Edified Edition (EDE)Now it happened on one of those days, as He taught the people in the temple and preached the gospel, that the chief priests and the scribes, together with the elders, confronted Him

Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν μιᾷ τῶν ⸀ἡμερῶν διδάσκοντος αὐτοῦ τὸν λαὸν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ καὶ εὐαγγελιζομένου ἐπέστησαν οἱ ⸀ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς σὺν τοῖς πρεσβυτέροις,

Phonetic (Greek): kai eipan ⸂legontes pros ayton⸃· Eipon hemin en poiᾳ exousiᾳ tayta poieis, e tis estin ho doys soi ten exousian tayten;
Edified Edition (EDE)And spoke to him, saying, Tell us, by what authority do you these things? or who is he that gave you this authority?

καὶ εἶπαν ⸂λέγοντες πρὸς αὐτόν⸃· Εἰπὸν ἡμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιεῖς, ἢ τίς ἐστιν ὁ δούς σοι τὴν ἐξουσίαν ταύτην;

Phonetic (Greek): apokritheis de eipen pros aytoys· Ἐroteso hymas ⸀kago logon, kai eipate moi·
Edified Edition (EDE)But He answered and said to them, [JESUS]"I also will ask you one thing, and answer Me:"[/JESUS]

ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Ἐρωτήσω ὑμᾶς ⸀κἀγὼ λόγον, καὶ εἴπατέ μοι·

Phonetic (Greek): To baptisma Ἰoannou ex oyranoy en e ex anthropon;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"The baptism of John: was it from heaven or from men?"[/JESUS]

Τὸ βάπτισμα Ἰωάννου ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ἦν ἢ ἐξ ἀνθρώπων;

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de synelogisanto pros heautoys legontes hoti Ἐan eipomen· Ἐx oyranoy, erei· Dia ti oyk episteysate aytῷ;
Edified Edition (EDE)And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed you him not?

οἱ δὲ συνελογίσαντο πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς λέγοντες ὅτι Ἐὰν εἴπωμεν· Ἐξ οὐρανοῦ, ἐρεῖ· Διὰ τί οὐκ ἐπιστεύσατε αὐτῷ;

Phonetic (Greek): ean de eipomen· Ἐx anthropon, ⸂ho laos hapas⸃ katalithasei hemas, pepeismenos gar estin Ἰoannen propheten einai·
Edified Edition (EDE)But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.

ἐὰν δὲ εἴπωμεν· Ἐξ ἀνθρώπων, ⸂ὁ λαὸς ἅπας⸃ καταλιθάσει ἡμᾶς, πεπεισμένος γάρ ἐστιν Ἰωάννην προφήτην εἶναι·

Phonetic (Greek): kai apekrithesan me eidenai pothen.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they answered, that they could not tell Where it was.

καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν μὴ εἰδέναι πόθεν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ho Ἰesoys eipen aytois· Oyde ego lego hymin en poiᾳ exousiᾳ tayta poio.
Edified Edition (EDE)And Jesus said to them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

καὶ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Οὐδὲ ἐγὼ λέγω ὑμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιῶ.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἤrxato de pros ton laon legein ten parabolen tayten· ⸀Ἄnthropos ephyteusen ampelona, kai exedeto ayton georgois, kai apedemesen chronous hikanoys.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then He began to tell the people this parable: [JESUS]"A certain man planted a vineyard, leased it to vinedressers, and went into a far country for a long time."[/JESUS]

Ἤρξατο δὲ πρὸς τὸν λαὸν λέγειν τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην· ⸀Ἄνθρωπος ἐφύτευσεν ἀμπελῶνα, καὶ ἐξέδετο αὐτὸν γεωργοῖς, καὶ ἀπεδήμησεν χρόνους ἱκανούς.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀kai kairῷ apesteilen pros toys georgoys doylon, hina apo toy karpoy toy ampelonos ⸀dosousin aytῷ· ohi de georgoi ⸂exapesteilan ayton deirantes⸃ kenon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And at the season he sent a servant to the farmers, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the farmers beat him, and sent him away empty.

⸀καὶ καιρῷ ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς τοὺς γεωργοὺς δοῦλον, ἵνα ἀπὸ τοῦ καρποῦ τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος ⸀δώσουσιν αὐτῷ· οἱ δὲ γεωργοὶ ⸂ἐξαπέστειλαν αὐτὸν δείραντες⸃ κενόν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai prosetheto ⸂heteron pempsai⸃ doylon· ohi de kakeinon deirantes kai atimasantes exapesteilan kenon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.

καὶ προσέθετο ⸂ἕτερον πέμψαι⸃ δοῦλον· οἱ δὲ κἀκεῖνον δείραντες καὶ ἀτιμάσαντες ἐξαπέστειλαν κενόν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai prosetheto ⸂triton pempsai⸃· ohi de kai toyton traumatisantes exebalon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.

καὶ προσέθετο ⸂τρίτον πέμψαι⸃· οἱ δὲ καὶ τοῦτον τραυματίσαντες ἐξέβαλον.

Phonetic (Greek): eipen de ho kyrios toy ampelonos· Ti poieso; pempso ton yhion mou ton agapeton· isos ⸀toyton entrapesontai.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him.

εἶπεν δὲ ὁ κύριος τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος· Τί ποιήσω; πέμψω τὸν υἱόν μου τὸν ἀγαπητόν· ἴσως ⸀τοῦτον ἐντραπήσονται.

Phonetic (Greek): idontes de ayton ohi georgoi dielogizonto pros ⸀allelous legontes· Ohytos estin ho kleronomos· ⸀apokteinomen ayton, hina hemon genetai he kleronomia·
Edified Edition (EDE)But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.

ἰδόντες δὲ αὐτὸν οἱ γεωργοὶ διελογίζοντο πρὸς ⸀ἀλλήλους λέγοντες· Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ κληρονόμος· ⸀ἀποκτείνωμεν αὐτόν, ἵνα ἡμῶν γένηται ἡ κληρονομία·

Phonetic (Greek): kai ekbalontes ayton exo toy ampelonos apekteinan. ti oyn poiesei aytois ho kyrios toy ampelonos;
Edified Edition (EDE)So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do to them?

καὶ ἐκβαλόντες αὐτὸν ἔξω τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος ἀπέκτειναν. τί οὖν ποιήσει αὐτοῖς ὁ κύριος τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος;

Phonetic (Greek): eleysetai kai apolesei toys georgoys toytous, kai dosei ton ampelona allois. akoysantes de eipan· Me genoito.
Edified Edition (EDE)He shall come and destroy these farmers, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.

ἐλεύσεται καὶ ἀπολέσει τοὺς γεωργοὺς τούτους, καὶ δώσει τὸν ἀμπελῶνα ἄλλοις. ἀκούσαντες δὲ εἶπαν· Μὴ γένοιτο.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de emblepsas aytois eipen· Ti oyn estin to gegrammenon toyto· Lithon hon apedokimasan ohi oikodomoyntes, ohytos egenethe eis kephalen gonias;
Edified Edition (EDE)Then He looked at them and said, [JESUS]"What then is this that is written: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone'?"[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ἐμβλέψας αὐτοῖς εἶπεν· Τί οὖν ἐστιν τὸ γεγραμμένον τοῦτο· Λίθον ὃν ἀπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες, οὗτος ἐγενήθη εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίας;

Phonetic (Greek): pas ho peson epʼ ekeinon ton lithon synthlasthesetai· ephʼ hon dʼ an pesῃ, likmesei ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)whoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

πᾶς ὁ πεσὼν ἐπʼ ἐκεῖνον τὸν λίθον συνθλασθήσεται· ἐφʼ ὃν δʼ ἂν πέσῃ, λικμήσει αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ezetesan ohi ⸂grammateis kai ohi archiereis⸃ epibalein epʼ ayton tas cheiras en aytῇ tῇ horᾳ, kai ephobethesan ⸂ton laon⸃, egnosan gar hoti pros aytoys ⸂eipen ten parabolen tayten⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.

καὶ ἐζήτησαν οἱ ⸂γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς⸃ ἐπιβαλεῖν ἐπʼ αὐτὸν τὰς χεῖρας ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν ⸂τὸν λαόν⸃, ἔγνωσαν γὰρ ὅτι πρὸς αὐτοὺς ⸂εἶπεν τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai parateresantes apesteilan enkathetous hypokrinomenous heautoys dikaious einai, hina epilabontai aytoy logou, ⸀hoste paradoynai ayton tῇ archῇ kai tῇ exousiᾳ toy hegemonos.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him to the power and authority of the governor.

Καὶ παρατηρήσαντες ἀπέστειλαν ἐγκαθέτους ὑποκρινομένους ἑαυτοὺς δικαίους εἶναι, ἵνα ἐπιλάβωνται αὐτοῦ λόγου, ⸀ὥστε παραδοῦναι αὐτὸν τῇ ἀρχῇ καὶ τῇ ἐξουσίᾳ τοῦ ἡγεμόνος.

Phonetic (Greek): kai eperotesan ayton legontes· Didaskale, oidamen hoti orthos legeis kai didaskeis kai oy lambaneis prosopon, allʼ epʼ aletheias ten hodon toy theoy didaskeis·
Edified Edition (EDE)And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that you say and teachest rightly, neither acceptest you the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:

καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν λέγοντες· Διδάσκαλε, οἴδαμεν ὅτι ὀρθῶς λέγεις καὶ διδάσκεις καὶ οὐ λαμβάνεις πρόσωπον, ἀλλʼ ἐπʼ ἀληθείας τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ θεοῦ διδάσκεις·

Phonetic (Greek): exestin ⸀hemas Kaisari phoron doynai e oy;
Edified Edition (EDE)Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or no?

ἔξεστιν ⸀ἡμᾶς Καίσαρι φόρον δοῦναι ἢ οὔ;

Phonetic (Greek): katanoesas de ayton ten panourgian eipen pros ⸀aytoys·
Edified Edition (EDE)But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, Why tempt you me?

κατανοήσας δὲ αὐτῶν τὴν πανουργίαν εἶπεν πρὸς ⸀αὐτούς·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀Deixate moi denarion· tinos echei eikona kai epigraphen; ⸀apokrithentes de eipan· Kaisaros.
Edified Edition (EDE)show me a penny. Whose image and superscription has it? They answered and said, Caesar’s.

⸀Δείξατέ μοι δηνάριον· τίνος ἔχει εἰκόνα καὶ ἐπιγραφήν; ⸀ἀποκριθέντες δὲ εἶπαν· Καίσαρος.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de eipen ⸂pros aytoys· Toinyn apodote⸃ ta Kaisaros Kaisari kai ta toy theoy tῷ theῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said to them, [JESUS]"Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s."[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ εἶπεν ⸂πρὸς αὐτούς· Τοίνυν ἀπόδοτε⸃ τὰ Καίσαρος Καίσαρι καὶ τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ τῷ θεῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai oyk ischysan epilabesthai ⸀toy ῥematos enantion toy laoy, kai thaumasantes epi tῇ apokrisei aytoy esigesan.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.

καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν ἐπιλαβέσθαι ⸀τοῦ ῥήματος ἐναντίον τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ θαυμάσαντες ἐπὶ τῇ ἀποκρίσει αὐτοῦ ἐσίγησαν.

Edified Edition (EDE)Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, who deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,

Προσελθόντες δέ τινες τῶν Σαδδουκαίων, οἱ ⸀ἀντιλέγοντες ἀνάστασιν μὴ εἶναι, ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν

Phonetic (Greek): legontes· Didaskale, Moyses egrapsen hemin, ean tinos adelphos apothanῃ echon gynaika, kai ohytos ateknos ⸀e, hina labῃ ho adelphos aytoy ten gynaika kai exanastesῃ sperma tῷ adelphῷ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Saying, Master, Moses wrote to us, If any man’s brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.

λέγοντες· Διδάσκαλε, Μωϋσῆς ἔγραψεν ἡμῖν, ἐάν τινος ἀδελφὸς ἀποθάνῃ ἔχων γυναῖκα, καὶ οὗτος ἄτεκνος ⸀ᾖ, ἵνα λάβῃ ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ ἐξαναστήσῃ σπέρμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): hepta oyn adelphoi esan· kai ho protos labon gynaika apethanen ateknos·
Edified Edition (EDE)There were therefore seven brothers: and the first took a wife, and died without children.

ἑπτὰ οὖν ἀδελφοὶ ἦσαν· καὶ ὁ πρῶτος λαβὼν γυναῖκα ἀπέθανεν ἄτεκνος·

Edified Edition (EDE)And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.

καὶ ⸂ὁ δεύτερος⸃

Edified Edition (EDE)And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.

καὶ ὁ τρίτος ἔλαβεν ⸀αὐτήν, ὡσαύτως δὲ καὶ οἱ ἑπτὰ οὐ κατέλιπον τέκνα καὶ ἀπέθανον·

Edified Edition (EDE)Last of all the woman died also.

ὕστερον ⸂καὶ ἡ γυνὴ ἀπέθανεν⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂he gyne oyn en tῇ⸃ anastasei tinos ayton ginetai gyne; ohi gar hepta eschon ayten gynaika.
Edified Edition (EDE)Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.

⸂ἡ γυνὴ οὖν ἐν τῇ⸃ ἀναστάσει τίνος αὐτῶν γίνεται γυνή; οἱ γὰρ ἑπτὰ ἔσχον αὐτὴν γυναῖκα.

Edified Edition (EDE)And Jesus answering said to them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:

⸀Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ αἰῶνος τούτου γαμοῦσιν καὶ ⸀γαμίσκονται,

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de kataxiothentes toy aionos ekeinou tychein kai tes anastaseos tes ek nekron oyte gamoysin oyte ⸀gamizontai·
Edified Edition (EDE)But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:

οἱ δὲ καταξιωθέντες τοῦ αἰῶνος ἐκείνου τυχεῖν καὶ τῆς ἀναστάσεως τῆς ἐκ νεκρῶν οὔτε γαμοῦσιν οὔτε ⸀γαμίζονται·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀oyde gar apothanein eti dynantai, isangeloi gar eisin kai yhioi ⸀eisin theoy tes anastaseos yhioi ontes.
Edified Edition (EDE)Neither can they die any more: for they are equal to the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

⸀οὐδὲ γὰρ ἀποθανεῖν ἔτι δύνανται, ἰσάγγελοι γάρ εἰσιν καὶ υἱοί ⸀εἰσιν θεοῦ τῆς ἀναστάσεως υἱοὶ ὄντες.

Phonetic (Greek): hoti de egeirontai ohi nekroi kai Moyses emenysen epi tes batou, hos legei kyrion ton theon Ἀbraam ⸀kai theon Ἰsaak ⸁kai theon Ἰakob·
Edified Edition (EDE)Now that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

ὅτι δὲ ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροὶ καὶ Μωϋσῆς ἐμήνυσεν ἐπὶ τῆς βάτου, ὡς λέγει κύριον τὸν θεὸν Ἀβραὰμ ⸀καὶ θεὸν Ἰσαὰκ ⸁καὶ θεὸν Ἰακώβ·

Phonetic (Greek): theos de oyk estin nekron alla zonton, pantes gar aytῷ zosin.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For He is not the God of the dead but of the living, for all live to Him."[/JESUS]

θεὸς δὲ οὐκ ἔστιν νεκρῶν ἀλλὰ ζώντων, πάντες γὰρ αὐτῷ ζῶσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): apokrithentes de tines ton grammateon eipan· Didaskale, kalos eipas·
Edified Edition (EDE)Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, you have well said.

ἀποκριθέντες δέ τινες τῶν γραμματέων εἶπαν· Διδάσκαλε, καλῶς εἶπας·

Phonetic (Greek): oyketi ⸀gar etolmon eperotan ayton oyden.
Edified Edition (EDE)And after that they dared not ask him any question at all.

οὐκέτι ⸀γὰρ ἐτόλμων ἐπερωτᾶν αὐτὸν οὐδέν.

Phonetic (Greek): Eipen de pros aytoys· Pos legousin ton christon ⸂einai Dauid yhion⸃;
Edified Edition (EDE)And he said to them, How say they that Christ is David’s son?

Εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς· Πῶς λέγουσιν τὸν χριστὸν ⸂εἶναι Δαυὶδ υἱόν⸃;

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂aytos gar⸃ Dauid legei en biblῳ psalmon· ⸀Eipen kyrios tῷ kyriῳ mou· Kathou ek dexion mou
Edified Edition (EDE)And David himself says in the book of Psalms, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit you on my right hand,

⸂αὐτὸς γὰρ⸃ Δαυὶδ λέγει ἐν βίβλῳ ψαλμῶν· ⸀Εἶπεν κύριος τῷ κυρίῳ μου· Κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου

Edified Edition (EDE)Till I make your enemies your footstool.

ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν σου.

Phonetic (Greek): Dauid oyn ⸂ayton kyrion⸃ kalei, kai pos ⸂aytoy yhios⸃ estin;
Edified Edition (EDE)David therefore calls him Lord, how is he then his son?

Δαυὶδ οὖν ⸂αὐτὸν κύριον⸃ καλεῖ, καὶ πῶς ⸂αὐτοῦ υἱός⸃ ἐστιν;

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀkoyontos de pantos toy laoy eipen tois ⸀mathetais·
Edified Edition (EDE)Then in the audience of all the people he said to his disciples,

Ἀκούοντος δὲ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ εἶπεν τοῖς ⸀μαθηταῖς·

Phonetic (Greek): Prosechete apo ton grammateon ton thelonton peripatein en stolais kai philoynton aspasmoys en tais agorais kai protokathedrias en tais synagogais kai protoklisias en tois deipnois,
Edified Edition (EDE)Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;

Προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῶν γραμματέων τῶν θελόντων περιπατεῖν ἐν στολαῖς καὶ φιλούντων ἀσπασμοὺς ἐν ταῖς ἀγοραῖς καὶ πρωτοκαθεδρίας ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς καὶ πρωτοκλισίας ἐν τοῖς δείπνοις,

Phonetic (Greek): ohi katesthiousin tas oikias ton cheron kai prophasei makra proseychontai· ohytoi lempsontai perissoteron krima.
