Galatians

Chapter 3
1
Phonetic (Greek): Ὦ anoetoi Galatai, tis hymas ⸀ebaskanen, ohis katʼ ophthalmoys Ἰesoys Christos ⸀proegraphe estauromenos;
Edified Edition (EDE)O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?

Ὦ ἀνόητοι Γαλάται, τίς ὑμᾶς ⸀ἐβάσκανεν, οἷς κατʼ ὀφθαλμοὺς Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς ⸀προεγράφη ἐσταυρωμένος;

2
Phonetic (Greek): toyto monon thelo mathein aphʼ hymon, ex ergon nomou to pneyma elabete e ex akoes pisteos;
Edified Edition (EDE)This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

τοῦτο μόνον θέλω μαθεῖν ἀφʼ ὑμῶν, ἐξ ἔργων νόμου τὸ πνεῦμα ἐλάβετε ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως;

3
Phonetic (Greek): ohytos anoetoi este; enarxamenoi pneymati nyn sarki epiteleisthe;
Edified Edition (EDE)Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?

οὕτως ἀνόητοί ἐστε; ἐναρξάμενοι πνεύματι νῦν σαρκὶ ἐπιτελεῖσθε;

4
Phonetic (Greek): tosayta epathete eikῇ; ei ge kai eikῇ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Have you suffered so many things in vain, if indeed it was in vain?

5
Phonetic (Greek): ho oyn epichoregon hymin to pneyma kai energon dynameis en hymin ex ergon nomou e ex akoes pisteos;
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

ὁ οὖν ἐπιχορηγῶν ὑμῖν τὸ πνεῦμα καὶ ἐνεργῶν δυνάμεις ἐν ὑμῖν ἐξ ἔργων νόμου ἢ ἐξ ἀκοῆς πίστεως;

6
Phonetic (Greek): kathos Ἀbraam episteusen tῷ theῷ, kai elogisthe aytῷ eis dikaiosynen.
Edified Edition (EDE)just as Abraham "believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."

7
Phonetic (Greek): Ginoskete ara hoti ohi ek pisteos, ohytoi ⸂yhioi eisin⸃ Ἀbraam.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham.

8
Phonetic (Greek): proidoysa de he graphe hoti ek pisteos dikaioi ta ethne ho theos proeuengelisato tῷ Ἀbraam hoti Ἐneulogethesontai en soi panta ta ethne.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, "In you all the nations shall be blessed."

9
Phonetic (Greek): hoste ohi ek pisteos eylogoyntai syn tῷ pistῷ Ἀbraam.
Edified Edition (EDE)So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.

10
Phonetic (Greek): Ὅsoi gar ex ergon nomou eisin hypo kataran eisin, gegraptai gar ⸀hoti Ἐpikataratos pas hos oyk ⸀emmenei pasin tois gegrammenois en tῷ bibliῳ toy nomou toy poiesai ayta.
Edified Edition (EDE)For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them."

Edified Edition (EDE)But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "the just shall live by faith."

12
Phonetic (Greek): ho de nomos oyk estin ek pisteos, allʼ· Ὁ poiesas ⸀ayta zesetai en aytois.
Edified Edition (EDE)Yet the law is not of faith, but "the man who does them shall live by them."

13
Phonetic (Greek): Christos hemas exegorasen ek tes kataras toy nomou genomenos hyper hemon katara, ⸂hoti gegraptai⸃· Ἐpikataratos pas ho kremamenos epi xylou,
Edified Edition (EDE)Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"),

14
Phonetic (Greek): hina eis ta ethne he eylogia toy Ἀbraam genetai en ⸂Christῷ Ἰesoy⸃, hina ten epangelian toy pneymatos labomen dia tes pisteos.
Edified Edition (EDE)that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

15
Phonetic (Greek): Ἀdelphoi, kata anthropon lego· homos anthropou kekyromenen diatheken oydeis athetei e epidiatassetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)Brothers, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it.

16
Phonetic (Greek): tῷ de Ἀbraam errethesan ahi epangeliai kai tῷ spermati aytoy· oy legei· Kai tois spermasin, hos epi pollon, allʼ hos ephʼ henos· Kai tῷ spermati sou, hos estin Christos.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And to seeds," as of many, but as of one, "And to your Seed," who is Christ.

17
Phonetic (Greek): toyto de lego· diatheken prokekyromenen hypo toy ⸀theoy ho meta ⸂tetrakosia kai triakonta ete⸃ gegonos nomos oyk akyroi, eis to katargesai ten epangelian.
Edified Edition (EDE)And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect.

18
Phonetic (Greek): ei gar ek nomou he kleronomia, oyketi ex epangelias· tῷ de Ἀbraam diʼ epangelias kecharistai ho theos.
Edified Edition (EDE)For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

19
Phonetic (Greek): Ti oyn ho nomos; ton parabaseon charin prosetethe, achris ⸀ohy elthῃ to sperma ho epengeltai, diatageis diʼ angelon en cheiri mesitou·
Edified Edition (EDE)What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.

20
Phonetic (Greek): ho de mesites henos oyk estin, ho de theos ehis estin.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one.

21
Phonetic (Greek): Ὁ oyn nomos kata ton epangelion toy theoy; me genoito· ei gar edothe nomos ho dynamenos zῳopoiesai, ontos ⸂ek nomou an⸃ en he dikaiosyne.
Edified Edition (EDE)Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law.

22
Phonetic (Greek): alla synekleisen he graphe ta panta hypo hamartian hina he epangelia ek pisteos Ἰesoy Christoy dothῇ tois pisteyousin.
Edified Edition (EDE)But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

23
Phonetic (Greek): Pro toy de elthein ten pistin hypo nomon ephrouroymetha ⸀synkleiomenoi eis ten mellousan pistin apokalyphthenai.
Edified Edition (EDE)But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed.

24
Phonetic (Greek): hoste ho nomos paidagogos hemon gegonen eis Christon, hina ek pisteos dikaiothomen·
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

25
Phonetic (Greek): elthoyses de tes pisteos oyketi hypo paidagogon esmen.
Edified Edition (EDE)But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

Edified Edition (EDE)For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

27
Phonetic (Greek): hosoi gar eis Christon ebaptisthete, Christon enedysasthe·
Edified Edition (EDE)For as many of you as were baptised into Christ have put on Christ.

28
Phonetic (Greek): oyk eni Ἰoudaios oyde Ἕllen, oyk eni doylos oyde eleytheros, oyk eni arsen kai thely· ⸀pantes gar hymeis ehis este en Christῷ Ἰesoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

29
Phonetic (Greek): ei de hymeis Christoy, ara toy Ἀbraam sperma este, ⸀katʼ epangelian kleronomoi.
Edified Edition (EDE)And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
