Edified Edition (EDE)Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes came together to Him, having come from Jerusalem.

Καὶ συνάγονται πρὸς αὐτὸν οἱ Φαρισαῖοι καί τινες τῶν γραμματέων ἐλθόντες ἀπὸ Ἱεροσολύμων

Edified Edition (EDE)And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.

καὶ ἰδόντες τινὰς τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ ⸂ὅτι κοιναῖς χερσίν, τοῦτʼ ἔστιν ἀνίπτοις, ἐσθίουσιν⸃ ⸀τοὺς ⸀ἄρτους—

Phonetic (Greek): ohi gar Pharisaioi kai pantes ohi Ἰoudaioi ean me pygmῇ nipsontai tas cheiras oyk esthiousin, kratoyntes ten paradosin ton presbyteron,
Edified Edition (EDE)For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands often, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.

οἱ γὰρ Φαρισαῖοι καὶ πάντες οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι ἐὰν μὴ πυγμῇ νίψωνται τὰς χεῖρας οὐκ ἐσθίουσιν, κρατοῦντες τὴν παράδοσιν τῶν πρεσβυτέρων,

Phonetic (Greek): kai apʼ ⸀agoras ean me ⸀baptisontai oyk esthiousin, kai alla polla estin ha parelabon kratein, baptismoys poterion kai xeston kai chalkion ⸂kai klinon⸃—
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, who they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.

καὶ ἀπʼ ⸀ἀγορᾶς ἐὰν μὴ ⸀βαπτίσωνται οὐκ ἐσθίουσιν, καὶ ἄλλα πολλά ἐστιν ἃ παρέλαβον κρατεῖν, βαπτισμοὺς ποτηρίων καὶ ξεστῶν καὶ χαλκίων ⸂καὶ κλινῶν⸃—

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀kai eperotosin ayton ohi Pharisaioi kai ohi grammateis· Dia ti ⸂oy peripatoysin ohi mathetai sou⸃ kata ten paradosin ton presbyteron, alla ⸀koinais chersin esthiousin ton arton;
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, "Why walk not your disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?"

⸀καὶ ἐπερωτῶσιν αὐτὸν οἱ Φαρισαῖοι καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς· Διὰ τί ⸂οὐ περιπατοῦσιν οἱ μαθηταί σου⸃ κατὰ τὴν παράδοσιν τῶν πρεσβυτέρων, ἀλλὰ ⸀κοιναῖς χερσὶν ἐσθίουσιν τὸν ἄρτον;

Phonetic (Greek): ho ⸀de eipen ⸀aytois· Kalos epropheteusen Ἠsaias peri hymon ton hypokriton, hos gegraptai ⸀hoti Ohytos ho laos tois cheilesin me timᾷ, he de kardia ayton porro apechei apʼ emoy·
Edified Edition (EDE)He answered and said to them, [JESUS]"Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: 'This people honours Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.'"[/JESUS]

ὁ ⸀δὲ εἶπεν ⸀αὐτοῖς· Καλῶς ἐπροφήτευσεν Ἠσαΐας περὶ ὑμῶν τῶν ὑποκριτῶν, ὡς γέγραπται ⸀ὅτι Οὗτος ὁ λαὸς τοῖς χείλεσίν με τιμᾷ, ἡ δὲ καρδία αὐτῶν πόρρω ἀπέχει ἀπʼ ἐμοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): maten de sebontai me, didaskontes didaskalias entalmata anthropon·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'"[/JESUS]

μάτην δὲ σέβονταί με, διδάσκοντες διδασκαλίας ἐντάλματα ἀνθρώπων·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀aphentes ten entolen toy theoy krateite ten paradosin ton ⸀anthropon.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things you do."[/JESUS]

⸀ἀφέντες τὴν ἐντολὴν τοῦ θεοῦ κρατεῖτε τὴν παράδοσιν τῶν ⸀ἀνθρώπων.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai elegen aytois· Kalos atheteite ten entolen toy theoy, hina ten paradosin hymon ⸀teresete·
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said to them, [JESUS]"Full well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your own tradition."[/JESUS]

Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· Καλῶς ἀθετεῖτε τὴν ἐντολὴν τοῦ θεοῦ, ἵνα τὴν παράδοσιν ὑμῶν ⸀τηρήσητε·

Phonetic (Greek): Moyses gar eipen· Tima ton patera sou kai ten metera sou, kai· Ὁ kakologon patera e metera thanatῳ teleutato·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For Moses said, Honour your father and your mother; and, whoever curses father or mother, let him die the death:"[/JESUS]

Μωϋσῆς γὰρ εἶπεν· Τίμα τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα σου, καί· Ὁ κακολογῶν πατέρα ἢ μητέρα θανάτῳ τελευτάτω·

Phonetic (Greek): hymeis de legete· Ἐan eipῃ anthropos tῷ patri e tῇ metri· Korban, ho estin Doron, ho ean ex emoy ophelethῇs,
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But you say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, (that is to say, a gift,) by whatever you might be profited by me; he shall be free."[/JESUS]

ὑμεῖς δὲ λέγετε· Ἐὰν εἴπῃ ἄνθρωπος τῷ πατρὶ ἢ τῇ μητρί· Κορβᾶν, ὅ ἐστιν Δῶρον, ὃ ἐὰν ἐξ ἐμοῦ ὠφεληθῇς,

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀oyketi aphiete ayton oyden poiesai tῷ ⸀patri e tῇ ⸀metri,
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And you suffer him no more to do anything for his father or his mother;"[/JESUS]

⸀οὐκέτι ἀφίετε αὐτὸν οὐδὲν ποιῆσαι τῷ ⸀πατρὶ ἢ τῇ ⸀μητρί,

Phonetic (Greek): akyroyntes ton logon toy theoy tῇ paradosei hymon he paredokate· kai paromoia toiayta polla poieite.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which you have delivered: and many such like things do you."[/JESUS]

ἀκυροῦντες τὸν λόγον τοῦ θεοῦ τῇ παραδόσει ὑμῶν ᾗ παρεδώκατε· καὶ παρόμοια τοιαῦτα πολλὰ ποιεῖτε.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai proskalesamenos ⸀palin ton ochlon elegen aytois· ⸀Ἀkoysate mou pantes kai ⸀synete.
Edified Edition (EDE)When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, [JESUS]"Hear Me, everyone, and understand:[/JESUS]

Καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος ⸀πάλιν τὸν ὄχλον ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς· ⸀Ἀκούσατέ μου πάντες καὶ ⸀σύνετε.

Phonetic (Greek): oyden estin exothen toy anthropou eisporeuomenon eis ayton ho dynatai ⸂koinosai ayton⸃· alla ta ⸂ek toy anthropou ekporeuomena⸃ estin ta koinoynta ton ⸀anthropon.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man."[/JESUS]

οὐδέν ἐστιν ἔξωθεν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου εἰσπορευόμενον εἰς αὐτὸν ὃ δύναται ⸂κοινῶσαι αὐτόν⸃· ἀλλὰ τὰ ⸂ἐκ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκπορευόμενά⸃ ἐστιν τὰ κοινοῦντα τὸν ⸀ἄνθρωπον.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai hote eiselthen ⸀eis oikon apo toy ochlou, eperoton ayton ohi mathetai aytoy ⸂ten parabolen⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.

Καὶ ὅτε εἰσῆλθεν ⸀εἰς οἶκον ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄχλου, ἐπηρώτων αὐτὸν οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ⸂τὴν παραβολήν⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): kai legei aytois· Ohytos kai hymeis asynetoi este; oy noeite hoti pan to exothen eisporeuomenon eis ton anthropon oy dynatai ayton koinosai,
Edified Edition (EDE)So He said to them, [JESUS]"Are you also without understanding? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him,"[/JESUS]

καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς· Οὕτως καὶ ὑμεῖς ἀσύνετοί ἐστε; οὐ νοεῖτε ὅτι πᾶν τὸ ἔξωθεν εἰσπορευόμενον εἰς τὸν ἄνθρωπον οὐ δύναται αὐτὸν κοινῶσαι,

Phonetic (Greek): hoti oyk eisporeyetai aytoy eis ten kardian allʼ eis ten koilian, kai eis ton aphedrona ekporeyetai;— ⸀katharizon panta ta bromata.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Because it enters not into his heart, but into the belly, and goes out into the draught, purging all meats?"[/JESUS]

ὅτι οὐκ εἰσπορεύεται αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν καρδίαν ἀλλʼ εἰς τὴν κοιλίαν, καὶ εἰς τὸν ἀφεδρῶνα ἐκπορεύεται;— ⸀καθαρίζων πάντα τὰ βρώματα.

Phonetic (Greek): elegen de hoti To ek toy anthropou ekporeuomenon ekeino koinoi ton anthropon·
Edified Edition (EDE)And He said, [JESUS]"That which comes out of the man, that defiles the man."[/JESUS]

ἔλεγεν δὲ ὅτι Τὸ ἐκ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκπορευόμενον ἐκεῖνο κοινοῖ τὸν ἄνθρωπον·

Phonetic (Greek): esothen gar ek tes kardias ton anthropon ohi dialogismoi ohi kakoi ekporeyontai, ⸂porneiai, klopai, phonoi,
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,"[/JESUS]

ἔσωθεν γὰρ ἐκ τῆς καρδίας τῶν ἀνθρώπων οἱ διαλογισμοὶ οἱ κακοὶ ἐκπορεύονται, ⸂πορνεῖαι, κλοπαί, φόνοι,

Phonetic (Greek): moicheiai⸃, pleonexiai, poneriai, dolos, aselgeia, ophthalmos poneros, blasphemia, hyperephania, aphrosyne·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness."[/JESUS]

μοιχεῖαι⸃, πλεονεξίαι, πονηρίαι, δόλος, ἀσέλγεια, ὀφθαλμὸς πονηρός, βλασφημία, ὑπερηφανία, ἀφροσύνη·

Phonetic (Greek): panta tayta ta ponera esothen ekporeyetai kai koinoi ton anthropon.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"All these evil things come from within and defile a man."[/JESUS]

πάντα ταῦτα τὰ πονηρὰ ἔσωθεν ἐκπορεύεται καὶ κοινοῖ τὸν ἄνθρωπον.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂Ἐkeithen de⸃ anastas apelthen eis ta ⸀horia ⸀Tyrou. kai eiselthon eis oikian oydena ethelen gnonai, kai oyk edynethe lathein·
Edified Edition (EDE)And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.

⸂Ἐκεῖθεν δὲ⸃ ἀναστὰς ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὰ ⸀ὅρια ⸀Τύρου. καὶ εἰσελθὼν εἰς οἰκίαν οὐδένα ἤθελεν γνῶναι, καὶ οὐκ ἠδυνήθη λαθεῖν·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂allʼ eythys akoysasa⸃ gyne peri aytoy, hes eichen to thygatrion aytes pneyma akatharton, elthoysa prosepesen pros toys podas aytoy·
Edified Edition (EDE)For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:

⸂ἀλλʼ εὐθὺς ἀκούσασα⸃ γυνὴ περὶ αὐτοῦ, ἧς εἶχεν τὸ θυγάτριον αὐτῆς πνεῦμα ἀκάθαρτον, ἐλθοῦσα προσέπεσεν πρὸς τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂he de gyne en⸃ Ἑllenis, Syrophoinikissa tῷ genei· kai erota ayton hina to daimonion ekbalῃ ek tes thygatros aytes.
Edified Edition (EDE)The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

⸂ἡ δὲ γυνὴ ἦν⸃ Ἑλληνίς, Συροφοινίκισσα τῷ γένει· καὶ ἠρώτα αὐτὸν ἵνα τὸ δαιμόνιον ἐκβάλῃ ἐκ τῆς θυγατρὸς αὐτῆς.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂kai elegen⸃ aytῇ· Ἄphes proton chortasthenai ta tekna, oy gar ⸂kalon estin⸃ labein ton arton ton teknon kai ⸂tois kynariois balein⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)But Jesus said to her, [JESUS]"Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs."[/JESUS]

⸂καὶ ἔλεγεν⸃ αὐτῇ· Ἄφες πρῶτον χορτασθῆναι τὰ τέκνα, οὐ γὰρ ⸂καλόν ἐστιν⸃ λαβεῖν τὸν ἄρτον τῶν τέκνων καὶ ⸂τοῖς κυναρίοις βαλεῖν⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): he de apekrithe kai legei aytῷ· ⸀Kyrie, ⸀kai ta kynaria hypokato tes trapezes ⸀esthiousin apo ton psichion ton paidion.
Edified Edition (EDE)And she answered and said to Him, "Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs."

ἡ δὲ ἀπεκρίθη καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· ⸀Κύριε, ⸀καὶ τὰ κυνάρια ὑποκάτω τῆς τραπέζης ⸀ἐσθίουσιν ἀπὸ τῶν ψιχίων τῶν παιδίων.

Phonetic (Greek): kai eipen aytῇ· Dia toyton ton logon hypage, exelelythen ⸂ek tes thygatros sou to daimonion⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then He said to her, [JESUS]"For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter."[/JESUS]

καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ· Διὰ τοῦτον τὸν λόγον ὕπαγε, ἐξελήλυθεν ⸂ἐκ τῆς θυγατρός σου τὸ δαιμόνιον⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): kai apelthoysa eis ton oikon aytes ehyren to ⸂paidion beblemenon epi ten klinen kai to daimonion exelelythos⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.

καὶ ἀπελθοῦσα εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτῆς εὗρεν τὸ ⸂παιδίον βεβλημένον ἐπὶ τὴν κλίνην καὶ τὸ δαιμόνιον ἐξεληλυθός⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai palin exelthon ek ton horion Tyrou ⸂elthen dia Sidonos eis⸃ ten thalassan tes Galilaias ana meson ton horion Dekapoleos.
Edified Edition (EDE)And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came to the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.

Καὶ πάλιν ἐξελθὼν ἐκ τῶν ὁρίων Τύρου ⸂ἦλθεν διὰ Σιδῶνος εἰς⸃ τὴν θάλασσαν τῆς Γαλιλαίας ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν ὁρίων Δεκαπόλεως.

Phonetic (Greek): kai pherousin aytῷ kophon ⸀kai ⸀mogilalon, kai parakaloysin ayton hina epithῇ aytῷ ten cheira.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they bring to him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.

καὶ φέρουσιν αὐτῷ κωφὸν ⸀καὶ ⸀μογιλάλον, καὶ παρακαλοῦσιν αὐτὸν ἵνα ἐπιθῇ αὐτῷ τὴν χεῖρα.

Phonetic (Greek): kai apolabomenos ayton apo toy ochlou katʼ idian ebalen toys daktylous aytoy eis ta ota aytoy kai ptysas hepsato tes glosses aytoy,
Edified Edition (EDE)And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;

καὶ ἀπολαβόμενος αὐτὸν ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄχλου κατʼ ἰδίαν ἔβαλεν τοὺς δακτύλους αὐτοῦ εἰς τὰ ὦτα αὐτοῦ καὶ πτύσας ἥψατο τῆς γλώσσης αὐτοῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): kai anablepsas eis ton oyranon estenaxen, kai legei aytῷ· Ephphatha, ho estin Dianoichtheti·
Edified Edition (EDE)Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, [JESUS]"Ephphatha,"[/JESUS] that is, [JESUS]"Be opened."[/JESUS]

καὶ ἀναβλέψας εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν ἐστέναξεν, καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· Εφφαθα, ὅ ἐστιν Διανοίχθητι·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀kai ⸀enoigesan aytoy ahi akoai, kai elythe ho desmos tes glosses aytoy, kai elalei orthos·
Edified Edition (EDE)And immediately his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plain.

⸀καὶ ⸀ἠνοίγησαν αὐτοῦ αἱ ἀκοαί, καὶ ἐλύθη ὁ δεσμὸς τῆς γλώσσης αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐλάλει ὀρθῶς·

Phonetic (Greek): kai diesteilato aytois hina medeni ⸀legosin· hoson de ⸂aytois diestelleto, aytoi⸃ mallon perissoteron ekerysson.
Edified Edition (EDE)And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;

καὶ διεστείλατο αὐτοῖς ἵνα μηδενὶ ⸀λέγωσιν· ὅσον δὲ ⸂αὐτοῖς διεστέλλετο, αὐτοὶ⸃ μᾶλλον περισσότερον ἐκήρυσσον.

Phonetic (Greek): kai hyperperissos exeplessonto legontes· Kalos panta pepoieken, kai toys kophoys poiei akoyein ⸀kai alalous lalein.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they were beyond measure astonished, saying, "He has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."

καὶ ὑπερπερισσῶς ἐξεπλήσσοντο λέγοντες· Καλῶς πάντα πεποίηκεν, καὶ τοὺς κωφοὺς ποιεῖ ἀκούειν ⸀καὶ ἀλάλους λαλεῖν.
