Galatians

Chapter 4
1
Phonetic (Greek): Lego de, ephʼ hoson chronon ho kleronomos nepios estin, oyden diapherei doylou kyrios panton on,
Edified Edition (EDE)Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all,

2
Phonetic (Greek): alla hypo epitropous esti kai oikonomous achri tes prothesmias toy patros.
Edified Edition (EDE)but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father.

3
Phonetic (Greek): ohytos kai hemeis, hote emen nepioi, hypo ta stoicheia toy kosmou ⸀emetha dedoulomenoi·
Edified Edition (EDE)Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.

4
Phonetic (Greek): hote de elthen to pleroma toy chronou, exapesteilen ho theos ton yhion aytoy, genomenon ek gynaikos, genomenon hypo nomon,
Edified Edition (EDE)But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

5
Phonetic (Greek): hina toys hypo nomon exagorasῃ, hina ten yhiothesian apolabomen.
Edified Edition (EDE)to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

6
Phonetic (Greek): hoti de este yhioi, exapesteilen ho theos to pneyma toy yhioy aytoy eis tas kardias ⸀hemon, krazon· Abba ho pater.
Edified Edition (EDE)And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!"

7
Phonetic (Greek): hoste oyketi ei doylos alla yhios· ei de yhios, kai kleronomos ⸂dia theoy⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

8
Phonetic (Greek): Ἀlla tote men oyk eidotes theon edouleysate tois ⸂physei me⸃ oysi theois·
Edified Edition (EDE)But then, indeed, when you did not know God, you served those which by nature are not gods.

9
Phonetic (Greek): nyn de gnontes theon, mallon de gnosthentes hypo theoy, pos epistrephete palin epi ta asthene kai ptocha stoicheia, ohis palin anothen ⸀douleyein thelete;
Edified Edition (EDE)But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?

νῦν δὲ γνόντες θεόν, μᾶλλον δὲ γνωσθέντες ὑπὸ θεοῦ, πῶς ἐπιστρέφετε πάλιν ἐπὶ τὰ ἀσθενῆ καὶ πτωχὰ στοιχεῖα, οἷς πάλιν ἄνωθεν ⸀δουλεύειν θέλετε;

10
Phonetic (Greek): hemeras paratereisthe kai menas kai kairoys kai eniautoys.
Edified Edition (EDE)You observe days and months and seasons and years.

11
Phonetic (Greek): phoboymai hymas me pos eikῇ kekopiaka eis hymas.
Edified Edition (EDE)I am afraid for you, lest I have laboured for you in vain.

12
Phonetic (Greek): Ginesthe hos ego, hoti kago hos hymeis, adelphoi, deomai hymon. oyden me edikesate·
Edified Edition (EDE)Brothers, I urge you to become as I am, for I am as you are. You have not wronged me at all.

13
Phonetic (Greek): oidate de hoti diʼ astheneian tes sarkos eyengelisamen hymin to proteron,
Edified Edition (EDE)You know that because of physical infirmity I preached the gospel to you at first.

14
Phonetic (Greek): kai ton peirasmon ⸀hymon en tῇ sarki mou oyk exouthenesate oyde exeptysate, alla hos angelon theoy edexasthe me, hos Christon Ἰesoyn.
Edified Edition (EDE)And my trial which was in my flesh you did not despise or reject, but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

15
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀poy ⸀oyn ho makarismos hymon; martyro gar hymin hoti ei dynaton toys ophthalmoys hymon ⸀exoryxantes edokate moi.
Edified Edition (EDE)What then was the blessing you enjoyed? For I bear you witness that, if possible, you would have plucked out your own eyes and given them to me.

16
Phonetic (Greek): hoste echthros hymon gegona aletheyon hymin;
Edified Edition (EDE)Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?

ὥστε ἐχθρὸς ὑμῶν γέγονα ἀληθεύων ὑμῖν;

17
Phonetic (Greek): zeloysin hymas oy kalos, alla ekkleisai hymas thelousin, hina aytoys zeloyte.
Edified Edition (EDE)They zealously court you, but for no good; yes, they want to exclude you, that you may be zealous for them.

Edified Edition (EDE)But it is good to be zealous in a good thing always, and not only when I am present with you.

19
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀tekna mou, ohys palin odino ⸀mechris ohy morphothῇ Christos en hymin·
Edified Edition (EDE)My little children, for whom I labour in birth again until Christ is formed in you,

20
Phonetic (Greek): ethelon de pareinai pros hymas arti, kai allaxai ten phonen mou, hoti aporoymai en hymin.
Edified Edition (EDE)I would like to be present with you now and to change my tone; for I have doubts about you.

21
Phonetic (Greek): Legete moi, ohi hypo nomon thelontes einai, ton nomon oyk akoyete;
Edified Edition (EDE)Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not hear the law?

Λέγετέ μοι, οἱ ὑπὸ νόμον θέλοντες εἶναι, τὸν νόμον οὐκ ἀκούετε;

22
Phonetic (Greek): gegraptai gar hoti Ἀbraam dyo yhioys eschen, hena ek tes paidiskes kai hena ek tes eleutheras·
Edified Edition (EDE)For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman.

23
Phonetic (Greek): allʼ ho men ek tes paidiskes kata sarka gegennetai, ho de ek tes eleutheras ⸀diʼ epangelias.
Edified Edition (EDE)But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise,

24
Phonetic (Greek): hatina estin allegoroymena· ahytai gar eisin dyo diathekai, mia men apo orous Sina, eis douleian gennosa, hetis estin Ἁgar,
Edified Edition (EDE)which things are an allegory. For these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage, which is Hagar,

25
Phonetic (Greek): to ⸀de Ἁgar Sina oros estin en tῇ Ἀrabiᾳ, systoichei de tῇ nyn Ἰerousalem, douleyei ⸀gar meta ton teknon aytes·
Edified Edition (EDE)for this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children,

26
Phonetic (Greek): he de ano Ἰerousalem eleuthera estin, hetis estin ⸀meter hemon·
Edified Edition (EDE)but the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.

27
Phonetic (Greek): gegraptai gar· Eyphrantheti, steira he oy tiktousa, ῥexon kai boeson, he oyk odinousa· hoti polla ta tekna tes eremou mallon e tes echoyses ton andra.
Edified Edition (EDE)For it is written: "Rejoice, O barren, You who do not bear! Break forth and shout, You who are not in labour! For the desolate has many more children Than she who has a husband."

Edified Edition (EDE)Now we, brothers, as Isaac was, are children of promise.

29
Phonetic (Greek): allʼ hosper tote ho kata sarka gennetheis edioke ton kata pneyma, ohytos kai nyn.
Edified Edition (EDE)But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now.

30
Phonetic (Greek): alla ti legei he graphe; Ἔkbale ten paidisken kai ton yhion aytes, oy gar me ⸀kleronomesei ho yhios tes paidiskes meta toy yhioy tes eleutheras.
Edified Edition (EDE)Nevertheless what does the Scripture say? "Cast out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman."

31
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀dio, adelphoi, oyk esmen paidiskes tekna alla tes eleutheras.
Edified Edition (EDE)So then, brothers, we are not children of the bondwoman but of the free.
