Chapter 5
1
Phonetic (Greek): Meta tayta ⸀en heorte ton Ἰoudaion, kai ⸀anebe Ἰesoys eis Ἱerosolyma.
Edified Edition (EDE)After this, there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2
Phonetic (Greek): estin de en tois Ἱerosolymois epi tῇ probatikῇ kolymbethra he epilegomene Ἑbraisti ⸀Bethesda, pente stoas echousa·
Edified Edition (EDE)Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porches.

3
Phonetic (Greek): en taytais katekeito ⸀plethos ton asthenoynton, typhlon, cholon, ⸀xeron.
Edified Edition (EDE)In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, and paralysed. [1]

Edified Edition (EDE)Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years.

6
Phonetic (Greek): toyton idon ho Ἰesoys katakeimenon, kai gnoys hoti polyn ede chronon echei, legei aytῷ· Theleis hygies genesthai;
Edified Edition (EDE)When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been in that condition a long time, He said to him, [JESUS]"Do you want to be made well?"[/JESUS]

τοῦτον ἰδὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς κατακείμενον, καὶ γνοὺς ὅτι πολὺν ἤδη χρόνον ἔχει, λέγει αὐτῷ· Θέλεις ὑγιὴς γενέσθαι;

7
Phonetic (Greek): apekrithe aytῷ ho asthenon· Kyrie, anthropon oyk echo hina hotan tarachthῇ to hydor balῃ me eis ten kolymbethran· en ho de erchomai ego allos pro emoy katabainei.
Edified Edition (EDE)The sick man answered Him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me."

8
Phonetic (Greek): legei aytῷ ho Ἰesoys· ⸀Ἔgeire aron ton krabatton sou kai peripatei.
Edified Edition (EDE)Jesus said to him, [JESUS]"Rise, take up your mat and walk."[/JESUS]

9
Phonetic (Greek): kai eytheos egeneto hygies ho anthropos kai ere ton krabatton aytoy kai periepatei. Ἦn de sabbaton en ekeinῃ tῇ hemerᾳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)And immediately the man was made well, took up his mat, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath.

10
Phonetic (Greek): elegon oyn ohi Ἰoudaioi tῷ tetherapeumenῳ· Sabbaton estin, ⸀kai oyk exestin soi arai ton ⸀krabatton.
Edified Edition (EDE)The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, "It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your mat."

11
Phonetic (Greek): ⸂hos de⸃ apekrithe aytois· Ὁ poiesas me hygie ekeinos moi eipen Ἆron ton krabatton sou kai peripatei.
Edified Edition (EDE)He answered them, "He who made me well said to me, 'Take up your mat and walk.'"

12
Phonetic (Greek): erotesan ⸀oyn ayton· Tis estin ho anthropos ho eipon soi· ⸀Ἆron kai peripatei;
Edified Edition (EDE)Then they asked him, "Who is the Man who said to you, 'Take up your mat and walk'?"

ἠρώτησαν ⸀οὖν αὐτόν· Τίς ἐστιν ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὁ εἰπών σοι· ⸀Ἆρον καὶ περιπάτει;

13
Phonetic (Greek): ho de iatheis oyk edei tis estin, ho gar Ἰesoys exeneusen ochlou ontos en tῷ topῳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)But the one who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a multitude being in that place.

14
Phonetic (Greek): meta tayta ehyriskei ayton ho Ἰesoys en tῷ hierῷ kai eipen aytῷ· Ἴde hygies gegonas· meketi hamartane, hina me cheiron ⸂soi ti⸃ genetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, [JESUS]"See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you."[/JESUS]

15
Phonetic (Greek): apelthen ho anthropos kai ⸀anengeilen tois Ἰoudaiois hoti Ἰesoys estin ho poiesas ayton hygie.
Edified Edition (EDE)The man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

16
Phonetic (Greek): kai dia toyto ediokon ⸂ohi Ἰoudaioi ton Ἰesoyn⸃ hoti tayta epoiei en sabbatῳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, because He had done these things on the Sabbath.

17
Phonetic (Greek): ho ⸀de apekrinato aytois· Ὁ pater mou heos arti ergazetai kago ergazomai.
Edified Edition (EDE)But Jesus answered them, [JESUS]"My Father is working until now, and I am working."[/JESUS]

18
Phonetic (Greek): dia toyto oyn mallon ezetoun ayton ohi Ἰoudaioi apokteinai hoti oy monon elye to sabbaton, alla kai patera idion elege ton theon, ison heauton poion tῷ theῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

19
Phonetic (Greek): Ἀpekrinato oyn ho Ἰesoys kai ⸀elegen aytois· Ἀmen amen lego hymin, oy dynatai ho yhios poiein aphʼ heautoy oyden ⸀ean me ti blepῃ ton patera poioynta· ha gar an ekeinos poiῇ, tayta kai ho yhios homoios poiei.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus answered and said to them, [JESUS]"Most certainly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner."[/JESUS]

20
Phonetic (Greek): ho gar pater philei ton yhion kai panta deiknysin aytῷ ha aytos poiei, kai meizona toyton deixei aytῷ erga, hina hymeis thaumazete.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, so that you may marvel."[/JESUS]

21
Phonetic (Greek): hosper gar ho pater egeirei toys nekroys kai zῳopoiei, ohytos kai ho yhios ohys thelei zῳopoiei.

22
Phonetic (Greek): oyde gar ho pater krinei oydena, alla ten krisin pasan dedoken tῷ yhiῷ,
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgement to the Son,"[/JESUS]

23
Phonetic (Greek): hina pantes timosi ton yhion kathos timosi ton patera. ho me timon ton yhion oy timᾷ ton patera ton pempsanta ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"that all should honour the Son just as they honour the Father. He who does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who sent Him."[/JESUS]

24
Phonetic (Greek): Ἀmen amen lego hymin hoti ho ton logon mou akoyon kai pisteyon tῷ pempsanti me echei zoen aionion, kai eis krisin oyk erchetai alla metabebeken ek toy thanatou eis ten zoen.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Most certainly, I tell you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgement, but has passed from death into life."[/JESUS]

26
Phonetic (Greek): hosper gar ho pater echei zoen en heautῷ, ohytos ⸂kai tῷ yhiῷ edoken⸃ zoen echein en heautῷ·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself,"[/JESUS]

27

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"and has given Him authority to execute judgement also, because He is the Son of Man."[/JESUS]
