Chapter 12
1
Phonetic (Greek): Toigaroyn kai hemeis, tosoyton echontes perikeimenon hemin nephos martyron, onkon apothemenoi panta kai ten eyperistaton hamartian, diʼ hypomones trechomen ton prokeimenon hemin agona,
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore seeing we also are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2
Phonetic (Greek): aphorontes eis ton tes pisteos archegon kai teleioten Ἰesoyn, hos anti tes prokeimenes aytῷ charas hypemeinen stauron aischynes kataphronesas, en dexiᾷ te toy thronou toy theoy kekathiken.
Edified Edition (EDE)Looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

3
Phonetic (Greek): Ἀnalogisasthe gar ton toiayten hypomemenekota hypo ton hamartolon eis ⸀heautoys antilogian, hina me kamete tais psychais hymon eklyomenoi.
Edified Edition (EDE)For consider Him who endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest you be weary and faint in your minds.

4
Phonetic (Greek): oypo mechris ahimatos antikatestete pros ten hamartian antagonizomenoi,
Edified Edition (EDE)You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin.

5
Phonetic (Greek): kai eklelesthe tes parakleseos, hetis hymin hos yhiois dialegetai, Yhie mou, me oligorei paideias kyriou, mede eklyou hypʼ aytoy elenchomenos·
Edified Edition (EDE)And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to children, "My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked by Him:"

6
Phonetic (Greek): hon gar agapᾷ kyrios paideyei, mastigoi de panta yhion hon paradechetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)For whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and scourges every son whom He receives.

7
Phonetic (Greek): eis paideian hypomenete· hos yhiois hymin prospheretai ho theos· tis ⸀gar yhios hon oy paideyei pater;
Edified Edition (EDE)If you endure discipline, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father disciplines not?

εἰς παιδείαν ὑπομένετε· ὡς υἱοῖς ὑμῖν προσφέρεται ὁ θεός· τίς ⸀γὰρ υἱὸς ὃν οὐ παιδεύει πατήρ;

8
Edified Edition (EDE)But if you be without discipline, of which all are partakers, then are you illegitimate, and not sons.

9
Phonetic (Greek): eita toys men tes sarkos hemon pateras eichomen paideutas kai enetrepometha· oy ⸀poly mallon hypotagesometha tῷ patri ton pneumaton kai zesomen;
Edified Edition (EDE)Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh who corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?

εἶτα τοὺς μὲν τῆς σαρκὸς ἡμῶν πατέρας εἴχομεν παιδευτὰς καὶ ἐνετρεπόμεθα· οὐ ⸀πολὺ μᾶλλον ὑποταγησόμεθα τῷ πατρὶ τῶν πνευμάτων καὶ ζήσομεν;

10
Phonetic (Greek): ohi men gar pros oligas hemeras kata to dokoyn aytois epaideuon, ho de epi to sympheron eis to metalabein tes hagiotetos aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)For they truly for a few days disciplined us after their own pleasure; but He for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness.

11
Phonetic (Greek): pasa ⸀de paideia pros men to paron oy dokei charas einai alla lypes, hysteron de karpon eirenikon tois diʼ aytes gegymnasmenois apodidosin dikaiosynes.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now no discipline for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it.

12
Phonetic (Greek): Dio tas pareimenas cheiras kai ta paralelymena gonata anorthosate,
Edified Edition (EDE)Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

13
Phonetic (Greek): kai trochias orthas ⸀poieite tois posin hymon, hina me to cholon ektrapῇ, iathῇ de mallon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.

14
Phonetic (Greek): Eirenen diokete meta panton, kai ton hagiasmon, ohy choris oydeis opsetai ton kyrion,
Edified Edition (EDE)Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one shall see the Lord:

15
Phonetic (Greek): episkopoyntes me tis hysteron apo tes charitos toy theoy, me tis ῥiza pikrias ano phyousa enochlῇ kai ⸂diʼ aytes⸃ mianthosin ⸀polloi,
Edified Edition (EDE)Looking diligently lest any person fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

16
Phonetic (Greek): me tis pornos e bebelos hos Ἠsay, hos anti broseos mias apedeto ta prototokia ⸀heautoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright.

17
Phonetic (Greek): iste gar hoti kai metepeita thelon kleronomesai ten eylogian apedokimasthe, metanoias gar topon oych ehyren, kaiper meta dakryon ekzetesas ayten.
Edified Edition (EDE)For you know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

18
Phonetic (Greek): Oy gar proselelythate ⸀pselaphomenῳ kai kekaumenῳ pyri kai gnophῳ kai ⸀zophῳ kai thyellῃ
Edified Edition (EDE)For you are not come to the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor to blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

19
Phonetic (Greek): kai salpingos echῳ kai phonῇ ῥematon, hes ohi akoysantes parῃtesanto ⸀me prostethenai aytois logon·
Edified Edition (EDE)And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice those who heard pleaded that the word should not be spoken to them any more:

20
Phonetic (Greek): oyk epheron gar to diastellomenon· Kan therion thigῃ toy orous, lithobolethesetai·
Edified Edition (EDE)(For they could not endure that which was commanded, "And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:")

21
Phonetic (Greek): kai, ohyto phoberon en to phantazomenon, Moyses eipen· Ἔkphobos eimi kai entromos.
Edified Edition (EDE)And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, "I exceedingly fear and quake.")

22
Phonetic (Greek): alla proselelythate Sion orei kai polei theoy zontos, Ἰerousalem epouraniῳ, kai myriasin angelon, panegyrei
Edified Edition (EDE)But you are come to mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

23
Phonetic (Greek): kai ekklesiᾳ prototokon ⸂apogegrammenon en oyranois⸃, kai kritῇ theῷ panton, kai pneymasi dikaion teteleiomenon,
Edified Edition (EDE)To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just people made perfect,

24
Phonetic (Greek): kai diathekes neas mesitῃ Ἰesoy, kai ahimati ῥantismoy kreitton laloynti para ton Ἅbel.
Edified Edition (EDE)And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaks better things than that of Abel.

25
Phonetic (Greek): Blepete me paraitesesthe ton laloynta· ei gar ekeinoi oyk ⸀exephygon ⸂epi ges paraitesamenoi ton⸃ chrematizonta, ⸀poly mallon hemeis ohi ton apʼ oyranon apostrephomenoi·
Edified Edition (EDE)See that you refuse not Him who speaks. For if they escaped not who refused Him that spoke on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven:

26
Phonetic (Greek): ohy he phone ten gen esaleusen tote, nyn de epengeltai legon· Ἔti hapax ego ⸀seiso oy monon ten gen alla kai ton oyranon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Whose voice then shook the earth: but now He has promised, saying, "Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven."

27
Phonetic (Greek): to de Ἔti hapax deloi ⸂ton saleuomenon⸃ metathesin hos pepoiemenon, hina meinῃ ta me saleuomena.
Edified Edition (EDE)And this word, "Yet once more," signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

28
Phonetic (Greek): dio basileian asaleuton paralambanontes echomen charin, diʼ hes ⸀latreyomen eyarestos tῷ theῷ meta ⸂eylabeias kai deous⸃,
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

29
Phonetic (Greek): kai gar ho theos hemon pyr katanaliskon.
Edified Edition (EDE)For our God is a consuming fire.
