Chapter 7

Phonetic (Greek): Kai ⸂meta tayta periepatei ho Ἰesoys⸃ en tῇ Galilaiᾳ, oy gar ethelen en tῇ Ἰoudaiᾳ peripatein, hoti ezetoun ayton ohi Ἰoudaioi apokteinai.
Edified Edition (EDE)After these things, Jesus walked in Galilee; for He did not want to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill Him.

Καὶ ⸂μετὰ ταῦτα περιεπάτει ὁ Ἰησοῦς⸃ ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ, οὐ γὰρ ἤθελεν ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ περιπατεῖν, ὅτι ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι ἀποκτεῖναι.

Edified Edition (EDE)Now the Jews’ Feast of Tabernacles was at hand.

ἦν δὲ ἐγγὺς ἡ ἑορτὴ τῶν Ἰουδαίων ἡ σκηνοπηγία.

Phonetic (Greek): eipon oyn pros ayton ohi adelphoi aytoy· Metabethi enteythen kai hypage eis ten Ἰoudaian, hina kai ohi mathetai sou ⸀theoresousin ⸂soy ta erga⸃ ha poieis·
Edified Edition (EDE)His brothers therefore said to Him, "Depart from here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples also may see the works that You do."

εἶπον οὖν πρὸς αὐτὸν οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ· Μετάβηθι ἐντεῦθεν καὶ ὕπαγε εἰς τὴν Ἰουδαίαν, ἵνα καὶ οἱ μαθηταί σου ⸀θεωρήσουσιν ⸂σοῦ τὰ ἔργα⸃ ἃ ποιεῖς·

Phonetic (Greek): oydeis gar ⸂ti en kryptῷ⸃ poiei kai zetei aytos en parresiᾳ einai· ei tayta poieis, phaneroson seauton tῷ kosmῳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)"For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world."

οὐδεὶς γάρ ⸂τι ἐν κρυπτῷ⸃ ποιεῖ καὶ ζητεῖ αὐτὸς ἐν παρρησίᾳ εἶναι· εἰ ταῦτα ποιεῖς, φανέρωσον σεαυτὸν τῷ κόσμῳ.

Phonetic (Greek): oyde gar ohi adelphoi aytoy episteuon eis ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)For even His brothers did not believe in Him.

οὐδὲ γὰρ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπίστευον εἰς αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): legei oyn aytois ho Ἰesoys· Ὁ kairos ho emos oypo parestin, ho de kairos ho hymeteros pantote estin hetoimos.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus said to them, [JESUS]"My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready."[/JESUS]

λέγει οὖν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ὁ καιρὸς ὁ ἐμὸς οὔπω πάρεστιν, ὁ δὲ καιρὸς ὁ ὑμέτερος πάντοτέ ἐστιν ἕτοιμος.

Phonetic (Greek): oy dynatai ho kosmos misein hymas, eme de misei, hoti ego martyro peri aytoy hoti ta erga aytoy ponera estin.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil."[/JESUS]

οὐ δύναται ὁ κόσμος μισεῖν ὑμᾶς, ἐμὲ δὲ μισεῖ, ὅτι ἐγὼ μαρτυρῶ περὶ αὐτοῦ ὅτι τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ πονηρά ἐστιν.

Phonetic (Greek): hymeis anabete eis ten ⸀heorten· ego ⸀oyk anabaino eis ten heorten tayten, hoti ho ⸂emos kairos⸃ oypo peplerotai.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"You go up to this feast. I am not going up to this feast, for My time has not yet fully come."[/JESUS]

ὑμεῖς ἀνάβητε εἰς τὴν ⸀ἑορτήν· ἐγὼ ⸀οὐκ ἀναβαίνω εἰς τὴν ἑορτὴν ταύτην, ὅτι ὁ ⸂ἐμὸς καιρὸς⸃ οὔπω πεπλήρωται.

Phonetic (Greek): tayta ⸀de eipon ⸀aytos emeinen en tῇ Galilaiᾳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)When He had said these things to them, He remained in Galilee.

ταῦτα ⸀δὲ εἰπὼν ⸀αὐτὸς ἔμεινεν ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ.

Phonetic (Greek): Ὡs de anebesan ohi adelphoi aytoy ⸂eis ten heorten, tote kai aytos anebe⸃, oy phaneros alla hos en kryptῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)But when His brothers had gone up, then He also went up to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

Ὡς δὲ ἀνέβησαν οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ ⸂εἰς τὴν ἑορτήν, τότε καὶ αὐτὸς ἀνέβη⸃, οὐ φανερῶς ἀλλὰ ὡς ἐν κρυπτῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): ohi oyn Ἰoudaioi ezetoun ayton en tῇ heortῇ kai elegon· Poy estin ekeinos;
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the Jews sought Him at the feast, and said, "Where is He?"

οἱ οὖν Ἰουδαῖοι ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ ἑορτῇ καὶ ἔλεγον· Ποῦ ἐστιν ἐκεῖνος;

Phonetic (Greek): kai gongysmos ⸂peri aytoy en polys⸃ en tois ochlois· ohi men elegon hoti Ἀgathos estin, alloi ⸀de elegon· Oy, alla planᾷ ton ochlon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And there was much grumbling among the people concerning Him. Some said, "He is a good man"; others said, "No, on the contrary, He deceives the people."

καὶ γογγυσμὸς ⸂περὶ αὐτοῦ ἦν πολὺς⸃ ἐν τοῖς ὄχλοις· οἱ μὲν ἔλεγον ὅτι Ἀγαθός ἐστιν, ἄλλοι ⸀δὲ ἔλεγον· Οὔ, ἀλλὰ πλανᾷ τὸν ὄχλον.

Phonetic (Greek): oydeis mentoi parresiᾳ elalei peri aytoy dia ton phobon ton Ἰoudaion.
Edified Edition (EDE)However, no one spoke openly of Him for fear of the Jews.

οὐδεὶς μέντοι παρρησίᾳ ἐλάλει περὶ αὐτοῦ διὰ τὸν φόβον τῶν Ἰουδαίων.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἤde de tes heortes mesoyses ⸀anebe Ἰesoys eis to hieron kai edidasken.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught.

Ἤδη δὲ τῆς ἑορτῆς μεσούσης ⸀ἀνέβη Ἰησοῦς εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν καὶ ἐδίδασκεν.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂ethaymazon oyn⸃ ohi Ἰoudaioi legontes· Pos ohytos grammata oiden me memathekos;
Edified Edition (EDE)And the Jews marvelled, saying, "How does this Man know letters, having never studied?"

⸂ἐθαύμαζον οὖν⸃ οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι λέγοντες· Πῶς οὗτος γράμματα οἶδεν μὴ μεμαθηκώς;

Phonetic (Greek): apekrithe oyn aytois ⸀ho Ἰesoys kai eipen· Ἡ eme didache oyk estin eme alla toy pempsantos me·
Edified Edition (EDE)Jesus answered them and said, [JESUS]"My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me."[/JESUS]

ἀπεκρίθη οὖν αὐτοῖς ⸀ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν· Ἡ ἐμὴ διδαχὴ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐμὴ ἀλλὰ τοῦ πέμψαντός με·

Phonetic (Greek): ean tis thelῃ to thelema aytoy poiein, gnosetai peri tes didaches poteron ek toy theoy estin e ego apʼ emautoy lalo.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"If anyone desires to do His will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority."[/JESUS]

ἐάν τις θέλῃ τὸ θέλημα αὐτοῦ ποιεῖν, γνώσεται περὶ τῆς διδαχῆς πότερον ἐκ τοῦ θεοῦ ἐστιν ἢ ἐγὼ ἀπʼ ἐμαυτοῦ λαλῶ.

Phonetic (Greek): ho aphʼ heautoy lalon ten doxan ten idian zetei· ho de zeton ten doxan toy pempsantos ayton ohytos alethes estin kai adikia en aytῷ oyk estin.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him."[/JESUS]

ὁ ἀφʼ ἑαυτοῦ λαλῶν τὴν δόξαν τὴν ἰδίαν ζητεῖ· ὁ δὲ ζητῶν τὴν δόξαν τοῦ πέμψαντος αὐτὸν οὗτος ἀληθής ἐστιν καὶ ἀδικία ἐν αὐτῷ οὐκ ἔστιν.

Phonetic (Greek): Oy Moyses ⸀dedoken hymin ton nomon; kai oydeis ex hymon poiei ton nomon. ti me zeteite apokteinai;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill Me?"[/JESUS]

Οὐ Μωϋσῆς ⸀δέδωκεν ὑμῖν τὸν νόμον; καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐξ ὑμῶν ποιεῖ τὸν νόμον. τί με ζητεῖτε ἀποκτεῖναι;

Phonetic (Greek): apekrithe ho ⸀ochlos· Daimonion echeis· tis se zetei apokteinai;
Edified Edition (EDE)The people answered and said, "You have a demon! Who is seeking to kill You?"

ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ⸀ὄχλος· Δαιμόνιον ἔχεις· τίς σε ζητεῖ ἀποκτεῖναι;

Phonetic (Greek): apekrithe Ἰesoys kai eipen aytois· Ἓn ergon epoiesa kai pantes thaumazete.
Edified Edition (EDE)Jesus answered and said to them, [JESUS]"I did one work, and you all marvel."[/JESUS]

ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ἓν ἔργον ἐποίησα καὶ πάντες θαυμάζετε.

Phonetic (Greek): dia toyto Moyses dedoken hymin ten peritomen— oych hoti ek toy Moyseos estin allʼ ek ton pateron— kai en sabbatῳ peritemnete anthropon.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath."[/JESUS]

διὰ τοῦτο Μωϋσῆς δέδωκεν ὑμῖν τὴν περιτομήν— οὐχ ὅτι ἐκ τοῦ Μωϋσέως ἐστὶν ἀλλʼ ἐκ τῶν πατέρων— καὶ ἐν σαββάτῳ περιτέμνετε ἄνθρωπον.

Phonetic (Greek): ei peritomen ⸀lambanei anthropos en sabbatῳ hina me lythῇ ho nomos Moyseos, emoi cholate hoti holon anthropon hygie epoiesa en sabbatῳ;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath?"[/JESUS]

εἰ περιτομὴν ⸀λαμβάνει ἄνθρωπος ἐν σαββάτῳ ἵνα μὴ λυθῇ ὁ νόμος Μωϋσέως, ἐμοὶ χολᾶτε ὅτι ὅλον ἄνθρωπον ὑγιῆ ἐποίησα ἐν σαββάτῳ;

Phonetic (Greek): me krinete katʼ opsin, alla ten dikaian krisin ⸀krinete.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgement."[/JESUS]

μὴ κρίνετε κατʼ ὄψιν, ἀλλὰ τὴν δικαίαν κρίσιν ⸀κρίνετε.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἔlegon oyn tines ek ton Ἱerosolymiton· Oych ohytos estin hon zetoysin apokteinai;
Edified Edition (EDE)Then some of those from Jerusalem said, "Is not this He whom they seek to kill?"

Ἔλεγον οὖν τινες ἐκ τῶν Ἱεροσολυμιτῶν· Οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὃν ζητοῦσιν ἀποκτεῖναι;

Phonetic (Greek): kai ide parresiᾳ lalei kai oyden aytῷ legousin· mepote alethos egnosan ohi archontes hoti ohytos ⸀estin ho christos;
Edified Edition (EDE)"But look! He speaks openly, and they say nothing to Him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is truly the Christ?"

καὶ ἴδε παρρησίᾳ λαλεῖ καὶ οὐδὲν αὐτῷ λέγουσιν· μήποτε ἀληθῶς ἔγνωσαν οἱ ἄρχοντες ὅτι οὗτός ⸀ἐστιν ὁ χριστός;

Phonetic (Greek): alla toyton oidamen pothen estin· ho de christos hotan erchetai oydeis ginoskei pothen estin.
Edified Edition (EDE)"However, we know where this Man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one knows where He is from."

ἀλλὰ τοῦτον οἴδαμεν πόθεν ἐστίν· ὁ δὲ χριστὸς ὅταν ἔρχηται οὐδεὶς γινώσκει πόθεν ἐστίν.

Phonetic (Greek): ekraxen oyn en tῷ hierῷ didaskon ho Ἰesoys kai legon· Kame oidate kai oidate pothen eimi· kai apʼ emautoy oyk elelytha, allʼ estin alethinos ho pempsas me, hon hymeis oyk oidate·
Edified Edition (EDE)Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, you both know me, and you know Where I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom you know not.

ἔκραξεν οὖν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ διδάσκων ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ λέγων· Κἀμὲ οἴδατε καὶ οἴδατε πόθεν εἰμί· καὶ ἀπʼ ἐμαυτοῦ οὐκ ἐλήλυθα, ἀλλʼ ἔστιν ἀληθινὸς ὁ πέμψας με, ὃν ὑμεῖς οὐκ οἴδατε·

Phonetic (Greek): ego oida ayton, hoti parʼ aytoy eimi kakeinos me apesteilen.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But I know Him, for I am from Him, and He sent Me."[/JESUS]

ἐγὼ οἶδα αὐτόν, ὅτι παρʼ αὐτοῦ εἰμι κἀκεῖνός με ἀπέστειλεν.

Phonetic (Greek): ezetoun oyn ayton piasai, kai oydeis epebalen epʼ ayton ten cheira, hoti oypo elelythei he hora aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore they sought to take Him; but no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.

ἐζήτουν οὖν αὐτὸν πιάσαι, καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐπέβαλεν ἐπʼ αὐτὸν τὴν χεῖρα, ὅτι οὔπω ἐληλύθει ἡ ὥρα αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂ek toy ochlou de polloi⸃ episteusan eis ayton, kai ⸀elegon· Ὁ christos hotan elthῃ ⸀me pleiona ⸀semeia poiesei hon ohytos epoiesen;
Edified Edition (EDE)And many of the people believed in Him, and said, "When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than these which this Man has done?"

⸂ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου δὲ πολλοὶ⸃ ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτόν, καὶ ⸀ἔλεγον· Ὁ χριστὸς ὅταν ἔλθῃ ⸀μὴ πλείονα ⸀σημεῖα ποιήσει ὧν οὗτος ἐποίησεν;

Phonetic (Greek): Ἤkousan ohi Pharisaioi toy ochlou gongyzontos peri aytoy tayta, kai apesteilan ⸂ohi archiereis kai ohi Pharisaioi hyperetas⸃ hina piasosin ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)The Pharisees heard the crowd grumbling these things concerning Him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take Him.

Ἤκουσαν οἱ Φαρισαῖοι τοῦ ὄχλου γογγύζοντος περὶ αὐτοῦ ταῦτα, καὶ ἀπέστειλαν ⸂οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι ὑπηρέτας⸃ ἵνα πιάσωσιν αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): eipen oyn ho Ἰesoys· Ἔti ⸂chronon mikron⸃ methʼ hymon eimi kai hypago pros ton pempsanta me.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus said to them, [JESUS]"I shall be with you a little while longer, and then I go to Him who sent Me."[/JESUS]

εἶπεν οὖν ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἔτι ⸂χρόνον μικρὸν⸃ μεθʼ ὑμῶν εἰμι καὶ ὑπάγω πρὸς τὸν πέμψαντά με.

Phonetic (Greek): zetesete me kai oych ⸀ehyresete, kai hopou eimi ego hymeis oy dynasthe elthein.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come."[/JESUS]

ζητήσετέ με καὶ οὐχ ⸀εὑρήσετε, καὶ ὅπου εἰμὶ ἐγὼ ὑμεῖς οὐ δύνασθε ἐλθεῖν.

Phonetic (Greek): eipon oyn ohi Ἰoudaioi pros heautoys· Poy ohytos mellei poreyesthai hoti hemeis oych ehyresomen ayton; me eis ten diasporan ton Ἑllenon mellei poreyesthai kai didaskein toys Ἕllenas;
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the Jews said among themselves, "Where does He intend to go that we shall not find Him? Does He intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?"

εἶπον οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι πρὸς ἑαυτούς· Ποῦ οὗτος μέλλει πορεύεσθαι ὅτι ἡμεῖς οὐχ εὑρήσομεν αὐτόν; μὴ εἰς τὴν διασπορὰν τῶν Ἑλλήνων μέλλει πορεύεσθαι καὶ διδάσκειν τοὺς Ἕλληνας;

Phonetic (Greek): tis estin ⸂ho logos ohytos⸃ hon eipe· Zetesete me kai oych ⸀ehyresete, kai hopou eimi ego hymeis oy dynasthe elthein;
Edified Edition (EDE)"What is this saying that He said, 'You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come'?"

τίς ἐστιν ⸂ὁ λόγος οὗτος⸃ ὃν εἶπε· Ζητήσετέ με καὶ οὐχ ⸀εὑρήσετε, καὶ ὅπου εἰμὶ ἐγὼ ὑμεῖς οὐ δύνασθε ἐλθεῖν;

Phonetic (Greek): Ἐn de tῇ eschatῃ hemerᾳ tῇ megalῃ tes heortes ehistekei ho Ἰesoys, kai ekraxen legon· Ἐan tis dipsᾷ erchestho pros me kai pineto.
Edified Edition (EDE)On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, [JESUS]"If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink."[/JESUS]

Ἐν δὲ τῇ ἐσχάτῃ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ μεγάλῃ τῆς ἑορτῆς εἱστήκει ὁ Ἰησοῦς, καὶ ἔκραξεν λέγων· Ἐάν τις διψᾷ ἐρχέσθω πρός με καὶ πινέτω.

Phonetic (Greek): ho pisteyon eis eme, kathos eipen he graphe, potamoi ek tes koilias aytoy ῥeysousin hydatos zontos.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."[/JESUS]

ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμέ, καθὼς εἶπεν ἡ γραφή, ποταμοὶ ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας αὐτοῦ ῥεύσουσιν ὕδατος ζῶντος.

Phonetic (Greek): toyto de eipen peri toy pneymatos ⸀ohy emellon lambanein ohi ⸀pisteysantes eis ayton· oypo gar en ⸀pneyma, hoti Ἰesoys ⸀oydepo edoxasthe.
Edified Edition (EDE)But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

τοῦτο δὲ εἶπεν περὶ τοῦ πνεύματος ⸀οὗ ἔμελλον λαμβάνειν οἱ ⸀πιστεύσαντες εἰς αὐτόν· οὔπω γὰρ ἦν ⸀πνεῦμα, ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ⸀οὐδέπω ἐδοξάσθη.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂Ἐk toy ochlou oyn⸃ akoysantes ⸂ton logon toyton⸃ ⸀elegon· Ohytos estin alethos ho prophetes·
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, "Truly this is the Prophet."

⸂Ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου οὖν⸃ ἀκούσαντες ⸂τῶν λόγων τούτων⸃ ⸀ἔλεγον· Οὗτός ἐστιν ἀληθῶς ὁ προφήτης·

Phonetic (Greek): alloi elegon· Ohytos estin ho christos· ⸂ohi de⸃ elegon· Me gar ek tes Galilaias ho christos erchetai;
Edified Edition (EDE)Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Will the Christ come out of Galilee?"

ἄλλοι ἔλεγον· Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ χριστός· ⸂οἱ δὲ⸃ ἔλεγον· Μὴ γὰρ ἐκ τῆς Γαλιλαίας ὁ χριστὸς ἔρχεται;

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀oych he graphe eipen hoti ek toy spermatos Dauid, kai apo Bethleem tes komes hopou en Dauid, ⸂erchetai ho christos⸃;
Edified Edition (EDE)"Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?"

Edified Edition (EDE)Now some of them wanted to take Him, but no one laid hands on Him.

Edified Edition (EDE)They answered and said to him, "Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet arises out of Galilee."

ἀπεκρίθησαν καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Μὴ καὶ σὺ ἐκ τῆς Γαλιλαίας εἶ; ἐραύνησον καὶ ἴδε ὅτι ⸂ἐκ τῆς Γαλιλαίας προφήτης⸃ οὐκ ⸀ἐγείρεται.
