Edified Edition (EDE)On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea.

⸀Ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐξελθὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ⸀τῆς οἰκίας ἐκάθητο παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν·

Phonetic (Greek): kai synechthesan pros ayton ochloi polloi, hoste ayton ⸀eis ploion embanta kathesthai, kai pas ho ochlos epi ton aigialon ehistekei.
Edified Edition (EDE)And great multitudes were gathered together to him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

καὶ συνήχθησαν πρὸς αὐτὸν ὄχλοι πολλοί, ὥστε αὐτὸν ⸀εἰς πλοῖον ἐμβάντα καθῆσθαι, καὶ πᾶς ὁ ὄχλος ἐπὶ τὸν αἰγιαλὸν εἱστήκει.

Phonetic (Greek): kai elalesen aytois polla en parabolais legon· Ἰdoy exelthen ho speiron toy speirein.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: [JESUS]"Behold, a sower went out to sow.[/JESUS]

καὶ ἐλάλησεν αὐτοῖς πολλὰ ἐν παραβολαῖς λέγων· Ἰδοὺ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ σπείρων τοῦ σπείρειν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai en tῷ speirein ayton ha men epesen para ten hodon, kai ⸂elthonta ta peteina⸃ katephagen ayta.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them.[/JESUS]

καὶ ἐν τῷ σπείρειν αὐτὸν ἃ μὲν ἔπεσεν παρὰ τὴν ὁδόν, καὶ ⸂ἐλθόντα τὰ πετεινὰ⸃ κατέφαγεν αὐτά.

Phonetic (Greek): alla de epesen epi ta petrode hopou oyk eichen gen pollen, kai eytheos exaneteilen dia to me echein bathos ges,
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:"[/JESUS]

ἄλλα δὲ ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ τὰ πετρώδη ὅπου οὐκ εἶχεν γῆν πολλήν, καὶ εὐθέως ἐξανέτειλεν διὰ τὸ μὴ ἔχειν βάθος γῆς,

Phonetic (Greek): heliou de anateilantos ekaumatisthe kai dia to me echein ῥizan exeranthe.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away."[/JESUS]

ἡλίου δὲ ἀνατείλαντος ἐκαυματίσθη καὶ διὰ τὸ μὴ ἔχειν ῥίζαν ἐξηράνθη.

Phonetic (Greek): alla de epesen epi tas akanthas, kai anebesan ahi akanthai kai ⸀epnixan ayta.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:"[/JESUS]

ἄλλα δὲ ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ τὰς ἀκάνθας, καὶ ἀνέβησαν αἱ ἄκανθαι καὶ ⸀ἔπνιξαν αὐτά.

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.[/JESUS]

ἄλλα δὲ ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν τὴν καλὴν καὶ ἐδίδου καρπόν, ὃ μὲν ἑκατὸν ὃ δὲ ἑξήκοντα ὃ δὲ τριάκοντα.

Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"[/JESUS]

ὁ ἔχων ⸀ὦτα ἀκουέτω.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai proselthontes ohi mathetai eipan aytῷ· Dia ti en parabolais laleis aytois;
Edified Edition (EDE)And the disciples came, and said to him, "Why speak you to them in parables?"

Καὶ προσελθόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ· Διὰ τί ἐν παραβολαῖς λαλεῖς αὐτοῖς;

Phonetic (Greek): ho de apokritheis eipen ⸀aytois· Ὅti hymin dedotai gnonai ta mysteria tes basileias ton oyranon, ekeinois de oy dedotai.
Edified Edition (EDE)He answered and said to them, [JESUS]"Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν ⸀αὐτοῖς· Ὅτι ὑμῖν δέδοται γνῶναι τὰ μυστήρια τῆς βασιλείας τῶν οὐρανῶν, ἐκείνοις δὲ οὐ δέδοται.

Phonetic (Greek): hostis gar echei, dothesetai aytῷ kai perisseuthesetai· hostis de oyk echei, kai ho echei arthesetai apʼ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For whoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whoever has not, from him shall be taken away even that he has."[/JESUS]

ὅστις γὰρ ἔχει, δοθήσεται αὐτῷ καὶ περισσευθήσεται· ὅστις δὲ οὐκ ἔχει, καὶ ὃ ἔχει ἀρθήσεται ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): dia toyto en parabolais aytois lalo, hoti blepontes oy blepousin kai akoyontes oyk akoyousin oyde syniousin·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand."[/JESUS]

διὰ τοῦτο ἐν παραβολαῖς αὐτοῖς λαλῶ, ὅτι βλέποντες οὐ βλέπουσιν καὶ ἀκούοντες οὐκ ἀκούουσιν οὐδὲ συνίουσιν·

Phonetic (Greek): kai anapleroytai aytois he propheteia Ἠsaiou he legousa· Ἀkoῇ akoysete kai oy me synete, kai blepontes blepsete kai oy me idete.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says, By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive:"[/JESUS]

καὶ ἀναπληροῦται αὐτοῖς ἡ προφητεία Ἠσαΐου ἡ λέγουσα· Ἀκοῇ ἀκούσετε καὶ οὐ μὴ συνῆτε, καὶ βλέποντες βλέψετε καὶ οὐ μὴ ἴδητε.

Phonetic (Greek): epachynthe gar he kardia toy laoy toytou, kai tois osin bareos ekousan, kai toys ophthalmoys ayton ekammysan· mepote idosin tois ophthalmois kai tois osin akoysosin kai tῇ kardiᾳ synosin kai epistrepsosin, kai iasomai aytoys.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them."[/JESUS]

ἐπαχύνθη γὰρ ἡ καρδία τοῦ λαοῦ τούτου, καὶ τοῖς ὠσὶν βαρέως ἤκουσαν, καὶ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῶν ἐκάμμυσαν· μήποτε ἴδωσιν τοῖς ὀφθαλμοῖς καὶ τοῖς ὠσὶν ἀκούσωσιν καὶ τῇ καρδίᾳ συνῶσιν καὶ ἐπιστρέψωσιν, καὶ ἰάσομαι αὐτούς.

Phonetic (Greek): hymon de makarioi ohi ophthalmoi hoti blepousin, kai ta ota hymon hoti ⸀akoyousin.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear;[/JESUS]

ὑμῶν δὲ μακάριοι οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ ὅτι βλέπουσιν, καὶ τὰ ὦτα ὑμῶν ὅτι ⸀ἀκούουσιν.

Phonetic (Greek): amen gar lego hymin hoti polloi prophetai kai dikaioi epethymesan idein ha blepete kai oyk eidan, kai akoysai ha akoyete kai oyk ekousan.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For truly I say to you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them."[/JESUS]

ἀμὴν γὰρ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι πολλοὶ προφῆται καὶ δίκαιοι ἐπεθύμησαν ἰδεῖν ἃ βλέπετε καὶ οὐκ εἶδαν, καὶ ἀκοῦσαι ἃ ἀκούετε καὶ οὐκ ἤκουσαν.

Phonetic (Greek): Ὑmeis oyn akoysate ten parabolen toy ⸀speirantos.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Therefore hear the parable of the sower:[/JESUS]

Ὑμεῖς οὖν ἀκούσατε τὴν παραβολὴν τοῦ ⸀σπείραντος.

Phonetic (Greek): pantos akoyontos ton logon tes basileias kai me synientos, erchetai ho poneros kai harpazei to esparmenon en tῇ kardiᾳ aytoy· ohytos estin ho para ten hodon spareis.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside."[/JESUS]

παντὸς ἀκούοντος τὸν λόγον τῆς βασιλείας καὶ μὴ συνιέντος, ἔρχεται ὁ πονηρὸς καὶ ἁρπάζει τὸ ἐσπαρμένον ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ· οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ παρὰ τὴν ὁδὸν σπαρείς.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de epi ta petrode spareis, ohytos estin ho ton logon akoyon kai eythys meta charas lambanon ayton,
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that hears the word, and anon with joy receivs it;"[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ἐπὶ τὰ πετρώδη σπαρείς, οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ τὸν λόγον ἀκούων καὶ εὐθὺς μετὰ χαρᾶς λαμβάνων αὐτόν,

Phonetic (Greek): oyk echei de ῥizan en heautῷ alla proskairos estin, genomenes de thlipseos e diogmoy dia ton logon eythys skandalizetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Yet has he not root in himself, but durs for a while: for when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, by and by he is offended."[/JESUS]

οὐκ ἔχει δὲ ῥίζαν ἐν ἑαυτῷ ἀλλὰ πρόσκαιρός ἐστιν, γενομένης δὲ θλίψεως ἢ διωγμοῦ διὰ τὸν λόγον εὐθὺς σκανδαλίζεται.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de eis tas akanthas spareis, ohytos estin ho ton logon akoyon, kai he merimna toy aionos ⸀toytou kai he apate toy ploytou sympnigei ton logon, kai akarpos ginetai.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"He also that received seed among the thorns is he that hears the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becoms unfruitful."[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ εἰς τὰς ἀκάνθας σπαρείς, οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ τὸν λόγον ἀκούων, καὶ ἡ μέριμνα τοῦ αἰῶνος ⸀τούτου καὶ ἡ ἀπάτη τοῦ πλούτου συμπνίγει τὸν λόγον, καὶ ἄκαρπος γίνεται.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de epi ten ⸂kalen gen⸃ spareis, ohytos estin ho ton logon akoyon kai ⸀synieis, hos de karpophorei kai poiei ho men hekaton ho de hexekonta ho de triakonta.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"But he that received seed into the good ground is he that hears the word, and understands it; which also bears fruit, and brings forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty."[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ἐπὶ τὴν ⸂καλὴν γῆν⸃ σπαρείς, οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ τὸν λόγον ἀκούων καὶ ⸀συνιείς, ὃς δὴ καρποφορεῖ καὶ ποιεῖ ὃ μὲν ἑκατὸν ὃ δὲ ἑξήκοντα ὃ δὲ τριάκοντα.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἄllen parabolen paretheken aytois legon· Ὡmoiothe he basileia ton oyranon anthropῳ ⸀speiranti kalon sperma en tῷ agrῷ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Another parable He put forth to them, saying: [JESUS]"The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field;[/JESUS]

Ἄλλην παραβολὴν παρέθηκεν αὐτοῖς λέγων· Ὡμοιώθη ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν ἀνθρώπῳ ⸀σπείραντι καλὸν σπέρμα ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): en de tῷ katheydein toys anthropous elthen aytoy ho echthros kai ⸀epespeiren zizania ana meson toy sitou kai apelthen.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went his way.[/JESUS]

ἐν δὲ τῷ καθεύδειν τοὺς ἀνθρώπους ἦλθεν αὐτοῦ ὁ ἐχθρὸς καὶ ⸀ἐπέσπειρεν ζιζάνια ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ σίτου καὶ ἀπῆλθεν.

Phonetic (Greek): hote de eblastesen ho chortos kai karpon epoiesen, tote ephane kai ta zizania.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the weeds also appeared.[/JESUS]

ὅτε δὲ ἐβλάστησεν ὁ χόρτος καὶ καρπὸν ἐποίησεν, τότε ἐφάνη καὶ τὰ ζιζάνια.

Phonetic (Greek): proselthontes de ohi doyloi toy oikodespotou eipon aytῷ· Kyrie, oychi kalon sperma ⸀espeiras en tῷ sῷ agrῷ; pothen oyn echei zizania;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]So the servants of the owner came and said to him, 'Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?'[/JESUS]

προσελθόντες δὲ οἱ δοῦλοι τοῦ οἰκοδεσπότου εἶπον αὐτῷ· Κύριε, οὐχὶ καλὸν σπέρμα ⸀ἔσπειρας ἐν τῷ σῷ ἀγρῷ; πόθεν οὖν ἔχει ζιζάνια;

Phonetic (Greek): ho de ephe aytois· Ἐchthros anthropos toyto epoiesen. ohi de ⸂doyloi aytῷ legousin⸃· Theleis oyn apelthontes ⸀syllexomen ayta;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.' The servants said to him, 'Do you want us then to go and gather them up?'[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ἔφη αὐτοῖς· Ἐχθρὸς ἄνθρωπος τοῦτο ἐποίησεν. οἱ δὲ ⸂δοῦλοι αὐτῷ λέγουσιν⸃· Θέλεις οὖν ἀπελθόντες ⸀συλλέξωμεν αὐτά;

Phonetic (Greek): ho de ⸀phesin· Oy, mepote syllegontes ta zizania ekrizosete hama aytois ton siton·
Edified Edition (EDE)But he said, [JESUS]"No, lest while you gather up the weeds, you also root up the wheat with them.[/JESUS]

ὁ δέ ⸀φησιν· Οὔ, μήποτε συλλέγοντες τὰ ζιζάνια ἐκριζώσητε ἅμα αὐτοῖς τὸν σῖτον·

Phonetic (Greek): aphete synauxanesthai amphotera ⸀mechri toy therismoy· kai en kairῷ toy therismoy ero tois theristais· Syllexate proton ta zizania kai desate ayta eis desmas pros to katakaysai ayta, ton de siton ⸀synagagete eis ten apotheken mou.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, 'First gather together the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.'"[/JESUS]

ἄφετε συναυξάνεσθαι ἀμφότερα ⸀μέχρι τοῦ θερισμοῦ· καὶ ἐν καιρῷ τοῦ θερισμοῦ ἐρῶ τοῖς θερισταῖς· Συλλέξατε πρῶτον τὰ ζιζάνια καὶ δήσατε αὐτὰ εἰς δέσμας πρὸς τὸ κατακαῦσαι αὐτά, τὸν δὲ σῖτον ⸀συναγάγετε εἰς τὴν ἀποθήκην μου.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἄllen parabolen paretheken aytois legon· Ὁmoia estin he basileia ton oyranon kokkῳ sinapeos, hon labon anthropos espeiren en tῷ agrῷ aytoy·
Edified Edition (EDE)Another parable He put forth to them, saying: [JESUS]"The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field,[/JESUS]

Ἄλλην παραβολὴν παρέθηκεν αὐτοῖς λέγων· Ὁμοία ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν κόκκῳ σινάπεως, ὃν λαβὼν ἄνθρωπος ἔσπειρεν ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ αὐτοῦ·

Phonetic (Greek): ho mikroteron men estin panton ton spermaton, hotan de ayxethῇ meizon ton lachanon estin kai ginetai dendron, hoste elthein ta peteina toy oyranoy kai kataskenoyn en tois kladois aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becoms a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof."[/JESUS]

ὃ μικρότερον μέν ἐστιν πάντων τῶν σπερμάτων, ὅταν δὲ αὐξηθῇ μεῖζον τῶν λαχάνων ἐστὶν καὶ γίνεται δένδρον, ὥστε ἐλθεῖν τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ κατασκηνοῦν ἐν τοῖς κλάδοις αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἄllen parabolen elalesen aytois· Ὁmoia estin he basileia ton oyranon zymῃ, hen laboysa gyne ⸀enekrypsen eis aleyrou sata tria heos ohy ezymothe holon.
Edified Edition (EDE)Another parable He spoke to them: [JESUS]"The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened."[/JESUS]

Ἄλλην παραβολὴν ἐλάλησεν αὐτοῖς· Ὁμοία ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν ζύμῃ, ἣν λαβοῦσα γυνὴ ⸀ἐνέκρυψεν εἰς ἀλεύρου σάτα τρία ἕως οὗ ἐζυμώθη ὅλον.

Phonetic (Greek): Tayta panta elalesen ho Ἰesoys en parabolais tois ochlois, kai choris paraboles ⸀oyden elalei aytois·
Edified Edition (EDE)All these things spoke Jesus to the multitude in parables; and without a parable spoke he not to them:

Ταῦτα πάντα ἐλάλησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐν παραβολαῖς τοῖς ὄχλοις, καὶ χωρὶς παραβολῆς ⸀οὐδὲν ἐλάλει αὐτοῖς·

Phonetic (Greek): hopos plerothῇ to ῥethen dia toy prophetou legontos· Ἀnoixo en parabolais to stoma mou, ereyxomai kekrymmena apo ⸀kataboles.
Edified Edition (EDE)That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, "I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world."

ὅπως πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος· Ἀνοίξω ἐν παραβολαῖς τὸ στόμα μου, ἐρεύξομαι κεκρυμμένα ἀπὸ ⸀καταβολῆς.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote apheis toys ochlous elthen eis ten ⸀oikian. kai proselthon aytῷ ohi mathetai aytoy legontes· ⸀Diasapheson hemin ten parabolen ton zizanion toy agroy.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field."

Τότε ἀφεὶς τοὺς ὄχλους ἦλθεν εἰς τὴν ⸀οἰκίαν. καὶ προσῆλθον αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ λέγοντες· ⸀Διασάφησον ἡμῖν τὴν παραβολὴν τῶν ζιζανίων τοῦ ἀγροῦ.

Edified Edition (EDE)He answered and said to them: [JESUS]"He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς ⸀εἶπεν· Ὁ σπείρων τὸ καλὸν σπέρμα ἐστὶν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου·

Phonetic (Greek): ho de agros estin ho kosmos· to de kalon sperma, ohytoi eisin ohi yhioi tes basileias· ta de zizania eisin ohi yhioi toy poneroy,
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the weeds are the sons of the wicked one.[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ἀγρός ἐστιν ὁ κόσμος· τὸ δὲ καλὸν σπέρμα, οὗτοί εἰσιν οἱ υἱοὶ τῆς βασιλείας· τὰ δὲ ζιζάνιά εἰσιν οἱ υἱοὶ τοῦ πονηροῦ,

Phonetic (Greek): ho de echthros ho speiras ayta estin ho diabolos· ho de therismos synteleia ⸀aionos estin, ohi de theristai angeloi eisin.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels."[/JESUS]
