Chapter 16
1
Phonetic (Greek): Ἔlegen de kai pros toys ⸀mathetas· Ἄnthropos tis en ploysios hos eichen oikonomon, kai ohytos dieblethe aytῷ hos diaskorpizon ta hyparchonta aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)He also said to His disciples: [JESUS]"There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and an accusation was brought to him that this man was wasting his goods.

2
Phonetic (Greek): kai phonesas ayton eipen aytῷ· Ti toyto akoyo peri soy; apodos ton logon tes oikonomias sou, oy gar ⸀dynῃ eti oikonomein.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]So he called him and said to him, ‘How is it that I hear this about you? Give an account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.’

3
Phonetic (Greek): eipen de en heautῷ ho oikonomos· Ti poieso hoti ho kyrios mou aphaireitai ten oikonomian apʼ emoy; skaptein oyk ischyo, epaitein aischynomai·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]Then the steward said within himself, ‘What shall I do? For my lord is taking the stewardship away from me. I cannot dig; I am ashamed to beg.

4
Phonetic (Greek): egnon ti poieso, hina hotan metastatho ⸀ek tes oikonomias dexontai me eis toys oikous ⸀heauton.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]I have resolved what to do, that when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.’

5
Phonetic (Greek): kai proskalesamenos hena hekaston ton chreopheileton toy kyriou heautoy elegen tῷ protῳ· Poson opheileis tῷ kyriῳ mou;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]So he called every one of his lord’s debtors to him and said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my lord?’

καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος ἕνα ἕκαστον τῶν χρεοφειλετῶν τοῦ κυρίου ἑαυτοῦ ἔλεγεν τῷ πρώτῳ· Πόσον ὀφείλεις τῷ κυρίῳ μου;

6
Phonetic (Greek): ho de eipen· Ἑkaton batous elaiou· ⸂ho de⸃ eipen aytῷ· Dexai sou ⸂ta grammata⸃ kai kathisas tacheos grapson pentekonta.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]And he said, ‘A hundred measures of oil.’ So he said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’

7
Phonetic (Greek): epeita heterῳ eipen· Sy de poson opheileis; ho de eipen· Ἑkaton korous sitou· ⸀legei aytῷ· Dexai sou ⸂ta grammata⸃ kai grapson ogdoekonta.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]Then he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ So he said, ‘A hundred measures of wheat.’ And he said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’

8
Phonetic (Greek): kai epῄnesen ho kyrios ton oikonomon tes adikias hoti phronimos epoiesen· hoti ohi yhioi toy aionos toytou phronimoteroi hyper toys yhioys toy photos eis ten genean ten heauton eisin.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]So the master commended the unjust steward because he had dealt shrewdly. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in their generation than the sons of light.

9
Phonetic (Greek): kai ego hymin lego, ⸂heautois poiesate⸃ philous ek toy mamona tes adikias, hina hotan ⸀eklipῃ dexontai hymas eis tas aionious skenas.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by unrighteous mammon, that when you fail, they may receive you into an everlasting dwelling.

10
Phonetic (Greek): Ὁ pistos en elachistῳ kai en pollῷ pistos estin, kai ho en elachistῳ adikos kai en pollῷ adikos estin.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.

11
Phonetic (Greek): ei oyn en tῷ adikῳ mamonᾷ pistoi oyk egenesthe, to alethinon tis hymin pisteysei;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

εἰ οὖν ἐν τῷ ἀδίκῳ μαμωνᾷ πιστοὶ οὐκ ἐγένεσθε, τὸ ἀληθινὸν τίς ὑμῖν πιστεύσει;

12
Phonetic (Greek): kai ei en tῷ allotriῳ pistoi oyk egenesthe, to ⸀hymeteron tis ⸂dosei hymin⸃;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?

καὶ εἰ ἐν τῷ ἀλλοτρίῳ πιστοὶ οὐκ ἐγένεσθε, τὸ ⸀ὑμέτερον τίς ⸂δώσει ὑμῖν⸃;

13
Phonetic (Greek): oydeis oiketes dynatai dysi kyriois douleyein· e gar ton hena misesei kai ton heteron agapesei, e henos anthexetai kai toy heterou kataphronesei. oy dynasthe theῷ douleyein kai mamonᾷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.’[/JESUS]

14
Phonetic (Greek): Ἤkouon de tayta ⸀panta ohi Pharisaioi philargyroi hyparchontes, kai exemykterizon ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they derided Him.

16
Phonetic (Greek): Ὁ nomos kai ohi prophetai ⸀mechri Ἰoannou· apo tote he basileia toy theoy eyangelizetai kai pas eis ayten biazetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is pressing into it.

17
Phonetic (Greek): Eykopoteron de estin ton oyranon kai ten gen parelthein e toy nomou mian keraian pesein.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail.

18
Phonetic (Greek): Pas ho apolyon ten gynaika aytoy kai gamon heteran moicheyei, ⸀kai ho apolelymenen apo andros gamon moicheyei.

20
Phonetic (Greek): ptochos de ⸀tis onomati ⸀Lazaros ebebleto pros ton pylona aytoy ehilkomenos

21
Phonetic (Greek): kai epithymon chortasthenai ⸀apo ton piptonton apo tes trapezes toy plousiou· alla kai ohi kynes erchomenoi ⸀epeleichon ta helke aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

22
Phonetic (Greek): egeneto de apothanein ton ptochon kai apenechthenai ayton hypo ton angelon eis ton kolpon Ἀbraam· apethanen de kai ho ploysios kai etaphe.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’
