Phonetic (Greek): Kai egeneto en tῷ elthein ayton eis oikon tinos ton archonton ton Pharisaion sabbatῳ phagein arton kai aytoi esan parateroymenoi ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now it happened, as He went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath, that they watched Him closely.

Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἐλθεῖν αὐτὸν εἰς οἶκόν τινος τῶν ἀρχόντων τῶν Φαρισαίων σαββάτῳ φαγεῖν ἄρτον καὶ αὐτοὶ ἦσαν παρατηρούμενοι αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai idoy anthropos tis en hydropikos emprosthen aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And, behold, there was a certain man before him who had the dropsy.

καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνθρωπός τις ἦν ὑδρωπικὸς ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai apokritheis ho Ἰesoys eipen pros toys nomikoys kai Pharisaious legon· ⸀Ἔxestin tῷ sabbatῳ ⸂therapeysai e oy⸃;
Edified Edition (EDE)And Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, [JESUS]"Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?"[/JESUS]

καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν πρὸς τοὺς νομικοὺς καὶ Φαρισαίους λέγων· ⸀Ἔξεστιν τῷ σαββάτῳ ⸂θεραπεῦσαι ἢ οὔ⸃;

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de hesychasan. kai epilabomenos iasato ayton kai apelysen.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;

οἱ δὲ ἡσύχασαν. καὶ ἐπιλαβόμενος ἰάσατο αὐτὸν καὶ ἀπέλυσεν.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀kai pros aytoys eipen· Tinos hymon yhios e boys eis phrear ⸀peseitai, kai oyk eytheos anaspasei ayton ⸀en hemerᾳ toy sabbatou;
Edified Edition (EDE)And answered them, saying, who of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not immediately pull him out on the sabbath day?

⸀καὶ πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἶπεν· Τίνος ὑμῶν υἱὸς ἢ βοῦς εἰς φρέαρ ⸀πεσεῖται, καὶ οὐκ εὐθέως ἀνασπάσει αὐτὸν ⸀ἐν ἡμέρᾳ τοῦ σαββάτου;

Phonetic (Greek): kai oyk ischysan ⸀antapokrithenai pros tayta.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they could not answer him again to these things.

καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν ⸀ἀνταποκριθῆναι πρὸς ταῦτα.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἔlegen de pros toys keklemenous parabolen, epechon pos tas protoklisias exelegonto, legon pros aytoys·
Edified Edition (EDE)And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying to them,

Ἔλεγεν δὲ πρὸς τοὺς κεκλημένους παραβολήν, ἐπέχων πῶς τὰς πρωτοκλισίας ἐξελέγοντο, λέγων πρὸς αὐτούς·

Phonetic (Greek): Ὅtan klethῇs hypo tinos eis gamous, me kataklithῇs eis ten protoklisian, mepote entimoteros sou e keklemenos hypʼ aytoy
Edified Edition (EDE)When you are bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than you be bidden of him;

Ὅταν κληθῇς ὑπό τινος εἰς γάμους, μὴ κατακλιθῇς εἰς τὴν πρωτοκλισίαν, μήποτε ἐντιμότερός σου ᾖ κεκλημένος ὑπʼ αὐτοῦ

Phonetic (Greek): kai elthon ho se kai ayton kalesas erei soi· Dos toytῳ topon, kai tote arxῃ meta aischynes ton eschaton topon katechein.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he that bade you and him come and say to you, Give this man place; and you begin with shame to take the lowest room.

καὶ ἐλθὼν ὁ σὲ καὶ αὐτὸν καλέσας ἐρεῖ σοι· Δὸς τούτῳ τόπον, καὶ τότε ἄρξῃ μετὰ αἰσχύνης τὸν ἔσχατον τόπον κατέχειν.

Phonetic (Greek): allʼ hotan klethῇs poreutheis anapese eis ton eschaton topon, hina hotan elthῃ ho keklekos se ⸀erei soi· Phile, prosanabethi anoteron· tote estai soi doxa enopion ⸀panton ton synanakeimenon soi.
Edified Edition (EDE)But when you are bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade you comes, he may say to you, Friend, go up higher: then shall you have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with you.

ἀλλʼ ὅταν κληθῇς πορευθεὶς ἀνάπεσε εἰς τὸν ἔσχατον τόπον, ἵνα ὅταν ἔλθῃ ὁ κεκληκώς σε ⸀ἐρεῖ σοι· Φίλε, προσανάβηθι ἀνώτερον· τότε ἔσται σοι δόξα ἐνώπιον ⸀πάντων τῶν συνανακειμένων σοι.

Phonetic (Greek): hoti pas ho hypson heauton tapeinothesetai kai ho tapeinon heauton hypsothesetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."[/JESUS]

ὅτι πᾶς ὁ ὑψῶν ἑαυτὸν ταπεινωθήσεται καὶ ὁ ταπεινῶν ἑαυτὸν ὑψωθήσεται.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἔlegen de kai tῷ keklekoti ayton· Ὅtan poiῇs ariston e deipnon, me phonei toys philous sou mede toys adelphoys sou mede toys syngeneis sou mede geitonas plousious, mepote kai aytoi ⸂antikalesosin se⸃ kai genetai ⸂antapodoma soi⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then said he also to him that bade him, When you makest a dinner or a supper, call not your friends, nor your brothers, neither your kinsmen, nor your rich neighbours; lest they also bid you again, and a recompence be made you.

Ἔλεγεν δὲ καὶ τῷ κεκληκότι αὐτόν· Ὅταν ποιῇς ἄριστον ἢ δεῖπνον, μὴ φώνει τοὺς φίλους σου μηδὲ τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου μηδὲ τοὺς συγγενεῖς σου μηδὲ γείτονας πλουσίους, μήποτε καὶ αὐτοὶ ⸂ἀντικαλέσωσίν σε⸃ καὶ γένηται ⸂ἀνταπόδομά σοι⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): allʼ hotan ⸂dochen poiῇs⸃, kalei ptochoys, anapeirous, choloys, typhloys·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind.[/JESUS]

ἀλλʼ ὅταν ⸂δοχὴν ποιῇς⸃, κάλει πτωχούς, ἀναπείρους, χωλούς, τυφλούς·

Phonetic (Greek): kai makarios esῃ, hoti oyk echousin antapodoynai soi, antapodothesetai gar soi en tῇ anastasei ton dikaion.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just."[/JESUS]

καὶ μακάριος ἔσῃ, ὅτι οὐκ ἔχουσιν ἀνταποδοῦναί σοι, ἀνταποδοθήσεται γάρ σοι ἐν τῇ ἀναστάσει τῶν δικαίων.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀkoysas de tis ton synanakeimenon tayta eipen aytῷ· Makarios ⸀hostis phagetai ⸀arton en tῇ basileiᾳ toy theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said to him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

Ἀκούσας δέ τις τῶν συνανακειμένων ταῦτα εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Μακάριος ⸀ὅστις φάγεται ⸀ἄρτον ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ θεοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de eipen aytῷ· Ἄnthropos tis ⸀epoiei deipnon mega, kai ekalesen polloys,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then said he to him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἄνθρωπός τις ⸀ἐποίει δεῖπνον μέγα, καὶ ἐκάλεσεν πολλούς,

Phonetic (Greek): kai apesteilen ton doylon aytoy tῇ horᾳ toy deipnou eipein tois keklemenois· Ἔrchesthe, hoti ede hetoima ⸀estin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τὸν δοῦλον αὐτοῦ τῇ ὥρᾳ τοῦ δείπνου εἰπεῖν τοῖς κεκλημένοις· Ἔρχεσθε, ὅτι ἤδη ἕτοιμά ⸀ἐστιν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai erxanto apo mias ⸂pantes paraiteisthai⸃. ho protos eipen aytῷ· Ἀgron egorasa kai echo ananken ⸀exelthon idein ayton· eroto se, eche me parῃtemenon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said to him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray you have me excused.

καὶ ἤρξαντο ἀπὸ μιᾶς ⸂πάντες παραιτεῖσθαι⸃. ὁ πρῶτος εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἀγρὸν ἠγόρασα καὶ ἔχω ἀνάγκην ⸀ἐξελθὼν ἰδεῖν αὐτόν· ἐρωτῶ σε, ἔχε με παρῃτημένον.

Phonetic (Greek): kai heteros eipen· Zeyge boon egorasa pente kai poreyomai dokimasai ayta· eroto se, eche me parῃtemenon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray you have me excused.

καὶ ἕτερος εἶπεν· Ζεύγη βοῶν ἠγόρασα πέντε καὶ πορεύομαι δοκιμάσαι αὐτά· ἐρωτῶ σε, ἔχε με παρῃτημένον.

Phonetic (Greek): kai heteros eipen· Gynaika egema kai dia toyto oy dynamai elthein.
Edified Edition (EDE)And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

καὶ ἕτερος εἶπεν· Γυναῖκα ἔγημα καὶ διὰ τοῦτο οὐ δύναμαι ἐλθεῖν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai paragenomenos ho ⸀doylos apengeilen tῷ kyriῳ aytoy tayta. tote orgistheis ho oikodespotes eipen tῷ doylῳ aytoy· Ἔxelthe tacheos eis tas plateias kai ῥymas tes poleos, kai toys ptochoys kai anapeirous kai ⸂typhloys kai choloys⸃ eisagage hode.
Edified Edition (EDE)So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in Here the poor, and the crippled, and the lame, and the blind.

καὶ παραγενόμενος ὁ ⸀δοῦλος ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ κυρίῳ αὐτοῦ ταῦτα. τότε ὀργισθεὶς ὁ οἰκοδεσπότης εἶπεν τῷ δούλῳ αὐτοῦ· Ἔξελθε ταχέως εἰς τὰς πλατείας καὶ ῥύμας τῆς πόλεως, καὶ τοὺς πτωχοὺς καὶ ἀναπείρους καὶ ⸂τυφλοὺς καὶ χωλοὺς⸃ εἰσάγαγε ὧδε.

Phonetic (Greek): kai eipen ho doylos· Kyrie, gegonen ⸀ho epetaxas, kai eti topos estin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the servant said, Lord, it is done as you have commanded, and yet there is room.

καὶ εἶπεν ὁ δοῦλος· Κύριε, γέγονεν ⸀ὃ ἐπέταξας, καὶ ἔτι τόπος ἐστίν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai eipen ho kyrios pros ton doylon· Ἔxelthe eis tas hodoys kai phragmoys kai anankason eiselthein, hina gemisthῇ ⸂mou ho oikos⸃·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Then the master said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.'"[/JESUS]

καὶ εἶπεν ὁ κύριος πρὸς τὸν δοῦλον· Ἔξελθε εἰς τὰς ὁδοὺς καὶ φραγμοὺς καὶ ἀνάγκασον εἰσελθεῖν, ἵνα γεμισθῇ ⸂μου ὁ οἶκος⸃·

Phonetic (Greek): lego gar hymin hoti oydeis ton andron ekeinon ton keklemenon geysetai mou toy ⸀deipnou.
Edified Edition (EDE)For I say to you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδεὶς τῶν ἀνδρῶν ἐκείνων τῶν κεκλημένων γεύσεταί μου τοῦ ⸀δείπνου.

Phonetic (Greek): Syneporeyonto de aytῷ ochloi polloi, kai strapheis eipen pros aytoys·
Edified Edition (EDE)And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said to them,

Συνεπορεύοντο δὲ αὐτῷ ὄχλοι πολλοί, καὶ στραφεὶς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς·

Phonetic (Greek): Ei tis erchetai pros me kai oy misei ton patera ⸀heautoy kai ten metera kai ten gynaika kai ta tekna kai toys adelphoys kai tas adelphas, eti ⸀te kai ten ⸂psychen heautoy⸃, oy dynatai ⸂einai mou mathetes⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple."[/JESUS]

Εἴ τις ἔρχεται πρός με καὶ οὐ μισεῖ τὸν πατέρα ⸀ἑαυτοῦ καὶ τὴν μητέρα καὶ τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ τὰ τέκνα καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς καὶ τὰς ἀδελφάς, ἔτι ⸀τε καὶ τὴν ⸂ψυχὴν ἑαυτοῦ⸃, οὐ δύναται ⸂εἶναί μου μαθητής⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀hostis oy bastazei ton stauron ⸀heautoy kai erchetai opiso mou, oy dynatai einai mou mathetes.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple."[/JESUS]

⸀ὅστις οὐ βαστάζει τὸν σταυρὸν ⸀ἑαυτοῦ καὶ ἔρχεται ὀπίσω μου, οὐ δύναται εἶναί μου μαθητής.

Phonetic (Greek): tis gar ex ⸀hymon thelon pyrgon oikodomesai oychi proton kathisas psephizei ten dapanen, ei ⸀echei eis apartismon;
Edified Edition (EDE)For which of you, intending to build a tower, sits not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

τίς γὰρ ἐξ ⸀ὑμῶν θέλων πύργον οἰκοδομῆσαι οὐχὶ πρῶτον καθίσας ψηφίζει τὴν δαπάνην, εἰ ⸀ἔχει εἰς ἀπαρτισμόν;

Phonetic (Greek): hina mepote thentos aytoy themelion kai me ischyontos ektelesai pantes ohi theoroyntes arxontai ⸂aytῷ empaizein⸃
Edified Edition (EDE)Lest haply, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

ἵνα μήποτε θέντος αὐτοῦ θεμέλιον καὶ μὴ ἰσχύοντος ἐκτελέσαι πάντες οἱ θεωροῦντες ἄρξωνται ⸂αὐτῷ ἐμπαίζειν⸃

Phonetic (Greek): legontes hoti Ohytos ho anthropos erxato oikodomein kai oyk ischysen ektelesai.
Edified Edition (EDE)Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

λέγοντες ὅτι Οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἤρξατο οἰκοδομεῖν καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσεν ἐκτελέσαι.

Phonetic (Greek): e tis basileys poreuomenos ⸂heterῳ basilei symbalein⸃ eis polemon oychi kathisas proton ⸀bouleysetai ei dynatos estin en deka chiliasin ⸀hypantesai tῷ meta eikosi chiliadon erchomenῳ epʼ ayton;
Edified Edition (EDE)Or what king, going to make war against another king, sits not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand?

ἢ τίς βασιλεὺς πορευόμενος ⸂ἑτέρῳ βασιλεῖ συμβαλεῖν⸃ εἰς πόλεμον οὐχὶ καθίσας πρῶτον ⸀βουλεύσεται εἰ δυνατός ἐστιν ἐν δέκα χιλιάσιν ⸀ὑπαντῆσαι τῷ μετὰ εἴκοσι χιλιάδων ἐρχομένῳ ἐπʼ αὐτόν;

Phonetic (Greek): ei de mege, eti ⸂aytoy porro⸃ ontos presbeian aposteilas erotᾷ ⸀ta pros eirenen.
Edified Edition (EDE)Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

εἰ δὲ μήγε, ἔτι ⸂αὐτοῦ πόρρω⸃ ὄντος πρεσβείαν ἀποστείλας ἐρωτᾷ ⸀τὰ πρὸς εἰρήνην.

Phonetic (Greek): ohytos oyn pas ex hymon hos oyk apotassetai pasin tois heautoy hyparchousin oy dynatai ⸂einai mou⸃ mathetes.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple."[/JESUS]

οὕτως οὖν πᾶς ἐξ ὑμῶν ὃς οὐκ ἀποτάσσεται πᾶσιν τοῖς ἑαυτοῦ ὑπάρχουσιν οὐ δύναται ⸂εἶναί μου⸃ μαθητής.

Phonetic (Greek): Kalon ⸀oyn to halas· ean de ⸀kai to halas moranthῇ, en tini artythesetai;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavour, how shall it be seasoned?"[/JESUS]

Καλὸν ⸀οὖν τὸ ἅλας· ἐὰν δὲ ⸀καὶ τὸ ἅλας μωρανθῇ, ἐν τίνι ἀρτυθήσεται;

Phonetic (Greek): oyte eis gen oyte eis koprian eytheton estin· exo ballousin ayto. ho echon ota akoyein akoueto.
Edified Edition (EDE)It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that has ears to hear, let him hear.

οὔτε εἰς γῆν οὔτε εἰς κοπρίαν εὔθετόν ἐστιν· ἔξω βάλλουσιν αὐτό. ὁ ἔχων ὦτα ἀκούειν ἀκουέτω.
