Edified Edition (EDE)And again He began to teach by the sea. And a great multitude was gathered to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat in it on the sea; and the whole multitude was on the land by the sea.

Καὶ πάλιν ἤρξατο διδάσκειν παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν. καὶ ⸀συνάγεται πρὸς αὐτὸν ὄχλος ⸀πλεῖστος, ὥστε αὐτὸν ⸂εἰς πλοῖον ἐμβάντα⸃ καθῆσθαι ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ, καὶ πᾶς ὁ ὄχλος πρὸς τὴν θάλασσαν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ⸀ἦσαν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai edidasken aytoys en parabolais polla, kai elegen aytois en tῇ didachῇ aytoy·
Edified Edition (EDE)And he taught them many things by parables, and said to them in his doctrine,

καὶ ἐδίδασκεν αὐτοὺς ἐν παραβολαῖς πολλά, καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς ἐν τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀkoyete. idoy exelthen ho ⸀speiron speirai.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow."[/JESUS]

Ἀκούετε. ἰδοὺ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ ⸀σπείρων σπεῖραι.

Phonetic (Greek): kai egeneto en tῷ speirein ho men epesen para ten hodon, kai elthen ta peteina kai katephagen ayto.
Edified Edition (EDE)And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ σπείρειν ὃ μὲν ἔπεσεν παρὰ τὴν ὁδόν, καὶ ἦλθεν τὰ πετεινὰ καὶ κατέφαγεν αὐτό.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂kai allo⸃ epesen epi to petrodes ⸀hopou oyk eichen gen pollen, kai ⸀eythys exaneteilen dia to me echein bathos ges·
Edified Edition (EDE)And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:

⸂καὶ ἄλλο⸃ ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ τὸ πετρῶδες ⸀ὅπου οὐκ εἶχεν γῆν πολλήν, καὶ ⸀εὐθὺς ἐξανέτειλεν διὰ τὸ μὴ ἔχειν βάθος γῆς·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂kai hote aneteilen ho helios⸃ ⸀ekaumatisthe kai dia to me echein ῥizan exeranthe.
Edified Edition (EDE)But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

⸂καὶ ὅτε ἀνέτειλεν ὁ ἥλιος⸃ ⸀ἐκαυματίσθη καὶ διὰ τὸ μὴ ἔχειν ῥίζαν ἐξηράνθη.

Phonetic (Greek): kai allo epesen eis tas akanthas, kai anebesan ahi akanthai kai synepnixan ayto, kai karpon oyk edoken.
Edified Edition (EDE)And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

καὶ ἄλλο ἔπεσεν εἰς τὰς ἀκάνθας, καὶ ἀνέβησαν αἱ ἄκανθαι καὶ συνέπνιξαν αὐτό, καὶ καρπὸν οὐκ ἔδωκεν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀alla epesen eis ten gen ten kalen, kai edidou karpon anabainonta kai ⸀ayxanomena, kai epheren ⸂hen triakonta kai hen hexekonta kai hen⸃ hekaton.
Edified Edition (EDE)And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

καὶ ⸀ἄλλα ἔπεσεν εἰς τὴν γῆν τὴν καλήν, καὶ ἐδίδου καρπὸν ἀναβαίνοντα καὶ ⸀αὐξανόμενα, καὶ ἔφερεν ⸂ἓν τριάκοντα καὶ ἓν ἑξήκοντα καὶ ἓν⸃ ἑκατόν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai elegen· ⸂Ὃs echei⸃ ota akoyein akoueto.
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said to them, [JESUS]"He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"[/JESUS]

καὶ ἔλεγεν· ⸂Ὃς ἔχει⸃ ὦτα ἀκούειν ἀκουέτω.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂Kai hote⸃ egeneto kata monas, ⸀eroton ayton ohi peri ayton syn tois dodeka ⸂tas parabolas⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

⸂Καὶ ὅτε⸃ ἐγένετο κατὰ μόνας, ⸀ἠρώτων αὐτὸν οἱ περὶ αὐτὸν σὺν τοῖς δώδεκα ⸂τὰς παραβολάς⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): kai elegen aytois· Ὑmin ⸂to mysterion dedotai⸃ tes basileias toy theoy· ekeinois de tois exo en parabolais ta panta ginetai,
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said to them, [JESUS]"To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables,"[/JESUS]

καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· Ὑμῖν ⸂τὸ μυστήριον δέδοται⸃ τῆς βασιλείας τοῦ θεοῦ· ἐκείνοις δὲ τοῖς ἔξω ἐν παραβολαῖς τὰ πάντα γίνεται,

Phonetic (Greek): hina blepontes bleposi kai me idosin, kai akoyontes akoyosi kai me syniosin, mepote epistrepsosin kai aphethῇ ⸀aytois.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"so that 'seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand; lest they should turn and their sins be forgiven them.'"[/JESUS]

ἵνα βλέποντες βλέπωσι καὶ μὴ ἴδωσιν, καὶ ἀκούοντες ἀκούωσι καὶ μὴ συνιῶσιν, μήποτε ἐπιστρέψωσιν καὶ ἀφεθῇ ⸀αὐτοῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai legei aytois· Oyk oidate ten parabolen tayten, kai pos pasas tas parabolas gnosesthe;
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said to them, [JESUS]"Do you not know this parable? and how then will you know all parables?"[/JESUS]

Καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Οὐκ οἴδατε τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην, καὶ πῶς πάσας τὰς παραβολὰς γνώσεσθε;

Phonetic (Greek): ho speiron ton logon speirei.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"The sower sows the word."[/JESUS]

ὁ σπείρων τὸν λόγον σπείρει.

Phonetic (Greek): ohytoi de eisin ohi para ten hodon hopou speiretai ho logos, kai hotan akoysosin ⸀eythys erchetai ho Satanas kai airei ton logon ton esparmenon ⸂eis aytoys⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan comes immediately, and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts."[/JESUS]

οὗτοι δέ εἰσιν οἱ παρὰ τὴν ὁδὸν ὅπου σπείρεται ὁ λόγος, καὶ ὅταν ἀκούσωσιν ⸀εὐθὺς ἔρχεται ὁ Σατανᾶς καὶ αἴρει τὸν λόγον τὸν ἐσπαρμένον ⸂εἰς αὐτούς⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ohytoi eisin ⸀homoios ohi epi ta petrode speiromenoi, ohi hotan akoysosin ton logon ⸀eythys meta charas lambanousin ayton,
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;"[/JESUS]

καὶ οὗτοί εἰσιν ⸀ὁμοίως οἱ ἐπὶ τὰ πετρώδη σπειρόμενοι, οἳ ὅταν ἀκούσωσιν τὸν λόγον ⸀εὐθὺς μετὰ χαρᾶς λαμβάνουσιν αὐτόν,

Phonetic (Greek): kai oyk echousin ῥizan en heautois alla proskairoi eisin, eita genomenes thlipseos e diogmoy dia ton logon ⸀eythys skandalizontai.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended."[/JESUS]

καὶ οὐκ ἔχουσιν ῥίζαν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς ἀλλὰ πρόσκαιροί εἰσιν, εἶτα γενομένης θλίψεως ἢ διωγμοῦ διὰ τὸν λόγον ⸀εὐθὺς σκανδαλίζονται.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀alloi eisin ohi eis tas akanthas speiromenoi· ⸂ohytoi eisin⸃ ohi ton logon ⸀akoysantes,
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,"[/JESUS]

καὶ ⸀ἄλλοι εἰσὶν οἱ εἰς τὰς ἀκάνθας σπειρόμενοι· ⸂οὗτοί εἰσιν⸃ οἱ τὸν λόγον ⸀ἀκούσαντες,

Phonetic (Greek): kai ahi merimnai toy ⸀aionos kai he apate toy ploytou kai ahi peri ta loipa epithymiai eisporeuomenai sympnigousin ton logon, kai akarpos ginetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful."[/JESUS]

καὶ αἱ μέριμναι τοῦ ⸀αἰῶνος καὶ ἡ ἀπάτη τοῦ πλούτου καὶ αἱ περὶ τὰ λοιπὰ ἐπιθυμίαι εἰσπορευόμεναι συμπνίγουσιν τὸν λόγον, καὶ ἄκαρπος γίνεται.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸀ekeinoi eisin ohi epi ten gen ten kalen sparentes, ohitines akoyousin ton logon kai paradechontai kai karpophoroysin ⸂hen triakonta kai hen hexekonta kai hen⸃ hekaton.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred."[/JESUS]

καὶ ⸀ἐκεῖνοί εἰσιν οἱ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν τὴν καλὴν σπαρέντες, οἵτινες ἀκούουσιν τὸν λόγον καὶ παραδέχονται καὶ καρποφοροῦσιν ⸂ἓν τριάκοντα καὶ ἓν ἑξήκοντα καὶ ἓν⸃ ἑκατόν.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai elegen ⸀aytois· Meti ⸂erchetai ho lychnos⸃ hina hypo ton modion tethῇ e hypo ten klinen, oych hina epi ten lychnian ⸀tethῇ;
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said to them, [JESUS]"Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?"[/JESUS]

Καὶ ἔλεγεν ⸀αὐτοῖς· Μήτι ⸂ἔρχεται ὁ λύχνος⸃ ἵνα ὑπὸ τὸν μόδιον τεθῇ ἢ ὑπὸ τὴν κλίνην, οὐχ ἵνα ἐπὶ τὴν λυχνίαν ⸀τεθῇ;

Phonetic (Greek): oy gar estin ⸀krypton ean me ⸀hina phanerothῇ, oyde egeneto apokryphon allʼ hina ⸂elthῃ eis phaneron⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For there is nothing hidden, that shall not be manifested; neither was anything kept secret, but that it should come abroad."[/JESUS]

οὐ γάρ ἐστιν ⸀κρυπτὸν ἐὰν μὴ ⸀ἵνα φανερωθῇ, οὐδὲ ἐγένετο ἀπόκρυφον ἀλλʼ ἵνα ⸂ἔλθῃ εἰς φανερόν⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): ei tis echei ota akoyein akoueto.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"If any man have ears to hear, let him hear."[/JESUS]

εἴ τις ἔχει ὦτα ἀκούειν ἀκουέτω.

Phonetic (Greek): kai elegen aytois· Blepete ti akoyete. en ho metrῳ metreite metrethesetai hymin kai prostethesetai ⸀hymin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said to them, [JESUS]"Take heed what you hear. With the measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given."[/JESUS]

καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· Βλέπετε τί ἀκούετε. ἐν ᾧ μέτρῳ μετρεῖτε μετρηθήσεται ὑμῖν καὶ προστεθήσεται ⸀ὑμῖν.

Phonetic (Greek): hos gar ⸀echei, dothesetai aytῷ· kai hos oyk echei, kai ⸀ho echei arthesetai apʼ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For he that has, to him shall be given: and he that has not, from him shall be taken even that which he has."[/JESUS]

ὃς γὰρ ⸀ἔχει, δοθήσεται αὐτῷ· καὶ ὃς οὐκ ἔχει, καὶ ⸀ὃ ἔχει ἀρθήσεται ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai elegen· Ohytos estin he basileia toy theoy ⸀hos anthropos balῃ ton sporon epi tes ges
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said, [JESUS]"The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground,"[/JESUS]

Καὶ ἔλεγεν· Οὕτως ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ ⸀ὡς ἄνθρωπος βάλῃ τὸν σπόρον ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς

Phonetic (Greek): kai katheydῃ kai egeiretai nykta kai hemeran, kai ho sporos ⸀blastᾷ kai mekynetai hos oyk oiden aytos.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knows not how."[/JESUS]

καὶ καθεύδῃ καὶ ἐγείρηται νύκτα καὶ ἡμέραν, καὶ ὁ σπόρος ⸀βλαστᾷ καὶ μηκύνηται ὡς οὐκ οἶδεν αὐτός.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀aytomate he ge karpophorei, proton chorton, ⸂eita stachyn, eita⸃ ⸂pleres siton⸃ en tῷ stachyi.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For the earth brings forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear."[/JESUS]

⸀αὐτομάτη ἡ γῆ καρποφορεῖ, πρῶτον χόρτον, ⸂εἶτα στάχυν, εἶτα⸃ ⸂πλήρης σῖτον⸃ ἐν τῷ στάχυϊ.

Phonetic (Greek): hotan de ⸀paradoi ho karpos, ⸀eythys apostellei to drepanon, hoti paresteken ho therismos.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest is come."[/JESUS]

ὅταν δὲ ⸀παραδοῖ ὁ καρπός, ⸀εὐθὺς ἀποστέλλει τὸ δρέπανον, ὅτι παρέστηκεν ὁ θερισμός.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai elegen· ⸀Pos homoiosomen ten basileian toy theoy, e en ⸀tini ⸂ayten parabolῇ thomen⸃;
Edified Edition (EDE)Then He said, [JESUS]"To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we present it?"[/JESUS]

Καὶ ἔλεγεν· ⸀Πῶς ὁμοιώσωμεν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ, ἢ ἐν ⸀τίνι ⸂αὐτὴν παραβολῇ θῶμεν⸃;

Phonetic (Greek): hos ⸀kokkῳ sinapeos, hos hotan sparῇ epi tes ges, ⸂mikroteron on⸃ panton ton ⸀spermaton ton epi tes ges—
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"It is like a mustard seed, which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on it;"[/JESUS]

ὡς ⸀κόκκῳ σινάπεως, ὃς ὅταν σπαρῇ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, ⸂μικρότερον ὂν⸃ πάντων τῶν ⸀σπερμάτων τῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς—

Phonetic (Greek): kai hotan sparῇ, anabainei kai ginetai ⸂meizon panton ton lachanon⸃ kai poiei kladous megalous, hoste dynasthai hypo ten skian aytoy ta peteina toy oyranoy kataskenoyn.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But when it is sown, it grows up, and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it."[/JESUS]

καὶ ὅταν σπαρῇ, ἀναβαίνει καὶ γίνεται ⸂μεῖζον πάντων τῶν λαχάνων⸃ καὶ ποιεῖ κλάδους μεγάλους, ὥστε δύνασθαι ὑπὸ τὴν σκιὰν αὐτοῦ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ κατασκηνοῦν.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai toiaytais parabolais pollais elalei aytois ton logon, kathos edynanto akoyein·
Edified Edition (EDE)And with many such parables spoke he the word to them, as they were able to hear it.

Καὶ τοιαύταις παραβολαῖς πολλαῖς ἐλάλει αὐτοῖς τὸν λόγον, καθὼς ἠδύναντο ἀκούειν·

Phonetic (Greek): choris de paraboles oyk elalei aytois, katʼ idian de tois ⸂idiois mathetais⸃ epelyen panta.
Edified Edition (EDE)But without a parable spoke he not to them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

χωρὶς δὲ παραβολῆς οὐκ ἐλάλει αὐτοῖς, κατʼ ἰδίαν δὲ τοῖς ⸂ἰδίοις μαθηταῖς⸃ ἐπέλυεν πάντα.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai legei aytois en ekeinῃ tῇ hemerᾳ opsias genomenes· Dielthomen eis to peran.
Edified Edition (EDE)And the same day, when the even was come, He says to them, [JESUS]"Let us pass over to the other side."[/JESUS]

Καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ὀψίας γενομένης· Διέλθωμεν εἰς τὸ πέραν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai aphentes ton ochlon paralambanousin ayton hos en en tῷ ploiῳ, kai alla ⸀ploia en metʼ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

καὶ ἀφέντες τὸν ὄχλον παραλαμβάνουσιν αὐτὸν ὡς ἦν ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ, καὶ ἄλλα ⸀πλοῖα ἦν μετʼ αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ginetai lailaps ⸂megale anemou⸃, ⸂kai ta⸃ kymata epeballen eis to ploion, hoste ⸂ede gemizesthai to ploion⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

καὶ γίνεται λαῖλαψ ⸂μεγάλη ἀνέμου⸃, ⸂καὶ τὰ⸃ κύματα ἐπέβαλλεν εἰς τὸ πλοῖον, ὥστε ⸂ἤδη γεμίζεσθαι τὸ πλοῖον⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸂aytos en⸃ ⸀en tῇ prymnῃ epi to proskephalaion katheydon· kai ⸀egeirousin ayton kai legousin aytῷ· Didaskale, oy melei soi hoti apollymetha;
Edified Edition (EDE)And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say to him, Master, carest you not that we perish?

καὶ ⸂αὐτὸς ἦν⸃ ⸀ἐν τῇ πρύμνῃ ἐπὶ τὸ προσκεφάλαιον καθεύδων· καὶ ⸀ἐγείρουσιν αὐτὸν καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ· Διδάσκαλε, οὐ μέλει σοι ὅτι ἀπολλύμεθα;

Phonetic (Greek): kai diegertheis epetimesen tῷ anemῳ kai eipen tῇ thalassῃ· Siopa, pephimoso. kai ekopasen ho anemos, kai egeneto galene megale.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, [JESUS]"Peace, be still!"[/JESUS] And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

καὶ διεγερθεὶς ἐπετίμησεν τῷ ἀνέμῳ καὶ εἶπεν τῇ θαλάσσῃ· Σιώπα, πεφίμωσο. καὶ ἐκόπασεν ὁ ἄνεμος, καὶ ἐγένετο γαλήνη μεγάλη.

Phonetic (Greek): kai eipen aytois· Ti deiloi este; ⸀oypo echete pistin;
Edified Edition (EDE)But He said to them, [JESUS]"Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?"[/JESUS]

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τί δειλοί ἐστε; ⸀οὔπω ἔχετε πίστιν;

Phonetic (Greek): kai ephobethesan phobon megan, kai elegon pros allelous· Tis ara ohytos estin hoti kai ho anemos kai he thalassa ⸀hypakoyei aytῷ;
Edified Edition (EDE)And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, "Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!"

καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν φόβον μέγαν, καὶ ἔλεγον πρὸς ἀλλήλους· Τίς ἄρα οὗτός ἐστιν ὅτι καὶ ὁ ἄνεμος καὶ ἡ θάλασσα ⸀ὑπακούει αὐτῷ;
