Chapter 24
1
Phonetic (Greek): tῇ de miᾷ ton sabbaton orthrou batheos ⸂epi to mnema elthon⸃ pherousai ha hetoimasan ⸀aromata.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.

τῇ δὲ μιᾷ τῶν σαββάτων ὄρθρου βαθέως ⸂ἐπὶ τὸ μνῆμα ἦλθον⸃ φέρουσαι ἃ ἡτοίμασαν ⸀ἀρώματα.

Phonetic (Greek): ehyron de ton lithon apokekylismenon apo toy mnemeiou,
Edified Edition (EDE)And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.

εὗρον δὲ τὸν λίθον ἀποκεκυλισμένον ἀπὸ τοῦ μνημείου,

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂eiselthoysai de⸃ oych ehyron to ⸀soma.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

⸂εἰσελθοῦσαι δὲ⸃ οὐχ εὗρον τὸ ⸀σῶμα.

Phonetic (Greek): kai egeneto en tῷ ⸀aporeisthai aytas peri toytou kai idoy andres dyo epestesan aytais en ⸂estheti astraptoysῃ⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:

καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ⸀ἀπορεῖσθαι αὐτὰς περὶ τούτου καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνδρες δύο ἐπέστησαν αὐταῖς ἐν ⸂ἐσθῆτι ἀστραπτούσῃ⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): emphobon de genomenon ayton kai klinouson ⸂ta prosopa⸃ eis ten gen eipan pros aytas· Ti zeteite ton zonta meta ton nekron;
Edified Edition (EDE)And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said to them, Why seek you the living among the dead?

ἐμφόβων δὲ γενομένων αὐτῶν καὶ κλινουσῶν ⸂τὰ πρόσωπα⸃ εἰς τὴν γῆν εἶπαν πρὸς αὐτάς· Τί ζητεῖτε τὸν ζῶντα μετὰ τῶν νεκρῶν;

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂oyk estin hode, alla egerthe.⸃ mnesthete hos elalesen hymin eti on en tῇ Galilaiᾳ,
Edified Edition (EDE)"He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee,"

⸂οὐκ ἔστιν ὧδε, ἀλλὰ ἠγέρθη.⸃ μνήσθητε ὡς ἐλάλησεν ὑμῖν ἔτι ὢν ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ,

Phonetic (Greek): legon ⸂ton yhion toy anthropou hoti dei⸃ paradothenai eis cheiras anthropon hamartolon kai staurothenai kai tῇ tritῃ hemerᾳ anastenai.
Edified Edition (EDE)Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

λέγων ⸂τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ὅτι δεῖ⸃ παραδοθῆναι εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων ἁμαρτωλῶν καὶ σταυρωθῆναι καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἀναστῆναι.

Phonetic (Greek): kai emnesthesan ton ῥematon aytoy,
Edified Edition (EDE)And they remembered his words,

καὶ ἐμνήσθησαν τῶν ῥημάτων αὐτοῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): kai hypostrepsasai apo toy mnemeiou apengeilan tayta panta tois hendeka kai pasin tois loipois.
Edified Edition (EDE)And returned from the tomb, and told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest.

καὶ ὑποστρέψασαι ἀπὸ τοῦ μνημείου ἀπήγγειλαν ταῦτα πάντα τοῖς ἕνδεκα καὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς λοιποῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): esan de he Magdalene Maria kai Ἰoanna kai Maria ⸀he Ἰakobou kai ahi loipai syn aytais· ⸀elegon pros toys apostolous tayta.
Edified Edition (EDE)It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, who told these things to the apostles.

ἦσαν δὲ ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ Μαρία καὶ Ἰωάννα καὶ Μαρία ⸀ἡ Ἰακώβου καὶ αἱ λοιπαὶ σὺν αὐταῖς· ⸀ἔλεγον πρὸς τοὺς ἀποστόλους ταῦτα.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ephanesan enopion ayton hosei leros ta ῥemata ⸀tayta, kai epistoun aytais.
Edified Edition (EDE)And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.

καὶ ἐφάνησαν ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν ὡσεὶ λῆρος τὰ ῥήματα ⸀ταῦτα, καὶ ἠπίστουν αὐταῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂Ὁ de Petros anastas edramen epi to mnemeion· kai parakypsas blepei ta ⸀othonia mona· kai apelthen pros ⸀ahyton thaumazon to gegonos.⸃
Edified Edition (EDE)Then arose Peter, and ran to the tomb; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

⸂Ὁ δὲ Πέτρος ἀναστὰς ἔδραμεν ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον· καὶ παρακύψας βλέπει τὰ ⸀ὀθόνια μόνα· καὶ ἀπῆλθεν πρὸς ⸀αὑτὸν θαυμάζων τὸ γεγονός.⸃

Phonetic (Greek): Kai idoy dyo ex ayton ⸂en aytῇ tῇ hemerᾳ esan poreuomenoi⸃ eis komen apechousan stadious hexekonta apo Ἰerousalem, he onoma Ἐmmaoys,
Edified Edition (EDE)And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, who was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.

Καὶ ἰδοὺ δύο ἐξ αὐτῶν ⸂ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἦσαν πορευόμενοι⸃ εἰς κώμην ἀπέχουσαν σταδίους ἑξήκοντα ἀπὸ Ἰερουσαλήμ, ᾗ ὄνομα Ἐμμαοῦς,

Phonetic (Greek): kai aytoi homiloun pros allelous peri panton ton symbebekoton toyton.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they talked together of all these things which had happened.

καὶ αὐτοὶ ὡμίλουν πρὸς ἀλλήλους περὶ πάντων τῶν συμβεβηκότων τούτων.

Phonetic (Greek): kai egeneto en tῷ homilein aytoys kai syzetein kai ⸀aytos Ἰesoys engisas syneporeyeto aytois,
Edified Edition (EDE)And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.

καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ὁμιλεῖν αὐτοὺς καὶ συζητεῖν καὶ ⸀αὐτὸς Ἰησοῦς ἐγγίσας συνεπορεύετο αὐτοῖς,

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de ophthalmoi ayton ekratoynto toy me epignonai ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.

οἱ δὲ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτῶν ἐκρατοῦντο τοῦ μὴ ἐπιγνῶναι αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): eipen de pros aytoys· Tines ohi logoi ohytoi ohys antiballete pros allelous peripatoyntes; kai ⸀estathesan skythropoi.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he said to them, What manner of communications are these that you have one to another, as you walk, and are sad?

εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς· Τίνες οἱ λόγοι οὗτοι οὓς ἀντιβάλλετε πρὸς ἀλλήλους περιπατοῦντες; καὶ ⸀ἐστάθησαν σκυθρωποί.

Phonetic (Greek): apokritheis de ⸂ehis onomati⸃ Kleopas eipen pros ayton· Sy monos paroikeis Ἰerousalem kai oyk egnos ta genomena en aytῇ en tais hemerais taytais;
Edified Edition (EDE)And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said to him, are you only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?

ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ⸂εἷς ὀνόματι⸃ Κλεοπᾶς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν· Σὺ μόνος παροικεῖς Ἰερουσαλὴμ καὶ οὐκ ἔγνως τὰ γενόμενα ἐν αὐτῇ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ταύταις;

Phonetic (Greek): kai eipen aytois· Poia; ohi de eipan aytῷ· Ta peri Ἰesoy toy ⸀Nazarenoy, hos egeneto aner prophetes dynatos en ergῳ kai logῳ enantion toy theoy kai pantos toy laoy,
Edified Edition (EDE)And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ποῖα; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Τὰ περὶ Ἰησοῦ τοῦ ⸀Ναζαρηνοῦ, ὃς ἐγένετο ἀνὴρ προφήτης δυνατὸς ἐν ἔργῳ καὶ λόγῳ ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): hopos te paredokan ayton ohi archiereis kai ohi archontes hemon eis krima thanatou kai estayrosan ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.

ὅπως τε παρέδωκαν αὐτὸν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες ἡμῶν εἰς κρίμα θανάτου καὶ ἐσταύρωσαν αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): hemeis de elpizomen hoti aytos estin ho mellon lytroysthai ton Ἰsrael· alla ge ⸀kai syn pasin toytois triten tayten hemeran ⸀agei aphʼ ohy tayta egeneto.
Edified Edition (EDE)But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, today is the third day since these things were done.

ἡμεῖς δὲ ἠλπίζομεν ὅτι αὐτός ἐστιν ὁ μέλλων λυτροῦσθαι τὸν Ἰσραήλ· ἀλλά γε ⸀καὶ σὺν πᾶσιν τούτοις τρίτην ταύτην ἡμέραν ⸀ἄγει ἀφʼ οὗ ταῦτα ἐγένετο.

Phonetic (Greek): alla kai gynaikes tines ex hemon exestesan hemas, genomenai ⸀orthrinai epi to mnemeion
Edified Edition (EDE)yes, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, who were early at the tomb;

ἀλλὰ καὶ γυναῖκές τινες ἐξ ἡμῶν ἐξέστησαν ἡμᾶς, γενόμεναι ⸀ὀρθριναὶ ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον

Phonetic (Greek): kai me ehyroysai to soma aytoy elthon legousai kai optasian angelon heorakenai, ohi legousin ayton zen.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.

καὶ μὴ εὑροῦσαι τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ ἦλθον λέγουσαι καὶ ὀπτασίαν ἀγγέλων ἑωρακέναι, οἳ λέγουσιν αὐτὸν ζῆν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai apelthon tines ton syn hemin epi to mnemeion, kai ehyron ohytos kathos ⸀kai ahi gynaikes eipon, ayton de oyk eidon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And certain of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.

καὶ ἀπῆλθόν τινες τῶν σὺν ἡμῖν ἐπὶ τὸ μνημεῖον, καὶ εὗρον οὕτως καθὼς ⸀καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες εἶπον, αὐτὸν δὲ οὐκ εἶδον.

Phonetic (Greek): kai aytos eipen pros aytoys· Ὦ anoetoi kai bradeis tῇ kardiᾳ toy pisteyein epi pasin ohis elalesan ohi prophetai·
Edified Edition (EDE)Then he said to them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

καὶ αὐτὸς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Ὦ ἀνόητοι καὶ βραδεῖς τῇ καρδίᾳ τοῦ πιστεύειν ἐπὶ πᾶσιν οἷς ἐλάλησαν οἱ προφῆται·

Phonetic (Greek): oychi tayta edei pathein ton christon kai eiselthein eis ten doxan aytoy;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?"[/JESUS]

οὐχὶ ταῦτα ἔδει παθεῖν τὸν χριστὸν καὶ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ;

Phonetic (Greek): kai arxamenos apo Moyseos kai apo panton ton propheton ⸀diermeneusen aytois en pasais tais graphais ta peri ⸀heautoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

καὶ ἀρξάμενος ἀπὸ Μωϋσέως καὶ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν προφητῶν ⸀διερμήνευσεν αὐτοῖς ἐν πάσαις ταῖς γραφαῖς τὰ περὶ ⸀ἑαυτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai engisan eis ten komen ohy eporeyonto, kai aytos ⸀prosepoiesato ⸀porroteron poreyesthai.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they drew nigh to the village, Where they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.

Καὶ ἤγγισαν εἰς τὴν κώμην οὗ ἐπορεύοντο, καὶ αὐτὸς ⸀προσεποιήσατο ⸀πορρώτερον πορεύεσθαι.

Phonetic (Greek): kai parebiasanto ayton legontes· Meinon methʼ hemon, hoti pros hesperan estin kai kekliken ⸀ede he hemera. kai eiselthen toy meinai syn aytois.
Edified Edition (EDE)But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.

καὶ παρεβιάσαντο αὐτὸν λέγοντες· Μεῖνον μεθʼ ἡμῶν, ὅτι πρὸς ἑσπέραν ἐστὶν καὶ κέκλικεν ⸀ἤδη ἡ ἡμέρα. καὶ εἰσῆλθεν τοῦ μεῖναι σὺν αὐτοῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): kai egeneto en tῷ kataklithenai ayton metʼ ayton labon ton arton eylogesen kai klasas epedidou aytois·
Edified Edition (EDE)And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.

καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ κατακλιθῆναι αὐτὸν μετʼ αὐτῶν λαβὼν τὸν ἄρτον εὐλόγησεν καὶ κλάσας ἐπεδίδου αὐτοῖς·

Phonetic (Greek): ayton de dienoichthesan ohi ophthalmoi kai epegnosan ayton· kai aytos aphantos egeneto apʼ ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

αὐτῶν δὲ διηνοίχθησαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ καὶ ἐπέγνωσαν αὐτόν· καὶ αὐτὸς ἄφαντος ἐγένετο ἀπʼ αὐτῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai eipan pros allelous· Oychi he kardia hemon kaiomene en ⸂en hemin⸃ hos elalei hemin en tῇ hodῷ, ⸀hos dienoigen hemin tas graphas;
Edified Edition (EDE)And they said to one another, "Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?"

καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς ἀλλήλους· Οὐχὶ ἡ καρδία ἡμῶν καιομένη ἦν ⸂ἐν ἡμῖν⸃ ὡς ἐλάλει ἡμῖν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ, ⸀ὡς διήνοιγεν ἡμῖν τὰς γραφάς;

Phonetic (Greek): kai anastantes aytῇ tῇ horᾳ hypestrepsan eis Ἰerousalem, kai ehyron ⸀ethroismenous toys hendeka kai toys syn aytois,
Edified Edition (EDE)And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,

καὶ ἀναστάντες αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ, καὶ εὗρον ⸀ἠθροισμένους τοὺς ἕνδεκα καὶ τοὺς σὺν αὐτοῖς,

Phonetic (Greek): legontas hoti ⸂ontos egerthe ho kyrios⸃ kai ophthe Simoni.
Edified Edition (EDE)saying, "The LORD is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!"

λέγοντας ὅτι ⸂ὄντως ἠγέρθη ὁ κύριος⸃ καὶ ὤφθη Σίμωνι.

Phonetic (Greek): kai aytoi exegoynto ta en tῇ hodῷ kai hos egnosthe aytois en tῇ klasei toy artou.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

καὶ αὐτοὶ ἐξηγοῦντο τὰ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ καὶ ὡς ἐγνώσθη αὐτοῖς ἐν τῇ κλάσει τοῦ ἄρτου.

Phonetic (Greek): Tayta de ayton laloynton ⸀aytos este en mesῳ ⸀ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, [JESUS]"Peace to you."[/JESUS]

Ταῦτα δὲ αὐτῶν λαλούντων ⸀αὐτὸς ἔστη ἐν μέσῳ ⸀αὐτῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): ptoethentes de kai emphoboi genomenoi edokoun pneyma theorein.
Edified Edition (EDE)But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.

πτοηθέντες δὲ καὶ ἔμφοβοι γενόμενοι ἐδόκουν πνεῦμα θεωρεῖν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai eipen aytois· Ti tetaragmenoi este, kai dia ti dialogismoi anabainousin en ⸂tῇ kardiᾳ⸃ hymon;
Edified Edition (EDE)And he said to them, Why are you troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τί τεταραγμένοι ἐστέ, καὶ διὰ τί διαλογισμοὶ ἀναβαίνουσιν ἐν ⸂τῇ καρδίᾳ⸃ ὑμῶν;

Phonetic (Greek): idete tas cheiras mou kai toys podas mou hoti ⸂ego eimi aytos⸃· pselaphesate me kai idete, hoti pneyma sarka kai ostea oyk echei kathos eme theoreite echonta.
Edified Edition (EDE)Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones, as you see me have.

ἴδετε τὰς χεῖράς μου καὶ τοὺς πόδας μου ὅτι ⸂ἐγώ εἰμι αὐτός⸃· ψηλαφήσατέ με καὶ ἴδετε, ὅτι πνεῦμα σάρκα καὶ ὀστέα οὐκ ἔχει καθὼς ἐμὲ θεωρεῖτε ἔχοντα.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂[kai toyto eipon ⸀edeixen aytois tas cheiras kai toys podas.]⸃
Edified Edition (EDE)And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet.

⸂[καὶ τοῦτο εἰπὼν ⸀ἔδειξεν αὐτοῖς τὰς χεῖρας καὶ τοὺς πόδας.]⸃

Phonetic (Greek): eti de apistoynton ayton apo tes charas kai thaumazonton eipen aytois· Ἔchete ti brosimon enthade;
Edified Edition (EDE)And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said to them, Have you here any meat?

ἔτι δὲ ἀπιστούντων αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῆς χαρᾶς καὶ θαυμαζόντων εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ἔχετέ τι βρώσιμον ἐνθάδε;

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de epedokan aytῷ ichthyos optoy ⸀meros·
Edified Edition (EDE)And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

οἱ δὲ ἐπέδωκαν αὐτῷ ἰχθύος ὀπτοῦ ⸀μέρος·

Phonetic (Greek): kai labon enopion ayton ephagen.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he took it, and did eat before them.

καὶ λαβὼν ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν ἔφαγεν.

Phonetic (Greek): Eipen de ⸂pros aytoys⸃· Ohytoi ohi logoi ⸀mou ohys elalesa pros hymas eti on syn hymin, hoti dei plerothenai panta ta gegrammena en tῷ nomῳ Moyseos ⸀kai prophetais kai psalmois peri emoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then He said to them, [JESUS]"These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me."[/JESUS]

Εἶπεν δὲ ⸂πρὸς αὐτούς⸃· Οὗτοι οἱ λόγοι ⸀μου οὓς ἐλάλησα πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἔτι ὢν σὺν ὑμῖν, ὅτι δεῖ πληρωθῆναι πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα ἐν τῷ νόμῳ Μωϋσέως ⸀καὶ προφήταις καὶ ψαλμοῖς περὶ ἐμοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): tote dienoixen ayton ton noyn toy synienai tas graphas,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

τότε διήνοιξεν αὐτῶν τὸν νοῦν τοῦ συνιέναι τὰς γραφάς,

Phonetic (Greek): kai eipen aytois hoti ohytos ⸀gegraptai pathein ton christon kai anastenai ek nekron tῇ tritῃ hemerᾳ,
Edified Edition (EDE)Then He said to them, [JESUS]"Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,"[/JESUS]
