Chapter 7
1
Phonetic (Greek): Ohytos gar ho Melchisedek, basileys Salem, hiereys toy theoy toy hypsistou, ⸀ho synantesas Ἀbraam hypostrephonti apo tes kopes ton basileon kai eylogesas ayton,
Edified Edition (EDE)For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him;

2
Phonetic (Greek): ho kai dekaten apo panton emerisen Ἀbraam, proton men hermeneuomenos basileys dikaiosynes epeita de kai basileys Salem, ho estin basileys eirenes,
Edified Edition (EDE)To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

3
Phonetic (Greek): apator, ametor, agenealogetos, mete archen hemeron mete zoes telos echon, aphomoiomenos de tῷ yhiῷ toy theoy, menei hiereys eis to dienekes.
Edified Edition (EDE)Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like the Son of God; remains a priest continually.

4
Phonetic (Greek): Theoreite de pelikos ohytos ⸀ho dekaten Ἀbraam edoken ek ton akrothinion ho patriarches.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

5
Phonetic (Greek): kai ohi men ek ton yhion Leui ten hierateian lambanontes entolen echousin apodekatoyn ton laon kata ton nomon, toytʼ estin toys adelphoys ayton, kaiper exelelythotas ek tes osphyos Ἀbraam·
Edified Edition (EDE)And truly those who are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brothers, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

6
Phonetic (Greek): ho de me genealogoymenos ex ayton dedekatoken ⸀Ἀbraam, kai ton echonta tas epangelias eylogeken.
Edified Edition (EDE)But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham and blessed him who had the promises.

7
Phonetic (Greek): choris de pases antilogias to elatton hypo toy kreittonos eylogeitai.
Edified Edition (EDE)And without all contradiction the less is blessed by the better.

8
Phonetic (Greek): kai hode men dekatas apothnῄskontes anthropoi lambanousin, ekei de martyroymenos hoti zῇ.
Edified Edition (EDE)And here people that die receive tithes; but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives.

9
Phonetic (Greek): kai hos epos eipein, diʼ Ἀbraam kai Leui ho dekatas lambanon dedekatotai,
Edified Edition (EDE)And as I may so say, Levi also, who receives tithes, paid tithes in Abraham.

10
Phonetic (Greek): eti gar en tῇ osphyi toy patros en hote synentesen aytῷ ⸀Melchisedek.
Edified Edition (EDE)For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchizedek met him.

11
Phonetic (Greek): Ei men oyn teleiosis dia tes Leyitikes hierosynes en, ho laos gar epʼ ⸀aytes ⸀nenomothetetai, tis eti chreia kata ten taxin Melchisedek heteron anistasthai hierea kai oy kata ten taxin Ἀaron legesthai;
Edified Edition (EDE)If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

Εἰ μὲν οὖν τελείωσις διὰ τῆς Λευιτικῆς ἱερωσύνης ἦν, ὁ λαὸς γὰρ ἐπʼ ⸀αὐτῆς ⸀νενομοθέτηται, τίς ἔτι χρεία κατὰ τὴν τάξιν Μελχισέδεκ ἕτερον ἀνίστασθαι ἱερέα καὶ οὐ κατὰ τὴν τάξιν Ἀαρὼν λέγεσθαι;

12
Phonetic (Greek): metatithemenes gar tes hierosynes ex anankes kai nomou metathesis ginetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

13
Phonetic (Greek): ephʼ hon gar legetai tayta phyles heteras metescheken, aphʼ hes oydeis prosescheken tῷ thysiasteriῳ·
Edified Edition (EDE)For He of whom these things are spoken pertains to another tribe, of which no one gave attendance at the altar.

14
Phonetic (Greek): prodelon gar hoti ex Ἰoyda anatetalken ho kyrios hemon, eis hen phylen ⸂peri hiereon oyden⸃ Moyses elalesen.
Edified Edition (EDE)For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Judah; of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

15
Phonetic (Greek): Kai perissoteron eti katadelon estin, ei kata ten homoioteta Melchisedek anistatai hiereys heteros,
Edified Edition (EDE)And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchizedek there arises another priest,

16
Phonetic (Greek): hos oy kata nomon entoles ⸀sarkines gegonen alla kata dynamin zoes akatalytou,
Edified Edition (EDE)Who is made, not after the law of a fleshly commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

17
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀martyreitai gar hoti Sy hiereys eis ton aiona kata ten taxin Melchisedek.
Edified Edition (EDE)For He testifies, "You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek."

18
Phonetic (Greek): athetesis men gar ginetai proagoyses entoles dia to aytes asthenes kai anopheles,
Edified Edition (EDE)For there is truly a setting aside of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.

19
Phonetic (Greek): oyden gar eteleiosen ho nomos, epeisagoge de kreittonos elpidos, diʼ hes engizomen tῷ theῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by which we draw near to God.

20
Phonetic (Greek): Kai kathʼ hoson oy choris horkomosias (ohi men gar choris horkomosias eisin hiereis gegonotes,
Edified Edition (EDE)And inasmuch as not without an oath He was made priest:

21
Phonetic (Greek): ho de meta horkomosias dia toy legontos pros ayton· Ὤmosen kyrios, kai oy metamelethesetai, Sy hiereys eis ton ⸀aiona),
Edified Edition (EDE)(For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by Him who said to Him, "The Lord sware and will not repent, You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek"):

22
Phonetic (Greek): kata ⸀tosoyto ⸀kreittonos diathekes gegonen engyos Ἰesoys.
Edified Edition (EDE)By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

23
Phonetic (Greek): Kai ohi men pleiones eisin gegonotes hiereis dia to thanatῳ kolyesthai paramenein·
Edified Edition (EDE)And they truly were many priests, because they were not allowed to continue by reason of death:

24
Phonetic (Greek): ho de dia to menein ayton eis ton aiona aparabaton echei ten hierosynen·
Edified Edition (EDE)But this man, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood.

25
Phonetic (Greek): hothen kai sῴzein eis to panteles dynatai toys proserchomenous diʼ aytoy tῷ theῷ, pantote zon eis to entynchanein hyper ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost who come to God by Him, seeing He ever lives to make intercession for them.

26
Phonetic (Greek): Toioytos gar hemin ⸀kai eprepen archiereys, hosios, akakos, amiantos, kechorismenos apo ton hamartolon, kai hypseloteros ton oyranon genomenos·
Edified Edition (EDE)For such an high priest was appropriate for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

27
Phonetic (Greek): hos oyk echei kathʼ hemeran ananken, hosper ohi archiereis, proteron hyper ton idion hamartion thysias anapherein, epeita ton toy laoy (toyto gar epoiesen ephapax heauton anenenkas)·
Edified Edition (EDE)Who needs not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this He did once, when He offered up Himself.

28
Phonetic (Greek): ho nomos gar anthropous kathistesin archiereis echontas astheneian, ho logos de tes horkomosias tes meta ton nomon yhion, eis ton aiona teteleiomenon.
Edified Edition (EDE)For the law makes people high priests who have weakness; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, makes the Son, who is consecrated forevermore.
