James

Chapter 3
1
Phonetic (Greek): Me polloi didaskaloi ginesthe, adelphoi mou, eidotes hoti meizon krima lempsometha·
Edified Edition (EDE)My brothers, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

2
Phonetic (Greek): polla gar ptaiomen hapantes. ei tis en logῳ oy ptaiei, ohytos teleios aner, dynatos chalinagogesai kai holon to soma.
Edified Edition (EDE)For in many things we all stumble. If any person does not stumble in word, the same is a perfect person, and able also to bridle the whole body.

3
Phonetic (Greek): ⸂ei de⸃ ton hippon toys chalinoys eis ta stomata ballomen ⸀eis to peithesthai aytoys hemin, kai holon to soma ayton metagomen.
Edified Edition (EDE)Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

4
Phonetic (Greek): idoy kai ta ploia, telikayta onta kai hypo ⸂anemon skleron⸃ elaunomena, metagetai hypo elachistou pedaliou hopou ⸂he horme toy eythynontos boyletai⸃·
Edified Edition (EDE)Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven by fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, wherever the pilot desires.

5
Phonetic (Greek): ohytos kai he glossa mikron melos estin kai ⸂megala aychei⸃. Ἰdoy ⸀helikon pyr heliken hylen anaptei·
Edified Edition (EDE)Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindles!

6
Phonetic (Greek): kai he glossa pyr, ho kosmos tes ⸀adikias he glossa kathistatai en tois melesin hemon, he spiloysa holon to soma kai phlogizousa ton trochon tes geneseos kai phlogizomene hypo tes geennes.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

7
Phonetic (Greek): pasa gar physis therion te kai peteinon herpeton te kai enalion damazetai kai dedamastai tῇ physei tῇ anthropinῃ·
Edified Edition (EDE)For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind:

8
Phonetic (Greek): ten de glossan oydeis ⸂damasai dynatai anthropon⸃· ⸀akatastaton kakon, meste ioy thanatephorou.
Edified Edition (EDE)But the tongue can no one tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9
Phonetic (Greek): en aytῇ eylogoymen ton ⸀kyrion kai patera, kai en aytῇ katarometha toys anthropous toys kathʼ homoiosin theoy gegonotas·
Edified Edition (EDE)With it we bless God, even the Father; and with it we curse people, who are made after the similitude of God.

10
Phonetic (Greek): ek toy aytoy stomatos exerchetai eylogia kai katara. oy chre, adelphoi mou, tayta ohytos ginesthai.
Edified Edition (EDE)Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not so to be.

11
Phonetic (Greek): meti he pege ek tes aytes opes bryei to glyky kai to pikron;
Edified Edition (EDE)Does a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

μήτι ἡ πηγὴ ἐκ τῆς αὐτῆς ὀπῆς βρύει τὸ γλυκὺ καὶ τὸ πικρόν;

12
Phonetic (Greek): me dynatai, adelphoi mou, syke elaias poiesai e ampelos syka; ⸂oyte halykon⸃ glyky poiesai hydor.
Edified Edition (EDE)Can the fig tree, my brothers, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

13
Phonetic (Greek): Tis sophos kai epistemon en hymin; deixato ek tes kales anastrophes ta erga aytoy en prayteti sophias.
Edified Edition (EDE)Who is a wise person and endued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good conduct his works with gentleness of wisdom.

14
Phonetic (Greek): ei de zelon pikron echete kai eritheian en tῇ kardiᾳ hymon, me katakauchasthe kai pseydesthe kata tes aletheias.
Edified Edition (EDE)But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

15
Phonetic (Greek): oyk estin ahyte he sophia anothen katerchomene, alla epigeios, psychike, daimoniodes·
Edified Edition (EDE)This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.

16
Phonetic (Greek): hopou gar zelos kai eritheia, ekei akatastasia kai pan phaylon pragma.
Edified Edition (EDE)For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

17
Phonetic (Greek): he de anothen sophia proton men hagne estin, epeita eirenike, epieikes, eypeithes, meste eleous kai karpon agathon, ⸀adiakritos, anypokritos·
Edified Edition (EDE)But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

Edified Edition (EDE)And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
