Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.

Ἰησοῦς δὲ ⸂πλήρης πνεύματος ἁγίου⸃ ὑπέστρεψεν ἀπὸ τοῦ Ἰορδάνου, καὶ ἤγετο ἐν τῷ πνεύματι ⸂ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ⸃

Phonetic (Greek): hemeras tesserakonta peirazomenos hypo toy diabolou. kai oyk ephagen oyden en tais hemerais ekeinais, kai syntelestheison ⸀ayton epeinasen.
Edified Edition (EDE)Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.

ἡμέρας τεσσεράκοντα πειραζόμενος ὑπὸ τοῦ διαβόλου. καὶ οὐκ ἔφαγεν οὐδὲν ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις, καὶ συντελεσθεισῶν ⸀αὐτῶν ἐπείνασεν.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂eipen de⸃ aytῷ ho diabolos· Ei yhios ei toy theoy, eipe tῷ lithῳ toytῳ hina genetai artos.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the devil said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread."

⸂εἶπεν δὲ⸃ αὐτῷ ὁ διάβολος· Εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ, εἰπὲ τῷ λίθῳ τούτῳ ἵνα γένηται ἄρτος.

Phonetic (Greek): kai apekrithe ⸂pros ayton ho Ἰesoys⸃· Gegraptai hoti Oyk epʼ artῳ monῳ zesetai ⸀ho ⸀anthropos.
Edified Edition (EDE)But Jesus answered him, saying, [JESUS]"It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.'"[/JESUS]

καὶ ἀπεκρίθη ⸂πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ Ἰησοῦς⸃· Γέγραπται ὅτι Οὐκ ἐπʼ ἄρτῳ μόνῳ ζήσεται ⸀ὁ ⸀ἄνθρωπος.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai anagagon ⸀ayton edeixen aytῷ pasas tas basileias tes oikoumenes en stigmῇ chronou·
Edified Edition (EDE)And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, showed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

Καὶ ἀναγαγὼν ⸀αὐτὸν ἔδειξεν αὐτῷ πάσας τὰς βασιλείας τῆς οἰκουμένης ἐν στιγμῇ χρόνου·

Phonetic (Greek): kai eipen aytῷ ho diabolos· Soi doso ten exousian tayten hapasan kai ten doxan ayton, hoti emoi paradedotai kai ho ⸀an thelo didomi ayten·
Edified Edition (EDE)And the devil said to Him, "All this power will I give you, and the glory of them: for that is delivered to me; and to whomsoever I will I give it."

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ διάβολος· Σοὶ δώσω τὴν ἐξουσίαν ταύτην ἅπασαν καὶ τὴν δόξαν αὐτῶν, ὅτι ἐμοὶ παραδέδοται καὶ ᾧ ⸀ἂν θέλω δίδωμι αὐτήν·

Phonetic (Greek): sy oyn ean proskynesῃs enopion emoy, estai soy pasa.
Edified Edition (EDE)"If you therefore will worship me, all shall be yours."

σὺ οὖν ἐὰν προσκυνήσῃς ἐνώπιον ἐμοῦ, ἔσται σοῦ πᾶσα.

Phonetic (Greek): kai apokritheis ⸂ho Ἰesoys eipen aytῷ⸃· Gegraptai· ⸂Kyrion ton theon sou proskyneseis⸃ kai aytῷ monῳ latreyseis.
Edified Edition (EDE)And Jesus answered and said to him, [JESUS]"Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.'"[/JESUS]

καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ⸂ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ⸃· Γέγραπται· ⸂Κύριον τὸν θεόν σου προσκυνήσεις⸃ καὶ αὐτῷ μόνῳ λατρεύσεις.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂Ἤgagen de⸃ ayton eis Ἰerousalem kai ⸀estesen epi to pterygion toy hieroy, kai eipen aytῷ· Ei yhios ei toy theoy, bale seauton enteythen kato·
Edified Edition (EDE)And he brought Him to Jerusalem, and set Him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from hence:"

⸂Ἤγαγεν δὲ⸃ αὐτὸν εἰς Ἰερουσαλὴμ καὶ ⸀ἔστησεν ἐπὶ τὸ πτερύγιον τοῦ ἱεροῦ, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ, βάλε σεαυτὸν ἐντεῦθεν κάτω·

Phonetic (Greek): gegraptai gar hoti Tois angelois aytoy enteleitai peri soy toy diaphylaxai se,
Edified Edition (EDE)"For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you:"

γέγραπται γὰρ ὅτι Τοῖς ἀγγέλοις αὐτοῦ ἐντελεῖται περὶ σοῦ τοῦ διαφυλάξαι σε,

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀hoti Ἐpi cheiron aroysin se mepote proskopsῃs pros lithon ton poda sou.
Edified Edition (EDE)"And in their hands they shall bear you up, lest at any time you dash your foot against a stone."

καὶ ⸀ὅτι Ἐπὶ χειρῶν ἀροῦσίν σε μήποτε προσκόψῃς πρὸς λίθον τὸν πόδα σου.

Edified Edition (EDE)And Jesus answered and said to him, [JESUS]"It has been said, 'You shall not tempt the LORD your God.'"[/JESUS]

καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ὅτι Εἴρηται· Οὐκ ἐκπειράσεις κύριον τὸν θεόν σου.

Phonetic (Greek): kai syntelesas panta peirasmon ho diabolos apeste apʼ aytoy achri kairoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

καὶ συντελέσας πάντα πειρασμὸν ὁ διάβολος ἀπέστη ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ ἄχρι καιροῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai hypestrepsen ho Ἰesoys en tῇ dynamei toy pneymatos eis ten Galilaian. kai pheme exelthen kathʼ holes tes perichorou peri aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

Καὶ ὑπέστρεψεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐν τῇ δυνάμει τοῦ πνεύματος εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν. καὶ φήμη ἐξῆλθεν καθʼ ὅλης τῆς περιχώρου περὶ αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai aytos edidasken en tais synagogais ayton, doxazomenos hypo panton.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

καὶ αὐτὸς ἐδίδασκεν ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς αὐτῶν, δοξαζόμενος ὑπὸ πάντων.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai elthen ⸀eis Nazara, ohy en tethrammenos, kai eiselthen kata to eiothos aytῷ en tῇ hemerᾳ ton sabbaton eis ten synagogen, kai aneste anagnonai.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

Καὶ ἦλθεν ⸀εἰς Ναζαρά, οὗ ἦν τεθραμμένος, καὶ εἰσῆλθεν κατὰ τὸ εἰωθὸς αὐτῷ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῶν σαββάτων εἰς τὴν συναγωγήν, καὶ ἀνέστη ἀναγνῶναι.

Edified Edition (EDE)And there was delivered to him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

καὶ ἐπεδόθη αὐτῷ βιβλίον ⸂τοῦ προφήτου Ἠσαΐου⸃ καὶ ⸀ἀναπτύξας τὸ βιβλίον εὗρεν τὸν τόπον οὗ ἦν γεγραμμένον·

Phonetic (Greek): Pneyma kyriou epʼ eme, ohy ehineken echrisen me eyangelisasthai ptochois, apestalken ⸀me keryxai aichmalotois aphesin kai typhlois anablepsin, aposteilai tethrausmenous en aphesei,
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed;"[/JESUS]

Πνεῦμα κυρίου ἐπʼ ἐμέ, οὗ εἵνεκεν ἔχρισέν με εὐαγγελίσασθαι πτωχοῖς, ἀπέσταλκέν ⸀με κηρύξαι αἰχμαλώτοις ἄφεσιν καὶ τυφλοῖς ἀνάβλεψιν, ἀποστεῖλαι τεθραυσμένους ἐν ἀφέσει,

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD."[/JESUS]

κηρύξαι ἐνιαυτὸν κυρίου δεκτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ptyxas to biblion apodoys tῷ hyperetῃ ekathisen· kai panton ⸂ohi ophthalmoi en tῇ synagogῇ⸃ esan atenizontes aytῷ.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

καὶ πτύξας τὸ βιβλίον ἀποδοὺς τῷ ὑπηρέτῃ ἐκάθισεν· καὶ πάντων ⸂οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ⸃ ἦσαν ἀτενίζοντες αὐτῷ.

Phonetic (Greek): erxato de legein pros aytoys hoti Semeron peplerotai he graphe ahyte en tois osin hymon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And He began to say to them, [JESUS]"Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."[/JESUS]

ἤρξατο δὲ λέγειν πρὸς αὐτοὺς ὅτι Σήμερον πεπλήρωται ἡ γραφὴ αὕτη ἐν τοῖς ὠσὶν ὑμῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai pantes emartyroun aytῷ kai ethaymazon epi tois logois tes charitos tois ekporeuomenois ek toy stomatos aytoy, kai elegon· ⸂Oychi yhios estin Ἰoseph ohytos⸃;
Edified Edition (EDE)And all bare Him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, "Is not this Joseph’s son?"

καὶ πάντες ἐμαρτύρουν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐθαύμαζον ἐπὶ τοῖς λόγοις τῆς χάριτος τοῖς ἐκπορευομένοις ἐκ τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔλεγον· ⸂Οὐχὶ υἱός ἐστιν Ἰωσὴφ οὗτος⸃;

Phonetic (Greek): kai eipen pros aytoys· Pantos ereite moi ten parabolen tayten· Ἰatre, therapeuson seauton· hosa ekoysamen genomena ⸂eis ten Kapharnaoym⸃ poieson kai hode en tῇ patridi sou.
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said to them, [JESUS]"You will surely say to Me this proverb, Physician, heal yourself: whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in your country."[/JESUS]

καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Πάντως ἐρεῖτέ μοι τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην· Ἰατρέ, θεράπευσον σεαυτόν· ὅσα ἠκούσαμεν γενόμενα ⸂εἰς τὴν Καφαρναοὺμ⸃ ποίησον καὶ ὧδε ἐν τῇ πατρίδι σου.

Phonetic (Greek): eipen de· Ἀmen lego hymin hoti oydeis prophetes dektos estin en tῇ patridi aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then He said, [JESUS]"Assuredly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own hometown."[/JESUS]

εἶπεν δέ· Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδεὶς προφήτης δεκτός ἐστιν ἐν τῇ πατρίδι αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): epʼ aletheias de lego hymin, pollai cherai esan en tais hemerais Ἠliou en tῷ Ἰsrael, hote ekleisthe ho oyranos ⸀epi ete tria kai menas hex, hos egeneto limos megas epi pasan ten gen,
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;"[/JESUS]

ἐπʼ ἀληθείας δὲ λέγω ὑμῖν, πολλαὶ χῆραι ἦσαν ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις Ἠλίου ἐν τῷ Ἰσραήλ, ὅτε ἐκλείσθη ὁ οὐρανὸς ⸀ἐπὶ ἔτη τρία καὶ μῆνας ἕξ, ὡς ἐγένετο λιμὸς μέγας ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν,

Phonetic (Greek): kai pros oydemian ayton epemphthe Ἠlias ei me eis Sarepta tes ⸀Sidonias pros gynaika cheran.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But to none of them was Elias sent, save to Sarepta, a city of Sidon, to a woman that was a widow."[/JESUS]

καὶ πρὸς οὐδεμίαν αὐτῶν ἐπέμφθη Ἠλίας εἰ μὴ εἰς Σάρεπτα τῆς ⸀Σιδωνίας πρὸς γυναῖκα χήραν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai polloi leproi esan ⸂en tῷ Ἰsrael epi Ἐlisaiou toy prophetou⸃, kai oydeis ayton ekatharisthe, ei me Naiman ho Syros.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian."[/JESUS]

καὶ πολλοὶ λεπροὶ ἦσαν ⸂ἐν τῷ Ἰσραὴλ ἐπὶ Ἐλισαίου τοῦ προφήτου⸃, καὶ οὐδεὶς αὐτῶν ἐκαθαρίσθη, εἰ μὴ Ναιμὰν ὁ Σύρος.

Edified Edition (EDE)And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,

καὶ ἐπλήσθησαν πάντες θυμοῦ ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ ἀκούοντες ταῦτα,

Phonetic (Greek): kai anastantes exebalon ayton exo tes poleos, kai egagon ayton heos ophryos toy orous ephʼ ohy he polis ⸂okodometo ayton, hoste⸃ katakremnisai ayton·
Edified Edition (EDE)And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong.

καὶ ἀναστάντες ἐξέβαλον αὐτὸν ἔξω τῆς πόλεως, καὶ ἤγαγον αὐτὸν ἕως ὀφρύος τοῦ ὄρους ἐφʼ οὗ ἡ πόλις ⸂ᾠκοδόμητο αὐτῶν, ὥστε⸃ κατακρημνίσαι αὐτόν·

Edified Edition (EDE)But he passing through the midst of them went his way,

αὐτὸς δὲ διελθὼν διὰ μέσου αὐτῶν ἐπορεύετο.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai katelthen eis Kapharnaoym polin tes Galilaias. kai en didaskon aytoys en tois sabbasin·
Edified Edition (EDE)And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.

Καὶ κατῆλθεν εἰς Καφαρναοὺμ πόλιν τῆς Γαλιλαίας. καὶ ἦν διδάσκων αὐτοὺς ἐν τοῖς σάββασιν·

Phonetic (Greek): kai exeplessonto epi tῇ didachῇ aytoy, hoti en exousiᾳ en ho logos aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they were astonished at His teaching, for His word was with authority.

καὶ ἐξεπλήσσοντο ἐπὶ τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ, ὅτι ἐν ἐξουσίᾳ ἦν ὁ λόγος αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai en tῇ synagogῇ en anthropos echon pneyma daimoniou akathartou, kai anekraxen phonῇ megalῃ·
Edified Edition (EDE)And in the synagogue there was a man, who had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,

καὶ ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ ἦν ἄνθρωπος ἔχων πνεῦμα δαιμονίου ἀκαθάρτου, καὶ ἀνέκραξεν φωνῇ μεγάλῃ·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀Ἔa, ti hemin kai soi, Ἰesoy Nazarene; elthes apolesai hemas; oida se tis ei, ho hagios toy theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Saying, "Let us alone; what have we to do with you, you Jesus of Nazareth? are you come to destroy us? I know you who you are; the Holy One of God."

⸀Ἔα, τί ἡμῖν καὶ σοί, Ἰησοῦ Ναζαρηνέ; ἦλθες ἀπολέσαι ἡμᾶς; οἶδά σε τίς εἶ, ὁ ἅγιος τοῦ θεοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai epetimesen aytῷ ho Ἰesoys legon· Phimotheti kai exelthe ⸀apʼ aytoy. kai ῥipsan ayton to daimonion eis ⸀to meson exelthen apʼ aytoy meden blapsan ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)And Jesus rebuked him, saying, [JESUS]"Hold your peace, and come out of him!"[/JESUS] And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.

καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγων· Φιμώθητι καὶ ἔξελθε ⸀ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ. καὶ ῥίψαν αὐτὸν τὸ δαιμόνιον εἰς ⸀τὸ μέσον ἐξῆλθεν ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ μηδὲν βλάψαν αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai egeneto thambos epi pantas, kai synelaloun pros allelous legontes· Tis ho logos ohytos hoti en exousiᾳ kai dynamei epitassei tois akathartois pneymasin, kai exerchontai;
Edified Edition (EDE)And they were all amazed, and spoke among themselves, saying, "What a word is this! for with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out."

καὶ ἐγένετο θάμβος ἐπὶ πάντας, καὶ συνελάλουν πρὸς ἀλλήλους λέγοντες· Τίς ὁ λόγος οὗτος ὅτι ἐν ἐξουσίᾳ καὶ δυνάμει ἐπιτάσσει τοῖς ἀκαθάρτοις πνεύμασιν, καὶ ἐξέρχονται;

Phonetic (Greek): kai exeporeyeto echos peri aytoy eis panta topon tes perichorou.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.

καὶ ἐξεπορεύετο ἦχος περὶ αὐτοῦ εἰς πάντα τόπον τῆς περιχώρου.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀnastas de ⸀apo tes synagoges eiselthen eis ten oikian Simonos. penthera de toy Simonos en synechomene pyretῷ megalῳ, kai erotesan ayton peri aytes.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.

Ἀναστὰς δὲ ⸀ἀπὸ τῆς συναγωγῆς εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν Σίμωνος. πενθερὰ δὲ τοῦ Σίμωνος ἦν συνεχομένη πυρετῷ μεγάλῳ, καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτὸν περὶ αὐτῆς.

Phonetic (Greek): kai epistas epano aytes epetimesen tῷ pyretῷ, kai apheken ayten· parachrema de anastasa diekonei aytois.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered to them.

καὶ ἐπιστὰς ἐπάνω αὐτῆς ἐπετίμησεν τῷ πυρετῷ, καὶ ἀφῆκεν αὐτήν· παραχρῆμα δὲ ἀναστᾶσα διηκόνει αὐτοῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): Dynontos de toy heliou ⸀hapantes hosoi eichon asthenoyntas nosois poikilais egagon aytoys pros ayton· ho de heni hekastῳ ayton tas cheiras ⸂epititheis etherapeuen⸃ aytoys.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.

Δύνοντος δὲ τοῦ ἡλίου ⸀ἅπαντες ὅσοι εἶχον ἀσθενοῦντας νόσοις ποικίλαις ἤγαγον αὐτοὺς πρὸς αὐτόν· ὁ δὲ ἑνὶ ἑκάστῳ αὐτῶν τὰς χεῖρας ⸂ἐπιτιθεὶς ἐθεράπευεν⸃ αὐτούς.

Phonetic (Greek): exercheto de kai daimonia apo pollon ⸀kraugazonta kai legonta hoti Sy ⸀ei ho yhios toy theoy. kai epitimon oyk eia ayta lalein, hoti edeisan ton christon ayton einai.
Edified Edition (EDE)And demons also came out of many, crying out, and saying, "You are Christ the Son of God!" And He rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that He was Christ.
