Chapter 16
1
Phonetic (Greek): Kai proselthontes ohi Pharisaioi kai Saddoukaioi peirazontes eperotesan ayton semeion ek toy oyranoy epideixai aytois.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven.

Καὶ προσελθόντες οἱ Φαρισαῖοι καὶ Σαδδουκαῖοι πειράζοντες ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν σημεῖον ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἐπιδεῖξαι αὐτοῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de apokritheis eipen aytois· ⸂Ὀpsias genomenes legete· Eydia, pyrrazei gar ho oyranos·
Edified Edition (EDE)He answered and said to them, [JESUS]"When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.'"[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· ⸂Ὀψίας γενομένης λέγετε· Εὐδία, πυρράζει γὰρ ὁ οὐρανός·

Phonetic (Greek): kai proi· Semeron cheimon, pyrrazei gar stygnazon ho oyranos. ⸀to men prosopon toy oyranoy ginoskete diakrinein, ta de semeia ton kairon oy dynasthe.⸃
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]And in the morning, "It will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and threatening." You hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky; but can you not discern the signs of the times?[/JESUS]

καὶ πρωΐ· Σήμερον χειμών, πυρράζει γὰρ στυγνάζων ὁ οὐρανός. ⸀τὸ μὲν πρόσωπον τοῦ οὐρανοῦ γινώσκετε διακρίνειν, τὰ δὲ σημεῖα τῶν καιρῶν οὐ δύνασθε.⸃

Phonetic (Greek): Genea ponera kai moichalis semeion epizetei, kai semeion oy dothesetai aytῇ ei me to semeion ⸀Ἰona. kai katalipon aytoys apelthen.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah."[/JESUS]

Γενεὰ πονηρὰ καὶ μοιχαλὶς σημεῖον ἐπιζητεῖ, καὶ σημεῖον οὐ δοθήσεται αὐτῇ εἰ μὴ τὸ σημεῖον ⸀Ἰωνᾶ. καὶ καταλιπὼν αὐτοὺς ἀπῆλθεν.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai elthontes ohi ⸀mathetai eis to peran epelathonto artous labein.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.

Καὶ ἐλθόντες οἱ ⸀μαθηταὶ εἰς τὸ πέραν ἐπελάθοντο ἄρτους λαβεῖν.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de Ἰesoys eipen aytois· Ὁrate kai prosechete apo tes zymes ton Pharisaion kai Saddoukaion.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus said to them, [JESUS]"Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees."[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ὁρᾶτε καὶ προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῆς ζύμης τῶν Φαρισαίων καὶ Σαδδουκαίων.

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de dielogizonto en heautois legontes hoti Ἄrtous oyk elabomen.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "It is because we have taken no bread."

οἱ δὲ διελογίζοντο ἐν ἑαυτοῖς λέγοντες ὅτι Ἄρτους οὐκ ἐλάβομεν.

Phonetic (Greek): gnoys de ho Ἰesoys ⸀eipen· Ti dialogizesthe en heautois, oligopistoi, hoti artous oyk ⸀elabete;
Edified Edition (EDE)Which when Jesus perceived, he said to them, [JESUS]"O you of little faith, why reason you among yourselves, because you have brought no bread?"[/JESUS]

γνοὺς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ⸀εἶπεν· Τί διαλογίζεσθε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς, ὀλιγόπιστοι, ὅτι ἄρτους οὐκ ⸀ἐλάβετε;

Phonetic (Greek): oypo noeite, oyde mnemoneyete toys pente artous ton pentakischilion kai posous kophinous elabete;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Do you not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up?"[/JESUS]

οὔπω νοεῖτε, οὐδὲ μνημονεύετε τοὺς πέντε ἄρτους τῶν πεντακισχιλίων καὶ πόσους κοφίνους ἐλάβετε;

Phonetic (Greek): oyde toys hepta artous ton tetrakischilion kai posas spyridas elabete;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?"[/JESUS]

οὐδὲ τοὺς ἑπτὰ ἄρτους τῶν τετρακισχιλίων καὶ πόσας σπυρίδας ἐλάβετε;

Phonetic (Greek): pos oy noeite hoti oy peri ⸀arton eipon hymin; ⸂prosechete de⸃ apo tes zymes ton Pharisaion kai Saddoukaion.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"How is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? But to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees."[/JESUS]

πῶς οὐ νοεῖτε ὅτι οὐ περὶ ⸀ἄρτων εἶπον ὑμῖν; ⸂προσέχετε δὲ⸃ ἀπὸ τῆς ζύμης τῶν Φαρισαίων καὶ Σαδδουκαίων.

Phonetic (Greek): tote synekan hoti oyk eipen prosechein apo tes zymes ⸂ton arton⸃ alla apo tes didaches ton Pharisaion kai Saddoukaion.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

τότε συνῆκαν ὅτι οὐκ εἶπεν προσέχειν ἀπὸ τῆς ζύμης ⸂τῶν ἄρτων⸃ ἀλλὰ ἀπὸ τῆς διδαχῆς τῶν Φαρισαίων καὶ Σαδδουκαίων.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἐlthon de ho Ἰesoys eis ta mere Kaisareias tes Philippou erota toys mathetas aytoy legon· ⸀Tina legousin ohi anthropoi einai ton yhion toy anthropou;
Edified Edition (EDE)When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, [JESUS]"Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?"[/JESUS]

Ἐλθὼν δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἰς τὰ μέρη Καισαρείας τῆς Φιλίππου ἠρώτα τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ λέγων· ⸀Τίνα λέγουσιν οἱ ἄνθρωποι εἶναι τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου;

Phonetic (Greek): ohi de eipan· Ohi men Ἰoannen ton baptisten, alloi de Ἠlian, heteroi de Ἰeremian e hena ton propheton.
Edified Edition (EDE)And they said, "Some say that you are John the Baptist: some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."

οἱ δὲ εἶπαν· Οἱ μὲν Ἰωάννην τὸν βαπτιστήν, ἄλλοι δὲ Ἠλίαν, ἕτεροι δὲ Ἰερεμίαν ἢ ἕνα τῶν προφητῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): legei aytois· Ὑmeis de tina me legete einai;
Edified Edition (EDE)He said to them, [JESUS]"But who do you say that I am?"[/JESUS]

λέγει αὐτοῖς· Ὑμεῖς δὲ τίνα με λέγετε εἶναι;

Phonetic (Greek): apokritheis de Simon Petros eipen· Sy ei ho christos ho yhios toy theoy toy zontos.
Edified Edition (EDE)Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Σίμων Πέτρος εἶπεν· Σὺ εἶ ὁ χριστὸς ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ζῶντος.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂apokritheis de⸃ ho Ἰesoys eipen aytῷ· Makarios ei, Simon Bariona, hoti sarx kai ahima oyk apekalypsen soi allʼ ho pater mou ho en tois oyranois·
Edified Edition (EDE)Jesus answered and said to him, [JESUS]"Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.[/JESUS]

⸂ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ⸃ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Μακάριος εἶ, Σίμων Βαριωνᾶ, ὅτι σὰρξ καὶ αἷμα οὐκ ἀπεκάλυψέν σοι ἀλλʼ ὁ πατήρ μου ὁ ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς·

Phonetic (Greek): kago de soi lego hoti sy ei Petros, kai epi taytῃ tῇ petrᾳ oikodomeso mou ten ekklesian, kai pylai hadou oy katischysousin aytes·
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it."[/JESUS]

κἀγὼ δέ σοι λέγω ὅτι σὺ εἶ Πέτρος, καὶ ἐπὶ ταύτῃ τῇ πέτρᾳ οἰκοδομήσω μου τὴν ἐκκλησίαν, καὶ πύλαι ᾅδου οὐ κατισχύσουσιν αὐτῆς·

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀doso soi tas ⸀kleidas tes basileias ton oyranon, kai ho ⸀ean desῃs epi tes ges estai dedemenon en tois oyranois, kai ho ⸁ean lysῃs epi tes ges estai lelymenon en tois oyranois.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven: and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven."[/JESUS]

⸀δώσω σοι τὰς ⸀κλεῖδας τῆς βασιλείας τῶν οὐρανῶν, καὶ ὃ ⸀ἐὰν δήσῃς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἔσται δεδεμένον ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς, καὶ ὃ ⸁ἐὰν λύσῃς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἔσται λελυμένον ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): tote ⸀diesteilato tois ⸀mathetais hina medeni eiposin hoti aytos ⸀estin ho christos.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.

τότε ⸀διεστείλατο τοῖς ⸀μαθηταῖς ἵνα μηδενὶ εἴπωσιν ὅτι αὐτός ⸀ἐστιν ὁ χριστός.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἀpo tote erxato ⸂ho Ἰesoys⸃ deiknyein tois mathetais aytoy hoti dei ayton ⸂eis Ἱerosolyma apelthein⸃ kai polla pathein apo ton presbyteron kai archiereon kai grammateon kai apoktanthenai kai tῇ tritῃ hemerᾳ egerthenai.
Edified Edition (EDE)From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

Ἀπὸ τότε ἤρξατο ⸂ὁ Ἰησοῦς⸃ δεικνύειν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ ὅτι δεῖ αὐτὸν ⸂εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα ἀπελθεῖν⸃ καὶ πολλὰ παθεῖν ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων καὶ ἀρχιερέων καὶ γραμματέων καὶ ἀποκτανθῆναι καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἐγερθῆναι.

Phonetic (Greek): kai proslabomenos ayton ho Petros erxato epitiman aytῷ legon· Ἵleos soi, kyrie· oy me estai soi toyto.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, "Be it far from you, Lord: this shall not be to you."

καὶ προσλαβόμενος αὐτὸν ὁ Πέτρος ἤρξατο ἐπιτιμᾶν αὐτῷ λέγων· Ἵλεώς σοι, κύριε· οὐ μὴ ἔσται σοι τοῦτο.

Phonetic (Greek): ho de strapheis eipen tῷ Petrῳ· Ὕpage opiso mou, Satana· skandalon ⸂ei emoy⸃, hoti oy phroneis ta toy theoy alla ta ton anthropon.
Edified Edition (EDE)But He turned and said to Peter, [JESUS]"Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offence to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men."[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ στραφεὶς εἶπεν τῷ Πέτρῳ· Ὕπαγε ὀπίσω μου, Σατανᾶ· σκάνδαλον ⸂εἶ ἐμοῦ⸃, ὅτι οὐ φρονεῖς τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ ἀλλὰ τὰ τῶν ἀνθρώπων.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote ho Ἰesoys eipen tois mathetais aytoy· Ei tis thelei opiso mou elthein, aparnesastho heauton kai arato ton stauron aytoy kai akoloutheito moi.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus said to His disciples, [JESUS]"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.[/JESUS]

Τότε ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ· Εἴ τις θέλει ὀπίσω μου ἐλθεῖν, ἀπαρνησάσθω ἑαυτὸν καὶ ἀράτω τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀκολουθείτω μοι.

Phonetic (Greek): hos gar ⸀ean thelῃ ten psychen aytoy sosai apolesei ayten· hos dʼ an apolesῃ ten psychen aytoy heneken emoy ehyresei ayten.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.[/JESUS]

ὃς γὰρ ⸀ἐὰν θέλῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ σῶσαι ἀπολέσει αὐτήν· ὃς δʼ ἂν ἀπολέσῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ εὑρήσει αὐτήν.

Phonetic (Greek): ti gar ⸀ophelethesetai anthropos ean ton kosmon holon kerdesῃ ten de psychen aytoy zemiothῇ; e ti dosei anthropos antallagma tes psyches aytoy;
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?"[/JESUS]

τί γὰρ ⸀ὠφεληθήσεται ἄνθρωπος ἐὰν τὸν κόσμον ὅλον κερδήσῃ τὴν δὲ ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ζημιωθῇ; ἢ τί δώσει ἄνθρωπος ἀντάλλαγμα τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦ;

Phonetic (Greek): mellei gar ho yhios toy anthropou erchesthai en tῇ doxῃ toy patros aytoy meta ton angelon aytoy, kai tote apodosei hekastῳ kata ten praxin aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works."[/JESUS]

μέλλει γὰρ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἔρχεσθαι ἐν τῇ δόξῃ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ μετὰ τῶν ἀγγέλων αὐτοῦ, καὶ τότε ἀποδώσει ἑκάστῳ κατὰ τὴν πρᾶξιν αὐτοῦ.

Phonetic (Greek): amen lego hymin ⸀hoti eisin tines ⸂ton hode hestoton⸃ ohitines oy me geysontai thanatou heos an idosin ton yhion toy anthropou erchomenon en tῇ basileiᾳ aytoy.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom."[/JESUS]

ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ⸀ὅτι εἰσίν τινες ⸂τῶν ὧδε ἑστώτων⸃ οἵτινες οὐ μὴ γεύσωνται θανάτου ἕως ἂν ἴδωσιν τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐρχόμενον ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ αὐτοῦ.
