Chapter 17
1
Phonetic (Greek): Kai methʼ hemeras hex paralambanei ho Ἰesoys ton Petron kai Ἰakobon kai Ἰoannen ton adelphon aytoy, kai anapherei aytoys eis oros hypselon katʼ idian.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves;

Καὶ μεθʼ ἡμέρας ἓξ παραλαμβάνει ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὸν Πέτρον καὶ Ἰάκωβον καὶ Ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀναφέρει αὐτοὺς εἰς ὄρος ὑψηλὸν κατʼ ἰδίαν.

Phonetic (Greek): kai metemorphothe emprosthen ayton, kai elampsen to prosopon aytoy hos ho helios, ta de himatia aytoy ⸀egeneto leuka hos to phos.
Edified Edition (EDE)and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.

καὶ μετεμορφώθη ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν, καὶ ἔλαμψεν τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ὡς ὁ ἥλιος, τὰ δὲ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ⸀ἐγένετο λευκὰ ὡς τὸ φῶς.

Phonetic (Greek): kai idoy ⸀ophthe aytois Moyses kai Ἠlias ⸂syllaloyntes metʼ aytoy⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.

καὶ ἰδοὺ ⸀ὤφθη αὐτοῖς Μωϋσῆς καὶ Ἠλίας ⸂συλλαλοῦντες μετʼ αὐτοῦ⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): apokritheis de ho Petros eipen tῷ Ἰesoy· Kyrie, kalon estin hemas hode einai· ei theleis, ⸀poieso hode treis skenas, soi mian kai Moysei mian kai ⸂Ἠliᾳ mian⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here: if You will, let us make here three tabernacles; one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah."

ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Πέτρος εἶπεν τῷ Ἰησοῦ· Κύριε, καλόν ἐστιν ἡμᾶς ὧδε εἶναι· εἰ θέλεις, ⸀ποιήσω ὧδε τρεῖς σκηνάς, σοὶ μίαν καὶ Μωϋσεῖ μίαν καὶ ⸂Ἠλίᾳ μίαν⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): eti aytoy laloyntos idoy nephele photeine epeskiasen aytoys, kai idoy phone ek tes nepheles legousa· Ohytos estin ho yhios mou ho agapetos, en ho eydokesa· ⸂akoyete aytoy⸃.
Edified Edition (EDE)While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!"

ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ἰδοὺ νεφέλη φωτεινὴ ἐπεσκίασεν αὐτούς, καὶ ἰδοὺ φωνὴ ἐκ τῆς νεφέλης λέγουσα· Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός, ἐν ᾧ εὐδόκησα· ⸂ἀκούετε αὐτοῦ⸃.

Phonetic (Greek): kai akoysantes ohi mathetai epesan epi prosopon ayton kai ephobethesan sphodra.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.

καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ μαθηταὶ ἔπεσαν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτῶν καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν σφόδρα.

Phonetic (Greek): kai ⸂proselthen ho Ἰesoys kai hapsamenos ayton⸃ eipen· Ἐgerthete kai me phobeisthe.
Edified Edition (EDE)But Jesus came and touched them and said, [JESUS]"Arise, and do not be afraid."[/JESUS]

καὶ ⸂προσῆλθεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἁψάμενος αὐτῶν⸃ εἶπεν· Ἐγέρθητε καὶ μὴ φοβεῖσθε.

Phonetic (Greek): eparantes de toys ophthalmoys ayton oydena eidon ei me ⸀ayton Ἰesoyn monon.
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.

ἐπάραντες δὲ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῶν οὐδένα εἶδον εἰ μὴ ⸀αὐτὸν Ἰησοῦν μόνον.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai katabainonton ayton ek toy orous eneteilato aytois ho Ἰesoys legon· Medeni eipete to horama heos ohy ho yhios toy anthropou ek nekron ⸀egerthῇ.
Edified Edition (EDE)Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, [JESUS]"Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead."[/JESUS]

Καὶ καταβαινόντων αὐτῶν ἐκ τοῦ ὄρους ἐνετείλατο αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγων· Μηδενὶ εἴπητε τὸ ὅραμα ἕως οὗ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκ νεκρῶν ⸀ἐγερθῇ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai eperotesan ayton ohi ⸀mathetai legontes· Ti oyn ohi grammateis legousin hoti Ἠlian dei elthein proton;
Edified Edition (EDE)And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must first come?"

καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν οἱ ⸀μαθηταὶ λέγοντες· Τί οὖν οἱ γραμματεῖς λέγουσιν ὅτι Ἠλίαν δεῖ ἐλθεῖν πρῶτον;

Phonetic (Greek): ho ⸀de apokritheis ⸀eipen· Ἠlias men ⸀erchetai kai apokatastesei panta·
Edified Edition (EDE)Jesus answered and said to them, [JESUS]"Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things.[/JESUS]

ὁ ⸀δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς ⸀εἶπεν· Ἠλίας μὲν ⸀ἔρχεται καὶ ἀποκαταστήσει πάντα·

Phonetic (Greek): lego de hymin hoti Ἠlias ede elthen, kai oyk epegnosan ayton alla epoiesan en aytῷ hosa ethelesan· ohytos kai ho yhios toy anthropou mellei paschein hypʼ ayton.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands."[/JESUS]

λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ὅτι Ἠλίας ἤδη ἦλθεν, καὶ οὐκ ἐπέγνωσαν αὐτὸν ἀλλὰ ἐποίησαν ἐν αὐτῷ ὅσα ἠθέλησαν· οὕτως καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου μέλλει πάσχειν ὑπʼ αὐτῶν.

Phonetic (Greek): tote synekan ohi mathetai hoti peri Ἰoannou toy baptistoy eipen aytois.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.

τότε συνῆκαν οἱ μαθηταὶ ὅτι περὶ Ἰωάννου τοῦ βαπτιστοῦ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς.

Phonetic (Greek): Kai ⸀elthonton pros ton ochlon proselthen aytῷ anthropos gonypeton ayton
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying,

Καὶ ⸀ἐλθόντων πρὸς τὸν ὄχλον προσῆλθεν αὐτῷ ἄνθρωπος γονυπετῶν αὐτὸν

Phonetic (Greek): kai legon· Kyrie, eleeson mou ton yhion, hoti seleniazetai kai kakos ⸀paschei, pollakis gar piptei eis to pyr kai pollakis eis to hydor.
Edified Edition (EDE)"Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water."

καὶ λέγων· Κύριε, ἐλέησόν μου τὸν υἱόν, ὅτι σεληνιάζεται καὶ κακῶς ⸀πάσχει, πολλάκις γὰρ πίπτει εἰς τὸ πῦρ καὶ πολλάκις εἰς τὸ ὕδωρ.

Phonetic (Greek): kai prosenenka ayton tois mathetais sou, kai oyk edynethesan ayton therapeysai.
Edified Edition (EDE)And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him.

καὶ προσήνεγκα αὐτὸν τοῖς μαθηταῖς σου, καὶ οὐκ ἠδυνήθησαν αὐτὸν θεραπεῦσαι.

Phonetic (Greek): apokritheis de ho Ἰesoys eipen· Ὦ genea apistos kai diestrammene, heos pote ⸂methʼ hymon esomai⸃; heos pote anexomai hymon; pherete moi ayton hode.
Edified Edition (EDE)Then Jesus answered and said, [JESUS]"O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me."[/JESUS]

ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· Ὦ γενεὰ ἄπιστος καὶ διεστραμμένη, ἕως πότε ⸂μεθʼ ὑμῶν ἔσομαι⸃; ἕως πότε ἀνέξομαι ὑμῶν; φέρετέ μοι αὐτὸν ὧδε.

Phonetic (Greek): kai epetimesen aytῷ ho Ἰesoys, kai exelthen apʼ aytoy to daimonion· kai etherapeythe ho pais apo tes horas ekeines.
Edified Edition (EDE)And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς, καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἀπʼ αὐτοῦ τὸ δαιμόνιον· καὶ ἐθεραπεύθη ὁ παῖς ἀπὸ τῆς ὥρας ἐκείνης.

Phonetic (Greek): Tote proselthontes ohi mathetai tῷ Ἰesoy katʼ idian eipon· Dia ti hemeis oyk edynethemen ekbalein ayto;
Edified Edition (EDE)Then the disciples came to Jesus apart, and said, "Why could not we cast him out?"

Τότε προσελθόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ τῷ Ἰησοῦ κατʼ ἰδίαν εἶπον· Διὰ τί ἡμεῖς οὐκ ἠδυνήθημεν ἐκβαλεῖν αὐτό;

Phonetic (Greek): ho de ⸀legei aytois· Dia ten ⸀oligopistian hymon· amen gar lego hymin, ean echete pistin hos kokkon sinapeos, ereite tῷ orei toytῳ· ⸂Metaba enthen⸃ ekei, kai metabesetai, kai oyden adynatesei ⸀hymin.
Edified Edition (EDE)So Jesus said to them, [JESUS]"Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.[/JESUS]

ὁ δὲ ⸀λέγει αὐτοῖς· Διὰ τὴν ⸀ὀλιγοπιστίαν ὑμῶν· ἀμὴν γὰρ λέγω ὑμῖν, ἐὰν ἔχητε πίστιν ὡς κόκκον σινάπεως, ἐρεῖτε τῷ ὄρει τούτῳ· ⸂Μετάβα ἔνθεν⸃ ἐκεῖ, καὶ μεταβήσεται, καὶ οὐδὲν ἀδυνατήσει ⸀ὑμῖν.

Phonetic (Greek): ⸀Systrephomenon de ayton en tῇ Galilaiᾳ eipen aytois ho Ἰesoys· Mellei ho yhios toy anthropou paradidosthai eis cheiras anthropon,
Edified Edition (EDE)Now while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, [JESUS]"The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men,[/JESUS]

⸀Συστρεφομένων δὲ αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Μέλλει ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδοσθαι εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων,

Phonetic (Greek): kai apoktenoysin ayton, kai tῇ tritῃ hemerᾳ egerthesetai. kai elypethesan sphodra.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up."[/JESUS] And they were exceedingly sorrowful.

καὶ ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν, καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἐγερθήσεται. καὶ ἐλυπήθησαν σφόδρα.

Phonetic (Greek): Ἐlthonton de ayton eis Kapharnaoym proselthon ohi ta didrachma lambanontes tῷ Petrῳ kai eipan· Ὁ didaskalos hymon oy telei ta didrachma;
Edified Edition (EDE)And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, "does not your master pay tribute?"

Ἐλθόντων δὲ αὐτῶν εἰς Καφαρναοὺμ προσῆλθον οἱ τὰ δίδραχμα λαμβάνοντες τῷ Πέτρῳ καὶ εἶπαν· Ὁ διδάσκαλος ὑμῶν οὐ τελεῖ τὰ δίδραχμα;

Phonetic (Greek): legei· Nai. kai ⸀elthonta eis ten oikian proephthasen ayton ho Ἰesoys legon· Ti soi dokei, Simon; ohi basileis tes ges apo tinon lambanousin tele e kenson; apo ton yhion ayton e apo ton allotrion;
Edified Edition (EDE)He said, "Yes." And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, [JESUS]"What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?"[/JESUS]

λέγει· Ναί. καὶ ⸀ἐλθόντα εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν προέφθασεν αὐτὸν ὁ Ἰησοῦς λέγων· Τί σοι δοκεῖ, Σίμων; οἱ βασιλεῖς τῆς γῆς ἀπὸ τίνων λαμβάνουσιν τέλη ἢ κῆνσον; ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν αὐτῶν ἢ ἀπὸ τῶν ἀλλοτρίων;

Phonetic (Greek): ⸂eipontos de⸃· Ἀpo ton allotrion, ephe aytῷ ho Ἰesoys· Ἄra ge eleytheroi eisin ohi yhioi.
Edified Edition (EDE)Peter said to Him, "Of strangers." Jesus said to him, [JESUS]"Then are the children free."[/JESUS]

⸂εἰπόντος δέ⸃· Ἀπὸ τῶν ἀλλοτρίων, ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ἄρα γε ἐλεύθεροί εἰσιν οἱ υἱοί.

Phonetic (Greek): hina de me skandalisomen aytoys, poreutheis ⸀eis thalassan bale ankistron kai ton ⸀anabanta proton ichthyn aron, kai anoixas to stoma aytoy ehyreseis statera· ekeinon labon dos aytois anti emoy kai soy.
Edified Edition (EDE)[JESUS]"Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you."[/JESUS]

ἵνα δὲ μὴ σκανδαλίσωμεν αὐτούς, πορευθεὶς ⸀εἰς θάλασσαν βάλε ἄγκιστρον καὶ τὸν ⸀ἀναβάντα πρῶτον ἰχθὺν ἆρον, καὶ ἀνοίξας τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ εὑρήσεις στατῆρα· ἐκεῖνον λαβὼν δὸς αὐτοῖς ἀντὶ ἐμοῦ καὶ σοῦ.
