Phonetic (Greek): Ἐn ekeinῳ tῷ kairῷ eporeythe ho Ἰesoys tois sabbasin dia ton sporimon· ohi de mathetai aytoy epeinasan kai erxanto tillein stachyas kai esthiein.
Edified Edition (EDE)At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. And His disciples were hungry, and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat.

Ἐν ἐκείνῳ τῷ καιρῷ ἐπορεύθη ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοῖς σάββασιν διὰ τῶν σπορίμων· οἱ δὲ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ἐπείνασαν καὶ ἤρξαντο τίλλειν στάχυας καὶ ἐσθίειν.

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de Pharisaioi idontes eipan aytῷ· Ἰdoy ohi mathetai sou poioysin ho oyk exestin poiein en sabbatῳ.
Edified Edition (EDE)But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!"

οἱ δὲ Φαρισαῖοι ἰδόντες εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Ἰδοὺ οἱ μαθηταί σου ποιοῦσιν ὃ οὐκ ἔξεστιν ποιεῖν ἐν σαββάτῳ.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de eipen aytois· Oyk anegnote ti epoiesen Dauid hote ⸀epeinasen kai ohi metʼ aytoy;
Edified Edition (EDE)But He said to them, [JESUS]"Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him:[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε τί ἐποίησεν Δαυὶδ ὅτε ⸀ἐπείνασεν καὶ οἱ μετʼ αὐτοῦ;

Phonetic (Greek): pos eiselthen eis ton oikon toy theoy kai toys artous tes protheseos ⸂ephagon, ho⸃ oyk exon en aytῷ phagein oyde tois metʼ aytoy, ei me tois hiereysin monois;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]how he entered the house of God and ate the sacred bread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?[/JESUS]

πῶς εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τοὺς ἄρτους τῆς προθέσεως ⸂ἔφαγον, ὃ⸃ οὐκ ἐξὸν ἦν αὐτῷ φαγεῖν οὐδὲ τοῖς μετʼ αὐτοῦ, εἰ μὴ τοῖς ἱερεῦσιν μόνοις;

Phonetic (Greek): e oyk anegnote en tῷ nomῳ hoti tois sabbasin ohi hiereis en tῷ hierῷ to sabbaton bebeloysin kai anaitioi eisin;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Or have you not read in the Law that on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are blameless?"[/JESUS]

ἢ οὐκ ἀνέγνωτε ἐν τῷ νόμῳ ὅτι τοῖς σάββασιν οἱ ἱερεῖς ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ τὸ σάββατον βεβηλοῦσιν καὶ ἀναίτιοί εἰσιν;

Phonetic (Greek): lego de hymin hoti toy hieroy meizon estin hode.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But I say to you, that in this place is one greater than the temple."[/JESUS]

λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ὅτι τοῦ ἱεροῦ μεῖζόν ἐστιν ὧδε.

Phonetic (Greek): ei de egnokeite ti estin· Ἔleos thelo kai oy thysian, oyk an katedikasate toys anaitious.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless.[/JESUS]

εἰ δὲ ἐγνώκειτε τί ἐστιν· Ἔλεος θέλω καὶ οὐ θυσίαν, οὐκ ἂν κατεδικάσατε τοὺς ἀναιτίους.

Phonetic (Greek): kyrios gar estin toy sabbatou ho yhios toy anthropou.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."[/JESUS]

κύριος γάρ ἐστιν τοῦ σαββάτου ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai metabas ekeithen elthen eis ten synagogen ayton·
Edified Edition (EDE)And when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue.

Καὶ μεταβὰς ἐκεῖθεν ἦλθεν εἰς τὴν συναγωγὴν αὐτῶν·

Phonetic (Greek): kai idoy ⸀anthropos cheira echon xeran. kai eperotesan ayton legontes· Ei exesti tois sabbasin ⸀therapeyein; hina kategoresosin aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?": that they might accuse Him.

καὶ ἰδοὺ ⸀ἄνθρωπος χεῖρα ἔχων ξηράν. καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν λέγοντες· Εἰ ἔξεστι τοῖς σάββασιν ⸀θεραπεύειν; ἵνα κατηγορήσωσιν αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de eipen aytois· Tis ⸀estai ex hymon anthropos hos hexei probaton hen, kai ean empesῃ toyto tois sabbasin eis bothynon, oychi kratesei ayto kai egerei;
Edified Edition (EDE)Then He said to them, [JESUS]"What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out?[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τίς ⸀ἔσται ἐξ ὑμῶν ἄνθρωπος ὃς ἕξει πρόβατον ἕν, καὶ ἐὰν ἐμπέσῃ τοῦτο τοῖς σάββασιν εἰς βόθυνον, οὐχὶ κρατήσει αὐτὸ καὶ ἐγερεῖ;

Phonetic (Greek): posῳ oyn diapherei anthropos probatou. hoste exestin tois sabbasin kalos poiein.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath."[/JESUS]

πόσῳ οὖν διαφέρει ἄνθρωπος προβάτου. ὥστε ἔξεστιν τοῖς σάββασιν καλῶς ποιεῖν.

Phonetic (Greek): tote legei tῷ anthropῳ· Ἔkteinon ⸂sou ten cheira⸃· kai exeteinen, kai apekatestathe hygies hos he alle.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then He said to the man, [JESUS]"Stretch out your hand."[/JESUS] And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other.

τότε λέγει τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ· Ἔκτεινόν ⸂σου τὴν χεῖρα⸃· καὶ ἐξέτεινεν, καὶ ἀπεκατεστάθη ὑγιὴς ὡς ἡ ἄλλη.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂exelthontes de ohi Pharisaioi symboylion elabon katʼ aytoy⸃ hopos ayton apolesosin.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

⸂ἐξελθόντες δὲ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι συμβούλιον ἔλαβον κατʼ αὐτοῦ⸃ ὅπως αὐτὸν ἀπολέσωσιν.

Edified Edition (EDE)But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;

Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς γνοὺς ἀνεχώρησεν ἐκεῖθεν. καὶ ἠκολούθησαν ⸀αὐτῷ πολλοί, καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν αὐτοὺς πάντας,

Edified Edition (EDE)And charged them that they should not make him known:

καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτοῖς ἵνα μὴ φανερὸν αὐτὸν ποιήσωσιν,

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀hina plerothῇ to ῥethen dia Ἠsaiou toy prophetou legontos·
Edified Edition (EDE)That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying,

⸀ἵνα πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος·

Phonetic (Greek): Ἰdoy ho pais mou hon heretisa, ho agapetos mou ⸂eis hon⸃ eydokesen he psyche mou· theso to pneyma mou epʼ ayton, kai krisin tois ethnesin apangelei.
Edified Edition (EDE)Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall show judgement to the Gentiles.

Ἰδοὺ ὁ παῖς μου ὃν ᾑρέτισα, ὁ ἀγαπητός μου ⸂εἰς ὃν⸃ εὐδόκησεν ἡ ψυχή μου· θήσω τὸ πνεῦμά μου ἐπʼ αὐτόν, καὶ κρίσιν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ἀπαγγελεῖ.

Phonetic (Greek): oyk erisei oyde kraugasei, oyde akoysei tis en tais plateiais ten phonen aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.

οὐκ ἐρίσει οὐδὲ κραυγάσει, οὐδὲ ἀκούσει τις ἐν ταῖς πλατείαις τὴν φωνὴν αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): kalamon syntetrimmenon oy kateaxei kai linon typhomenon oy sbesei, heos an ekbalῃ eis nikos ten krisin.
Edified Edition (EDE)A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgement to victory.

κάλαμον συντετριμμένον οὐ κατεάξει καὶ λίνον τυφόμενον οὐ σβέσει, ἕως ἂν ἐκβάλῃ εἰς νῖκος τὴν κρίσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai tῷ onomati aytoy ethne elpioysin.
Edified Edition (EDE)And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.

καὶ τῷ ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ ἔθνη ἐλπιοῦσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote ⸂prosenechthe aytῷ daimonizomenos typhlos kai kophos⸃· kai etherapeusen ayton, hoste ton ⸀kophon lalein kai blepein.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then was brought to him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spoke and saw.

Τότε ⸂προσηνέχθη αὐτῷ δαιμονιζόμενος τυφλὸς καὶ κωφός⸃· καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν αὐτόν, ὥστε τὸν ⸀κωφὸν λαλεῖν καὶ βλέπειν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai existanto pantes ohi ochloi kai elegon· Meti ohytos estin ho yhios Dauid;
Edified Edition (EDE)And all the people were amazed, and said, "Is not this the son of David?"

καὶ ἐξίσταντο πάντες οἱ ὄχλοι καὶ ἔλεγον· Μήτι οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς Δαυίδ;

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de Pharisaioi akoysantes eipon· Ohytos oyk ekballei ta daimonia ei me en tῷ Beelzeboyl archonti ton daimonion.
Edified Edition (EDE)But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, "This fellow does not cast out demons, but by Beelzebub the prince of the demons."

οἱ δὲ Φαρισαῖοι ἀκούσαντες εἶπον· Οὗτος οὐκ ἐκβάλλει τὰ δαιμόνια εἰ μὴ ἐν τῷ Βεελζεβοὺλ ἄρχοντι τῶν δαιμονίων.

Phonetic (Greek): eidos ⸀de tas enthymeseis ayton eipen aytois· Pasa basileia meristheisa kathʼ heautes eremoytai, kai pasa polis e oikia meristheisa kathʼ heautes oy stathesetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them, [JESUS]"Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:"[/JESUS]

εἰδὼς ⸀δὲ τὰς ἐνθυμήσεις αὐτῶν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Πᾶσα βασιλεία μερισθεῖσα καθʼ ἑαυτῆς ἐρημοῦται, καὶ πᾶσα πόλις ἢ οἰκία μερισθεῖσα καθʼ ἑαυτῆς οὐ σταθήσεται.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ei ho Satanas ton Satanan ekballei, ephʼ heauton emeristhe· pos oyn stathesetai he basileia aytoy;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself; how then will his kingdom stand?"[/JESUS]

καὶ εἰ ὁ Σατανᾶς τὸν Σατανᾶν ἐκβάλλει, ἐφʼ ἑαυτὸν ἐμερίσθη· πῶς οὖν σταθήσεται ἡ βασιλεία αὐτοῦ;

Phonetic (Greek): kai ei ego en Beelzeboyl ekballo ta daimonia, ohi yhioi hymon en tini ekballousin; dia toyto aytoi ⸂kritai esontai hymon⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And if I by Beelzebub cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges."[/JESUS]

καὶ εἰ ἐγὼ ἐν Βεελζεβοὺλ ἐκβάλλω τὰ δαιμόνια, οἱ υἱοὶ ὑμῶν ἐν τίνι ἐκβάλλουσιν; διὰ τοῦτο αὐτοὶ ⸂κριταὶ ἔσονται ὑμῶν⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): ei de en pneymati theoy ego ekballo ta daimonia, ara ephthasen ephʼ hymas he basileia toy theoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you."[/JESUS]

εἰ δὲ ἐν πνεύματι θεοῦ ἐγὼ ἐκβάλλω τὰ δαιμόνια, ἄρα ἔφθασεν ἐφʼ ὑμᾶς ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): e pos dynatai tis eiselthein eis ten oikian toy ischyroy kai ta skeye aytoy ⸀harpasai, ean me proton desῃ ton ischyron; kai tote ten oikian aytoy ⸀diarpasei.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house."[/JESUS]

ἢ πῶς δύναταί τις εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν τοῦ ἰσχυροῦ καὶ τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ ⸀ἁρπάσαι, ἐὰν μὴ πρῶτον δήσῃ τὸν ἰσχυρόν; καὶ τότε τὴν οἰκίαν αὐτοῦ ⸀διαρπάσει.

Phonetic (Greek): ho me on metʼ emoy katʼ emoy estin, kai ho me synagon metʼ emoy skorpizei.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad."[/JESUS]

ὁ μὴ ὢν μετʼ ἐμοῦ κατʼ ἐμοῦ ἐστιν, καὶ ὁ μὴ συνάγων μετʼ ἐμοῦ σκορπίζει.

Phonetic (Greek): dia toyto lego hymin, pasa hamartia kai blasphemia aphethesetai tois anthropois, he de toy pneymatos blasphemia oyk ⸀aphethesetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men."[/JESUS]

διὰ τοῦτο λέγω ὑμῖν, πᾶσα ἁμαρτία καὶ βλασφημία ἀφεθήσεται τοῖς ἀνθρώποις, ἡ δὲ τοῦ πνεύματος βλασφημία οὐκ ⸀ἀφεθήσεται.

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, neither in this age nor in the age to come."[/JESUS]

καὶ ὃς ἐὰν εἴπῃ λόγον κατὰ τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου, ἀφεθήσεται αὐτῷ· ὃς δʼ ἂν εἴπῃ κατὰ τοῦ πνεύματος τοῦ ἁγίου, οὐκ ἀφεθήσεται αὐτῷ οὔτε ἐν ⸂τούτῳ τῷ⸃ αἰῶνι οὔτε ἐν τῷ μέλλοντι.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἢ poiesate to dendron kalon kai ton karpon aytoy kalon, e poiesate to dendron sapron kai ton karpon aytoy sapron· ek gar toy karpoy to dendron ginosketai.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit."[/JESUS]

Ἢ ποιήσατε τὸ δένδρον καλὸν καὶ τὸν καρπὸν αὐτοῦ καλόν, ἢ ποιήσατε τὸ δένδρον σαπρὸν καὶ τὸν καρπὸν αὐτοῦ σαπρόν· ἐκ γὰρ τοῦ καρποῦ τὸ δένδρον γινώσκεται.

Phonetic (Greek): gennemata echidnon, pos dynasthe agatha lalein poneroi ontes; ek gar toy perisseymatos tes kardias to stoma lalei.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks."[/JESUS]

γεννήματα ἐχιδνῶν, πῶς δύνασθε ἀγαθὰ λαλεῖν πονηροὶ ὄντες; ἐκ γὰρ τοῦ περισσεύματος τῆς καρδίας τὸ στόμα λαλεῖ.

Phonetic (Greek): ho agathos anthropos ek toy agathoy thesauroy ekballei agatha, kai ho poneros anthropos ek toy poneroy thesauroy ekballei ponera.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"A good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things."[/JESUS]

ὁ ἀγαθὸς ἄνθρωπος ἐκ τοῦ ἀγαθοῦ θησαυροῦ ἐκβάλλει ἀγαθά, καὶ ὁ πονηρὸς ἄνθρωπος ἐκ τοῦ πονηροῦ θησαυροῦ ἐκβάλλει πονηρά.

Phonetic (Greek): lego de hymin hoti pan ῥema argon ho ⸀lalesousin ohi anthropoi, apodosousin peri aytoy logon en hemerᾳ kriseos·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But I say to you, that for every idle word men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgement."[/JESUS]

λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ὅτι πᾶν ῥῆμα ἀργὸν ὃ ⸀λαλήσουσιν οἱ ἄνθρωποι, ἀποδώσουσιν περὶ αὐτοῦ λόγον ἐν ἡμέρᾳ κρίσεως·

Phonetic (Greek): ek gar ton logon sou dikaiothesῃ, kai ek ton logon sou katadikasthesῃ.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."[/JESUS]

ἐκ γὰρ τῶν λόγων σου δικαιωθήσῃ, καὶ ἐκ τῶν λόγων σου καταδικασθήσῃ.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote apekrithesan ⸀aytῷ tines ton grammateon kai Pharisaion legontes· Didaskale, thelomen apo soy semeion idein.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from You."

Τότε ἀπεκρίθησαν ⸀αὐτῷ τινες τῶν γραμματέων καὶ Φαρισαίων λέγοντες· Διδάσκαλε, θέλομεν ἀπὸ σοῦ σημεῖον ἰδεῖν.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de apokritheis eipen aytois· Genea ponera kai moichalis semeion epizetei, kai semeion oy dothesetai aytῇ ei me to semeion Ἰona toy prophetou.
Edified Edition (EDE)But He answered and said to them, [JESUS]"An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Γενεὰ πονηρὰ καὶ μοιχαλὶς σημεῖον ἐπιζητεῖ, καὶ σημεῖον οὐ δοθήσεται αὐτῇ εἰ μὴ τὸ σημεῖον Ἰωνᾶ τοῦ προφήτου.

Phonetic (Greek): hosper gar en Ἰonas en tῇ koiliᾳ toy ketous treis hemeras kai treis nyktas, ohytos estai ho yhios toy anthropou en tῇ kardiᾳ tes ges treis hemeras kai treis nyktas.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."[/JESUS]

ὥσπερ γὰρ ἦν Ἰωνᾶς ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ τοῦ κήτους τρεῖς ἡμέρας καὶ τρεῖς νύκτας, οὕτως ἔσται ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ τῆς γῆς τρεῖς ἡμέρας καὶ τρεῖς νύκτας.

Phonetic (Greek): andres Nineuitai anastesontai en tῇ krisei meta tes geneas taytes kai katakrinoysin ayten· hoti metenoesan eis to kerygma Ἰona, kai idoy pleion Ἰona hode.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgement with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and, behold, a greater than Jonah is here."[/JESUS]

ἄνδρες Νινευῖται ἀναστήσονται ἐν τῇ κρίσει μετὰ τῆς γενεᾶς ταύτης καὶ κατακρινοῦσιν αὐτήν· ὅτι μετενόησαν εἰς τὸ κήρυγμα Ἰωνᾶ, καὶ ἰδοὺ πλεῖον Ἰωνᾶ ὧδε.

τότε πορεύεται καὶ παραλαμβάνει μεθʼ ἑαυτοῦ ἑπτὰ ἕτερα πνεύματα πονηρότερα ἑαυτοῦ, καὶ εἰσελθόντα κατοικεῖ ἐκεῖ· καὶ γίνεται τὰ ἔσχατα τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκείνου χείρονα τῶν πρώτων. οὕτως ἔσται καὶ τῇ γενεᾷ ταύτῃ τῇ πονηρᾷ.
