Phonetic (Greek): Ἐn de tais hemerais taytais plethynonton ton matheton egeneto gongysmos ton Ἑlleniston pros toys Ἑbraious hoti paretheoroynto en tῇ diakoniᾳ tῇ kathemerinῇ ahi cherai ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution.

Ἐν δὲ ταῖς ἡμέραις ταύταις πληθυνόντων τῶν μαθητῶν ἐγένετο γογγυσμὸς τῶν Ἑλληνιστῶν πρὸς τοὺς Ἑβραίους ὅτι παρεθεωροῦντο ἐν τῇ διακονίᾳ τῇ καθημερινῇ αἱ χῆραι αὐτῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): proskalesamenoi de ohi dodeka to plethos ton matheton eipan· Oyk areston estin hemas kataleipsantas ton logon toy theoy diakonein trapezais·
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, "It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables.

προσκαλεσάμενοι δὲ οἱ δώδεκα τὸ πλῆθος τῶν μαθητῶν εἶπαν· Οὐκ ἀρεστόν ἐστιν ἡμᾶς καταλείψαντας τὸν λόγον τοῦ θεοῦ διακονεῖν τραπέζαις·

Phonetic (Greek): episkepsasthe ⸀de, adelphoi, andras ex hymon martyroumenous hepta plereis ⸀pneymatos kai sophias, ohys ⸀katastesomen epi tes chreias taytes·
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore, brothers, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business;

ἐπισκέψασθε ⸀δέ, ἀδελφοί, ἄνδρας ἐξ ὑμῶν μαρτυρουμένους ἑπτὰ πλήρεις ⸀πνεύματος καὶ σοφίας, οὓς ⸀καταστήσομεν ἐπὶ τῆς χρείας ταύτης·

Phonetic (Greek): hemeis de tῇ proseuchῇ kai tῇ diakoniᾳ toy logou proskarteresomen.
Edified Edition (EDE)but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word."

ἡμεῖς δὲ τῇ προσευχῇ καὶ τῇ διακονίᾳ τοῦ λόγου προσκαρτερήσομεν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai eresen ho logos enopion pantos toy plethous, kai exelexanto Stephanon, andra ⸀pleres pisteos kai pneymatos hagiou, kai Philippon kai Prochoron kai Nikanora kai Timona kai Parmenan kai Nikolaon proselyton Ἀntiochea,
Edified Edition (EDE)And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch,

καὶ ἤρεσεν ὁ λόγος ἐνώπιον παντὸς τοῦ πλήθους, καὶ ἐξελέξαντο Στέφανον, ἄνδρα ⸀πλήρης πίστεως καὶ πνεύματος ἁγίου, καὶ Φίλιππον καὶ Πρόχορον καὶ Νικάνορα καὶ Τίμωνα καὶ Παρμενᾶν καὶ Νικόλαον προσήλυτον Ἀντιοχέα,

Phonetic (Greek): ohys estesan enopion ton apostolon, kai proseuxamenoi epethekan aytois tas cheiras.
Edified Edition (EDE)whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid hands on them.

οὓς ἔστησαν ἐνώπιον τῶν ἀποστόλων, καὶ προσευξάμενοι ἐπέθηκαν αὐτοῖς τὰς χεῖρας.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai ho logos toy theoy eyxanen, kai eplethyneto ho arithmos ton matheton en Ἰerousalem sphodra, polys te ochlos ton hiereon hypekouon tῇ pistei.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Καὶ ὁ λόγος τοῦ θεοῦ ηὔξανεν, καὶ ἐπληθύνετο ὁ ἀριθμὸς τῶν μαθητῶν ἐν Ἰερουσαλὴμ σφόδρα, πολύς τε ὄχλος τῶν ἱερέων ὑπήκουον τῇ πίστει.

Phonetic (Greek): Stephanos de pleres ⸀charitos kai dynameos epoiei terata kai semeia megala en tῷ laῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.

Στέφανος δὲ πλήρης ⸀χάριτος καὶ δυνάμεως ἐποίει τέρατα καὶ σημεῖα μεγάλα ἐν τῷ λαῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): anestesan de tines ton ek tes synagoges tes legomenes Libertinon kai Kyrenaion kai Ἀlexandreon kai ton apo Kilikias kai Ἀsias syzetoyntes tῷ Stephanῳ,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then there arose some from what is called the Synagogue of the Freedmen (Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and those from Cilicia and Asia), disputing with Stephen.

ἀνέστησαν δέ τινες τῶν ἐκ τῆς συναγωγῆς τῆς λεγομένης Λιβερτίνων καὶ Κυρηναίων καὶ Ἀλεξανδρέων καὶ τῶν ἀπὸ Κιλικίας καὶ Ἀσίας συζητοῦντες τῷ Στεφάνῳ,

Phonetic (Greek): kai oyk ischyon antistenai tῇ sophiᾳ kai tῷ pneymati ho elalei.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.

καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυον ἀντιστῆναι τῇ σοφίᾳ καὶ τῷ πνεύματι ᾧ ἐλάλει.

Phonetic (Greek): tote hypebalon andras legontas hoti Ἀkekoamen aytoy laloyntos ῥemata blasphema eis Moysen kai ton theon·
Edified Edition (EDE)Then they secretly induced men to say, "We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God."

τότε ὑπέβαλον ἄνδρας λέγοντας ὅτι Ἀκηκόαμεν αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ῥήματα βλάσφημα εἰς Μωϋσῆν καὶ τὸν θεόν·

Phonetic (Greek): synekinesan te ton laon kai toys presbyterous kai toys grammateis, kai epistantes synerpasan ayton kai egagon eis to synedrion,
Edified Edition (EDE)And they stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes; and they came upon him, seized him, and brought him to the council.

συνεκίνησάν τε τὸν λαὸν καὶ τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους καὶ τοὺς γραμματεῖς, καὶ ἐπιστάντες συνήρπασαν αὐτὸν καὶ ἤγαγον εἰς τὸ συνέδριον,

Phonetic (Greek): estesan te martyras pseudeis legontas· Ὁ anthropos ohytos oy payetai ⸂lalon ῥemata⸃ kata toy topou toy ⸀hagiou kai toy nomou,
Edified Edition (EDE)They also set up false witnesses who said, "This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the law;

ἔστησάν τε μάρτυρας ψευδεῖς λέγοντας· Ὁ ἄνθρωπος οὗτος οὐ παύεται ⸂λαλῶν ῥήματα⸃ κατὰ τοῦ τόπου τοῦ ⸀ἁγίου καὶ τοῦ νόμου,

Phonetic (Greek): akekoamen gar aytoy legontos hoti Ἰesoys ho Nazoraios ohytos katalysei ton topon toyton kai allaxei ta ethe ha paredoken hemin Moyses.
Edified Edition (EDE)for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs which Moses delivered to us."

ἀκηκόαμεν γὰρ αὐτοῦ λέγοντος ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ὁ Ναζωραῖος οὗτος καταλύσει τὸν τόπον τοῦτον καὶ ἀλλάξει τὰ ἔθη ἃ παρέδωκεν ἡμῖν Μωϋσῆς.

Phonetic (Greek): kai atenisantes eis ayton ⸀pantes ohi kathezomenoi en tῷ synedriῳ eidon to prosopon aytoy hosei prosopon angelou.
Edified Edition (EDE)And all who sat in the council, looking steadfastly at him, saw his face as if it were the face of an angel.

καὶ ἀτενίσαντες εἰς αὐτὸν ⸀πάντες οἱ καθεζόμενοι ἐν τῷ συνεδρίῳ εἶδον τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ πρόσωπον ἀγγέλου.
