Ephesians

Chapter 5
1
Phonetic (Greek): ginesthe oyn mimetai toy theoy, hos tekna agapeta,
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.

2
Phonetic (Greek): kai peripateite en agapῃ, kathos kai ho Christos egapesen ⸀hemas kai paredoken heauton hyper ⸀hemon prosphoran kai thysian tῷ theῷ eis osmen eyodias.
Edified Edition (EDE)And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and gave Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Edified Edition (EDE)But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

Edified Edition (EDE)neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

5
Phonetic (Greek): toyto gar ⸀iste ginoskontes hoti pas pornos e akathartos e pleonektes, ⸀ho estin eidololatres, oyk echei kleronomian en tῇ basileiᾳ toy Christoy kai theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

6
Phonetic (Greek): Medeis hymas apatato kenois logois, dia tayta gar erchetai he orge toy theoy epi toys yhioys tes apeitheias.
Edified Edition (EDE)Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

7
Phonetic (Greek): me oyn ginesthe symmetochoi ayton·
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore do not be partakers with them.

8
Phonetic (Greek): ete gar pote skotos, nyn de phos en kyriῳ· hos tekna photos peripateite,
Edified Edition (EDE)For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light

9
Phonetic (Greek): ho gar karpos toy ⸀photos en pasῃ agathosynῃ kai dikaiosynῃ kai aletheiᾳ,
Edified Edition (EDE)(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),

10
Phonetic (Greek): dokimazontes ti estin eyareston tῷ kyriῳ·
Edified Edition (EDE)finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.

11
Phonetic (Greek): kai me synkoinoneite tois ergois tois akarpois toy skotous, mallon de kai elenchete,
Edified Edition (EDE)And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

12
Phonetic (Greek): ta gar kryphῇ ginomena hypʼ ayton aischron estin kai legein·
Edified Edition (EDE)For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.

13
Phonetic (Greek): ta de panta elenchomena hypo toy photos phaneroytai,
Edified Edition (EDE)But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.

14
Phonetic (Greek): pan gar to phaneroymenon phos estin. dio legei· Ἔgeire, ho katheydon, kai anasta ek ton nekron, kai epiphaysei soi ho Christos.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light."

15
Phonetic (Greek): Blepete oyn ⸂akribos pos⸃ peripateite, me hos asophoi allʼ hos sophoi,
Edified Edition (EDE)See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,

16
Phonetic (Greek): exagorazomenoi ton kairon, hoti ahi hemerai ponerai eisin.
Edified Edition (EDE)redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17
Phonetic (Greek): dia toyto me ginesthe aphrones, alla ⸀syniete ti to thelema toy kyriou·
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

18
Phonetic (Greek): kai me methyskesthe oinῳ, en ho estin asotia, alla pleroysthe en pneymati,
Edified Edition (EDE)And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,

19
Phonetic (Greek): laloyntes ⸀heautois psalmois kai hymnois kai odais pneumatikais, adontes kai ⸀psallontes tῇ kardiᾳ hymon tῷ kyriῳ,
Edified Edition (EDE)speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,

20
Phonetic (Greek): eycharistoyntes pantote hyper panton en onomati toy kyriou hemon Ἰesoy Christoy tῷ theῷ kai patri,
Edified Edition (EDE)giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

21
Phonetic (Greek): hypotassomenoi allelois en phobῳ Christoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)submitting to one another in the fear of God.

22
Phonetic (Greek): Ahi gynaikes tois idiois ⸀andrasin hos tῷ kyriῳ,
Edified Edition (EDE)Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

23
Phonetic (Greek): hoti aner estin kephale tes gynaikos hos kai ho Christos kephale tes ekklesias, ⸀aytos soter toy somatos.
Edified Edition (EDE)For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Saviour of the body.

24
Phonetic (Greek): alla ⸀hos he ekklesia hypotassetai tῷ Christῷ, ohytos kai ahi gynaikes ⸀tois andrasin en panti.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

25
Phonetic (Greek): Ohi andres, agapate tas ⸀gynaikas, kathos kai ho Christos egapesen ten ekklesian kai heauton paredoken hyper aytes,
Edified Edition (EDE)Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,

26
Phonetic (Greek): hina ayten hagiasῃ katharisas tῷ loutrῷ toy hydatos en ῥemati,
Edified Edition (EDE)that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,

27
Phonetic (Greek): hina parastesῃ ⸀aytos heautῷ endoxon ten ekklesian, me echousan spilon e ῥytida e ti ton toioyton, allʼ hina e hagia kai amomos.
Edified Edition (EDE)that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

28
Phonetic (Greek): ohytos opheilousin ⸀kai ohi andres agapan tas heauton gynaikas hos ta heauton somata· ho agapon ten heautoy gynaika heauton agapᾷ,
Edified Edition (EDE)So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.

29
Phonetic (Greek): oydeis gar pote ten heautoy sarka emisesen, alla ektrephei kai thalpei ayten, kathos kai ho ⸀Christos ten ekklesian,
Edified Edition (EDE)For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

30
Phonetic (Greek): hoti mele esmen toy somatos ⸀aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.

31
Phonetic (Greek): anti toytou kataleipsei anthropos ⸀ton ⸀patera kai ⸀ten metera kai proskollethesetai ⸂tῇ gynaiki⸃ aytoy, kai esontai ohi dyo eis sarka mian.
Edified Edition (EDE)"For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."

32
Phonetic (Greek): to mysterion toyto mega estin, ego de lego eis Christon kai eis ten ekklesian.
Edified Edition (EDE)This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

33
Phonetic (Greek): plen kai hymeis ohi kathʼ hena hekastos ten heautoy gynaika ohytos agapato hos heauton, he de gyne hina phobetai ton andra.
Edified Edition (EDE)Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
