⸃ oych ehyron aytoys en tῇ phylakῇ, anastrepsantes de apengeilan
Edified Edition (EDE)But when the officers came and did not find them in the prison, they returned and reported,

οἱ δὲ ⸂παραγενόμενοι ὑπηρέται⸃ οὐχ εὗρον αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ, ἀναστρέψαντες δὲ ἀπήγγειλαν

Phonetic (Greek): legontes hoti ⸀To desmoterion ehyromen kekleismenon en pasῃ asphaleiᾳ kai toys phylakas hestotas ⸀epi ton thyron, anoixantes de eso oydena ehyromen.
Edified Edition (EDE)saying, "Indeed we found the prison shut securely, and the guards standing outside before the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside!"

λέγοντες ὅτι ⸀Τὸ δεσμωτήριον εὕρομεν κεκλεισμένον ἐν πάσῃ ἀσφαλείᾳ καὶ τοὺς φύλακας ἑστῶτας ⸀ἐπὶ τῶν θυρῶν, ἀνοίξαντες δὲ ἔσω οὐδένα εὕρομεν.

Phonetic (Greek): hos de ekousan toys logous toytous ho ⸀te strategos toy hieroy kai ohi archiereis, dieporoun peri ayton ti an genoito toyto.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now when the high priest, the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these things, they wondered what the outcome would be.

ὡς δὲ ἤκουσαν τοὺς λόγους τούτους ὅ ⸀τε στρατηγὸς τοῦ ἱεροῦ καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς, διηπόρουν περὶ αὐτῶν τί ἂν γένοιτο τοῦτο.

Phonetic (Greek): paragenomenos de tis apengeilen aytois hoti Ἰdoy ohi andres ohys ethesthe en tῇ phylakῇ eisin en tῷ hierῷ hestotes kai didaskontes ton laon.
Edified Edition (EDE)So one came and told them, saying, "Look, the men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!"

παραγενόμενος δέ τις ἀπήγγειλεν αὐτοῖς ὅτι Ἰδοὺ οἱ ἄνδρες οὓς ἔθεσθε ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ εἰσὶν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ ἑστῶτες καὶ διδάσκοντες τὸν λαόν.

Phonetic (Greek): tote apelthon ho strategos syn tois hyperetais ⸀egagen aytoys, oy meta bias, ephoboynto gar ton laon, ⸀me lithasthosin.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the captain went with the officers and brought them without violence, for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned.

τότε ἀπελθὼν ὁ στρατηγὸς σὺν τοῖς ὑπηρέταις ⸀ἤγαγεν αὐτούς, οὐ μετὰ βίας, ἐφοβοῦντο γὰρ τὸν λαόν, ⸀μὴ λιθασθῶσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀgagontes de aytoys estesan en tῷ synedriῳ. kai eperotesen aytoys ho archiereys
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them,

Ἀγαγόντες δὲ αὐτοὺς ἔστησαν ἐν τῷ συνεδρίῳ. καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτοὺς ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀legon· Parangeliᾳ parengeilamen hymin me didaskein epi tῷ onomati toytῳ, kai idoy peplerokate ten Ἰerousalem tes didaches hymon, kai boylesthe epagagein ephʼ hemas to ahima toy anthropou toytou.
Edified Edition (EDE)saying, "Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!"

⸀λέγων· Παραγγελίᾳ παρηγγείλαμεν ὑμῖν μὴ διδάσκειν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματι τούτῳ, καὶ ἰδοὺ πεπληρώκατε τὴν Ἰερουσαλὴμ τῆς διδαχῆς ὑμῶν, καὶ βούλεσθε ἐπαγαγεῖν ἐφʼ ἡμᾶς τὸ αἷμα τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τούτου.

Phonetic (Greek): apokritheis de Petros kai ohi apostoloi eipan· Peitharchein dei theῷ mallon e anthropois.
Edified Edition (EDE)But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: "We must obey God rather than men.

ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Πέτρος καὶ οἱ ἀπόστολοι εἶπαν· Πειθαρχεῖν δεῖ θεῷ μᾶλλον ἢ ἀνθρώποις.

Phonetic (Greek): ho theos ton pateron hemon egeiren Ἰesoyn, hon hymeis diecheirisasthe kremasantes epi xylou·
Edified Edition (EDE)The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree.

ὁ θεὸς τῶν πατέρων ἡμῶν ἤγειρεν Ἰησοῦν, ὃν ὑμεῖς διεχειρίσασθε κρεμάσαντες ἐπὶ ξύλου·

Phonetic (Greek): toyton ho theos archegon kai sotera hypsosen tῇ dexiᾷ aytoy, ⸀toy doynai metanoian tῷ Ἰsrael kai aphesin hamartion·
Edified Edition (EDE)Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

τοῦτον ὁ θεὸς ἀρχηγὸν καὶ σωτῆρα ὕψωσεν τῇ δεξιᾷ αὐτοῦ, ⸀τοῦ δοῦναι μετάνοιαν τῷ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἄφεσιν ἁμαρτιῶν·

Phonetic (Greek): kai hemeis ⸀esmen martyres ton ῥematon toyton, kai to ⸀pneyma to hagion ho edoken ho theos tois peitharchoysin aytῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)And we are His witnesses of these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him."

καὶ ἡμεῖς ⸀ἐσμεν μάρτυρες τῶν ῥημάτων τούτων, καὶ τὸ ⸀πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον ὃ ἔδωκεν ὁ θεὸς τοῖς πειθαρχοῦσιν αὐτῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): Ohi de ⸀akoysantes dieprionto kai eboylonto anelein aytoys.
Edified Edition (EDE)When they heard this, they were deeply cut to the heart and plotted to kill them.

Οἱ δὲ ⸀ἀκούσαντες διεπρίοντο καὶ ἐβούλοντο ἀνελεῖν αὐτούς.

Phonetic (Greek): anastas de tis en tῷ synedriῳ Pharisaios onomati Gamaliel, nomodidaskalos timios panti tῷ laῷ, ekeleusen exo ⸀brachy toys ⸀anthropous poiesai,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then one in the council stood up, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in respect by all the people, and commanded them to put the apostles outside for a little while.

ἀναστὰς δέ τις ἐν τῷ συνεδρίῳ Φαρισαῖος ὀνόματι Γαμαλιήλ, νομοδιδάσκαλος τίμιος παντὶ τῷ λαῷ, ἐκέλευσεν ἔξω ⸀βραχὺ τοὺς ⸀ἀνθρώπους ποιῆσαι,

Phonetic (Greek): eipen te pros aytoys· Ἄndres Ἰsraelitai, prosechete heautois epi tois anthropois toytois ti mellete prassein.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he said to them: "Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do regarding these men.

εἶπέν τε πρὸς αὐτούς· Ἄνδρες Ἰσραηλῖται, προσέχετε ἑαυτοῖς ἐπὶ τοῖς ἀνθρώποις τούτοις τί μέλλετε πράσσειν.

Phonetic (Greek): pro gar toyton ton hemeron aneste Theudas, legon einai tina heauton, ho ⸀proseklithe ⸂andron arithmos hos⸃ tetrakosion· hos anῃrethe, kai pantes hosoi epeithonto aytῷ dielythesan kai egenonto eis oyden.
Edified Edition (EDE)For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody. A number of men, about four hundred, joined him. He was slain, and all who obeyed him were scattered and came to nothing.

πρὸ γὰρ τούτων τῶν ἡμερῶν ἀνέστη Θευδᾶς, λέγων εἶναί τινα ἑαυτόν, ᾧ ⸀προσεκλίθη ⸂ἀνδρῶν ἀριθμὸς ὡς⸃ τετρακοσίων· ὃς ἀνῃρέθη, καὶ πάντες ὅσοι ἐπείθοντο αὐτῷ διελύθησαν καὶ ἐγένοντο εἰς οὐδέν.

Phonetic (Greek): meta toyton aneste Ἰoydas ho Galilaios en tais hemerais tes apographes kai apestese ⸀laon opiso aytoy· kakeinos apoleto kai pantes hosoi epeithonto aytῷ dieskorpisthesan.
Edified Edition (EDE)After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census, and drew away many people after him. He also perished, and all who obeyed him were dispersed.

μετὰ τοῦτον ἀνέστη Ἰούδας ὁ Γαλιλαῖος ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις τῆς ἀπογραφῆς καὶ ἀπέστησε ⸀λαὸν ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ· κἀκεῖνος ἀπώλετο καὶ πάντες ὅσοι ἐπείθοντο αὐτῷ διεσκορπίσθησαν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ta nyn lego hymin, apostete apo ton anthropon toyton kai ⸀aphete aytoys· (hoti ean e ex anthropon he boule ⸀ahyte e to ergon toyto, katalythesetai,
Edified Edition (EDE)And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing;

καὶ τὰ νῦν λέγω ὑμῖν, ἀπόστητε ἀπὸ τῶν ἀνθρώπων τούτων καὶ ⸀ἄφετε αὐτούς· (ὅτι ἐὰν ᾖ ἐξ ἀνθρώπων ἡ βουλὴ ⸀αὕτη ἢ τὸ ἔργον τοῦτο, καταλυθήσεται,

Phonetic (Greek): ei de ek theoy estin, oy ⸀dynesesthe katalysai ⸀aytoys·) mepote kai theomachoi ehyrethete. epeisthesan de aytῷ,
Edified Edition (EDE)but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it, lest you even be found to fight against God."

εἰ δὲ ἐκ θεοῦ ἐστιν, οὐ ⸀δυνήσεσθε καταλῦσαι ⸀αὐτούς·) μήποτε καὶ θεομάχοι εὑρεθῆτε. ἐπείσθησαν δὲ αὐτῷ,

Phonetic (Greek): kai proskalesamenoi toys apostolous deirantes parengeilan me lalein epi tῷ onomati toy Ἰesoy kai ⸀apelysan.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

οἱ μὲν οὖν ἐπορεύοντο χαίροντες ἀπὸ προσώπου τοῦ συνεδρίου ὅτι ⸂κατηξιώθησαν ὑπὲρ τοῦ ὀνόματος⸃ ἀτιμασθῆναι·
