1
Phonetic (Greek): Ἦn de tis asthenon, Lazaros apo Bethanias ek tes komes Marias kai Marthas tes adelphes aytes.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, from the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

2
Phonetic (Greek): en de ⸀Mariam he aleipsasa ton kyrion myrῳ kai ekmaxasa toys podas aytoy tais thrixin aytes, hes ho adelphos Lazaros esthenei.
Edified Edition (EDE)It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.

3
Phonetic (Greek): apesteilan oyn ahi adelphai pros ayton legousai· Kyrie, ide hon phileis asthenei.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore the sisters sent to Him, saying, "Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick."

4
Phonetic (Greek): akoysas de ho Ἰesoys eipen· Ahyte he astheneia oyk estin pros thanaton allʼ hyper tes doxes toy theoy hina doxasthῇ ho yhios toy theoy diʼ aytes.
Edified Edition (EDE)When Jesus heard that, He said, [JESUS]"This sickness is not leading to death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it."[/JESUS]

5
Phonetic (Greek): egapa de ho Ἰesoys ten Marthan kai ten adelphen aytes kai ton Lazaron.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

6
Phonetic (Greek): hos oyn ekousen hoti asthenei, tote men emeinen en ho en topῳ dyo hemeras·
Edified Edition (EDE)So, when He heard that he was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was.

7
Phonetic (Greek): epeita meta toyto legei tois mathetais· Ἄgomen eis ten Ἰoudaian palin.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then after this He said to the disciples, [JESUS]"Let us go to Judea again."[/JESUS]

λέγουσιν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταί· Ῥαββί, νῦν ἐζήτουν σε λιθάσαι οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι, καὶ πάλιν ὑπάγεις ἐκεῖ;

9
Phonetic (Greek): apekrithe Ἰesoys· Oychi dodeka ⸂horai eisin⸃ tes hemeras; ean tis peripatῇ en tῇ hemerᾳ, oy proskoptei, hoti to phos toy kosmou toytou blepei·

13
Phonetic (Greek): eirekei de ho Ἰesoys peri toy thanatou aytoy. ekeinoi de edoxan hoti peri tes koimeseos toy hypnou legei.
Edified Edition (EDE)However, Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that He was speaking about taking rest in sleep.
