Chapter 5
1
Phonetic (Greek): Ἄge nyn ohi ploysioi, klaysate ololyzontes epi tais talaiporiais hymon tais eperchomenais.
Edified Edition (EDE)Go to now, you rich people, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

2
Phonetic (Greek): ho ploytos hymon sesepen, kai ta himatia hymon setobrota gegonen,
Edified Edition (EDE)Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

3
Phonetic (Greek): ho chrysos hymon kai ho argyros katiotai, kai ho ios ayton eis martyrion hymin estai kai phagetai tas sarkas hymon· hos pyr ethesaurisate en eschatais hemerais.
Edified Edition (EDE)Your gold and silver is rusted; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days.

4
Phonetic (Greek): idoy ho misthos ton ergaton ton amesanton tas choras hymon ho ⸀aphysteremenos aphʼ hymon krazei, kai ahi boai ton therisanton eis ta ota Kyriou Sabaoth ⸀eiselelythasin·
Edified Edition (EDE)Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, cries: and the cries of those who have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

5
Phonetic (Greek): etryphesate epi tes ges kai espatalesate, ethrepsate tas kardias ⸀hymon en hemerᾳ sphages.
Edified Edition (EDE)You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; you have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

6
Phonetic (Greek): katedikasate, ephoneysate ton dikaion. oyk antitassetai hymin;
Edified Edition (EDE)You have condemned and killed the just; and he does not resist you.

κατεδικάσατε, ἐφονεύσατε τὸν δίκαιον. οὐκ ἀντιτάσσεται ὑμῖν;

7
Phonetic (Greek): Makrothymesate oyn, adelphoi, heos tes parousias toy kyriou. idoy ho georgos ekdechetai ton timion karpon tes ges, makrothymon epʼ ⸀aytῷ heos ⸀labῃ proimon kai opsimon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, and has long patience for it, until he receives the early and latter rain.

8
Phonetic (Greek): makrothymesate kai hymeis, sterixate tas kardias hymon, hoti he parousia toy kyriou engiken.
Edified Edition (EDE)Be you also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draws near.

9
Phonetic (Greek): me stenazete, ⸂adelphoi, katʼ allelon⸃, hina me krithete· idoy ho krites pro ton thyron hesteken.
Edified Edition (EDE)Grudge not one against another, brothers, lest you be condemned: behold, the judge stands before the door.

10
Phonetic (Greek): hypodeigma labete, ⸀adelphoi, tes kakopathias kai tes makrothymias toys prophetas, ohi elalesan ⸀en tῷ onomati kyriou.
Edified Edition (EDE)Take, my brothers, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

11
Phonetic (Greek): idoy makarizomen toys ⸀hypomeinantas· ten hypomonen Ἰob ekoysate, kai to telos kyriou ⸀eidete, hoti polysplanchnos estin ⸂ho kyrios⸃ kai oiktirmon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Behold, we count them happy who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

12
Phonetic (Greek): Pro panton de, adelphoi mou, me omnyete, mete ton oyranon mete ten gen mete allon tina horkon· eto de hymon to Nai nai kai to Oy oy, hina me ⸂hypo krisin⸃ pesete.
Edified Edition (EDE)But above all things, my brothers, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your "yes" be yes; and your "no," no; lest you fall into condemnation.

13
Phonetic (Greek): Kakopathei tis en hymin; proseuchestho· eythymei tis; psalleto.
Edified Edition (EDE)Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any cheerful? let him sing psalms.

14
Phonetic (Greek): asthenei tis en hymin; proskalesastho toys presbyterous tes ekklesias, kai proseuxasthosan epʼ ayton aleipsantes ⸀ayton elaiῳ en tῷ onomati toy kyriou·
Edified Edition (EDE)Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

15
Phonetic (Greek): kai he eyche tes pisteos sosei ton kamnonta, kai egerei ayton ho kyrios· kan hamartias e pepoiekos, aphethesetai aytῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

16
Phonetic (Greek): exomologeisthe ⸀oyn allelois ⸂tas hamartias⸃ kai ⸀eychesthe hyper allelon, hopos iathete. poly ischyei deesis dikaiou energoumene.
Edified Edition (EDE)Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much.

17
Phonetic (Greek): Ἠlias anthropos en homoiopathes hemin, kai proseuchῇ proseyxato toy me brexai, kai oyk ebrexen epi tes ges eniautoys treis kai menas hex·
Edified Edition (EDE)Elijah was a person subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months.

18
Phonetic (Greek): kai palin proseyxato, kai ho oyranos ⸂hyeton edoken⸃ kai he ge eblastesen ton karpon aytes.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

19
Phonetic (Greek): Ἀdelphoi ⸀mou, ean tis en hymin planethῇ apo tes aletheias kai epistrepsῃ tis ayton,
Edified Edition (EDE)Brothers, if any of you do err from the truth, and one converts him;

20
Phonetic (Greek): ⸀ginosketo hoti ho epistrepsas hamartolon ek planes hodoy aytoy sosei psychen ⸀aytoy ek thanatou kai kalypsei plethos hamartion.
Edified Edition (EDE)Let him know, that he who converts the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
