Chapter 5
1
Phonetic (Greek): Pas gar archiereys ex anthropon lambanomenos hyper anthropon kathistatai ta pros ton theon, hina prospherῃ dora te kai thysias hyper hamartion,
Edified Edition (EDE)For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:

Πᾶς γὰρ ἀρχιερεὺς ἐξ ἀνθρώπων λαμβανόμενος ὑπὲρ ἀνθρώπων καθίσταται τὰ πρὸς τὸν θεόν, ἵνα προσφέρῃ δῶρά τε καὶ θυσίας ὑπὲρ ἁμαρτιῶν,

Phonetic (Greek): metriopathein dynamenos tois agnooysi kai planomenois epei kai aytos perikeitai astheneian,
Edified Edition (EDE)Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on those who are out of the way; for that he himself also is surrounded with weakness.

μετριοπαθεῖν δυνάμενος τοῖς ἀγνοοῦσι καὶ πλανωμένοις ἐπεὶ καὶ αὐτὸς περίκειται ἀσθένειαν,

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸂diʼ ayten⸃ opheilei, kathos peri toy laoy, ohytos kai peri ⸀ahytoy prospherein ⸀peri hamartion.
Edified Edition (EDE)And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.

καὶ ⸂διʼ αὐτὴν⸃ ὀφείλει, καθὼς περὶ τοῦ λαοῦ, οὕτως καὶ περὶ ⸀αὑτοῦ προσφέρειν ⸀περὶ ἁμαρτιῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai oych heautῷ tis lambanei ten timen, alla kaloymenos hypo toy theoy, ⸀kathosper kai Ἀaron.
Edified Edition (EDE)And no one takes this honour to himself, but he who is called of God, as was Aaron.

καὶ οὐχ ἑαυτῷ τις λαμβάνει τὴν τιμήν, ἀλλὰ καλούμενος ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ, ⸀καθώσπερ καὶ Ἀαρών.

Phonetic (Greek): Ohytos kai ho Christos oych heauton edoxasen genethenai archierea, allʼ ho lalesas pros ayton· Yhios mou ei sy, ego semeron gegenneka se·
Edified Edition (EDE)So also Christ glorified not Himself to be made an high priest; but He who said to Him, "You are My Son, today I have begotten You."

Οὕτως καὶ ὁ Χριστὸς οὐχ ἑαυτὸν ἐδόξασεν γενηθῆναι ἀρχιερέα, ἀλλʼ ὁ λαλήσας πρὸς αὐτόν· Υἱός μου εἶ σύ, ἐγὼ σήμερον γεγέννηκά σε·

Phonetic (Greek): kathos kai en heterῳ legei· Sy hiereys eis ton aiona kata ten taxin Melchisedek,
Edified Edition (EDE)As He says also in another place, "You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek."

καθὼς καὶ ἐν ἑτέρῳ λέγει· Σὺ ἱερεὺς εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα κατὰ τὴν τάξιν Μελχισέδεκ,

Phonetic (Greek): hos en tais hemerais tes sarkos aytoy deeseis te kai hiketerias pros ton dynamenon sῴzein ayton ek thanatou meta krauges ischyras kai dakryon prosenenkas kai eisakoustheis apo tes eylabeias,
Edified Edition (EDE)Who in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard in that He feared;

ὃς ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις τῆς σαρκὸς αὐτοῦ δεήσεις τε καὶ ἱκετηρίας πρὸς τὸν δυνάμενον σῴζειν αὐτὸν ἐκ θανάτου μετὰ κραυγῆς ἰσχυρᾶς καὶ δακρύων προσενέγκας καὶ εἰσακουσθεὶς ἀπὸ τῆς εὐλαβείας,

Phonetic (Greek): kaiper on yhios, emathen aphʼ hon epathen ten hypakoen,
Edified Edition (EDE)Though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered;

καίπερ ὢν υἱός, ἔμαθεν ἀφʼ ὧν ἔπαθεν τὴν ὑπακοήν,

Phonetic (Greek): kai teleiotheis egeneto ⸂pasin tois hypakoyousin aytῷ⸃ aitios soterias aioniou,
Edified Edition (EDE)And being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation to all those who obey Him;

καὶ τελειωθεὶς ἐγένετο ⸂πᾶσιν τοῖς ὑπακούουσιν αὐτῷ⸃ αἴτιος σωτηρίας αἰωνίου,

Phonetic (Greek): prosagoreutheis hypo toy theoy archiereys kata ten taxin Melchisedek.
Edified Edition (EDE)Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchizedek.

προσαγορευθεὶς ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ ἀρχιερεὺς κατὰ τὴν τάξιν Μελχισέδεκ.

Phonetic (Greek): Peri ohy polys hemin ho logos kai dysermeneutos legein, epei nothroi gegonate tais akoais·
Edified Edition (EDE)Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing you are dull of hearing.

Περὶ οὗ πολὺς ἡμῖν ὁ λόγος καὶ δυσερμήνευτος λέγειν, ἐπεὶ νωθροὶ γεγόνατε ταῖς ἀκοαῖς·

Phonetic (Greek): kai gar opheilontes einai didaskaloi dia ton chronon, palin chreian echete toy didaskein hymas ⸀tina ta stoicheia tes arches ton logion toy theoy, kai gegonate chreian echontes galaktos, ⸀oy stereas trophes.
Edified Edition (EDE)For when for the time you ought to be teachers, you have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

καὶ γὰρ ὀφείλοντες εἶναι διδάσκαλοι διὰ τὸν χρόνον, πάλιν χρείαν ἔχετε τοῦ διδάσκειν ὑμᾶς ⸀τινὰ τὰ στοιχεῖα τῆς ἀρχῆς τῶν λογίων τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ γεγόνατε χρείαν ἔχοντες γάλακτος, ⸀οὐ στερεᾶς τροφῆς.

Phonetic (Greek): pas gar ho metechon galaktos apeiros logou dikaiosynes, nepios gar estin·
Edified Edition (EDE)For every one who uses milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

πᾶς γὰρ ὁ μετέχων γάλακτος ἄπειρος λόγου δικαιοσύνης, νήπιος γάρ ἐστιν·

Phonetic (Greek): teleion de estin he sterea trophe, ton dia ten hexin ta aistheteria gegymnasmena echonton pros diakrisin kaloy te kai kakoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)But strong meat belongs to those who are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

τελείων δέ ἐστιν ἡ στερεὰ τροφή, τῶν διὰ τὴν ἕξιν τὰ αἰσθητήρια γεγυμνασμένα ἐχόντων πρὸς διάκρισιν καλοῦ τε καὶ κακοῦ.
