Edified Edition (EDE)Now it happened, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, "LORD, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples."

Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ εἶναι αὐτὸν ἐν τόπῳ τινὶ προσευχόμενον, ὡς ἐπαύσατο, εἶπέν τις τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ πρὸς αὐτόν· Κύριε, δίδαξον ἡμᾶς προσεύχεσθαι, καθὼς καὶ Ἰωάννης ἐδίδαξεν τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): eipen de aytois· Ὅtan proseychesthe, legete· ⸀Pater, hagiastheto to onoma sou· eltheto he basileia ⸀sou·
Edified Edition (EDE)So He said to them, [JESUS]"When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."[/JESUS]

εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς· Ὅταν προσεύχησθε, λέγετε· ⸀Πάτερ, ἁγιασθήτω τὸ ὄνομά σου· ἐλθέτω ἡ βασιλεία ⸀σου·

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Give us day by day our daily bread."[/JESUS]

τὸν ἄρτον ἡμῶν τὸν ἐπιούσιον δίδου ἡμῖν τὸ καθʼ ἡμέραν·

Phonetic (Greek): kai aphes hemin tas hamartias hemon, kai gar aytoi aphiomen panti opheilonti hemin· kai me eisenenkῃs hemas eis ⸀peirasmon.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."[/JESUS]

καὶ ἄφες ἡμῖν τὰς ἁμαρτίας ἡμῶν, καὶ γὰρ αὐτοὶ ἀφίομεν παντὶ ὀφείλοντι ἡμῖν· καὶ μὴ εἰσενέγκῃς ἡμᾶς εἰς ⸀πειρασμόν.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai eipen pros aytoys· Tis ex hymon hexei philon kai poreysetai pros ayton mesonyktiou kai eipῃ aytῷ· Phile, chreson moi treis artous,
Edified Edition (EDE)And he said to them, who of you shall have a friend, and shall go to him at midnight, and say to him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

Καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Τίς ἐξ ὑμῶν ἕξει φίλον καὶ πορεύσεται πρὸς αὐτὸν μεσονυκτίου καὶ εἴπῃ αὐτῷ· Φίλε, χρῆσόν μοι τρεῖς ἄρτους,

Phonetic (Greek): epeide philos ⸀mou paregeneto ex hodoy pros me kai oyk echo ho paratheso aytῷ·
Edified Edition (EDE)For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?

ἐπειδὴ φίλος ⸀μου παρεγένετο ἐξ ὁδοῦ πρός με καὶ οὐκ ἔχω ὃ παραθήσω αὐτῷ·

Phonetic (Greek): kakeinos esothen apokritheis eipῃ· Me moi kopous pareche· ede he thyra kekleistai, kai ta paidia mou metʼ emoy eis ten koiten eisin· oy dynamai anastas doynai soi.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give you.

κἀκεῖνος ἔσωθεν ἀποκριθεὶς εἴπῃ· Μή μοι κόπους πάρεχε· ἤδη ἡ θύρα κέκλεισται, καὶ τὰ παιδία μου μετʼ ἐμοῦ εἰς τὴν κοίτην εἰσίν· οὐ δύναμαι ἀναστὰς δοῦναί σοι.

Phonetic (Greek): lego hymin, ei kai oy dosei aytῷ anastas dia to einai ⸂philon aytoy⸃, dia ge ten anaideian aytoy egertheis dosei aytῷ ⸀hoson chrῄzei.
Edified Edition (EDE)I say to you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

λέγω ὑμῖν, εἰ καὶ οὐ δώσει αὐτῷ ἀναστὰς διὰ τὸ εἶναι ⸂φίλον αὐτοῦ⸃, διά γε τὴν ἀναίδειαν αὐτοῦ ἐγερθεὶς δώσει αὐτῷ ⸀ὅσων χρῄζει.

Phonetic (Greek): Kago hymin lego, aiteite, kai dothesetai hymin· zeteite, kai ehyresete· kroyete, kai anoigesetai hymin·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."[/JESUS]

Κἀγὼ ὑμῖν λέγω, αἰτεῖτε, καὶ δοθήσεται ὑμῖν· ζητεῖτε, καὶ εὑρήσετε· κρούετε, καὶ ἀνοιγήσεται ὑμῖν·

Phonetic (Greek): pas gar ho aiton lambanei, kai ho zeton ehyriskei, kai tῷ kroyonti anoigesetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

πᾶς γὰρ ὁ αἰτῶν λαμβάνει, καὶ ὁ ζητῶν εὑρίσκει, καὶ τῷ κρούοντι ἀνοιγήσεται.

Phonetic (Greek): tina de ⸀ex hymon ton patera aitesei ho ⸀yhios ichthyn, ⸀kai anti ichthyos ophin ⸂aytῷ epidosei⸃;
Edified Edition (EDE)If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

τίνα δὲ ⸀ἐξ ὑμῶν τὸν πατέρα αἰτήσει ὁ ⸀υἱὸς ἰχθύν, ⸀καὶ ἀντὶ ἰχθύος ὄφιν ⸂αὐτῷ ἐπιδώσει⸃;

Phonetic (Greek): e kai ⸀aitesei oon, ⸀epidosei aytῷ skorpion;
Edified Edition (EDE)Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

ἢ καὶ ⸀αἰτήσει ᾠόν, ⸀ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ σκορπίον;

Phonetic (Greek): ei oyn hymeis poneroi hyparchontes oidate domata agatha didonai tois teknois hymon, posῳ mallon ho pater ho ex oyranoy dosei pneyma hagion tois aitoysin ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

εἰ οὖν ὑμεῖς πονηροὶ ὑπάρχοντες οἴδατε δόματα ἀγαθὰ διδόναι τοῖς τέκνοις ὑμῶν, πόσῳ μᾶλλον ὁ πατὴρ ὁ ἐξ οὐρανοῦ δώσει πνεῦμα ἅγιον τοῖς αἰτοῦσιν αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai en ekballon ⸀daimonion kophon· egeneto de toy daimoniou exelthontos elalesen ho kophos. kai ethaymasan ohi ochloi·
Edified Edition (EDE)And He was casting out a demon, and it was mute. So it was, when the demon had gone out, that the mute spoke; and the multitudes marvelled.

Καὶ ἦν ἐκβάλλων ⸀δαιμόνιον κωφόν· ἐγένετο δὲ τοῦ δαιμονίου ἐξελθόντος ἐλάλησεν ὁ κωφός. καὶ ἐθαύμασαν οἱ ὄχλοι·

Phonetic (Greek): tines de ex ayton eipon· Ἐn Beelzeboyl ⸀tῷ archonti ton daimonion ekballei ta daimonia·
Edified Edition (EDE)But some of them said, He casteth out demons through Beelzebub the chief of the demons.

τινὲς δὲ ἐξ αὐτῶν εἶπον· Ἐν Βεελζεβοὺλ ⸀τῷ ἄρχοντι τῶν δαιμονίων ἐκβάλλει τὰ δαιμόνια·

Phonetic (Greek): heteroi de peirazontes semeion ⸂ex oyranoy ezetoun parʼ aytoy⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.

ἕτεροι δὲ πειράζοντες σημεῖον ⸂ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ἐζήτουν παρʼ αὐτοῦ⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): aytos de eidos ayton ta dianoemata eipen aytois· Pasa basileia ephʼ heauten diameristheisa eremoytai, kai oikos epi oikon piptei.
Edified Edition (EDE)But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them: [JESUS]"Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls."[/JESUS]

αὐτὸς δὲ εἰδὼς αὐτῶν τὰ διανοήματα εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Πᾶσα βασιλεία ἐφʼ ἑαυτὴν διαμερισθεῖσα ἐρημοῦται, καὶ οἶκος ἐπὶ οἶκον πίπτει.

Phonetic (Greek): ei de kai ho Satanas ephʼ heauton diemeristhe, pos stathesetai he basileia aytoy; hoti legete en Beelzeboyl ekballein me ta daimonia.
Edified Edition (EDE)If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because you say that I cast out demons through Beelzebub.

εἰ δὲ καὶ ὁ Σατανᾶς ἐφʼ ἑαυτὸν διεμερίσθη, πῶς σταθήσεται ἡ βασιλεία αὐτοῦ; ὅτι λέγετε ἐν Βεελζεβοὺλ ἐκβάλλειν με τὰ δαιμόνια.

Phonetic (Greek): ei de ego en Beelzeboyl ekballo ta daimonia, ohi yhioi hymon en tini ekballousin; dia toyto ⸂aytoi hymon kritai⸃ esontai.
Edified Edition (EDE)And if I by Beelzebub cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.

εἰ δὲ ἐγὼ ἐν Βεελζεβοὺλ ἐκβάλλω τὰ δαιμόνια, οἱ υἱοὶ ὑμῶν ἐν τίνι ἐκβάλλουσιν; διὰ τοῦτο ⸂αὐτοὶ ὑμῶν κριταὶ⸃ ἔσονται.

Phonetic (Greek): ei de en daktylῳ ⸀theoy ekballo ta daimonia, ara ephthasen ephʼ hymas he basileia toy theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But if I cast out demons with the finger of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you."[/JESUS]

εἰ δὲ ἐν δακτύλῳ ⸀θεοῦ ἐκβάλλω τὰ δαιμόνια, ἄρα ἔφθασεν ἐφʼ ὑμᾶς ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): hotan ho ischyros kathoplismenos phylassῃ ten heautoy aylen, en eirenῃ estin ta hyparchonta aytoy·
Edified Edition (EDE)When a strong man armed keeps his palace, his goods are in peace:

ὅταν ὁ ἰσχυρὸς καθωπλισμένος φυλάσσῃ τὴν ἑαυτοῦ αὐλήν, ἐν εἰρήνῃ ἐστὶν τὰ ὑπάρχοντα αὐτοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): epan ⸀de ischyroteros ⸀aytoy epelthon nikesῃ ayton, ten panoplian aytoy airei ephʼ he epepoithei, kai ta skyla aytoy diadidosin.
Edified Edition (EDE)But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he takes from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

ἐπὰν ⸀δὲ ἰσχυρότερος ⸀αὐτοῦ ἐπελθὼν νικήσῃ αὐτόν, τὴν πανοπλίαν αὐτοῦ αἴρει ἐφʼ ᾗ ἐπεποίθει, καὶ τὰ σκῦλα αὐτοῦ διαδίδωσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): ho me on metʼ emoy katʼ emoy estin, kai ho me synagon metʼ emoy skorpizei.
Edified Edition (EDE)He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathers not with me scatters.

ὁ μὴ ὢν μετʼ ἐμοῦ κατʼ ἐμοῦ ἐστιν, καὶ ὁ μὴ συνάγων μετʼ ἐμοῦ σκορπίζει.

Phonetic (Greek): Ὅtan to akatharton pneyma exelthῃ apo toy anthropou, dierchetai diʼ anydron topon zetoyn anapausin, kai me ⸀ehyriskon legei· Ὑpostrepso eis ton oikon mou hothen exelthon·
Edified Edition (EDE)When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, I will return to my house Where I came out.

Ὅταν τὸ ἀκάθαρτον πνεῦμα ἐξέλθῃ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου, διέρχεται διʼ ἀνύδρων τόπων ζητοῦν ἀνάπαυσιν, καὶ μὴ ⸀εὑρίσκον λέγει· Ὑποστρέψω εἰς τὸν οἶκόν μου ὅθεν ἐξῆλθον·

Phonetic (Greek): kai elthon ⸀ehyriskei sesaromenon kai kekosmemenon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when he comes, he findeth it swept and garnished.

καὶ ἐλθὸν ⸀εὑρίσκει σεσαρωμένον καὶ κεκοσμημένον.

Phonetic (Greek): tote poreyetai kai paralambanei ⸂hetera pneymata ponerotera heautoy hepta⸃, kai ⸀eiselthonta katoikei ekei, kai ginetai ta eschata toy anthropou ekeinou cheirona ton proton.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then goes he, and takes to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

τότε πορεύεται καὶ παραλαμβάνει ⸂ἕτερα πνεύματα πονηρότερα ἑαυτοῦ ἑπτά⸃, καὶ ⸀εἰσελθόντα κατοικεῖ ἐκεῖ, καὶ γίνεται τὰ ἔσχατα τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκείνου χείρονα τῶν πρώτων.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἐgeneto de en tῷ legein ayton tayta eparasa tis ⸂phonen gyne⸃ ek toy ochlou eipen aytῷ· Makaria he koilia he bastasasa se kai mastoi ohys ethelasas·
Edified Edition (EDE)And it came to pass, as he spoke these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said to him, Blessed is the womb that bare you, and the paps which you have sucked.

Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ λέγειν αὐτὸν ταῦτα ἐπάρασά τις ⸂φωνὴν γυνὴ⸃ ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Μακαρία ἡ κοιλία ἡ βαστάσασά σε καὶ μαστοὶ οὓς ἐθήλασας·

Phonetic (Greek): aytos de eipen· ⸀Menoyn makarioi ohi akoyontes ton logon toy theoy kai ⸀phylassontes.
Edified Edition (EDE)But He said, [JESUS]"More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"[/JESUS]

αὐτὸς δὲ εἶπεν· ⸀Μενοῦν μακάριοι οἱ ἀκούοντες τὸν λόγον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ ⸀φυλάσσοντες.

Phonetic (Greek): Ton de ochlon epathroizomenon erxato legein· Ἡ genea ahyte ⸀genea ponera estin· semeion ⸀zetei, kai semeion oy dothesetai aytῇ ei me to semeion ⸀Ἰona.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.

Τῶν δὲ ὄχλων ἐπαθροιζομένων ἤρξατο λέγειν· Ἡ γενεὰ αὕτη ⸀γενεὰ πονηρά ἐστιν· σημεῖον ⸀ζητεῖ, καὶ σημεῖον οὐ δοθήσεται αὐτῇ εἰ μὴ τὸ σημεῖον ⸀Ἰωνᾶ.

Phonetic (Greek): kathos gar egeneto ⸀Ἰonas ⸂tois Nineuitais semeion⸃, ohytos estai kai ho yhios toy anthropou tῇ geneᾷ taytῃ.
Edified Edition (EDE)For as Jonas was a sign to the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.

καθὼς γὰρ ἐγένετο ⸀Ἰωνᾶς ⸂τοῖς Νινευίταις σημεῖον⸃, οὕτως ἔσται καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τῇ γενεᾷ ταύτῃ.

Phonetic (Greek): basilissa notou egerthesetai en tῇ krisei meta ton andron tes geneas taytes kai katakrinei aytoys· hoti elthen ek ton peraton tes ges akoysai ten sophian Solomonos, kai idoy pleion Solomonos hode.
Edified Edition (EDE)The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgement with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

βασίλισσα νότου ἐγερθήσεται ἐν τῇ κρίσει μετὰ τῶν ἀνδρῶν τῆς γενεᾶς ταύτης καὶ κατακρινεῖ αὐτούς· ὅτι ἦλθεν ἐκ τῶν περάτων τῆς γῆς ἀκοῦσαι τὴν σοφίαν Σολομῶνος, καὶ ἰδοὺ πλεῖον Σολομῶνος ὧδε.

Phonetic (Greek): andres ⸀Nineuitai anastesontai en tῇ krisei meta tes geneas taytes kai katakrinoysin ayten· hoti metenoesan eis to kerygma Ἰona, kai idoy pleion Ἰona hode.
Edified Edition (EDE)The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgement with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

ἄνδρες ⸀Νινευῖται ἀναστήσονται ἐν τῇ κρίσει μετὰ τῆς γενεᾶς ταύτης καὶ κατακρινοῦσιν αὐτήν· ὅτι μετενόησαν εἰς τὸ κήρυγμα Ἰωνᾶ, καὶ ἰδοὺ πλεῖον Ἰωνᾶ ὧδε.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀Oydeis lychnon hapsas eis krypten tithesin oyde hypo ton modion allʼ epi ten lychnian, hina ohi eisporeuomenoi to ⸀phengos bleposin.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light."[/JESUS]

⸀Οὐδεὶς λύχνον ἅψας εἰς κρύπτην τίθησιν οὐδὲ ὑπὸ τὸν μόδιον ἀλλʼ ἐπὶ τὴν λυχνίαν, ἵνα οἱ εἰσπορευόμενοι τὸ ⸀φέγγος βλέπωσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): ho lychnos toy somatos estin ho ophthalmos ⸀sou. ⸀hotan ho ophthalmos sou haploys e, kai holon to soma sou photeinon estin· epan de poneros e, kai to soma sou skoteinon.
Edified Edition (EDE)The light of the body is the eye: therefore when your eye is single, your whole body also is full of light; but when your eye is evil, your body also is full of darkness.

ὁ λύχνος τοῦ σώματός ἐστιν ὁ ὀφθαλμός ⸀σου. ⸀ὅταν ὁ ὀφθαλμός σου ἁπλοῦς ᾖ, καὶ ὅλον τὸ σῶμά σου φωτεινόν ἐστιν· ἐπὰν δὲ πονηρὸς ᾖ, καὶ τὸ σῶμά σου σκοτεινόν.

Phonetic (Greek): skopei oyn me to phos to en soi skotos estin.
Edified Edition (EDE)Take heed therefore that the light which is in you be not darkness.

σκόπει οὖν μὴ τὸ φῶς τὸ ἐν σοὶ σκότος ἐστίν.

Phonetic (Greek): ei oyn to soma sou holon photeinon, me echon ⸂meros ti⸃ skoteinon, estai photeinon holon hos hotan ho lychnos tῇ astrapῇ photizῃ se.
Edified Edition (EDE)If your whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle does give you light.

εἰ οὖν τὸ σῶμά σου ὅλον φωτεινόν, μὴ ἔχον ⸂μέρος τι⸃ σκοτεινόν, ἔσται φωτεινὸν ὅλον ὡς ὅταν ὁ λύχνος τῇ ἀστραπῇ φωτίζῃ σε.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἐn de tῷ lalesai ⸀erotᾷ ayton ⸀Pharisaios hopos aristesῃ parʼ aytῷ· eiselthon de anepesen.
Edified Edition (EDE)And as he spoke, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.

Ἐν δὲ τῷ λαλῆσαι ⸀ἐρωτᾷ αὐτὸν ⸀Φαρισαῖος ὅπως ἀριστήσῃ παρʼ αὐτῷ· εἰσελθὼν δὲ ἀνέπεσεν.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de Pharisaios idon ethaymasen hoti oy proton ebaptisthe pro toy aristou.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.

ὁ δὲ Φαρισαῖος ἰδὼν ἐθαύμασεν ὅτι οὐ πρῶτον ἐβαπτίσθη πρὸ τοῦ ἀρίστου.

Phonetic (Greek): eipen de ho kyrios pros ayton· Nyn hymeis ohi Pharisaioi to exothen toy poteriou kai toy pinakos katharizete, to de esothen hymon gemei harpages kai ponerias.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the Lord said to him, Now do you Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

εἶπεν δὲ ὁ κύριος πρὸς αὐτόν· Νῦν ὑμεῖς οἱ Φαρισαῖοι τὸ ἔξωθεν τοῦ ποτηρίου καὶ τοῦ πίνακος καθαρίζετε, τὸ δὲ ἔσωθεν ὑμῶν γέμει ἁρπαγῆς καὶ πονηρίας.

Phonetic (Greek): aphrones, oych ho poiesas to exothen kai to esothen epoiesen;
Edified Edition (EDE)you fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?

Edified Edition (EDE)Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.
