Edified Edition (EDE)Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him,

Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ καθεξῆς καὶ αὐτὸς διώδευεν κατὰ πόλιν καὶ κώμην κηρύσσων καὶ εὐαγγελιζόμενος τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ οἱ δώδεκα σὺν αὐτῷ,

Phonetic (Greek): kai gynaikes tines ahi esan tetherapeumenai apo pneumaton poneron kai astheneion, Maria he kaloumene Magdalene, aphʼ hes daimonia hepta exelelythei,
Edified Edition (EDE)And certain women, who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven demons,

καὶ γυναῖκές τινες αἳ ἦσαν τεθεραπευμέναι ἀπὸ πνευμάτων πονηρῶν καὶ ἀσθενειῶν, Μαρία ἡ καλουμένη Μαγδαληνή, ἀφʼ ἧς δαιμόνια ἑπτὰ ἐξεληλύθει,

Phonetic (Greek): kai Ἰoanna gyne Chouza epitropou Ἡrῴdou kai Sousanna kai heterai pollai, ahitines diekonoun aytois ⸀ek ton hyparchonton aytais.
Edified Edition (EDE)And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, who ministered to him of their substance.

καὶ Ἰωάννα γυνὴ Χουζᾶ ἐπιτρόπου Ἡρῴδου καὶ Σουσάννα καὶ ἕτεραι πολλαί, αἵτινες διηκόνουν αὐτοῖς ⸀ἐκ τῶν ὑπαρχόντων αὐταῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): Syniontos de ochlou polloy kai ton kata polin epiporeuomenon pros ayton eipen dia paraboles·
Edified Edition (EDE)And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spoke by a parable:

Συνιόντος δὲ ὄχλου πολλοῦ καὶ τῶν κατὰ πόλιν ἐπιπορευομένων πρὸς αὐτὸν εἶπεν διὰ παραβολῆς·

Phonetic (Greek): Ἐxelthen ho speiron toy speirai ton sporon aytoy. kai en tῷ speirein ayton ho men epesen para ten hodon, kai katepatethe kai ta peteina toy oyranoy katephagen ayto.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it."[/JESUS]

Ἐξῆλθεν ὁ σπείρων τοῦ σπεῖραι τὸν σπόρον αὐτοῦ. καὶ ἐν τῷ σπείρειν αὐτὸν ὃ μὲν ἔπεσεν παρὰ τὴν ὁδόν, καὶ κατεπατήθη καὶ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ κατέφαγεν αὐτό.

Phonetic (Greek): kai heteron ⸀katepesen epi ten petran, kai phyen exeranthe dia to me echein ikmada.
Edified Edition (EDE)And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.

καὶ ἕτερον ⸀κατέπεσεν ἐπὶ τὴν πέτραν, καὶ φυὲν ἐξηράνθη διὰ τὸ μὴ ἔχειν ἰκμάδα.

Phonetic (Greek): kai heteron epesen en mesῳ ton akanthon, kai symphyeisai ahi akanthai apepnixan ayto.
Edified Edition (EDE)And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.

καὶ ἕτερον ἔπεσεν ἐν μέσῳ τῶν ἀκανθῶν, καὶ συμφυεῖσαι αἱ ἄκανθαι ἀπέπνιξαν αὐτό.

Phonetic (Greek): kai heteron epesen eis ten gen ten agathen, kai phyen epoiesen karpon hekatontaplasiona. tayta legon ephonei· Ὁ echon ota akoyein akoueto.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold."[/JESUS] When He had said these things He cried out, [JESUS]"He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"[/JESUS]

καὶ ἕτερον ἔπεσεν εἰς τὴν γῆν τὴν ἀγαθήν, καὶ φυὲν ἐποίησεν καρπὸν ἑκατονταπλασίονα. ταῦτα λέγων ἐφώνει· Ὁ ἔχων ὦτα ἀκούειν ἀκουέτω.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἐperoton de ayton ohi mathetai ⸀aytoy tis ⸂ahyte eie he parabole⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?

Ἐπηρώτων δὲ αὐτὸν οἱ μαθηταὶ ⸀αὐτοῦ τίς ⸂αὕτη εἴη ἡ παραβολή⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de eipen· Ὑmin dedotai gnonai ta mysteria tes basileias toy theoy, tois de loipois en parabolais, hina blepontes me bleposin kai akoyontes me syniosin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said, [JESUS]"To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that 'seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.'"[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ εἶπεν· Ὑμῖν δέδοται γνῶναι τὰ μυστήρια τῆς βασιλείας τοῦ θεοῦ, τοῖς δὲ λοιποῖς ἐν παραβολαῖς, ἵνα βλέποντες μὴ βλέπωσιν καὶ ἀκούοντες μὴ συνιῶσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἔstin de ahyte he parabole· Ὁ sporos estin ho logos toy theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

Ἔστιν δὲ αὕτη ἡ παραβολή· Ὁ σπόρος ἐστὶν ὁ λόγος τοῦ θεοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de para ten hodon eisin ohi ⸀akoysantes, eita erchetai ho diabolos kai airei ton logon apo tes kardias ayton, hina me pisteysantes sothosin.
Edified Edition (EDE)Those by the way side are they that hear; then comes the devil, and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

οἱ δὲ παρὰ τὴν ὁδόν εἰσιν οἱ ⸀ἀκούσαντες, εἶτα ἔρχεται ὁ διάβολος καὶ αἴρει τὸν λόγον ἀπὸ τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν, ἵνα μὴ πιστεύσαντες σωθῶσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de epi tes petras ohi hotan akoysosin meta charas dechontai ton logon, kai ohytoi ῥizan oyk echousin, ohi pros kairon pisteyousin kai en kairῷ peirasmoy aphistantai.
Edified Edition (EDE)They on the rock are they, who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

οἱ δὲ ἐπὶ τῆς πέτρας οἳ ὅταν ἀκούσωσιν μετὰ χαρᾶς δέχονται τὸν λόγον, καὶ οὗτοι ῥίζαν οὐκ ἔχουσιν, οἳ πρὸς καιρὸν πιστεύουσιν καὶ ἐν καιρῷ πειρασμοῦ ἀφίστανται.

Phonetic (Greek): to de eis tas akanthas peson, ohytoi eisin ohi akoysantes, kai hypo merimnon kai ploytou kai hedonon toy biou poreuomenoi sympnigontai kai oy telesphoroysin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And that which fell among thorns are they, who, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

τὸ δὲ εἰς τὰς ἀκάνθας πεσόν, οὗτοί εἰσιν οἱ ἀκούσαντες, καὶ ὑπὸ μεριμνῶν καὶ πλούτου καὶ ἡδονῶν τοῦ βίου πορευόμενοι συμπνίγονται καὶ οὐ τελεσφοροῦσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): to de en tῇ kalῇ gῇ, ohytoi eisin ohitines en kardiᾳ kalῇ kai agathῇ akoysantes ton logon katechousin kai karpophoroysin en hypomonῇ.
Edified Edition (EDE)But that on the good ground are they, who in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

τὸ δὲ ἐν τῇ καλῇ γῇ, οὗτοί εἰσιν οἵτινες ἐν καρδίᾳ καλῇ καὶ ἀγαθῇ ἀκούσαντες τὸν λόγον κατέχουσιν καὶ καρποφοροῦσιν ἐν ὑπομονῇ.

Phonetic (Greek): Oydeis de lychnon hapsas kalyptei ayton skeyei e hypokato klines tithesin, allʼ epi lychnias ⸀tithesin, hina ohi eisporeuomenoi bleposin to phos.
Edified Edition (EDE)No man, when he has lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or puts it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.

Οὐδεὶς δὲ λύχνον ἅψας καλύπτει αὐτὸν σκεύει ἢ ὑποκάτω κλίνης τίθησιν, ἀλλʼ ἐπὶ λυχνίας ⸀τίθησιν, ἵνα οἱ εἰσπορευόμενοι βλέπωσιν τὸ φῶς.

Phonetic (Greek): oy gar estin krypton ho oy phaneron genesetai, oyde apokryphon ho oy ⸂me gnosthῇ⸃ kai eis phaneron elthῃ.
Edified Edition (EDE)For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.

οὐ γάρ ἐστιν κρυπτὸν ὃ οὐ φανερὸν γενήσεται, οὐδὲ ἀπόκρυφον ὃ οὐ ⸂μὴ γνωσθῇ⸃ καὶ εἰς φανερὸν ἔλθῃ.

Phonetic (Greek): blepete oyn pos akoyete· hos ⸂an gar⸃ echῃ, dothesetai aytῷ, kai hos ⸀an me echῃ, kai ho dokei echein arthesetai apʼ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Take heed therefore how you hear: for whoever has, to him shall be given; and whoever has not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

βλέπετε οὖν πῶς ἀκούετε· ὃς ⸂ἂν γὰρ⸃ ἔχῃ, δοθήσεται αὐτῷ, καὶ ὃς ⸀ἂν μὴ ἔχῃ, καὶ ὃ δοκεῖ ἔχειν ἀρθήσεται ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀Paregeneto de pros ayton he meter kai ohi adelphoi aytoy, kai oyk edynanto syntychein aytῷ dia ton ochlon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then came to him his mother and his brothers, and could not come at him for the press.

⸀Παρεγένετο δὲ πρὸς αὐτὸν ἡ μήτηρ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ οὐκ ἠδύναντο συντυχεῖν αὐτῷ διὰ τὸν ὄχλον.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂apengele de⸃ ⸀aytῷ· Ἡ meter sou kai ohi adelphoi sou hestekasin exo idein ⸂se thelontes⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)And it was told him by certain which said, your mother and your brothers stand without, desiring to see you.

⸂ἀπηγγέλη δὲ⸃ ⸀αὐτῷ· Ἡ μήτηρ σου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί σου ἑστήκασιν ἔξω ἰδεῖν ⸂σε θέλοντες⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de apokritheis eipen pros aytoys· Meter mou kai adelphoi mou ohytoi eisin ohi ton logon toy theoy akoyontes kai ⸀poioyntes.
Edified Edition (EDE)But He answered and said to them, [JESUS]"My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it."[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Μήτηρ μου καὶ ἀδελφοί μου οὗτοί εἰσιν οἱ τὸν λόγον τοῦ θεοῦ ἀκούοντες καὶ ⸀ποιοῦντες.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂Ἐgeneto de⸃ en miᾷ ton hemeron kai aytos enebe eis ploion kai ohi mathetai aytoy, kai eipen pros aytoys· Dielthomen eis to peran tes limnes, kai anechthesan.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said to them, Let us go over to the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.

⸂Ἐγένετο δὲ⸃ ἐν μιᾷ τῶν ἡμερῶν καὶ αὐτὸς ἐνέβη εἰς πλοῖον καὶ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Διέλθωμεν εἰς τὸ πέραν τῆς λίμνης, καὶ ἀνήχθησαν.

Phonetic (Greek): pleonton de ayton aphypnosen. kai katebe lailaps anemou eis ten limnen, kai synepleroynto kai ekindyneuon.
Edified Edition (EDE)But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.

πλεόντων δὲ αὐτῶν ἀφύπνωσεν. καὶ κατέβη λαῖλαψ ἀνέμου εἰς τὴν λίμνην, καὶ συνεπληροῦντο καὶ ἐκινδύνευον.

Phonetic (Greek): proselthontes de diegeiran ayton legontes· Ἐpistata epistata, apollymetha· ho de ⸀diegertheis epetimesen tῷ anemῳ kai tῷ klydoni toy hydatos, kai epaysanto, kai egeneto galene.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, "Master, Master, we are perishing!" Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm.

προσελθόντες δὲ διήγειραν αὐτὸν λέγοντες· Ἐπιστάτα ἐπιστάτα, ἀπολλύμεθα· ὁ δὲ ⸀διεγερθεὶς ἐπετίμησεν τῷ ἀνέμῳ καὶ τῷ κλύδωνι τοῦ ὕδατος, καὶ ἐπαύσαντο, καὶ ἐγένετο γαλήνη.

Phonetic (Greek): eipen de aytois· ⸀Poy he pistis hymon; phobethentes de ethaymasan, legontes pros allelous· Tis ara ohytos estin hoti kai tois anemois epitassei kai tῷ hydati, kai hypakoyousin aytῷ;
Edified Edition (EDE)But He said to them, [JESUS]"Where is your faith?"[/JESUS] And they were afraid, and marvelled, saying to one another, "Who can this be, for He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!"

εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς· ⸀Ποῦ ἡ πίστις ὑμῶν; φοβηθέντες δὲ ἐθαύμασαν, λέγοντες πρὸς ἀλλήλους· Τίς ἄρα οὗτός ἐστιν ὅτι καὶ τοῖς ἀνέμοις ἐπιτάσσει καὶ τῷ ὕδατι, καὶ ὑπακούουσιν αὐτῷ;

Phonetic (Greek): Kai katepleusan eis ten choran ton ⸀Gerasenon, hetis estin antipera tes Galilaias.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, who is over against Galilee.

Καὶ κατέπλευσαν εἰς τὴν χώραν τῶν ⸀Γερασηνῶν, ἥτις ἐστὶν ἀντιπέρα τῆς Γαλιλαίας.

Phonetic (Greek): exelthonti de aytῷ epi ten gen ⸀hypentesen aner tis ek tes poleos ⸀echon daimonia· ⸂kai chronῳ hikanῷ oyk enedysato himation⸃, kai en oikiᾳ oyk emenen allʼ en tois mnemasin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, who had demons long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.

ἐξελθόντι δὲ αὐτῷ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ⸀ὑπήντησεν ἀνήρ τις ἐκ τῆς πόλεως ⸀ἔχων δαιμόνια· ⸂καὶ χρόνῳ ἱκανῷ οὐκ ἐνεδύσατο ἱμάτιον⸃, καὶ ἐν οἰκίᾳ οὐκ ἔμενεν ἀλλʼ ἐν τοῖς μνήμασιν.

Phonetic (Greek): idon de ton ⸀Ἰesoyn anakraxas prosepesen aytῷ kai phonῇ megalῃ eipen· Ti emoi kai soi, Ἰesoy yhie toy theoy toy hypsistou; deomai sou, me me basanisῃs·
Edified Edition (EDE)When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of God most high? I beseech you, torment me not.

ἰδὼν δὲ τὸν ⸀Ἰησοῦν ἀνακράξας προσέπεσεν αὐτῷ καὶ φωνῇ μεγάλῃ εἶπεν· Τί ἐμοὶ καὶ σοί, Ἰησοῦ υἱὲ τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ὑψίστου; δέομαί σου, μή με βασανίσῃς·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀parengellen gar tῷ pneymati tῷ akathartῳ exelthein apo toy anthropou. pollois gar chronois synerpakei ayton, kai ⸀edesmeyeto halysesin kai pedais phylassomenos, kai diarresson ta desma elayneto ⸀hypo toy ⸀daimoniou eis tas eremous.
Edified Edition (EDE)(For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)

⸀παρήγγελλεν γὰρ τῷ πνεύματι τῷ ἀκαθάρτῳ ἐξελθεῖν ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου. πολλοῖς γὰρ χρόνοις συνηρπάκει αὐτόν, καὶ ⸀ἐδεσμεύετο ἁλύσεσιν καὶ πέδαις φυλασσόμενος, καὶ διαρρήσσων τὰ δεσμὰ ἠλαύνετο ⸀ὑπὸ τοῦ ⸀δαιμονίου εἰς τὰς ἐρήμους.

Phonetic (Greek): eperotesen de ayton ho ⸀Ἰesoys· Ti soi ⸂onoma estin⸃; ho de eipen· Legion, hoti ⸂eiselthen daimonia polla⸃ eis ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)Jesus asked him, saying, [JESUS]"What is your name?"[/JESUS] And he said, "Legion," because many demons had entered him.

ἐπηρώτησεν δὲ αὐτὸν ὁ ⸀Ἰησοῦς· Τί σοι ⸂ὄνομά ἐστιν⸃; ὁ δὲ εἶπεν· Λεγιών, ὅτι ⸂εἰσῆλθεν δαιμόνια πολλὰ⸃ εἰς αὐτόν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀parekaloun ayton hina me epitaxῃ aytois eis ten abysson apelthein.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.

καὶ ⸀παρεκάλουν αὐτὸν ἵνα μὴ ἐπιτάξῃ αὐτοῖς εἰς τὴν ἄβυσσον ἀπελθεῖν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἦn de ekei agele choiron hikanon ⸀boskomene en tῷ orei· kai ⸀parekalesan ayton hina epitrepsῃ aytois eis ekeinous eiselthein· kai epetrepsen aytois.
Edified Edition (EDE)And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.

Ἦν δὲ ἐκεῖ ἀγέλη χοίρων ἱκανῶν ⸀βοσκομένη ἐν τῷ ὄρει· καὶ ⸀παρεκάλεσαν αὐτὸν ἵνα ἐπιτρέψῃ αὐτοῖς εἰς ἐκείνους εἰσελθεῖν· καὶ ἐπέτρεψεν αὐτοῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): exelthonta de ta daimonia apo toy anthropou eiselthon eis toys choirous, kai hormesen he agele kata toy kremnoy eis ten limnen kai apepnige.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then went the demons out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.

ἐξελθόντα δὲ τὰ δαιμόνια ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου εἰσῆλθον εἰς τοὺς χοίρους, καὶ ὥρμησεν ἡ ἀγέλη κατὰ τοῦ κρημνοῦ εἰς τὴν λίμνην καὶ ἀπεπνίγη.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἰdontes de ohi boskontes to ⸀gegonos ephygon kai apengeilan eis ten polin kai eis toys agroys.
Edified Edition (EDE)When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country.

Ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ βόσκοντες τὸ ⸀γεγονὸς ἔφυγον καὶ ἀπήγγειλαν εἰς τὴν πόλιν καὶ εἰς τοὺς ἀγρούς.

Phonetic (Greek): exelthon de idein to gegonos kai elthon pros ton Ἰesoyn, kai ehyron kathemenon ton anthropon aphʼ ohy ta daimonia ⸀exelthen himatismenon kai sophronoynta para toys podas toy Ἰesoy, kai ephobethesan.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the demons were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

ἐξῆλθον δὲ ἰδεῖν τὸ γεγονὸς καὶ ἦλθον πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν, καὶ εὗρον καθήμενον τὸν ἄνθρωπον ἀφʼ οὗ τὰ δαιμόνια ⸀ἐξῆλθεν ἱματισμένον καὶ σωφρονοῦντα παρὰ τοὺς πόδας τοῦ Ἰησοῦ, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν.

Phonetic (Greek): apengeilan de ⸀aytois ohi idontes pos esothe ho daimonistheis.
Edified Edition (EDE)They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the demons was healed.

ἀπήγγειλαν δὲ ⸀αὐτοῖς οἱ ἰδόντες πῶς ἐσώθη ὁ δαιμονισθείς.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀erotesen ayton hapan to plethos tes perichorou ton ⸀Gerasenon apelthein apʼ ayton, hoti phobῳ megalῳ syneichonto· aytos de embas ⸀eis ploion hypestrepsen.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again.

Edified Edition (EDE)Now the man out of whom the demons were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you."[/JESUS] And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.

ὅτι θυγάτηρ μονογενὴς ἦν αὐτῷ ὡς ἐτῶν δώδεκα καὶ αὐτὴ ἀπέθνῃσκεν. Ἐν δὲ τῷ ὑπάγειν αὐτὸν οἱ ὄχλοι συνέπνιγον αὐτόν.
